  • Review : Marvel Legends Hawkeye, Quantum Suit, Avengers Endgame

Alongside the single figure Marvel Legends releases for Avengers Endgame, Hasbro also released a two pack of Hawkeye and Black Widow in their Quantum Suits from the movie. The set was exclusive to Target in the US and had limited availability elsewhere worldwide. read the Black Widow review here Packaging 3/5 The set follows the usual packaging design for a two pack. We have the same sculpted sides as a single release, the right with an image of Black Widow and the left with Hawkeye. The black frame around the window carries the Legends logo at the top with the character names positioned at the bottom either side of the Avengers logo in a blue band. Like the other releases the box doesn't actually use the Endgame logo, just a dark blue / red trimmed Avengers logo. The back of the box has another image of Hawkeye and Widow alongside a very short piece of text that gives nothing away. "From the ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D. to the growing team of Avengers, Black Widow and Hawkeye put their expert training to use as they suit up to defend their world and universe from intergalactic threats." The backing card is a pale blue, like the other Endgame figures, and carries a large Avengers "A" in the centre. The figures are sat into a clear inner tray with the accessories to either side and a selection of spare heads down the middle - more on these later. Paint & Sculpt 3/5 The head is a brand new Jeremy Renner sculpt, and much improved on the previous Hawkeye head with the face print technology. The eyes are impressive, as is the shading around the face. The facial hair - which doesn't photograph too well - is natural looking, as is the hair with the shaved sides and shaped top. This is the head we should have got with the Ronin figure in the single Endgame figures. You will be pleased to know that this head will fit that figure - see our "hacks" section at the bottom of our review to see more. The body is the same male Quantum buck that was used on the Captain America figure. The obvious issue is the screen accuracy to what we see in the movie. Hasbro was obviously too far down the line with the body - likely based off concept art - to go backwards. One downfall of having product out before the movie. Putting the inaccuracy to one side, the suit is sculpted well with panelled sections as well as textured fill in panels and red trim. The paint is not the best, the red lines in particular a bit messy in places. There are some cool touches too, particularly the Quantum wrist device on the back of the left hand. The set is also designed to attempt to make you purchase multiples so you can build up your Quantum Suited Avengers. It comes with three heads - two of which are designed for the male body. First is Iron-Man who comes with a head from what we assume is the Mk85 Armour. This is painted OK, but the eyes are a bit small and the gold quite dull. The other head is for Ant-Man, a re-use of the 2018 Ant-Man helmet. Again the paint on this is quite flat with a grey rather than a metallic finish and very flat red eyes. Both of these heads would have been better served, and more accurate, with face printed unmasked heads of Scott Lang and Tony Stark. Sculpts exist for both, and as you will see in our "hack" section at the end of this review they do fit the Quantum Suit body. We will at this point look over the fact that all these characters from Steve Rogers to Hawkeye, Scott Lang to Tony Stark, have varying body types. While the re-use of the base body is good business, it isn't overly accurate to the heights and proportions of each character on screen. Accessories 2/5 While Hawkeye has got a new head sculpt, he has been short changed with his bow which is a re-use of the original 2012 version. It is cast in dark grey plastic that is quite brittle and has no paint apps at all. The string is a further thick piece of plastic and has very little give in it for posing. The bow does not fit too well in Hawkeyes hand - this was of course designed for Captain America - and you end up with kind of make-do poses for Hawkeye who does actually have sufficient articulation for some good archery poses. Its difficult too also ignore the pack of any quiver or arrows - but the movie did the same, with his arrows and quiver only being seen when he was on Vormir and out of his Quantum suit. Articulation 3/5 The Quantum Suit body has 19 points of articulation, making it particularly good for posing and display. Head : ball joint pivot neck Body : torso T-joint, swivel waist Arms : ball joint shoulder, bicep swivel, double joint elbows, pivot wrists Legs : ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double joint knees, ankle rockers There are flaws though. The waist is very loose and the hips are also going that way, an issue that also exists on the single release Cap figure. The ankle rockers are ratcheted, but don't easily ratchet and line up for his feet to be flat to the floor - this creates some issues in standing up Cap. The head joint is also very loose so while the head is quite stiff to rotate, it does flop forward under its own weight. The positives are in the arms with some real good posing options - and with a better bow there would be some brilliant archery poses available to you for your display. Summary Hasbro have stuck by their guns over the Quantum Suits and gone with the silver concept design and that means you will have to invest heavily if you want a full Avengers line up (Rocket and War Machine aside). The generic body does mean all your Quantum figures will share the same height and build, but this can be overcome by some character specific posing. The Clint figure does suffer from some very loose joints straight out of the box and there are issues too with the paint details around the red trims. A new bow would have been nice too. The head sculpt saves the figure, and also allows a potential fix to the Ronin figure if you wish. I score the Quantum Suit Hawkeye an average 3 out of 5. See More Marvel MCU Figures Figure Hacks If you ignore the silver suits vs the white ones we see on screen, the other key difference is that our heroes didn't really wear helmets or headgear when embarking on the Time Heist. Therefore a lot of people - myself included - are looking to generate a different look for characters like Ant-Man rather than the Ant-Man helmet. The Quantum Body neck peg will accept the 2018 Ant-Man and the Wasp head sculpt perfectly - the one with the odd smile. If you were hoping to use the more serious First Ten Years Ant-Man head then I am sorry to say the neck peg is too big - and it would need a lot of work to make the two compatible. As we saw when we reviewed the Captain America Quantum Suit, the base body is also a fit for the Tony Stark head as well as other Steve Rogers heads - to varying degrees. As I get my hands on the new Thor head I will let you know how that goes with the set.

  • Review : Marvel Legends Black Widow, Quantum Suit, Avengers Endgame

Alongside the single figure Marvel Legends releases for Avengers Endgame, Hasbro also released a two pack of Hawkeye and Black Widow in their Quantum Suits from the movie. The set was exclusive to Target in the US and had limited availability elsewhere worldwide. read the review for the Hawkeye figure here Packaging 3/5 The set follows the usual packaging design for a two pack. Paint & Sculpt 3/5 We got a nice Black Widow head sculpt with face print technology for Infinity War, and therefore I was surprised that the Quantum Suit Endgame Widow isn't a re-use with new hair piece, and looks to be a new sculpt with arguably a better likeness to Scarlett Johansson. The face print brings out the colour of Widow's eyes, and is not overly heavy on the lip colour. The hair piece is a pony tail swept round to one side and back over the figures shoulder. It is cast in a red colour and has no paint apps until the end of the pony tail where the last of Natasha's blond hair from Infinity War remains. This is not too successful and the hair can appear to have an unpainted end to it. It would have also benefited from a wash considering the amount of detail in the hair such as plaited segments at the front and round the back. The body, the female version of the Quantum Suit, remains inaccurate to the white suits on screen but Hasbro are pressing on with these so at the moment it's these silver suits or nothing. The body is a proportioned well, but feels more generic and not Black Widow - it's a bit too tall and is half a head taller than the last Widow figure. The panels are sculpted and defined and the paint is neat - neater than the male buck at least. The female body also comes with a Nebula head sculpt. This means the set can be bought multiple times to build out your Quantum Suit Avengers. The Nebula head is OK and appears to be the existing head from the Nebula released in 2017 for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 with an updated paint job. While the sculpt on Nebula is good, the paint jobs is poor - a similar story to the male heads for Ant-Man and Iron-Man. The blue is far too bright as is the added orange panels and the silver elements around the left eye. The central panel of purple is pastel in tone and finish and looks very odd when it should be a metallic finish. This is a waste opportunity and all it needed was the same paint apps as the last Nebula release with the added orange panels. Accessories 3/5 Black Widow comes with her batons. These are a re-use from the Infinity War Black Widow. Like that set they arrive warped and are not easy to straighten. They are cast in a black plastic with silver rings painted around the length. Like the Infinity War batons, I think these are too long by perhaps half an inch. They fit into either hand for two stick fighting. And they can combine by means of a plug and socket to make a staff. There is sadly no built in holsters on her back to stow these when not in use. To ensure Nebula is also suitably armed, there is a second weapon included for her. This is the same gun as the 2016 Nebula and is actually the only re-used item with a bit of an upgrade in this set with some additional gold paint apps over the original. It fits into the right hand of the Quantum Suit but there there is no trigger finger as the hand obviously also has to hold Widow's batons. An alternative right hand would have been useful here. Articulation Black Widow has 18 points of articulation which is a couple more than a usual MCU female figure. The big upgrade, and one that works brilliantly for posing, is the addition of double jointed elbows. These really open up the figure for various stances and action shots. Head : ball joint pivot neck Body : ball joint torso Arms : ball joint shoulders, bicep swivel, double joint elbows, wrist pivot Legs : ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double joint knees, ankle rocker The female Quantum suit is not as loose as the male version and all the joints feel tight. The figure stands perfectly well, but does look a little bow-legged when doing so . The articulation works to support either Widow or Nebula, depending on how you are using the figure - allowing firing positions for Nebula and her handgun. Summary Like the Hawkeye (male) Quantum suit, this figure has flaws aside from the obvious screen accuracy. The body is very much sculpted to be generic and therefore is not a definitive Black Widow and with the height is more suited to be a Nebula figure. The heads are very nicely sculpted, but let down with paint apps - Widow with that dipped white pony tail and Nebula in pastel tones and not the harsher metallic we saw on her previous release. The figure does deliver in articulation, and is only the second female figure after Rescue, to feature double joint elbows. This is a figure, and an overall set, that will split fans. The screen accuracy issue will turn off a lot, and those who do pick up the set will find it disappointing in a few areas. We then have availability issues, with the set not being widely available outside of the US. I suspect in the years to come we may end up seeing these figures repainted to the white and re-released in some format. I score the Black Widow (Nebula) Quantum Suit a 3 out of 5. See More Marvel MCU Figures Figure Hacks Those who want to take the Black Widow head and potentially update another Widow figure will be pleased to know that the head will fit onto the Infinity War body. It will also fit onto the original Black Widow Winter Soldier body, but due to neck shape on that figure she will end up looking like she is shrugging and the head is looking down too much.

  • Review : Marvel Legends Captain America, Quantum Suit, Avengers : Endgame

Captain America, in his Quantum Realm Suit, from Avengers : Endgame was released in early 2019 as part of the Armoured Thanos BAF wave. Cap was the only figure not to include a BAF part. In September 2019, the figure was repacked as part of a UK slim blister re-pack of MCU Marvel Legend figures - this is the figure we are reviewing today. Packaging 3/5 The new slimline packaging being sold in the UK is a thick cardback in glossy black on top of which is a slim line blister holding the figure. The Legends logo sits top right, and the movie logo takes up much more of the card header. Under this is the character name in a blue strip and an image of Cap from Endgame peeking in from the side. The card includes a backing coloured panel for the figure, in this instance the light blue with Avengers "A" logo - the same as is used on the boxed version. The back of the card carries a larger Marvel Legends logo and a larger image of Captain America. Like all Legends releases, there is then a short text piece. The rest of the card is made up of legal and safety notices. The figure can't be opened without damaging the card with the blister sandwiched between the card backing. Once open the figure pops out in an inner plastic tray, held in by the shape of the tray - there are no twist ties. While this new packaging cuts down on the waste for collectors who open their figures, it isn't overly friendly for anyone who may want to open and re-seal their figures. Being a blister card it will also be prone to shelf damage - particularly curling and feathering around the card edge. Paint & Sculpt 3/5 They key issue with the figure, as we are all aware, is the screen accuracy issue. The silver and black suits used by Hasbro were obviously an earlier concept and were replaced on screen by the more impressive white versions. With Hasbro committed to the Silver version across all their Endgame figure products, we are left with something that is akin to the Quantum Suits, but not a good match. The head used is that from an Avengers Battle of New York Cap, and while this is a new sculpt it is most likely the one coming in the 3rd wave of Avengers Legends. The sculpt is a good likeness to Chris Evans, even with the helmet, and the helmet itself is shaped well with a clear A logo and the winged designs to either side. Face print technology is used and that gives us very realistic eyes. But there is an issue with the chin strap which has some flesh tone bleed. Like the suit, the head is not overly screen accurate and as you will see later (see figure hacks section) the figure is much improved when you use an unmasked Steve Rogers head. The body, despite the inaccuracies, is a good sculpt with loads of panel detail as well as textures on the black panels. The A logo isn't particularly neat with paint fouling the inner areas. Other detail includes the Quantum device on Cap's left hand. Accessories 3/5 Cap comes with his Shield, the same Shield as has been used in the various Captain America releases for some time. As this is a re-use, it also remains slightly oversized for the figure. The two straps remain the same on the reverse. Because the body isn't a dedicated Cap body the hand is not quite shaped to hold the shield and it will take a bit of work to get the Shield secure on the body. To get Cap holding the Shield you will either need to pop off the hand and then locate the shield before putting it back. Or, you can heat up and flex the fingers to grip the strap. Articulation 3/5 The Quantum Suit body has 19 points of articulation, making it particularly good for posing and display. Head : ball joint pivot neck Body : torso T-joint, swivel waist Arms : ball joint shoulder, bicep swivel, double joint elbows, pivot wrists Legs : ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double joint knees, ankle rockers There are flaws though. The waist is very loose and the hips are also going that way, with Cap often sliding into the splits. The ankle rockers are ratcheted, but don't easily ratchet and line up for his feet to be flat to the floor - this creates some issues in standing up Cap. The head joint is also very loose so while the head is quite stiff to rotate, it does flop forward under its own weight. Summary The Captain America in Quantum Suit is a figure, like many early Legend releases, that sacrificed screen accuracy - basing itself on concept designs - in order to be on shelves before the movie hit our screens. With that being said, the figure is a nice looking one and in the absence of a correct Quantum Suit - these will look great when team built. The head looks like it belongs on another figure, which of course it does, and I think many collectors will ditch this head and replace it with one of the spares from a Power & Glory Cap or the First Ten Years Civil war version. I score the Quantum Suit Captain America an above average 3 out of 5. While it has flaws, it is still a nice looking figure - that can look even better with a bit of work swapping parts with other releases. And in the new slimline packaging it is even better value. See More MCU Marvel Legends Figures Figure Hacks As we have alluded to several times in the review above, the beauty of this figure is the ability to drop on different heads to build up your Avengers Quantum Suit team - this is something Hasbro have obviously planned considering the two pack of Quantum Suits which includes this male body and the variant heads included. My preference for the Quantum Team is unmasked heads, and that is my aim in building out the team. To start with I have access only to Tony Stark and Steve Rogers heads, all of which do work and look great on the Quantum Suit. The Tony Stark head fits straight off without any issue, but the loose pivot neck will cause it to slip around. The Steve Rogers heads from the recent Power & Glory or MCU First Ten Years set will need to be warmed up gently to tease them onto the body. Once in place they are a bit stiff, but can still be moved around. For me the Power & Glory head is the best looking and is the one I have left in place as I build my Quantum Suit Avengers team.

  • Diamond Select Exclusive Captain Marvel heading to Disney Stores

The Diamond Select 7 inch Captain Marvel figure is getting a second release as a Disney Store Exclusive, now in her more distinctive Red & Blue outfit. The figure uses the same sculpt as the Starforce general release, but does not include the fiery take off base. In stead, this Disney release has the binary effects that clip onto Carol's arms. She still comes with masked head, alternative hands, static Goose the Cat figurine and the normal flight stand. Disney Stores do not announce any of their Diamond Exclusives in advance, so this will simply start turning up in stores - and we assume pretty soon based on the image below that has been shared via social channels. As yet it is unclear if this is a Worldwide release, or a US only product like the Iron-Man Mk50.

  • Review : Iron-Man 2 Movie Series, War Machine

The early MCU figures from Hasbro were made outside the Marvel Legends banner and each film release up to Iron-Man 3 were released on their own branded cards with their own design - only the Incredible Hulk from 2008 carried the Legends logo. In 2010, Iron-Man 2 was the 3rd MCU film to be covered by Hasbro and featured just a handful of Iron-Man figures and one of War Machine. Due to the scarcity and after-market price of this figure, I am reviewing a loose version I picked up and not a complete packaged product. Packaging 3/5 The Iron-Man 2 Movie Series was released on blister card packaging with US exclusivity to Walmart stores. Like many blister cards of the time from Hasbro, the cardback is shaped around the artwork - with the artwork being a generic image of Iron-Man and the movie logo and no real reference to War Machine aside from the character name plate The blister is filled with the figure and various parts and the key features of the figure are confirmed via little insert slashes on the blister. These include the exclusivity element as well as the snap-on weapons. The card back (no promo image we can use) includes a picture of the figure and the same small bio and background text we see on Legends figures. There is also a checklist of other releases. "Taken directly from Tony Stark's lab, this armor suit was reverse-engineered and rebuilt by the Air Force's top scientists. They boosted its engine output, enhanced its hydraulic muscles and added several of the military's most powerful weapons. IRON-MAN may be a one-man army, but this machine is built for war." Paint & Sculpt 5/5 Despite its age, this is a figure that is as good a sculpt - if not better - as we have in the more recent Legends figures. Its proportions are fantastic and the suit feels big and bulky with plenty of panels and overlaid armour. The helmet is mean looking with a slight red painted around the visors to give them a fake glow effect. Colouring and paint is crisp throughout, and there is good use of decals to capture the 001 numbering of the War Machine suit and a number of Air Force designations around each shoulder area. The one disadvantage of the figure is not of its own making, but rather the subsequent figures badged as Marvel Legends have all got a touch bigger. War Machine Mk1 measures in at just over 6 inches - most modern Legend male figures are coming in at this and more and they are not wearing enhanced armoured suits. Stand this War Machine side by side with an MCU Legends figure and he will look undersized. It is not a complete lost cause though as the figure can be posed flying or using some forced perspective to make him fit in. Accessories 4/5 As stated on the packaging, War Machine is equipped with a couple of snap on weapons. The main being the shoulder cannon mini-gun. This comes in two parts, the gun and the ammunition strip. The ammo slots first into the gun and then the gun into a rail on the rear of the figure. The gun can be mounted anywhere on this rail, but far left shoulder is the best position to then allow the curl of the ammo strap to feed into a further slot further down the figures back. The mini-gun and ammo are cast in a grey plastic and have no paint added. A metallic dry brush would have dragged out some more detail. The figure also has some mini-rocket launches that slot into a piece on the shoulder at the side of the head. You open up the closed panel and pop it off via the slot on the back. Into this slot goes the raised launcher to give War Machine even more posed weaponry. This piece was missing from the figure I bought so I can't show you images I am afraid. We also get two alternative pairs of hands, giving the figure three in total. We have clenched fists, gripping hands and open palms revealing the repulsors. The gripping hands do not make too much sense as War Machine has nothing to hold, but the other two are certainly great for display and posing options. The hands clip in and out with no concerns. Articulation 4/5 Fully equipped with the mini-gun and launcher and War-Machine comes in with 23 points of articulation. Head : ball joint neck Arms : pivot shoulder armour, ball joint shoulder, bicep swivel, double elbow joint, wrist pivot Weapons : ball joint shoulder launcher, mini-gun pivot and rotating mount Body : ball joint torso Legs : ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double joint knees, ankle rockers Despite his bulk and armoured parts, War Machine is particularly mobile - particularly the upper body.. The head is partially fixed by the surrounding neck armour, but can look up and down. The shoulder panel joint is clever and both arms can be raised to a horizontal position for firing those repulsors. The elbow is also really mobile thanks to the swivel and double joint and can fold in on itself. The wrists, like the head, are held in a bit by the surrounding bulk. The torso joint is quite loose and can't always hold its position. This may be an age issue or a flaw on all the figure. The legs start with a ball joint hip with a full range of motion and with the thigh cut swivel and double jointed knees you can get some wider stances and battle ready positions. Sadly, the ankle rockers do not move enough to help these stances and War Machine can be left a little off balance with the feet not quite flat to the floor. They also do not point or pivot for flying poses on an appropriate stand. Summary Out of all the War Machine variants to date, the Mk1 is my favourite and owning the Mk1 in m Legends collection has been a objective of mine for some time. Putting this aside for a moment and being objective, what we have here is a well sculpted figure with good decor and details, appropriate accessories and a good range of articulation. The height issues can't really be held against him as it is the figures following him that have got larger - not the fact War Machine was made too small to begin with. Even nearly 10 years after his release, this War Machine figure holds up with the more contemporary Legends and he is perhaps a lick of paint and a couple of extra joint movements away from being a perfect release. To that end I score War Machine Mk1 a score of 4 out of 5. See More Marvel Legends MCU Figures

  • Mezco One:12 Marvel Inhumans Black Bolt and Lockjaw

Mezco have confirmed the release details for their One:12 Collective pack of Black Bolt and Lockjaw from Marvel's Inhumans. The set was first shown at San Diego Comic Con 2018 and at the time it was listed as a Winter 2019 release. That release schedule is going to be missed by quite a bit and collectors will need to wait until at least June 2020 for the set to arrive - it could even be as late as August 2020. Black Bolt will follow the usual One:12 format with a sculpted head, articulated body and tailored outfit. He includes two heads and a sonic scream FX piece and supporting display stand. Lockjaw is the first creature type addition to the One:12 line and includes a light up function that makes his antenna glow. Lockjaw looks to have minimal or no articulation and that is reflected in the price. Lockjaw is essentially a giant accessory. The set has a US RRP of $130 and you can pre-order now with Mezco and they do offer international shipping. UK pre-orders should also be up soon. The One:12 Collective Black Bolt is outfitted in an energy-harnessing suit capable of controlling his destructive power. The energy he harnesses can be turned into powerful blasts of concussive force. The antenna on Black Bolt’s head allows him to channel his power inward to increase his strength, stamina, and speed. Complete with 2 head portraits, the King of the Inhumans comes with a devastating sonic scream FX that can be displayed using the included post. Lockjaw, the loyal protector of the Inhuman Royal Family, features a light-up function that illuminates the antenna on his head. Using Kree technology, the antenna enhances Lockjaw's teleportation radius. Exposed to Terrigen mists before birth, Black Bolt obtained a dangerously loud voice that causes massive damage with even a whisper. Reigning in silence, the King of the Inhumans can level cities with a single word due to his sonic powers. Lockjaw, faithful and fuzzy companion to Black Bolt, gained the ability to teleport across time and space after being exposed to Terrigen mist. With super-canine strength and telekinetic abilities, Lockjaw is an indispensable part of the Inhuman world.
