On The Pegs : Smyths Toys - Back to the Future, Star Wars and DC Multiverse

There were some new items in Smyths Toys on my weekly trip this week. And while it is not my normal cup of tea, I found myself very excited when I found the Playmobil Back to the Future DeLorean (£49.99) and a two pack of the 1950's Doc and Marty McFly for £6.99.

In the main action figure aisle the McFarlane DC Multiverse figures have landed. Smyths are splitting these up on the plan with Batman Comic & Animated front and centre of their DC display. Superman, for some reason, is positioned higher up and not immediately in the eye-line. Each figure is £19.99.

These are the only three Multiverse figures Smyths are listing, and - as I have speculated in other threads - this maybe a strategic spreading of the releases by Bandai UK (distributor) across a number of retailers.

Star Wars fans are still not well served, with Smyths own UK exclusive Carbonized Jet Trooper now in the clearance section for £15. They had put some new 6 inch budget figures out at £5 each. These are the same assortment sold in 2016 by Aldi - Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Jedi Luke etc. There were also two Solo releases in the same line - Chewbacca, who was only just released in the UK least year, and not in this Solo packaging. And Han Solo, who to my knowledge has not had a direct UK release before.

About Me : As a child of the 70's and 80's I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licences - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
