The first 'news' relating to NECA's release of Leonardo, the Dark Turtle, in their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IDW series was back in November 2024 . The figure is now on the release schedule in the final week of Haulathon 2025, exclusive to Target in the US and the Haulathon website internationally, at least on a 'first-to-market' agreement. Dark Leonardo will come with alternative hands, his sword, mace, and a mind control mask that is compatible and fits onto the other NECA TMNT Turtles. The figure is packed into an Ultimate format box with an opening front cover and also includes an additional cardboard diorama background piece that will slot into Donatello's Portal Generator (sold separately). Also arriving in the final week of Haulathon is the Mirage Comics TMNT Foot Assassin, now in classic colours. The figure has already featured as a black and white edition for Haulathon 2025 as well as a red & black edition in 2025. It may be older news at this point, but Sainsbury's stores in the UK currently have a promotional end dedicated to Star Wars and the 'Power of the Force' branded marketing campaign. The end includes multiple product lines, including Lego, Funko, and Play-Doh, but it also carries two Hasbro Star Wars Black Series figures. These are the 'Best Of' releases of The Mandalorian (Mines of Mandalore) and Darth Vader, and they are currently priced at £20 each. They also reflect an update to the packaging as both figures originally came in the slanted side boxes, and are now in the fully squared off box format. Not only does this present a variant for boxed collection, this is a pretty great price for the two figures, which reflect very good versions of both characters. McFarlane has debuted a new Elite Edition line within their 7-inch action figure series. The first of the Elite Edition releases is a new figure of the Doom Slayer from Doom: The Dark Ages. The figure features a soft goods cape, full articulation, extra hands, a display base, and four different weapons. The Elite Edition figures will come with the collectible art card, but also with Elite Reward Cards that can be saved and used to redeem against rewards on McFarlane.com . After the reveal of McFarlane's first Elite Edition figure, that of Doom Slayer from Doom: The Dark Ages , there has been further clarity of how the Elite Edition program will work, Essentially, each Elite Edition figure will include one of four different tiered Reward Cards. The common card grants 50points, while the uncommon card 300 points. These points can then be spent on McFarlane's website. There is also a rare card giving the recipient the ability to redeem it for a prototype figure. “I have a really bad feeling about this.” In 2020, the Star Wars Black Series releases included a Return of the Jedi theme, headlined by that year's SDCC Exclusive, The Heroes of Endor set featuring new figures of Luke, Han, Leia, and Paploo from the battle of Endor. Han, Luke, and Leia went on to get single releases in the fledgling Phase 4 Galaxy Collection, included in the 2nd full wave of general releases alongside figures including Cad Bane, The Armorer, Hoth Rebel Soldier, and Phase I Clone Trooper. The Return of the Jedi figures were given a green accent colour in the new packaging, which was used on the text and side artwork. Han Solo is number 05 in the ROTJ series, and the side artwork for Han follows on from the Luke Skywalker Endor release, and onward to the 2021 release of Boba Fett The Han Solo features a sculpted body that borrows from the Bespin Han in places, giving us Solo in his trademark off-white open shirt, a black waistcoat, brown trousers with yellow trim, and black knee-high boots. Each component is cast in the base colour, then assembled, with the only significant decor applied to the sculpted belt buckle and on the yellow piping of the trousers.  Over all of this base costume sits Han’s gunslinger belt, complete with its holster, thigh strapping, and large silver buckle and fastenings. And finally, the costume is complete with the soft goods Endor trench coat. This soft good coat is brown in base colour, and has a camouflage pattern which almost looks tie-died in places. It is tailored and stitched around the hems, with a stitched collar and sleeves. The material is not quite as soft as the Jedi robes or the ponchos used on Leia and Luke, but it does sit naturally enough on Han’s frame and can even be splayed out at the back as though caught in the Endor winds.  The headsculpt is a good likeness to Harrison Ford circa 1983 and one of the better Han Solos to date, on par with the Bespin Han from Empire Strikes Back. Photo-real decor is applied to the eyes, mouth, and with some minor shading around the nose and hairline. The expression is left quite serious and without any attempt to mimic Ford’s trademark smirk. The figure also has the ability, to some degree, to be converted into the Han who escapes Jabba’s Palace. To do this, the coat and waistcoat need to be removed, and while everything underneath is sculpted and coloured, the chest proportions don’t quite look right. Han is also wearing his gunbelt, so that would need to be cut off if you wanted to pair this figure with the existing Han in Carbonite or as part of a Jabba’s Palace diorama, and that would still leave you with the sculpted thigh star,p which is part of the leg itself.  Han’s only accessory is his blaster, the usual DL-44 in black plastic with brown painted grip and silver barrel. As is usually the issue with these, the barrel is easily warped, particularly when it is pushed into the working holster on Han’s belt. It sits in Han’s right hand, otherwise with the flexible trigger finger adjusting into place for firing positions.  Han has 16 points of articulation, an older configuration that includes double-jointed knees with pins, carried over from the original Han Solo figures. There is sufficient range for most of Han’s poses, even his apologetic shrug to the Imperials when he tricks them out of the Endor bunker. The benefit of the soft goods coat is that this does not impede the joints and works with the articulation for a reasonably wide range of posing positions.  The Endor release of Han Solo from Return of the Jedi is a figure that has two, arguably three, distinct looks, allowing you to match most of Han’s scenes from Return of the Jedi from just the single purchase. The figure looks the part with or without the soft goods trenchcoat, and the coat itself is both a nice nod to the original Kenner figures, while also being accurate and functional enough for the Black Series line. The headsculpt is one fo the better Harrison Ford looks, but Hasbro might have been braver in attempting his trademark smirk. Releasing Han alongside Luke & Leia from the same Endor strike team adds to the selling point of the figure, allowing the group to be assembled in a larger display along with a Chewbacca, R2, and C-3PO. Revealed as part of Week 5 of the NECA / Target Haulathon program, the third of NECA's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mirage Comics 'black and white' editions for 2025 is the Foot Assassin. The figure features black and white decor and comes with an alternative masked head, extra hands, and a selection of weapons, including a time bomb. While much of the NECA Haulathon exclusives have been themed around Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there have been some other gems unveiled - including this week's official listing of NECA's new Ultimate Michael Myers from The Curse of Michael Myers. The new set included Myers along with two head options, extra hands, a variety of weapons, a pumpkin, and a discarded mask accessory. You also get the Strode Realty sign with its Michael Myers cutout. The whole set is packed into an Ultimate window box with an opening front cover to reveal the figure within. The Ultimate Curse of Michael Myers release is going to be at Target in the US and sold internationally through the Haulathon website. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licenses - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who, and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK-focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. "The Force is strong in my family. My father has it...I have it...and my sister has it. In 2020, the Star Wars Black Series releases included a Return of the Jedi theme, headlined by that year's SDCC Exclusive, The Heroes of Endor set featuring new figures of Luke, Han, Leia, and Paploo from the battle of Endor. Han, Luke, and Leia went on to get single releases in the fledgling Phase 4 Galaxy Collection, included in the 2nd full wave of general releases alongside figures including Cad Bane, The Armorer, Hoth Rebel Soldier, and Phase I Clone Trooper. The Return of the Jedi figures were given a green accent colour in the new packaging, which was used on the text and side artwork. Luke Skywalker is number 04 in the ROTJ series, and the side artwork for Luke connects to Leia and Han to create the larger connective montage.  Luke is built on the older 2014 Jedi Knight Luke  figure body, with the entirety of the undersuit cast in black plastic and variation provided only on the boots, which are a glossier finish. The chest section, removable on the older figure, is now fixed in place, and the belt is updated. This black belt, with a silver painted buckle, is used to hold the soft goods poncho in place and can be undone and taken off the figure, or worn without the poncho. The poncho itself is an olive green base colour with brown and green camo colouration added. It is tailored to include a thick collar and a hood which is stitched in the down position. The lower part of the Poncho is designed to be held in check by the belt, and the overall look is a good likeness to the Endor combat gear worn by Luke.  The head sculpt is new and one of the better Mark Hamill likenesses in the line, using photo-real technology to add to the realism. A removable helmet, fastened by a rubberised chin strap, allows Luke to be displayed in his full Endor look and the one he has during the speeder bike chase. The helmet carries the majority of the figures' decor with green, being,e and brown base colours along with silver ‘battle damage’ and a red and yellow insignia symbol. These removable elements do hark back to the original ethos of the Black Series and allow you multiple looks in one release. You can pose Luke as seen on arrival to Endor and the Speeder Bike scenes, or pose him without the helmet as per the Ewok Village scenes. You can even forgo the helmet and poncho and mirror Luke as seen when he meets Vader and the Emperor. This final look is an improvement on the 2014 figure thanks to the new head, but it lacks the ability to adjust the chest panel, and the proportions are not quite right - something that has since been rectified with the newer 2023 version.  As well as the removable combat gear, Luke also features his lightsaber. This is the usual ROTJ era piece with the hilt featuring black, gold, and silver details. The neck remains slim and prone to bending, so care is needed when installing the translucent green lightsaber blade. While the saber retains a hook on the end, there is no belt fitting to match,h so there is no holstering option. The hilt fits in either hand, with the right also featuring a trigger finger which can look out of place with Luke’s pinky finger raised while holding his lightsaber. These hands appear to have been the ones used on the Jabba’s Palace  release of Luke in 2019, but with this right hand painted to the gloved look. Luke has 16 points of articulation, the legs inclusive of pinned double-joint knees. The soft goods work with the articulation rather than impeding, and Luke’s slim frame enables a good variety of posing, including the ability for two-handed light saber positions - although there is no butterfly shoulder, so these positions are limited. Luke stands well enough and holds most poses, and can also ride one of the Black Series Speeder Bikes.  The figure is identical to the one included in the Heroes of Endor  set from the same year. This single releases does not scrimp on any accessories, giving collectors everything that was included in the larger SDCC set. Luke looks great with the poncho, which works well considering the limitations of soft goods and hides some of the issues with the older body underneath. The helmet is well-engineered and doesn’t look oversized or out of place, and the headsculpt is one of the best the line has produced for Mark Hamill. The power of the set is in the complementary figures of Han and Leia in the same wave, allowing a full Endor group shot now in the Black Series, bringing in the existing Chewie and the Droid figures alongside.
