"Just stick close to Chewie and Lando" As Return of the Jedi celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2023, Hasbro released a third set of Black Series anniversary figures from the original trilogy, carded rather than boxed, and using the original Kenner card artwork. The Return of the Jedi Anniversary series was spread over 3 waves, supplemented by further exclusive carded figures as well as a boxed pack of Jabba the Hutt. Lando, in his Skiff Guard disguise, was first released in 2018, followed by an Archive release in 2022, just ahead of this 40th Anniversary Carded release from 2023. His cardback uses the same design and imagery as the original 1983 Kenner ROTJ card, including the tramline border and the use of the original green coloured figure backing panel and name plate. Hasbro has branded these with Kenner on the front rather than using their own logos, with the only new element vs the 1983 cards being the top left 40th Anniversary logo. Around the back of the card and there is a blended approach to the design with elements retained from the Kenner figures of 1983 but with the use of the modern Black Series logo as well as a checklist of the other 40th Anniversary figures, notably the other figures in this 2nd Wave of ROTJ Anniversary figures including the Deluxe Boba Fett, Biker Scout, Endor Han, Endor Leia and Wicket. As was the case back in 1983, the card cannot be opened without some level of damage, so these are aimed more at MOC collectors. Lando is, as we find him during the events of Return of the Jedi, disguised as one of Jabba's Skiff Guards, an outfit that comprises of a simple pair of beige trousers and a ribbed upper tunic. Over this sits a skirt piece in a weathered leather finish, inclusive of a dark brown painted belt with a gun metal ring buckle. We also get a large hammered metal chest piece with corresponding shoulder armour all strapped via black sculpted straps that criss-cross over Lando’s back. The sleeves are a matt black, with the right arm featuring a similarly hammered metal wrist piece, while the legs are concluded with a pair of darker brown boots with painted silver buckles and a black sole.  The headsculpt is a strong likeness to Billy Dee Williams from 1983 with a sculpted moustache and a very serious look for Lando, enhanced by photo-real decor. The hair is kept quite simplistic, but it still has volume and also allows for Lando to wear the Skiff Guard helmet. This softer plastic piece includes a large leather brown dome piece with painted rivets, a black trim above the eyes and around the back, and the mouthguard, which is a complex horned design painted in bone ivory. The faceplate concludes with a gunmetal cage that sits over the mouth. The helmet sits in place, allowing the eyes to sit behind the open part of the helmet to look out.  This is all exactly as was released back in 2018, although you can see some clear paint updates. Most notable is a change in Lando’s skin tone, which for me gives the newer figure and improved likeness to what we see on screen. The armour panels and leather tunic elements also appear brighter, mainly due to a reduction in a weathering wash. This variation is minimal, but evident when the two figures are side by side and again, from a personal perspective, I prefer the older figure's body with its darker tones and more weathered appearance.  vs 2018 Phase 3 Release (right) Lando’s other accessory is a Vibroaxe, another direct carry forward from the 2018 release. The axe is very well detailed across the various components, and the base grey is overlaid with a metallic silver finish around the blade, which does enhance it marginally from the older version. Lando can hold the weapon in either hand or both with sufficient hand grip space down the shaft of the weapon.  Articulation is of an older format, with pinned double-jointed knees an immediately obvious indication. We do have 17 points of articulation in total, and Skiff Guard Lando does benefit from some of the changes coming into play circa 2018, like the dual joint neck and expansive single-jointed elbows that do come closer to bending back on themselves. While there are no butterfly shoulders, the arms do have a good range for using with the weapon or recreating positions like Lando tipping his helmet forward to show Han who he was. There is also no real limitations from Lando’s armour, with the shoulder panels a softer plastic and hinged so they raise up with the arms themselves. The 40th Anniversary release of Lando in Skiff Guard armour obviously made sense in terms of the Return of the Jedi celebration, but it did come perhaps too soon after the Archive release and offered nothing new on that version. It is an improvement on the original 2018 release in terms of facial decor and improved skin tone realism, but I still prefer the darker, more weathered armour and tunic of the original release. The Vibroaxe is one of my favourite accessories in the Star Wars universe, harking back to those original Kenner ROTJ figures armed with it, and the Black Series version does the weapon justice, and Lando’s articulation supports plenty of posing options with it in hand. We are heading into the 3rd week of Haulathon 2025 and NECA have shared the full details of the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle release that is dropping this week in Target US stores and on Friday the 25th of April on Target's website and the international Haulathon site for overseas collectors. The new set, based on the 1980s TMNT cartoo series, is a two pack of Tattoo and Wyrm. Wyrm will include extra eye parts and a clip on tongue as well as a hammer, wrench and alternative hands. Tatoo will come with a hamster accessory and an extra set of hands. The set is packed into the TMNT Cartoon Series window box. Tamashii Nations is in attendance at Star Wars Celebration and have shared some images from their display of S.H. Figuarts Star Wars figures. In the displays are three newly revealed figures - potential future releases, but not yet on the schedule. These include movie figures of an Episode I Anakin Skywalker, an Episode III Jedi Master Mace Windu, an Empire Strikes Back Luke Skywalker, with Yoda, from Dagobah. McFarlane have marked Superman Day 2025 with the full reveal of their DC Multiverse 7 inch figures incoming from the July 2025 Superman movie from James Gunn. We kick off with figures of David Corenswet's Superman, available as a single released and as a specialt Theatrical Release which comes with Krypto the Superdog as well as a soft good scape, extra face plates, and extra hands. Superman is joined by a new figure of Metamorpho and a Megafig release of Kaiju. These are all now live for pre-ordering at stockists with a July 2025 release date. The Star Wars Celebration Japan exclusive Black Series release of The Ronin and R5-D56 is being sold as a Japanese Language packaged set at Celebration Japan. It has also now gone live on Amazon in the US with immediate shipping for a multi-language version for the international market. The set, featuring The Ronin and R5-D56 from Star Wars Visions Season 1, has a US RRP of $69.99 and it looks to be available internationally from the US site with shipping into the UK setting collectors back circa £78 delivered, including taxes. While it was not mentioned during the Hasbro Star Wars Panel at Celebration Japan, a new 'army builder' two-pack from Rogue One featuring a Shore Trooper and Death Trooper has been placed on display at the Hasbro Booth. The Shore Trooper is the standard trooper version while the Death Trooper is the Specialist with added combat gear only released previously in an exclusive three pack in 2016 These have been Hasbro Pulse & Shop Disney Exclusives in the past. “Oh, this is no time for heroics! Come back!” As Return of the Jedi celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2023, Hasbro released a third set of Black Series anniversary figures from the original trilogy, carded rather than boxed, and using the original Kenner card artwork. The Return of the Jedi Anniversary series was spread over 3 waves, supplemented by further exclusive carded figures as well as a boxed pack of Jabba the Hutt. Paploo’s only release so far in the Black Series was as part of the Heroes of Endor  multi-figure set for SDCC in 2020.  This made him a slight anomaly in the Return of the Jedi Anniversary Series, with nearly every other general figure released in the three main waves having already had a single mainline release prior to 2023 or, in the case of the new-sized R2-D2, a subsequent release in standard packaging. Paploo’s cardback uses the same design and imagery as the original 1983 Kenner ROTJ card before he was repacked onto the Power of the Force design. This includes the tramline border and the use of the original yellow coloured figure backing panel and name plate. Hasbro have branded these with Kenner on the front rather than using their own logo’s with the only new element vs the 1983 cards is the top left 40th Anniversary logo. Around the back of the card and there is a blended approach to the design with elements retained from the Kenner figures of 1983 but with the use of the modern Black Series logo as well as a checklist of the other 40th Anniversary figures, notably the other figures in this 2nd Wave of ROTJ Anniversary figures including the Stormtrooper, Bib Fortuna, Chewbacca, and Emperor Palpatine. As it was in 1983, the card cannot be opened without some level of damage, so these are aimed more at MOC collectors. Paploo uses the Black Series Ewok body originally sculpted for Teebo , with a deep-furred texture throughout the main body and the arms and legs. The body is cast in the brown base colour of Paploo’s fur, but there are some paint apps over the top to create some variation in fur shading, although these are subtle. We get additional paintwork around the hands and feet with a lighter brown skin tone and painted finger and toenails. Around the waist of the figure, Paploo is wearing a simple tied belt in a lighter brown soft plastic with a sculpted knife in a sheath - this is not removable vs 2020 'Heroes of Endor' release (right) Over the main body, Paploo is adorned with his Ewok hood, utilising more soft plastic in a beige finish. Sculpted details of feathers and trophies adorn the hood, and each are painted individually with shades of white, grey, orangy-brown, and dark brown. The head sculpt is individual to Paploo and includes an open mouth with sculpted and painted teeth detail. Aside from the same fur decor as the rest of the body, the head also features black gloss painted eyes and detailing around the lips, nose and ears. The hood itself can be removed if you feel the need. This is likely more beneficial for those customising additional Ewoks out of the base figures we currently have access to. Paploo stands about 4 inches tall and is in scale with the human characters based on what we see on screen during the events on Endor. Articulation is 14 points in total, all worked into the furred body detail in a similar fashion to the execution of joints on the Wookiees. The squat body does limit movement, and the stubby arms and legs have a more limited range of motion. The head too is restricted, more so by the hood, while it is the waist that provides more rotation for Paploo when posed. For those that didn’t buy Heroes of Endor, I can also confirm that there is enough movement to get Paploo onto a Black Series Speeder Bike The only accessory is Paploo’s spear, the same one included within Heroes of Endor. This piece is individual to Paploo and features a light brown shaft with a central furred section in darker brown, and a wrapped two-pronged end. These are constructed as three different parts that are then fixed together, which means there is a crisp transition between each section, but also presents a weak spot which can snap if mis-handled (guess what happened to one of mine).  The spear fits into the rudimentary grip on either of Paploo’s three-fingered hands, and there is sufficient movement in the arm joints for some two-handed posing and a handful of dynamic attack stances to face off against the Imperial Stormtroopers.  I personally am a huge fan of Ewoks and am pleased that Paploo gets a wider release in the 40th Anniversary Series, even though a part of me really wanted a Chief Chirpa or Logray. The design and execution of the Ewoks, including Paploo, has been solid by Hasbro with an accurate sculpt matching the onscreen physical costumes supported by appropriate hood and belt adornment and weapon. There is little to criticise with Paploo, who even sports a fairly robust set of joint articulation considering his squat frame.
