All this year, Hasbro are celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Marvel Legends line with reveals and teases published on the 20th of each month. The May 20th reveal was the next figure in the X-Men Animated VHS series with this image of the packaging for Morph. He is the sixth figure to be unveiled and joins Wolverine, Jubilee, Mr. Sinsister, Storm, and Jean Grey. The figure itself will be revealed in the near future. At the time of writing, we have only seen a short teaser trailer for Thor: Love & Thunder and in this, we see Thor in a variety of different looks and costumes. The more casual Ravager Thor was one of two Thor's released in the debut Love & Thunder Marvel Legends wave, while this figure was the other - the gold & blue armoured Thor. This review is written ahead of the movie release and is done so only with the information to hand via the packaging of each figure and the teaser trailer from late April 2022. I will update these reviews once the film has been released. This review may contain minor spoilers but only in the context of any information provided on the package or visually on the figure. The Love & Thunder Thor the standard Legends box with no specific accent colour and rather a strong use of the blue through red scheme we see in the movie logo from the box front. The two side panels carry a mirror image of a helmeted Thor and this is repeated again on the reverse. Beneath this is the checklist for the Korg BAF and to the side of the image is the standard background text that gives us very little in terms of the movie's plot. "Thor unleashes the power of Stormbreaker to overcome any foe" This armoured version of Thor from Love & Thunder appears to be an enhanced version of the armour he has worn throughout the MCU but with a gold and blue colour scheme that perhaps draws inspiration from the Battle Armour we saw debut in the comic series in the 1980's complete with a half-face gold 'birds beak' helmet. He stands close to 7-inch tall which is half a head taller than Ravager Thor in the same wave. The majority of the figure is new as far as I can tell with the armour configuration different from the Dark World or Age of Ultron Thor figures, and of course, the body shape is much different to Endgame Thor. The arms I think are from the Dark World Thor, the pins at the elbow joints are a giveaway when the rest of the figure is pinless. The paintwork is exquisite and they have certainly gone to town on Thor with the decoration. Over the base black body we have a blue fish scale armour and panelled lines, then silver and finally gold sections and arms. The lining between each panel and colour is crisp and clean and I cant see any immediate errors or issues. There is a question of accuracy with this armour at this time as all the images and trailer footage show Thor without the helmet and without any fish scale armour on his arms? This look is further substantiated by the S.H. Figuarts version which also doesn't include the helmet or armoured arms. Of course, the armour is part of the 'Power of Thor' and we've seen in previous guises he can armour up and down at will so this may just be the full armoured ready for battle Thor. Only time will tell if the figure is accurate or another concept design slip? The costume is finished by Thor's iconic red cape that is a direct contrast to all of the blue, gold and black armoured pieces. It connects at the shoulders and flows as a solid but partially flexible plastic piece down to the floor. As seen on other recent caped figures, the sculptors have included some natural flow into the material so it does kick out to one side as though curled by a breath of wind. The head is sculpted under the golden helmet, but the helmet is fixed into place and is not removable. Like the armour the helmet is bright gold with blue highlights. The mouth and beard are open and are executed as well as any unmasked Thor. The same can be said of the eyes, but the position of the helmet eye-slots in relation to the eyes does give a cross-eyed look that is unfortunate. The helmet is also quite wide and sits quite low and when you factor in the high shoulder panels and the cape it does give the impression that Thor doesn't have a neck. The hair is sculpted flowing out from beneath the helmet in a dynamic wind-blown fashion, this makes the head more mobile on the joint but perhaps won't be everyone's cup of tea? Thor arrives with a gripping hand and an open hand similar to what we've had previously for summoning Lightning. There is a third hand included to swap out with the right hand only to make a closed fist. I feel like a pair of alternative clenched fists would have been better as it's the gesturing hand I struggle with when posing - particularly as there are no lightning effect parts included. Thor is armed with Stormbreaker, and this is the same accessory as the Ravager Thor with a sculpted wooden handle and painted gun-metal silver hammerhead. It fits only into the gripping right hand and with no second left-hand grip, two-handed poses are also difficult - though not impossible if you can balance the open left hand in the right place. When you consider the unhelmeted look seen in the teaser, it is a shame that only one head is included with this set. Hasbro do sort of have us covered as the neck joint is the same as Ravager Thor as well as many other Thor figures so you can head swap around as needed. Even if we do see this fully armoured Thor in the movie, I suspect Hasbro will bring us a variant of this figure using this unmasked head and perhaps unarmoured arms? This would fit into a 2-pack format for later in 2022 once the movie has been released? *this image shows the armoured Thor with the Ravager Thor head - an alternative head is not included Thor has 18 points of articulation and is a breeze to pose and play with. There are some restrictions around the arms as the cape sits quite wide over the shoulders. The legs also are hemmed in a little by the skirt and of course, can't do much more than upright standing positions due to the cape which stretches all the way to the floor. I do find the shoulder ratchet very stiff once again - the same issue as seen on Valkyrie and Jane Foster Thor - so be mindful when raising the arm as it can put stress on the bicep swivel. All the other joints are tight, secure and without any concerns. Thor is simple to stand and holds his pose well. The 'Battle Armour' Thor will split opinion I think considering it is much brighter and bolder than we've ever seen Thor and uses a face-covering helmet. How accurate it is to the film will have to be seen but this armour is certainly something we do see in Love & Thunder as elements of it are clearly visible in the teaser trailer. Out of all the Love & Thunder figures, this is probably the best in terms of decor and paint application. And he does get a spare hand - something others are missing - although it really should have been a pair of clenched fists or at least the spare should have been the left hand. Articulation is spot on and the Stormbreaker accessory fits really well with the figure. This is probably a look we will see again sooner rather than later considering the unmasked options already open to Hasbro thanks to the Ravager Thor head. For now, this is certainly a figure I'd recommend taking a look at in person if you can as it certainly is another one better in hand vs the promotional images. We left Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie as the ruler of New Asgard at the end of Avengers: Endgame and she will return in Thor: Love & Thunder with the title of King Valkyrie, sporting a new look armour and cape - a combination of the black and white armours she sports in Thor: Ragnarok. How King Valkyrie fits into the overall narrative is as yet unclear. This review is written ahead of the movie release and is done so only with the information to hand via the packaging of each figure and the teaser trailer from late April 2022. The Love & Thunder King Valkyrie uses the standard Legends box with no specific accent colour and rather a strong use of the blue through red scheme we see in the movie logo from the box front. The name King Valkyrie is significant to the conversation between Thor and Valkyrie at the end of Endgame. The two side panels carry a mirror image of an armoured Valkyrie and this is repeated again on the reverse. Beneath this is the checklist for the Korg BAF and to the side of the image is the background text which does give us a little bit more info as to the context of her role in Love & Thunder. "When a dangerous new visitor threatens the livelihood of New Asgard, King Valkyrie is forced to take up her sword once more to defend her people." Valkyrie is an entirely new sculpt for her updated Love & Thunder look. This new armour retains aspects of the two different armours she wore in Ragnarok with a jet black base and contrasting crisp gloss white panels across the chest area and into the smaller skirt. Like Thor, she sports circular silver panels down the chest panels and at the fastening section of her cape. Further detailing on the sculpt includes straps and ringlets on the legs - although these are sadly unpainted. The dagger you can see in her right boot is a sculpted piece only and cannot be removed. All of the paint is neat and well applied. There is also a good level of coverage from the white considering it is over a black base. The only issue is on the two white panels on the shirt piece which do go a bit murky at the end. Valkyrie is wearing a bright azure blue cape, cast in plastic and fixed on Valkyrie's shoulders. It features a more dynamic shape as though blowing slightly in the wind which adds character vs the static capes we sometimes see. The head is a new sculpt of Tessa Thompson and the overall likeness is good, but like Star-Lord from the same wave it looks better from certain angles - particularly the side rather than from face on. The photo-real face print is applied to the eyes and lips to enhance the realism. The hairpiece features a lengthy braised section that runs the full length of Valkyrie's back. Within this are sections of blue braid, while the overall finish is simply left as the base colour for the hair and with no added paint decor. Valkyrie comes with her Dragonfang sword, and this is a new version of the sword and is a big improvement on the very soft versions released previously with Valkyrie figures. It features a pearlescent green-hued blade inlaid with some sculpted patterns just ahead of the guard. The guard itself is painted silver, as is the pommel and between them sits a bright white grip. The Dragonfang fits only into the right hand of Valkyrie, with her left hand having been sculpted in an open gesture - no spare hand options are included which is a shame. When not in use there is no scabbard as such but the blade will slot into one of the straps at Valkyrie's hit and sit in place. This is not overly secure so be mindful if you use this for display purposes. There are 18 points of articulation across the figure in total and the entire body is pinless as is now standard for Legends releases and this enhances the look overall, particularly on the uncovered arms. The arms head and torso have a wide range of movement and options but without alternative hands, the weapon posings do tend to be via the right-handed single grip only unless you can prop the left hand in position. As seen on other 2022 releases, the shoulder articulation is very tight and with a heavy ratchet that does make movement a bit harder and you do have to watch for putting too much stress on the bicep joint. The legs too are fully mobile, just difficult to execute in most poses due to the plastic cape. Valkyrie stands well enough on her wedged heeled boots but you may need to turn the thigh swivel out slightly which does cut across the line of sculpted thigh detail. Like others in the wave, it is not immediately clear if Valkyrie is a good likeness to her onscreen Love & Thunder appearance as we have only seen Tessa Thompson in a single teaser scene so far where she is wearing a business suit of sorts. It does look pretty accurate against a solitary set photo and an image shared by Thompson herself during the production of her costume - so we do look to be on safe ground. Like many of the other Love & Thunder figures, Valkyrie's design is bold and bright with that blue cape standing out against the usual red colouring we see associated with Thor and the golden armour of Asgard itself. The likeness is good, without being spectacular, and the paint execution is crisp across most of the armoured detail. Articulation is also good, and the Dragonfang has had a very impressive upgrade from the very soft version seen previously. My only ask would have been a second pair of hands to allow for some display options. All in all, it is good to see another Valkyrie figure so soon and within a wave that appears to have brought together most of the Love & Thunder protagonists in short order ahead of the movie release. We know very little about Gorr in terms of his upcoming MCU appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder, other than he is being played by Batman actor Christian Bale. Gorr is one of the seven Love & Thunder Marvel Legends figures released in April 2022 ahead of the movie's release in July. This review is written ahead of the movie release and is done so only with the information to hand via the packaging of each figure and the teaser trailer from late April 2022. The Love & Thunder Gorr uses the standard Legends box with no specific accent colour and rather a strong use of the blue through red scheme we see in the movie logo from the box front. He is named simply Gorr and while this may be significant to the plot, the most likely reason for not using 'The Godbutcher' part of his title is to avoid any negative press when the figures arrive on store shelves. The two side panels carry a mirror image of Gorr, and this is repeated again on the reverse. Beneath this is the checklist for the Korg BAF and to the side of the image is the standard background text that simply adds more mystery and gravitas to the character. "Wielding a strange and terrifying weapon, Gorr will let nothing stand in his way." Gorr is an all-new sculpt and features a full pinless body. He is dressed in a simple white robe with a central sash and an over-the-shoulder cape. His skin tone is a slightly darker shade of off-white than the robes and features particular markings which may or may not be scars. His fingertips are black and there has been some speculation around this considering what this indicated when the feature appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Both robes and cloak feature a texture similar to rough cloth and the sash piece is intricately sculpted with folded and creased cloth through to a simple tied fastening at the rear. Each body part is cast in the base colour with paint applied over the top to create some subtle weathering at the base of the lower skirt, and a darkening and slightly pinkish skin tone around the scars up the arms. The head sculpt leaves you in no doubt that this is Christian Bale, with such a crisp and clear likeness despite the bald head, pale skin, and deformities. These deformed sections are a similar scarring to the arms, but next to these we also have a purple rash that branches out on both sides of the head and down the neck. The photo-real decor is intense, as it not only recreates realism for the Bale sculpt but the colouring is aligned to the Gorr makeup with purple eyes and a deep dark colouring around the eyes and a similar dark purple unnatural finish to the lips. While we have not seen any images of Gorr save the ones on the figure's packaging, this is the best likeness of the Thor: Love & Thunder wave and the only concern would be how this look does line up with what we will see on screen. Will it be accurate? Or will Gorr be another figure who is flawed by being based on early concept art and designs? You can remove the cloak from Gorr to give a second look for the figure. Again this may be something we see on screen, it may not, but it does look good and gives Gorr an even more intimidating look like some kind of warrior monk - with vibes also of the Engineers from Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Gorr comes with the mysterious and terrifying weapon as quoted on the box. We are all assuming this is the All-Black, the blade Gorr wields in the comics and that originates with Knull the creator of the Symbiotes. The piece certainly has a little bit of a Venom-Esque vibe with a rough and notched blade that does look organic in places. The handle is however very much more grounded with an Arthurian feel and with potential links to the blade we see Dane Whitman inspecting at the end of Eternals. The sword is cast in a dark black finish with a painted brown grip a gunmetal colour used on the crossguard and the pommel. The sword fits into the right hand of Gorr, with the left hand sculpted in a more open gesture. There is no way to holster or store the weapon. While Gorr is a robed figure he still features 18 points of articulation across a fully pinless body. The upper body has a wide range of options for posing with the double joint elbows allowing for plenty of weapon grips and poses - including a sort of two-handed grip with careful placement of the left hand. The head is also able to tilt and look up or down, giving some personality to Gorr - although without a reference point we simply do not know who he carries himself, how he moves or how indeed he fights. The legs have the full joint complement but are held in by the fixed skirt. You can use the slits in the skirt to widen the stance but kneeling or sitting is out. I found Gorr a little harder than usual to stand up as his feet are very close together and the ankle rockers are ratcheted so the feet do not fully sit flat to the floor. This means Gorr can overbalance both forward and backward if you are not careful. The easiest fix is to rotate the feet out a little using the thigh swivel to create a wider base. While Gorr looks amazing and is executed in such a way that the Christian Bale likeness shines through - the strength of this figure will depend on the accuracy of the on-screen Gorr. Without any reference images so far, we may find this another example of Hasbro working with pre-release concept designs and in that case the figure may well become much-maligned for its inaccuracy like Cull Obsidian or the Endgame Quantum Suits and we may need to wait on Hasbro to do Gorr 'properly'. If, on the flip-side, this is the look for Gorr on screen then the figure will become more desirable, although the lack of accuracy to the comic book will disappoint some. I have a feeling this may be an early look for Gorr and we may see an evolution during the movie - and that should mean more Gorr figures to come. For now, and until the movie confirms, either way, the Gorr figure is a triumph of looks, sculpt, actor likeness, paint, texture, and to a degree articulation - although some sacrifices have been made here. The sword (All-Black?) will again be judged by accuracy to the movie, but as an accessory, this works as it should and can be wielded in a number of positions. For now, buy Gorr and enjoy Gorr. We will know more come July. As revealed earlier this week via ShartimusPrime, Diamond Select Toys are releasing a new Red Hulk figure in their Marvel Select 7-inch scale line. This new addition uses the Immortal Hulk body and a new Red Hulk head. He will stand 9-inches tall and includes the usual 16 points of articulation. The Hasbro Marvel Legends team took to Instagram today for a 30min live video presentation in which they revealed quite a lot of new Marvel Legends figures. All of the figures revealed - bar one - are open for pre-order as of the 19th of May 2022. The piece started with a look at the next reveal for the Disney+ wave and it is a new Sharon Carter from last year's The Falcon & The Winter Soldier. It is unclear why this has not been released earlier considering there is no spoilers in doing so. The wave we know now contains Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, Moon Knight, Mr. Knight, and Sharon Carter with the Infinity Ultron BAF. There are two slots left with Ms. Marvel almost certain to be one of them. Sharon's promo blurb lists here release as March 2023 so the date on the next Disney+ wave is not moving as yet. Moving to the Retro carded line and there were reveals for Firelord on a Fantastic Four card back as well as a War Machine on a Retro Iron-Man Card - this one is a repaint of the Modular Iron-Man figure. Spider-Man Bombastic Bag-Man was also shown, he is a US Target Exclusive - and will go to Toys R Us in Canada. In the UK he is a Fan Channel Exclusive. War Machine and Bag-Man are listed for a December 2022 release with Firelord planned for January 2023. Fans of the 3.75 inch Retro Series can look forward to a larger format and scaled figure of a Sentinel to display with your retro figures. He features two head options and effect parts and will ship in January 2023. Joining the line-up for the 'Beyond Amazing' Spider-Man 60th Anniversary is the niche figure of the Toei Spider-Man from the Japanese cult TV series. He will be in the new closed box format. The Toei Japanese Spider-man is planned for a January 2023 release. The final, and largest, reveal is a Summer Convention Exclusive box-set called Mojo World. The pack will feature a new Mojo figure as well as Dazzler, Longshot, and Wolverine Slug. The set is packed in a Retro TV outer box, and inside the figures are packed in VHS-styled boxes as well as a box that resembles the TV remote. Mojo World is a December 2022 release. Earlier this year, Todd McFarlane unveiled his new 'Page Punchers' line, a series of limited articulation 4-inch figures that would each be packed with a comic book. It seems the McFarlane team are now extending this format to a 7-inch scale 'Page Punchers' series and this new line will kick off with a Black Adam-themed wave of four figures. The launch wave will feature a new Black Adam figure, Batman, Superman, and John Constantine. They will each come with an exclusive Black Adam comic, we assume the comics will be different with each figure and are part of a wider serial - although the covers all appear identical. The figures are packed under the DC Direct badge, not the standard DC Multiverse line, but they look to include the same level of articulation and also feature the same circular display base and collectible card. Accessories include batarangs for Batman, a flight stand for Superman, a magic book and effect for Constantine, and a pair of green lightning effects for Black Adam. The price point is $24.99 in the US, which will likely translate to circa £22-£25 in the UK. The figures are due for an August 2022 release. We last saw Jane Foster in the MCU during the events of Thor: The Dark World, with the time-travel scenes in Avengers: Endgame calling back to the events from Dark World on Asgard. In 2022's Thor: Love & Thunder, Jane will somehow pick up the mantle of Mighty Thor and will wield Mjolnir and acts as an ally (we assume) to Thor himself. This review is written ahead of the movie release and is done so only with the information to hand via the packaging of each figure and the teaser trailer from late April 2022. I will update these reviews once the film has been released. This review may contain minor spoilers but only in the context of any information provided on the package or visually on the figure. The Love & Thunder Mighty Thor uses the standard Legends box with no specific accent colour and rather a strong use of the blue through red scheme we see in the movie logo from the box front. The two side panels carry an image of the transformed Jane Foster as The Mighty Thor, and this is repeated again on the reverse. Beneath this is the checklist for the Korg BAF and to the side of the image is the standard background text that confirms as much as we'd worked out ourselves without any specific plot points or spoilers. "Jane Foster's life is forever changed when she mysteriously comes to possess the hammer Mjolnir... and the power of the Mighty Thor" The figure is all-new, and the design principles of the costume are certainly heavily drawn from the Jason Aaron Thor saga. The majority of the body is a black base plastic over which is painted the silver panels of the Asgardian armour. The boots are painted a deep burgundy with further silver armour and the same colouring is used on the bracers on either arm. A rubber skirt section is used on her waist and features more silver panels. And the iconic red cape is cast in red and attached at the shoulders to flow, as a semi-rigid piece, to the floor behind Jane. When you look closer, there are further painted details in the body such as a red v-section on the chest that lines up with the cape, and further detailing on Thor's midriff and skirt piece. Painting overall is to a good standard but there are coverage issues on the skirt where the silver is dull and doesn't cover the burgundy as far as it should. The two roundels that hold the cape to the chest piece are also poorly painted with a red hue still visible through the silver and very rough edging - thankfully they do get covered by the hair. Mighty Thor is well proportioned and stands 6-inches high which does make her larger than the Black Series Padme that people are using for likeness comparisons, but in the Legends line - which is traditionally larger - she scales really well with the other Love & Thunder figures and the wider collection. We do not have many reference images for the movie and for Mighty Thor as yet, but from what we do have the costume and overall look are pretty accurate. Mighty Thor arrives with an unmasked Jane Foster head fitted. The likeness to Natalie Portman is good, if not as strong as some other recent female releases. She looks great from side angles, but face on there is certainly something a little too rounded in the face and she perhaps is missing the prominent cheek structure we are familiar with, particularly because of Star Wars. As usual, the photo-real face print technology enhances the sculpt with a realistic finish to the eyes and mouth in particular. The hair, and particularly its colour, was a cause of some debate when the figure was released as it is very blonde. It does transition from a very yellow blonded at the tips to a darker finish at the roots and again, from what we have seen of Jane Foster Thor the colouring is going to be movie accurate. The set includes an alternative winged helmet look for Mighty Thor, again straight off the pages of the Jason Aaron series. In my opinion, this is the far superior head for Mighty Thor as it both completes the look fully, while still has a good likeness to Portman from the parts we can see and that remain treated with the photo-real decor application. It is also a nod back to Hemsworth Thor's first appearance and features a similar look to the one used in Ragnarok. Swapping out the heads is easy enough and the hair on both pieces are designed to sit on the shoulders fairly snugly without looking like it is floating. If you do get that effect then a bit of warm water or gentle heat on the hair will allow you to flatten it back down. Mighty Thor is packed with Mjolnir, and this is a brand new version of Thor's hammer rather than a re-use of the accessory used for a number of years on other Thor figures. This 2022 version features, when you get up close to it, the fracture marks caused when Hela broke it apart in Ragnarok. Ideally, and like the older Mjolnir's, some paint app on the hammer's head would have just brought this detail out a little more - but Hasbro has chosen to leave this section unpainted in a flat dull grey. The handle is painted with a brown base and spiraling silver design down to the pommel. And here at the end, we have the brown strap, executed once again in a fixed plastic which does limit the posing of the hammer if you want the strap to look natural in the way it is holding itself. Mjolnir can only sit into Jane's right hand which is cast in a grip, the left hand is in a more open position and there are no extra hands included. As soon as I unpacked Mighty Thor I did feel the hammer looked too big in Jane's hands. I put this down to Jane being of a smaller build than Thor, but on further checking this new 2022 Mjolnir is somehow larger than the ones that have gone before and I am not sure if that works for me? Articulation is a total of 18 points across a fully pinless body that enhances the looks without sacrificing movement. Both knees and arms are double-jointed, supported by bicep and thigh swivels accordingly. I can't make out any butterfly shoulders, and if they are there then they are recessed too far in the chest cavity to add any value. The shoulder joint themselves are hard to move and can put too much stress on the bicep joints if you are not careful when raising or lowering the arms. While the legs have a full range of motion, the fixed plastic cape holds back most poses. Mighty Thor is easy enough to pose and holds for display really well with secure ankles and knees. The Jane Foster Mighty Thor is certainly a stand-out figure in a wave that does include a lot of repeat characters and similar looks to previous movies. The design of the costume from the MCU is nailed on initially and translates really well to action figure form - while remaining pretty accurate to the source material. So much so that I have seen some comic book figure collectors considering purchasing this one for their display. There are a couple of paint issues that I would have liked to have been executed better, particularly that coverage of the roundels that hold the cape. Mjolnir is also a niggle coming in larger than the previous versions and looking even more oversized in Jane's hands. I'd also have liked to have seen more paint apps to bring out that fractured look they worked into the sculpt. Mighty Thor perhaps needed some alternative hands, and I could have lost the unmasked head to support this as it is certainly a much more impressive look for the figure overall. Out of all the Love & Thunder figures from Wave 1, Mighty Thor is certainly up there with Gorr and Ravager Thor for looks, execution, and collector appeal and I look forward to seeing how she comes to life on screen when the movie comes round in July. Revealed at Mezco's own virtual Toy Fair in early 2022, the One:12 Collective Amazing Spider-man figure has now been revealed in all its glory with pre-orders now open and a release date between December 2022 and February 2023. This $120 Deluxe Edition Amazing Spider-Man features a total of five heads, three are masked with one including a light-up eyes feature. A fourth head is partly masked to recreate Spidey-Sense, and the final head is an unmasked Peter Parker.
