The Hasbro Transformers Live Stream on the 31st of January 2023 saw the team release details on a batch of new Legacy Evolution figures arriving in May 2023. There are figures across Core, Deluxe, Leader, and Voyager assortments. Pre-orders are already open at Hasbro Transformers Stockists. Transformers Legacy Evolution Core Assortment (Ages 8 and up | Available May 2023) Transformers Legacy Evolution Grimlock stands at 3.5-inches tall and is inspired by The Transformers animated series. Kaiyodo has shared an image of a new Amazing Yamaguchi Revotech Marvel figure of an Armoured Moon Knight. The preview image does show the figure will come with a soft goods cape. McFarlane have revealed two new 7-inch scale DC Multiverse statues, releasing under the DC Direct banner that they now control and manage for Warner Bros. The statues feature The Joker who is baed on artwork by Guillem March, and Harley Quinn who is based on artwork by Emanuela Lupacchino. The ieces are imited edition and numbered on the statue base. The Emperor Shao Kahn will be the next Storm Collectibles Mortal Kombat release, arrivng at some point in Q3 2023. The figure will come as a basic 6-inch scale release, and as a larger Deluxe Release complete with Throne. Both figures are Big Bad Toy Store exclusives for US collectors. Both releases feature Shao Kahn's spear and hammer as well as 5 pairs of hand options. The standard version has two head sculpts, while the Deluxe version comes with three heads as well as a second spear, and the Deluxe Throne. McFarlane have revealed a new 12-inch static Batman statue in their DC Multiverse line. Before we go any further I will warn everyone that I have seen The Batman and I will be referring to plot points and the onscreen appearance of The Riddler through this review. If you haven't seen the movie - which is awesome by the way - then I won't be offended if you exit now and avoid any spoilers. While The Riddler is a movie release, it still falls within the McFarlane DC Multiverse line and uses the identical black window box packaging with the simple addition of the red The Batman logo on the front, just under the DC Multiverse logo. The character name is confirmed on the box front on a side panel to the main window and is confirmed in big bold letters on the right-hand spine of the packaging. Round the back, we have a full image of The Riddler figure in an atmospheric shot holding a roll of duct tape. While there is loads of space on the box reverse, there is no background text or movie synopsis - simply a four-figure checklist of other figures released in the line. The four images are of Catwoman, Penguin, Batman, and the motorbike, but the images are very dark so it's not overly easy to make each of them out. The sticker you can see on our box reverse is the Bandai UK distributor's details. As is the case with all the McFarlane figures, the figure is packed onto an inner plastic tray with twist ties and against a backing card which for DC Multiverse is a wonderful blue montage of comic book art. Sadly they still chose to glue a tray on this holding the stand and you, therefore, ruin the packaging if you want to use the stand. I am not sure why this can't simply be inserted as part of the inner tray? The Riddler stands almost dead on 7-inches tall and is sculpted in the outfit that he wears for most of the movie, and the outfit we see his followers adopt for the finale. This is made up of a green cast parker jacket complete, black combat trousers, black boots, and black gloves. Each piece of clothing has a wealth of sculpted detail including the fabric folds and creases as well as pockets and buttons. Sadly, most are left in the base plastic colour with the only paint application across the costume on the collar section of the coat where we can see a slightly lighter painted fleece underneath and some cream where the collar folds over. This is a real shame as there is loads of detail in the figure that would have been enhanced with some colour touches or washes. The Riddler panel on the left breast pocket was something not seen in the movie with the question mark symbol daubed on the coat itself. While it is easy to say this may have been something from earlier concepts of the outfit - McFarlane's 12-inch version of The Riddler released at the same time is screen accurate. While the panel looks glued on, I suspect it will leave an empty socket underneath where it plugs into the jacket. The head is an excellent piece of engineering and features the green wrapped mask which is an individual piece placed over what I assume is at least a partially sculpted and painted head underneath. Over this are glued the transparent glasses as worn through the movie and as a potential nod to the Jim Carey Riddler in Batman Forever. The glasses are see-through but are quite thick and while that does magnify the eyes underneath it also obscures the details. The glasses are also not glued straight on mine, and this was an issue on all of the others I looked at on the shelf. While the skewed position is sort of in keeping with the character it does bug me each time I look at him. The back of the head is very cleverly encased in a clear plastic sleeve with the green straps of the mask going over the top. This confused me at first, but having seen the movie this is trying to replicate the tape and clear plastic Riddler has over his head in all his scenes. While not explained this is likely to avoid leaving any forensics. Like the glasses, this wrap is clear and shows the hair and ears beneath. The Riddler comes with a single accessory, the carpet tucking tool or 'Tucker' as it's called in the movie when the Gotham Police identify what it is for. This is very well detailed for the scale and includes a T-shaped handle and broad flat-edged blade. Riddler comes with only a single set of hands, with the left a clenched fist, so the tool can only be held in the right hand. You will have to tease the fingers a little to widen the grip so he can hold the Tucker securely. The set includes the McFarlane DC Multiverse collectible art card, using the same art as seen on the reverse of the box. The Riddler is shown on the box and the art card with a roll of duct tape, a pose you see in the movie and this would have made a wonderful accessory - but sadly it was either only done for the promo shots, or was dropped for production. A circular black display base with a single peg and a gloss black DC logo is also included. It fits the figure well and does provide some level of support for display. The box has the figure down as including 22 points of articulation which is counting the individual movements of each joint. On joints alone, he has 16 points of articulation with a very good range of arm movement thanks to the double-jointed elbows, bicep swivel, and shoulder joint. The legs are less impressive as they include a double joint knee, but no thigh swivel. This leaves the ankle to do all the work in terms of any rotation needed and giving it this movement on top of the usual ankle rocker format has created a weak spot and The Riddler is very prone to falling forward thanks to the very loose and flimsy ankles, even with some level of ratcheting built into the joint. The figure does do what I want it to do which is look menacing and brandish the 'Tucker' in a few different ways and providing you can get a stable pose at the ankles he is an excellent display piece with or without the stand. I thought The Batman was an excellent comic book movie and gives a very different look at Batman without giving anyone a significant origin story within the film. The Riddler is an excellent villain, and a modern take on the comic book version - complete with online followers, TikTok style videos, and an interesting choice in murder weapons. While I can sit here and bemoan the missing roll of tape seen on the promo art, and the lack of a wash on the outfit - the Riddler remains a £19.99 figure at a time when smaller 6-inch figures are pushing £25 and up. In terms of value for money, The Riddler is great, and while I am not an 'all in' DC Multiverse collector I am now seeking out some of the other characters from the movie. The Megafig format from McFarlane is a series of larger figures from their various licences, usually at around a £35-£40 price point. After a number of vehicle releases in the DC Multiverse line, the Megafig's were introduced in 2021 starting with the larger figures of Steppenwolf and Darkseid from Zack Snyder's Justice League. The first comic book Megafig was Swamp Thing in late 2021, and then soon after we had the arrival of Clayface and Titan Joker in the Spring of 2022. This is my first Megafig review and I've been kindly helped by my Son who's figure this is as he is the DC Collector of the family. The Megafig format uses an oversized version of the usual DC Multiverse window boxes. This features the black base colour with white trim and the central DC Multiverse logo on top of the character name. The back features a full image of Clayface but lacks any background information or any checklists of other releases. Extending the box size does also reduce the overall strength as the larger window across the deeper box is a weak spot when handling the box and the window is very easily crumpled - certain an issue for boxed collectors. Like all of the McFarlane boxed figures, the figure itself sits in a plastic tray and is tied into position. Behind this is the blue cartoon montage backdrop and onto this is glued the circular base and collectable card. Neither can be removed without damaging the packaging - a flaw for a box that is designed to be re-sealed. I also wonder how relevant the display stand is considering it's the same size as one used for a standard figure and is lost under the sheer girth of Clayface's feet. There are no accessories or alternative parts included in the set. The big miss therefore for some would be the lack of any clay weapon hands as seen in the comics. Clayface measures 8.5 inches both in height and in width and is a hefty piece in hand. McFarlane does appear to have maintained the lower end price-point by using hollow plastic sections for the torso and lower legs in particular. It also employs rubbery sections for the stomach and groin area that allows for the sculpt to continue in full while the joints are engineered underneath. The figure itself is based on Clayface as he is seen in the 2016 Rebirth series. The sculpt is amazing and features an insane amount of details across the body with various faces and hands visible within the melting clay finish. There are also a number of spikes across the back and arms, while the occasional use of clay 'blisters' and 'dripping clay' just finishes off the grotesque body nicely. The head is a two-part piece that sits at the front of the torso rather than on the top - there is no defined neck. The lower jaw piece includes a protruding chin and an inner ring of teeth set back within a sculpted mouth that is exposed as the jaw opens. The paintwork is applied over the base brown plastic and includes a darker brown wash, that brings out the details of the sculpt, as well as light brown to add more variation and definition. The eyes are painted a sickly yellow, as are the teeth with the inner mouth painted in a deep glossy red. Clayface has 13 points of articulation, and this is certainly scaled back vs a standard figure. This is most likely a necessity due to the body type, but it is also probably another cost control measure. Due to his enormous bulk, the joints are also less than extensive in their movement with relatively little play in the knees and elbows, while the shoulders, wrists and hips are a bit wider-ranging. Clayface should, by way of his enormous feet, stand perfectly well. But you have to factor in the weight of his upper body and relatively slim hips. If he is too far forward when posed he will fall and a shelf dive on a figure of this size and weight will do damage - make sure you have him well balanced. I paid just under £35 for my Clayface figure courtesy of Props & Replicas. And it is quite odd to think I will pay the same price for a 6-inch Star Wars figure in the Hasbro Deluxe format. That is not a fair comparison really when you look at the articulation and paintwork differences, but I think McFarlane have hit on something here in how they get larger characters to market without breaking the bank. Clayface is big and gruesome, as he should be, with loads of different details in the clay body. He is articulated sufficiently for some basic poses and displays brilliantly against the standard 7-inch figure line. I question the inclusion of a stand - and an alternative clay morphed weapon arm might have been nice? There is also an integrity question over the packaging at this scale, and the issue still of having a box that can be opened and resealed, yet have parts glued to the backing card? I doubt this will be the last McFarlane Megafig that makes its way to mine or my son's collection. The 2022 offerings from McFarlane in their fledgling Warhammer 40k line saw the introduction of two more Space Marine Chapters with the arrival of the Dark Angels Assault Intercessor Sergeant and the Raven Guard Veteran Sergeant. It also saw the line move on from the Necrons to the Genestealers with the release of the Tyranid Genestealer. All of the figures come in the usual McFarlane window box with a darker blue outer colour scheme and a contrasting yellow card back. The figures are extremely well strapped into the boxes and the included circular stands are glued onto the backing card within a plastic tray meaning the box will get damaged and can't be reused if you choose to take out the stand. The McFarlane line uses a base model for the Space Marine's with the ability to change and adjust the various armour panels, helmets and chest pieces to vary the figures. The Dark Angel Sergeant features a winged helmet as well as Dark Angel Chapter Badge sculpted in relief on the chest and left shoulder. The armour is a deep green, perhaps a bit to bright for the Dark Angels, with details picked out in single tone paint or decals. There are no washes, weathering or other paint apps on the figures - most likely to keep the costs around the £20 mark. The Dark Angel Sergeant comes armed with a flamer pistol and chainsword. As has been an issue on previous releases, the hands are quite hard to manouver around the grips of the weapons and I would advise in warming these up first to make them a bit easier to use. The Raven Guard Marine has a full black armour design with white chest emblem and helmet and a bit o red trim on the shoulder armour, The black and white are a nice contrast but there is not enough decor elsewhere to give the figure some more depth. The Raven Guard is also an odd choice as a release considering we've seen the more iconic chapters so far (Blood Angels & Ultramarines) and more mainstream choices like the Imperial Fists or the Salamanders may seem a more obvious choice? The Raven Guard is armed with the chain sword and bolter pistol. Both Space Marine figures have the same articulation, and they are quite mobile considering the bulk of the armour. The arms are quite loose, while the chest and leg joints are tight and secure. You will not need the stand to keep your Space Marines upright. The Tyranid Genestealer is perhaps the star of the 2022 standard releases, but it certainly doesn't initially look the part because McFarlane have taken off some of the arms ad packed it side on in the box so they can use the standard window-box. Assembly is tough and you will most likely need to heat up the arms to get them to plug into the body. The Genestealer uses the more modern white paint scheme with blood red joints and physiological detailing around the head, chest, arms and legs. In my day the Genestealers were darker in tone with lots of blacks and purples, but in hand the lighter colour pallet has grown on me. The articulation is insane, with four joints per arms, articulated hips, knees and toes as well as joints in the chest and neck. The figure is top heavy with those four arms and the toe joints can make the figure unstable when posing. You will most likely use the circular stand for display. The McFarlane Warhammer 40k figures retail around the £22-£24 mark, but these 2022 releases have been sold at B&M stores at £12.99 each,, which is a bargain considering the quality of the figures. McFarlane have released this image of a brand new DC Multiverse 7-inch scale Robin figure. Robin will be a Gold Label release and will be exclusive to the McFarlane Toy Store in the US, opening for pre-order on the 7th of February. The third series of McFarlane's 7-inch 'Page Punchers' figures was revealed back in early January, and now the full four figure wave has opened up for pre-order.
