- Review: Star Wars Black Series Shaak Ti from Attack of the Clones, Galaxy Collection Fan Channel Wave
"Unity wins war, gentlemen." Heading into Spring 2025, and we had just two female Jedi released in the Star Wars Black Series from the Prequel Trilogy and the associated Clone Wars series, those being a single release of Aayla Secura and a number of Ahsoka Tano releases. That number was doubled in May of 2025 with the arrival of a three-figure Galaxy Collection Fan Channel wave comprising of Luminara Unduli and Shaak Ti, both as seen in Attack of the Clones, alongside a debut figure of Sebulba from The Phantom Menace. Shaak Ti’s packaging features the deep red highlight colour assigned to Attack of the Clones, and used on the headline text elements and on the artwork. The artwork depicts a portrait view of Shaak Ti with her hands pressed together in contemplation ahead of her. As number 08 in the AOTC Galaxy Collection, the side artwork connects directly to Luminara Unduli from the same wave. The artwork is repeated around the back of the box with the background text that talks about Shaak Ti as a ‘wise and patient Jedi Master’ while also detailing her role in the Battle of Geonosis from which this figure is taken, but also her expanded role from the Clone Wars training Clone Cadets. The red-hued backing card for the figure incorporates a background featuring a very similar Geonosis backdrop to that of Luminara Unduli. Shaak Ti and Luminara Unduli share very similar design principles, with Shaak Ti also utilising the original Admiral Holdo legs, albeit with a new boot cut added with a laced-up knee-high boot in black on top of the purple leg pieces. Her upper torso is a simple vest top in burgundy, as are the arms, which are also plain and unadorned in their design. The Torgruta skin tone of salmon red is used to cast the arms, and on the exposed upper chest and neck. Soft goods are applied as an outer robe, using the usual soft ‘Jedi’ cloth and tailoring it to include a faux hood and stitched hem to allow it to hug closer to the body. The skirt, like Unduli’s, is a different material textured with horizontal patterns and in a lighter red tone. The soft goods are kept in check with the use of softer rubber sculpted segments, starting with two long textured checked pattern scarf sections that come around Shaak Ti’s neck and hang on either side of the figure, creating a physical yet unfixed retainer for the outer cloak. Similarly, a belt with a front tabard is used to hold the skirt in place, and like her fellow Jedi Unduli, this is ornately decorated with a soft red and beige pattern on a sandy backdrop. The head sculpt is an excellent likeness to actor Orli Shoshan in full makeup from Attack of the Clones, while also being perfectly acceptable in a Clone Wars display or even as in an off-camera scene from Revenge of the Sith. The face features printed tech to apply the facial markings and make-up with white panels around the realistic eyes and a two tone lip marking. The gold headpiece is sculpted and painted neatly in a gold finish, extending down either side of her head and down the front of her forehead. The Togruta Lekku extend upwards to the two-pronged crown of the head, and down the sides and rear of the head. These transition from the harder plastic head sculpt to softer sections that plug in just below the jaw line. All of the Lekku are then painted with the distinctive dark grey markings against the white base. Shaak Ti features her lightsaber as the sole accessory, and goes one better than Luminara by incorporating a belt hanging function through a plug on the weapon and a socket on her belt. The saber hilt itself is sleek and silver in colour with just a touch of gold decor towards the blade emitter. The hilt will sit in either of Shaak Ti’s hands, both of which are designed to be gripping hands and without any annoying trigger finger inherited from an earlier female figure. The saber hilt is blue translucent plastic, arriving straight and true and connecting neatly into the hilt for posing Shaak Ti with her weapon ignited. Shaak Ti benefits from 21 points of articulation, picking up a couple of extra points through the new bootcut that connects the newer laced boots to the older legs. These older legs also carry with them dual jointed knees, albeit pinned, but tucked away nicely behind the skirts. The lower tabard of the skirt will move with the figure to a degree, so the leg joints can be applied for more dynamic shots as far as the tabard will allow, from a realism perspective. The upper body features a ball-jointed waist and two two-joint neck, top and bottom. The Lekku are flexible enough to not lock the head in a single position, and Shaak Ti can rotate her head to the sides with the Lekku moving with and adjusting over her shoulders as needed. The arms feature a butterfly shoulder, which helps with lightsaber positioning in particular, and two-handed options are achievable and a wider ranging than the usual in front ‘ready for battle’ posing that standard shoulder joints allow. Luminar Unduli was only really let down by the lack of a lightsaber belt option; Shaak Ti has no such issue, going one better than the other Jedi Master in the wave while also not dropping any points on sculpt, decor, or articulation. The sculpt is perfect in terms of on-screen replication, fitting also into the way animated characters are converted to real-world settings, allowing the figure to be posed just as easily with Clone Troopers, and in particular, the Kamino Trooper from 2020. The decor is stunning, particularly the head markings, the Lekku, and that exquisite skirt tabard. Articulation, supported by the right mix of soft goods, is extensive and impressive in terms of the work that has gone into the head and the Lekku, allowing them to move with the figure and not be fixed into position as we’ve seen with similar physiology on figures like Bib Fortuna. Shaak Ti is a triumph! A Black Series figure without any real flaw, and a marker for future figures to aspire to in all aspects. Even in May, I suspect she is already the front runner for figure of the year with little on the horizon at this point to topple her from that spot. She also reflects Hasbro’s ongoing commitment to the Prequel Trilogy and the Jedi in particular, and let’s hope this long continues with many more Jedi Masters still to be realised in the Black Series scale. - Review: Star Wars Black Series Sebulba, The Phantom Menace, Galaxy Collection Fan Channel Wave
“On the front line, the reigning champion, Sebulba from Pixelito. By far the favorite today.” Sebulba, the Dug Pod Racer from Episode 1, was released into the Star Wars Black Series in May 2025 as part of the wider Galaxy Collection for The Phantom Menace. Sebulba was part of a smaller Fan Channel retailer wave of three figures, the other two being Shaak Ti and Luminara Unduli from Attack of the Clones. Sebulba is number 06 in the Phantom Menace series, utilising the established sandy yellow secondary colour on the character and movie names and on the side artwork. This side art, also repeated around the back of the box, connects directly to the Darth Maul release from 2024. The back of the box is split between the repeated artwork, and a small multi-language background of Sebulba, one of the Outer Rim’s most successful Podracers, and his crafty, and sometimes vicious behaviour. The figure itself is set into the inner tray with a colour coordinated sandy yellow backdrop that incorporates an image of Sebulba’s Pod Racer speeding through the Tatooine landscape. As he was on screen, Sebulba in action figure form is an interesting design. It starts with a reasonably standard torso complete with brown leather-like racer's vest with a two-tone horizontal strip design. From this, there are a set of legs that connect into the shoulder socket, as is the Dug anatomy arranged. These legs feature similarly designed multi-toned brown wraps and panels terminating with a pair of splayed four-toed feet which show a flash of Sebulba’s purple skin tone that quickly transitions to pale flesh with sculpted, but unpainted toenails. The arms come out to the lower hip section which is wrapped in a silver skirt piece, almost chainmail in its design. Unlike the ‘legs’, the ‘arms’ are uncovered save for some wraps at the elbows and wrists in brown. The skin tone is clearer to see here, radiating between a mottled purple skin tone at the top of the arms to a very pale flesh tone underneath and out into the extended four fingers. Sebulba’s large head protrudes from the neck of the torso piece with a slightly darker flesh tone than the arms & legs but with similar purple mottled markings across the top, down over the snout, and similarly back and down over the crown of the head and into the neck. The likeness to the CGI Sebulba is good, capturing his deep-set sinister eyes along with the fin like ears, the mouth tendrils and the large dog like mouth and snout. Sebulba is also sporting his braided tendrils behind his eyes with red, green, and purple painted beads. Proportionally, our Sebulba Black Series figure is fairly screen accurate, but is perhaps slightly larger than the CGI character as shown during the movie. Most records have the Dug measuring 1.1m in height. At 4 inches tall, the figure would convert to being around 1.2m in total, about 10% bigger than he perhaps should be. This oversizing may be a conscious decision for production, and doesn’t have too much of a bearing if you are posing Sebulba with his Episode 1 contemporaries such as Anakin or Jar Jar Binks . Sebulba features two accessories, the first being the Gorg carcass that is stolen by Jar Jar and spat out, landing on Sebulba while he relaxes in the Mos Espa marketplace. This is a very limited detail piece, cast in a garish green finish with simple painted eyes and no other detail. The feet of the Gorg are folded over, creating a hook that allows Sebulba to hold it in his right gripping hand. Like a few recent Black Series accessories, the sculpt and finish feel cheap and lacking detail, and almost as though they are from another cheaper line than the Star Wars 6-inch Collector Series. The second accessory is much better, a softer plastic Podracing Helmet, as worn by Sebulba during the Boonta Eve race. It is cast in brown plastic with two large round eye lens featuring clear plastic lenses. Two side cut outs are shaped to go round Sebulba’s ears, meaning the helmet sits naturally on the Dug’s head without looking oversized or clunky. Sebulba has 17 points of articulation despite his unique physiology. These are all pinless and all relatively simple single joints, considering the slimmer nature of the Dug’s arms and legs. The splayed feet present a reasonable platform for posing Sebulba standing, but balance is key here, particularly if you extend the arms out too much or lean him forward or backward. The feet do include a peg hole, so an aftermarket pegged stand will stabilise him if needed. The arms are relatively wide-ranging and can be very expressive, able to rub together as though scheming to win a race, or holding his head, or adjusting his Podracing helmet. The head has two jointed sections at the base and top of the neck, while there is a waist joint tucked in behind the skirt piece, adding a touch more central movement in the main body. Sebulba is another impressive execution of an alien species within the Black Series, perhaps the most interesting to date, considering the physiology with engineering around the reversed arms and legs position that still allows the figure to stand and express itself fully for display, either alone or facing off against Anakin or Jar Jar. The flight helmet is glorious and exactly what should have been included with the Anakin Skywalker Episode 1 release. The main negative of the set is the Gorg, which is ugly and lacking in detail and feels very out of place. The release may have actually been better perceived if it was left out altogether. Considering Sebulba’s relatively limited interaction with the main Star Wars Universe it is great to see Hasbro supporting these background and tertiary characters in the 6-inch line, providing the hope that nothing is off the table - although I suspect this is the last Podracer we will see so don’t go getting your hopes up for a Ben Quadinaros release. - McFarlane Superman (2025) movie Red Platinum releases of Mister Terrific, Superman Robot, and Gold Label Battle Damage Ultraman
Images have circulated online through Amazon and online retailer CMD Store of two new McFarlane DC Red Platinum releases for the 2025 Superman movie. These include the Superman Robot and Mister Terrific, both figures previewed a few weeks ago, but at that time, these were not specifically confirmed as 'Chase' Red Platinum releases. We await full details if this is indeed the case or if these are extra releases that differ from the mainline release sufficiently so as not to fall under the Platinum Edition variations chase banner (yes, it is all getting a bit confusing now). CMD Store also has a packaged image of the Gold Label Battle Damage Ultraman as previewed earlier this week on the McFarlane Show . This one is a Walmart Exclusive. We've added all of these to our McFarlane Collector Database To manage our storage costs, news article images are archived after 12-months. - McFarlane DC Collector Edition Red Platinum releases of Red Lantern Guy Gardner, & Justice Society of America Mister Terrific
EB Games in Canada have given us a full look at two new McFarlane DC Collector Edition Platinum Red Edition figures. These are a new ' Red Lantern' release of Guy Gardner and a Justice Society of America release of Mister Terrific . Red Platinum figures are a newer format for McFarlane and are not exclusive as such but very limited, almost Chase releases of specific characters as opposed to the Platinum Edition variations on an existing character. Guy Gardner 'Red Lantern' comes with three face plates, alternative hands, a red lantern, and the usual display base and collector card. Mister Terrific also includes three face plates, a trio of effect pieces, and the stand and card. At this point there is no firm release date listed for either, so it is expected to be June or July. We've added both figures to our extensive McFarlane Collector Database Guy took Atrocitus’ Red Lantern™ ring and joined a new corps, where he could channel his anger. He later returned to life as a Green Lantern™. The pre-Flashpoint Michael Holt lost his wife in an accident and was visited by the Spectre, who told him about the Golden Age Mister Terrific (Terry Sloane). This inspired Holt to become a Super Hero and continue the Mister Terrific legacy. He became the chairman of the Justice Society of America and developed a friendly rivalry with Batman. In an ironic twist, the post-Flashpoint Michael Holt was captured by Earth-2’s Mister Terrific, Terry Sloan, when he was stranded in that reality. As we expected, Superman is becoming a significant theme for McFarlane's Summer 2025 releases. The latest preview is this new Superman 7-inch figure based on The New 52. This is a Gold Label release exclusive to Target Stores in the US and 'arriving soon'. Outside of the United States, the figure should have availability to McFarlane stockists via local distributors with a listing already live on Amazon Canada. This new Superman has been added to our extensive McFarlane Collector Database After the continuity-altering event known as Flashpoint, the Superman that was reborn into the main universe, Earth-0, was younger than the previous incarnation and had a different personal history, as well as only a casual friendship with Lois Lane. Interference from the near-omnipotent being Doctor Manhattan had split Superman’s continuity in two, with the other half living in the shadows with his wife Lois and their son Jon Kent. During a battle with the 5th-dimensional imp called Mr. Mxyzptlk, Superman managed to merge his personal histories into one streamlined timeline, his past and life becoming one with that of the so-called “New 52” Superman.
