  • On The Pegs : Smyths Toys - Back to the Future, Star Wars and DC Multiverse

There were some new items in Smyths Toys on my weekly trip this week. And while it is not my normal cup of tea, I found myself very excited when I found the Playmobil Back to the Future DeLorean (£49.99) and a two pack of the 1950's Doc and Marty McFly for £6.99. In the main action figure aisle the McFarlane DC Multiverse figures have landed. Smyths are splitting these up on the plan with Batman Comic & Animated front and centre of their DC display. Superman, for some reason, is positioned higher up and not immediately in the eye-line. Each figure is £19.99. These are the only three Multiverse figures Smyths are listing, and - as I have speculated in other threads - this maybe a strategic spreading of the releases by Bandai UK (distributor) across a number of retailers. Star Wars fans are still not well served, with Smyths own UK exclusive Carbonized Jet Trooper now in the clearance section for £15. They had put some new 6 inch budget figures out at £5 each. These are the same assortment sold in 2016 by Aldi - Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Jedi Luke etc. There were also two Solo releases in the same line - Chewbacca, who was only just released in the UK least year, and not in this Solo packaging. And Han Solo, who to my knowledge has not had a direct UK release before. • On The Pegs : McFarlane DC Multiverse Armoured Batman at Menkind

Menkind stores in the UK are also stocking the new McFarlane DC 7 inch scale action figures. My local store had the very impressive Armoured Batman for £25. There were no others to be found in the store. And this is now an interesting trend on McFarlane Multiverse figures here in the UK. Smyths had the Batman and Superman figures, Game had Harley Quinn and now Menkind have the Armoured Batman. With Bandai UK looking after the UK distribution - is this some planned segregation of figures between retailers, creating exclusivity of different figures across the main retailers? • Smyths Toys UK listing Marvel Legends Gamerverse figures for 1st April 2020 arrival

It seems that full blown Marvel Legends are on their way back to Smyths Toys stores here in the UK. The last true Legends we saw in Smyths were the Winter Soldier figures back around 2014. Since then the nearest we have got is the recent slimmed down Legends on blister cards. Now, the Smyths website is listing two of the Marvel Legends Gamerverse wave - Iron-Man and Captain America - as heading into stock around the 1st of April 2020. None of the other figures are listed, but we would assume Smyths will have to order by the case as with any retailer and collectors will of course want to build the Abomination BAF from the wave. You can pre-order these two figures from Smyths now at £19.99 each. I do appreciate the irony of the 1st of April release date, and we do know from the recent Star Wars Black Series figures they handled in this way that said release date is subject to significant backward movement.
