The 3rd Series of Super7's G.I. Joe Ultimates line will feature figures of Scarlett, Doc, Cobra Trooper, and Storm Shadow - as teased last week. All four figures feature at least one additional head sculpt and alternative hands. They are then packed full of appropriate weaponry and accessories. Storm Shadow will feature a selection of swords as well as a bow and arrow, nunchucks, throwing stars, and sniper rifle. Scarlett is armed with a pair of crossbows and an assault rifle. Doc will feature a removable helmet, med-kit, satchel, laser gun, walkie-talkie, flare gun, flare launcher, and a comic book. As revealed at the weekend as part of the 20th Anniversary monthly reveals, the new Marvel Legends Jean Grey from the X-Men Animated Series has now gone live for pre-order. Jean will come with two head options and a 2nd pair of hands. The figure re-uses the 2019 Jean Grey included in the 80th Anniversary 3-pack. After a number of previews, the NECA Ultimate Brooklyn figure from their Gargoyles line has been unveiled fully ahead of an Autumn 2022 release. Based on the 1990's Disney cartoon, the figure of Brooklyn features two head options, alternative hands, sunglasses, torn pages of a book, and a sword. He will be packed in the Ultimate format with an opening front flap. Brooklyn is a September 2022 release. The History of the Daleks is a series of releases from Character Toys, exclusive to B&M Stores, containing two Daleks from a particular Doctor Who Dalek-centric story. It started in 2020 and was following a linear path from the earliest serial in 1964 until the Summer of 2021 when Character altered the release schedule to put out sets 5 and 7 at the same time - a decision made to reduce the amount of classic Silver & Blue Daleks on the shelf at any one time. That pushed the 6th set, from the 2nd Doctor story Evil of the Daleks, into the Winter releases for 2021 alongside a Planet of the Daleks Set (#8) from the 3rd Doctor era. The Evil of the Daleks set arrives in the smaller squat box established for the History of the Daleks line. It uses the same principles as the other packaging with a contrasting colour scheme of dark blue and grey-silver with a TARDIS outline pattern. The lefthand panel of the box front is slanted and carries the Doctor Who logo, and like the previous sets this partially obscures the 2nd Dalek in the packaging. The back of the box is very text-heavy with an almost too detailed walkthrough of the entire Evil of the Daleks story and then some Behind the Scenes information - which is always very insightful and demonstrates how passionate the Character Toys team are about Doctor Who and the classic era in particular. The two Daleks are slotted into an inner plastic tray that supports both the rear and base of the figures. You will need to extract them carefully so not to bend the appendages of the figures, and watch out for tape over the eyestalks which some sets seem to have. The cardboard insert that acts as the backing for the figures in the box is illustrated with a story-appropriate backdrop, namely the Evil of the Daleks Emperor. This can be used as a display piece but will need some tweaking considering the sides and top are plain brown cardboard. This is technically the first appearance of an Evil of the Dalek drone as the only previous release was the Guard (also included in this set). It uses the same Dalek chassis as all the classic era releases. This has been in use for many years and there is no real need to change considering how well it was sculpted and designed at the time in both details and proportions. The chassis has interchangeable parts allowing the Doctor Who team to amend not only the eyestalk, plunger, and gun, but also the base, the central solar panel grid, and the headlights. By 1967 the Daleks were using the panel & grid midsection as well as updated eye stalks and weapons - all of which are recreated on the Evil of the Daleks drone. The figure is cast in silver in the main with the blue added on the hemispheres. This is neat throughout but if you look closely there may be the odd drip or patched-up piece from the factory. This blue colour does vary a little from the older releases like the Power of the Daleks FX Drone, but time and fading will also come into that equation. The neck rings are set against a black grill and are just a little off centre on my Drone, and above them, we have the eyestalk - painted with the same blue across the midpoint and with a central white eye and a black pupil, something not seen on these era Daleks previously. The dome finishes with a pair of translucent yellow headlights. Like a lot of these sets, the sucker arm arrived warped, potentially a result of how they are packed? The Evil of the Daleks guard is identical to the drone with the exception of the dome that is cast in a dull black plastic. Like the Drone, the hemispheres are well painted in the main in a crisp blue with the odd patch on the set we have in hand here. Again the sucker arm is warped. The Guard Dalek has had a previous release back in 2009 in the 2nd Dalek Collectors Set and again in 2013 in the Toys R Us Doctor + Dalek releases. This new version is more or less identical to both with some minor colour variations. Articulation on the classic Daleks is essentially the same as the props or how we would find them in a real-world setting. The dome rotates a full 360 and the eyestalk pivots up and down by way of a slot and clipped in a semi-circular bracket. The plunger arm and gun have a wider range of motion as they are sculpted onto a ball joint that is then plugged into the body, they can be moved in any direction to the point the appendage meets the body of the Dalek. The Daleks are also fitted with wheels which keep them just slightly off a surface and allows them to be wheeled around. The back pair of wheels are fixed while the front works like a castor. The Evil of the Daleks set is another of the key Dalek stories ticked off and the last of the 1960's era Daleks. We can therefore wave goodbye to the iconic silver and blue colours but also revel in the Empire we have built over the past couple of years through these B&M sets - assuming you bought them all, and sometimes more than one like I did. This set offered little in terms of options for Character and while a Dalek Emperor remains a dream for many of us, it would not have fit into this format - leaving us with Drones and Guards as the two options for the release. There is not much to fault with the Character Dalek body and design and assuming the factory decor is neat and tidy then I am happy with what I get for my £19.99. Here's to the next few sets for History of the Daleks as we head into the likes of Death to the Daleks and of course the very iconic Genesis of the Daleks! While we are still waiting for Bruce the Shark from NECA, they have unveiled a brand new Jaws figure in the 8-inch action figure line. Matt Hooper, as seen in the Shark Tank dive sequence, will come with an articulated body wearing a tailored wetsuit. He has two head-sculpts, one with glasses and one without. Hooper will feature a number of accessories appropriate to the scenes including the flippers, oxygen tank, and goggles for his diving gear - as well as the underwater torch, knife, and spear used in the shark cage. NECA will put their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze 4-pack up for pre-order on the 22nd of March the anniversary of the release of the movie. The set will feature the four Turtles, each with alternative hands and weapons. There are then a selection of other accessories including Pizza Box & Pizza, Fire Extinguisher, and an Ooze Cannister. Details have been released for the next releases in the Jazwares, Wicked Cool Toys, Halo line of 6-inch figures. The release date is not clear as yet, and the line has been subject to delays in the past - with the UK in particular not actually seeing Wave 2 at retail let alone Wave 3 or 4. Wave 5 will feature figures of Jorge, Spartan Rogue, Combat Evolved Masterchief, and Kelly-087. In 2021 Hasbro announced that their Rogue One figures would get an update to the new photo-real face decor and be released in the Galaxy Collection packaging. Alongside these original re-releases was a new figure of Bodhi Rook to complete the crew, and two exclusive releases to expand the Rogue One roster - General Antoc Merrick, and Galen Erso. The Rogue One packaging uses a duck egg blue colour scheme against the black backdrop of the box, running around the centre and acting as an accent colour on the side image of Galen in his Imperial Research Facility uniform. The rear of the box carries a repeat of this image and a short piece of text "Galen Erso was coerced into using kyber crystals to enhance energy yields - work the weaponized to create the Death Star's superlaser." Out of the pack and immediately something is off about Galen? Most exclusives rely on a level of re-use or repainting but Galen Erso is a real Frankenstein of a figure with parts that do not quite go together. The arms and hands are taken from The Grand Moff Tarkin, a figure that itself had quite oversized head and hands, and these look quite lengthy against the other body proportions. The legs are taken from Cloud City Lando, including the side seam and the Cuban heeled shoes - shoes that were far too small on Lando and look even worse on Galen. In actual fact, his hands are nearly bigger than his feet. For the upper body, we have a new jacket piece for the Imperial Uniform over what we assume is a generic torso. All the body pieces are cast in the green-grey drab Imperial colours with the paint applied only for the belt and buckle, and the light blue shoulder section of the uniform complete with the code cylinders set to either side. The uniform is finished with an Imperial Research decal applied to the right shoulder. The head sculpt is new and carries a passing likeness to Mads Mikkelsen but looks too small on the body with the neckpiece actually the same width as the head. The photo-real decor does add a level of realism to the head with the dark shading around the eyes, the shading on the cheeks and mouth, and the neatly trimmed facial hair. When you look at Galen Erso on screen in his Rogue One scenes while wearing the Imperial uniform he has much more facial stubble and his hair is messy (or wet) and not the neat side parting we get with this figure. The head we have been given is the more groomed and neatly presented Galen we see in flashbacks in his Imperial Uniform - and either that likeness was incorrectly used for this figure, or an Imperial Uniform Galen is also in the works. The hair is painted in one colour only so lacks definition and doesn't quite cover all the way down so I do have a flesh coloured line on my figure - as well as blue paint on the neck from the uniform paint job. Galen comes with a solitary accessory, a re-use of the Death Star plans originally packed with the Rebel Fleet Trooper. While they do have a strong link to the character and the storyline for Rogue One it is not an item we see Galen hold or use in any of his scenes. The piece is cast in grey with a shaped edge and gold circular panel on either side. It fits neatly into either of Galen's hands. I have thought long and hard over any items or accessories Galen may use on screen in Rogue One and cannot come up with a better option - other than a generic blaster, or perhaps an information tablet or even an MSE droid as a pack in. We get a total of 17 points of articulation on Galen Eros, including a newer format dual joint neck. The arm and leg joints - having come from older figures - use the older joints with double joints at the knees, with visible pins, and a single rotating elbow. The ankle rockers work fine, but the smaller feet do make standing Galen a little trickier, you will probably need to widen the stance a little. I cannot help feeling disappointed with this new addition to the Black Series. It is a figure that has compromised itself through the re-use of other parts but is probably only a few tweaks away from being great. There is nothing wrong with the Tarkin arms, but the hands needed to be smaller. The Lando legs also work but he needed new shoes that would be both larger and more aligned to an Imperial uniform. The head probably needed to be a touch bigger and with slightly messier hair and more stubble. What we get is passable as Galen Erso but he will most likely sit more towards the back of your display than proudly at the front - although I suspect the more talented customisers may be able to tweak the figure to look much more He is not likely to get a do-over at any point, so this is perhaps the best we can hope for - although considering how the head sculpt looks vs the onscreen appearances, I suspect an Imperial Uniform Galen Erso is in the works. Hasbro have revealed some new Power Rangers Lightning Collection items, starting with a new 6-inch figure 2-pack based on the Boom! Comics story where Trinni and Jason swapped colours. The "Swap" 2-pack will feature Jason as the Yellow Ranger and Trinni as the Red Ranger. They will come with alternative heads as well as Power Ranger weapons and effect parts. The set is a limited edition and will be released in December 2022. There is also a new addition to the Power Rangers helmet for Lord Drakkon. This 1:1 scale wearable piece will comes with a display stand and has a December 2022 release date. IT’S MORPHIN TIME!
