After announcing the collaboration with Hasbro this week, Super7 have now revealed the first wave of their Transformers Ultimates 7 inch figures. The figures are of a similar vein to Hasbro's own R.E.D. presenting the Transformers in their Robot form without a Transforming feature. Wave 1 will include Optimus Prime, Banzai-Tron, Bombshell, and Starscream's Ghost - which is the glitter effect we saw on the teaser image. Each figure comes with a variety of accessories as appropriate to the Transformer including both weapons and other elements such as the Matrix of Leadership and mini Spike Witwicky figure that arrive with Optimus. Each figure is packed in an angled Ultimates window box with an outer sleeve that reflects their allegiance to either the Autobots or Decepticons. Pre-orders are open until the 28th of February for this first wave. As per normal Super7 process, the items will then go into production based on pre-order numbers with a Winter 2021 release date. You can order direct from Super7 at an RRP of $55 per figure. Independent Retailers will also place orders and then facilitate orders via their site - often a better choice for UK buyers as the cost is clear upfront and will not include import costs from the US. There is no better way to roll out a new collection of Transformers than with the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime! Announced at the first Fan Event from Hasbro in 2021, are a number of brand new Vintage collection figures from The Return of the Jedi. These are also part of the Hasbro challenge of recreating the original 96 Kenner figures in the Vintage series and they will also be badged as part of the 50th Anniversary of Lucasfilm celebration. We have new figures of the AT-ST Driver, Paploo the Ewok and Princess Leia Organa in her Endor outfit. These are exclusive items to Walmart in the US and will arrive in Spring 2021. Its another Super7 announcement and a further collaboration with Hasbro in the shape of a new Power Rangers tie up for the Super7 team. This will include various product lines such as Re:Action and Ultimates 7 inch series figures! Planned Ultimates for a 2021 release include the Yellow Ranger, Green Ranger, Goldar, Tyrannosaurus DinoZord, and Putty Patroller. The first Hasbro Fan Event of 2021 has confirmed the final figure in the 4th wave of the Galaxy Collection alongside Bo-Katan, Asajj Ventress and the Bad Batch figures. In fact, the 5th and final figure of the wave is another Bad Batch figure - but perhaps not the one we were expecting. Rather than a named character, the figure is an army-builder Clone Trooper from Bad Batch called the Elite Squad Trooper. Alongside this announcement were official images for the Bad Batch Galaxy Collection packaging for Crosshairs and Hunter. Hasbro have announced a number of new Star Wars Black Series releases for 2021 during their first live fan event of 2021. In a similar vein to the 40th Anniversary figures, and to celebrate the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary, we will get a number of carded figures from the Sequels on Phantom Menace card backs. Mace Windu and the Battle Droid will be straight up repacks. The new Jar Jar Binks Deluxe figures gets an immediate repack on the the Vintage card, but with stripped back accessories to his spear only. And then the one that will please fans is a repack of Qui-Gon Jinn, but with a retool of the head and applied face print technology update. As part of the Hasbro Fan Event for Star Wars on 29th January, Hasbro have started to reveal some figures from further down the release "pipeline". While there are no images, the confirmation that these figures are being worked on for late 2021 and early 2022 releases. Black Series reveals in this presentation confirmed figures are being developed for Tech from the Bad Batch, Aurra Sing from the Phantom Menace. Zero the droid & Koska Reeves from The Mandalorian, and from Return of the Jedi, General Lando Calrissian. Vintage "pipeline" reveals were IG-11 from The Mandalorian and Lando Calrissian from The Empire Strikes Back. Amazon have listed three new Star Wars Black Series Exclusives coming to the Amazon global sites to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Lucasfilm. The figures are Kenner inspired figures and are packed on Vintage cardbacks. They go one step further than the previous 40th Anniversary figures by repainting the figures into their classic Kenner décor - the same process as was applied to the 2-pack in 2020 of 4-LOM and Zuckuss. The Jawa features a lighter base colour and comes with the a similar soft goods robe to the Off world Mandalorian version. Greedo arrives in his full green flight suit. And Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi is presented in the classic colouring and has a vinyl cape. It is also interesting to see Obi-Wan looks to have a photo-real face décor - which has not been released as yet, so there will likely be some head swaps going on with this. The figures are up on Amazon US, but not yet showing on Amazon UK (I will update this post when they do). They are listed as a May the 1st release date. NECA have released a full gallery of images for their next Back to the Future Release, the Marty McFly 'Audition" Ultimate figure. This is heading to Walmart as a timed exclusive as far as we understand, and at this stage while we have these promo images - there is no promo blurb or confirmed contents. We also do not have a release date as yet, but the packaging images would indicate it will be soon. From the images we can see the figure will feature a guitar, but the Amp looks to simply be a printed background image for the promo shots. There will be a family photo of Marty as well as a 'Save the Clock Tower' flyer. The Walkman from the earlier set will be packed again with this one. The odd inclusion is the fading right hand, which isn't associated with the outfit Marty is wearing - but should be from the Enchantment Under the Sea dance. The figure is of course a re-use of the first NECA Marty. Diamond Select have shared some new images for their Lord of the Rings Select Action Figures. Wave 1 of Gimli and Legolas was meant to be a late Summer 2020 release but have been subject to numerous delays and are now listed as a March 2021 release. Diamond have also updated the figures since the pre-order images, and the biggest contention so far is the removal of double jointed elbows to a single joint which will certainly impede Legolas in archery posing - this is disappointing, but not unusual in terms of changes as the figure goes through to production. The new images do now show Legolas with a bow and quiver or arrows, and Gimli with both axes. New Image (Left), Original Pre-order Image (Right) The packaging does not follow the Diamond Select large blister packs and moves to a window box design, it is unclear if this is a wider move away from the huge artwork blister cards Diamond have used for so long. The Sauron build-a-figure pieces can be seen to the right hand side as we look at the box. You will need to commit to purchase Series 2 (Ringwraith and Frodo) and Series 3 (TBC, but assumed as Aragorn and Orc) to build the full figure. In a surprise move during the Super7 week of reveals & teases, the Super7 team have announced that a Transformers line is coming to their 7 inch Ultimates scale. Transformers, as licenced by Hasbro who own the property, are already in the Re:Action 3.75 inch scale, but a 7 inch Ultimates line sounds very similar to the Transformers R.E.D. line that Hasbro have just launched. The very glittery image shared with the news gives nothing away, so we will have to wait how this progressed and what Super7 have planned for the line.
