Hiya Toys has unveiled their new Exquisite Basic release of Monster X from Godzilla: Final Wars (2004). The 8-inch-tall, fully articulated figure will include an alternative pair of hands. It is due for release in the 4th Quarter of 2026 in all territories apart from Japan. Directed by Kitamura Ryuhei, the director of Azumi, this is the 28th work in the Godzilla series. Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) tells the story of a three-way battle between superhumans with special abilities, the alien Xiliens from outer space, and Godzilla. The story takes place in the year 20XX. Due to frequent wars and the backlash of rapid scientific development, humanity has awakened numerous gigantic monsters. As the Earth Defense Force, composed of superhumans (mutants), fights against these creatures, the Xiliens descend from space. "It's not wise to upset a Wookiee.” Chewbacca’s first Star Wars Black Series release was back in 2014 as the line was in its relative infancy. Chewie was originally planned for the Orange Phase 1 packaging, but had to be held back for the Phase 2 Blue phase so his height could be displayed naturally in the box. Since then, every iteration of Chewbacca has been based on this original 2014 model, including those for the Sequel movies and for the Solo standalone movie. A New Hope Chewie has had a couple of releases since 2014, with a 2017 Anniversary release on Kenner inspired cardback, and then again in 2020 on an Archive series card. In 2025, it was announced that Chewbacca would be another original character getting a full new figure in the Galaxy Collection. Chewbacca was released in Wave 22 of the Galaxy Collection, alongside Han Solo  from A New Hope. Other figures in the wave included Ezra Bridger  and a Death Trooper  from Ahsoka, and a Gaming Greats release of Nightsister Merrin  from Jedi: Survivor. The A New Hope figures feature a deep orange headline colour against the black of the standard box. This orange is used on key text elements and the side artwork, which shows Chewie wielding his bowcaster. Chewbacca is number 11 in the series, connecting his artwork to that of Han Solo at number 10. This creates a neat run of Leia, Luke, Han, and Chewie in the collection for those putting together a collection of the side artwork.  The rear text doesn’t really reference Chewbacca’s role in the Rebellion or his relationship with Han, simply talking about him as a Legendary Wookiee Warrior. Chewie is set against a deep orange cardback that features an embedded image of the Millennium Falcon cockpit. This is the alternative co-pilot view, whereas the Han Solo figure had the pilot perspective.  In hand, it is immediately evident that while visually this looks similar to the original 2014 Chewbacca sculpt, this new version is a completely new figure, improving on both the looks and the proportions. The principles of design remain the same, with Chewie sculpted with a furred texture that then overlaps at the joints, hiding much of the articulation without heavily impeding it. The fur is cast in brown, and sections are then darkened with a deeper brown. This is predominantly done around the shoulders, the top of the chest, the top of the arms, and the top of the legs. The only exposed ‘skin’ is that of Chewbacca’s hands and feet, both picked out in a grey finish. Chewie’s bandoleer is a cast piece in a softer brown plastic, painted with silver compartments, straps, and fastenings.  Chewbacca’s head sculpt is more aligned to that of the costume from 1977 and takes away the open mouth Wookiee roaring sculpt of the older figure. This more neutral expression Chewie, is much more aligned to how we see him in the movie, with a wiser, more inquisitive look to him that relays his intelligence and not just his brute strength. The head is executed in the same way as the body, with sculpted fur and an overlapping neck section that sits over the top of the torso. The lips are parted slightly, showing a pink gum and white teeth beyond, with the mouth and eyes then picked out in further colour - possibly even printed tech to add some realism.  When you line up the new and old Chewie’s the differences are stark. The older figure was always criticised for being too tall, where as this new 2025 version is about half a head shorte, making Chewie more aligned and better proportioned when stood with Han or the others characters. Gone also is the wide stance of the original, with Chewbacca now able to be posed in a fully upright stance as played by Peter Mayhew in costume. The head, as mentioned, looses the angry snarl and is more accurate to Chewie and fits better into posed scenes. And the colouring is improved, and while similar to the 2014 and subsequent releases, this new figure looks more accurate to the on screen Wookiee costume.  vs 2014 release (right) The sole accessory is Chewbacca’s Bowcaster, a weapon that has been the bane of many collectors over the years with its two part construction and inability to stay connected. I am pleased to say that Hasbro have given us a full new weapon, but I am then saddened to report it is still supplied in two parts and the new connection is not significantly improved, with the Bowcaster remaining temperamental. The weapon now comes with its shoulder strap in a brown, flexible plastic finish. This allows the weapon to be shoulder slung when not in use. When you want to have Chewie wield the weapon, it will fit into either hand, although this takes a bit of maneuvering around the overlapping fur and around the rear stock of the weapon. Once in place, it holds well enough, apart from the forward bow piece, which will ping off at regular intervals at even the slightest knock. I can see many collectors gluing this into place.  The new Chewbacca has 17 points of pinless articulation, which is only one more than the original, but the 2025 version has some substantial upgrades. The first is in the addition of butterfly shoulders that are tucked behind the central sleeve of the chest, this expands the arm movement laterally, allowing the hands to be brought more together and therefore enabling some two handed Bowcaster positions. The head too is enhanced with the head set on a peg that is jointed top and bottom. A gap under the head sculpt allows the entire head piece to move around the gap section and gives a wider range of motion and expression than the original head, which was pretty much immobile.  The legs have lost the thigh swivel, and rotation is added at the knees to compensate. This, therefore, means the unsightly thigh gap is no longer an issue, while Chewbacca retains full leg movement, including walking and running poses. While the knees can bend beyond 90 degrees, the overhang of the torso fur does impede the hip joints, so Chewbacca can’t quite kneel, and will take a bit of tweaking to sit down for anyone who wants to try a scene in a Falcon cockpit mock-up or playing Dejarik Like the corresponding Han Solo from Wave 22, the new Chewbacca is a significant improvement for our collections. Chewie is now better proportioned alongside the other key characters of A New Hope, while also improved on the overall aesthetics and the articulation. For me, it is this articulation that makes the biggest difference, with the figure now able to be posed to mimic Mayhew’s performance. The Bowcaster is upgraded with the strap, which works well, but is let down by the ongoing engineering where the bow connects to the main weapon.  We now have five of the main six characters from A New Hope revisited and released, and Chewie looks particularly impressive lined up with Han or indeed alongside Luke, Leia and R2-D2. "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid" Han Solo, as seen in A New Hope, was one of the earliest Star Wars Black Series releases, released in 2013 as part of Wave 2 of the fledgling 6-inch series line. The figure would remain the definitive version of Han with a re-release in 2017 on a Kenner-inspired cardback, and a further tweak in 2021 with facial print tech applied to the old sculpt as part of the Power of the Force 2 celebratory wave. Some 12 years after the original figure, Hasbro have now returned to Han’s first appearance in the saga and done a full new update to our favourite smuggler.  The new Han Solo is part of Wave 22 of the Galaxy Collection, a wave that also featured his faithful Wookiee co-pilot Chewbacca, who has also been sculpted as a brand new figure. The wave also included both Ezra Bridger  and a Death Trooper  from Ahsoka, and was rounded out by a Gaming Greats release of Nightsister Merrin  from Jedi: Survivor. Han is packed into A New Hope themed box using a deep orange accent colour across the main text elements and the side art. He is number 10 in the Galaxy Collection for A New Hope, connecting into the 2024 updates of Princess Leia  (08) and Luke Skywalker  (09), which now creates a nice block within the wider side montage of the foursome.  The back of Han’s box positions him as the Captain of the Millennium Falcon, and how he comes to believe in the cause of the Rebellion and joins both Leia and Luke in the fight against the Empire. Han is packed in an inner tray and against a coloured card back that uses the same deep orange colour as the main artwork, within this is an embedded image of the Millennium Falcon cockpit.  Han is as seen through the majority of A New Hope, wearing his scruffy off-white open collar vest over which sits his black jacket, which, on the figure, is cast as an individual rubbery plastic piece, as it was in 2013. The trousers, cast in blue, feature the red Correllion bloodstripe down each side and tuck into a pair of gloss black boots. A simple black belt is sculpted at the top of the trousers, painted with a silver buckle, and over this sits Han’s larger gunslinger belt. Like the jacket, this is an individual, softer plastic piece that is fastened around Han’s waist and also around his right thigh. The brown plastic of the belt is accentuated with a bright silver buckle and silver rivets, with further components around the belt picked out in black and silver.  Harrison Ford is a difficult likeness to capture, particularly when Hasbro are working off original film footage and not direct scans of the actor as he was in 1977. To that end, and like Mark Hamill, the Black Series releases of Han have been hit and miss to date, with the Bespin and Endor releases being the top picks to date for Empire and Return of the Jedi, respectively. This new 2025 Han provides a 1977 A New Hope Han Sculpt that is on par with these later likenesses, if not surpasses them in terms of how much like a younger Harrison Ford they have got.  The face is rounder than the original ANH sculpt, giving it a more youthful look, and it is perfectly printed using the facial print tech to add the additional realism that is now standard to the Black Series figures. The hair too is a good match to A New Hope, with plenty of depth to the sculpt and a paint app that uses two tones of brown to enhance the realism further.  vs the 2021 POTF2 re-release of the original 2013 Han Solo (right) There is no re-use from the 2014 model  at all, even the vest and gunslinger belts, which look very similar to the originals, have been resculpted and recast. While the older release was impressive at the time and when a 6-inch line was a novelty, comparing the new and old figures side by side shows the strides forward the line has made and the improvements on this newest figure. These include a more realistic build for Solo, where the older figure was a bit too gangly. Han has a single accessory, his DL-44 Heavy Blaster. This is slightly smaller than the original, but with the same level of detail worked into the texture of the grip, the body of the weapon, and the upper sights. Sadly, it does lack any paint apps. And considering the older figure did manage a painted brown grip, silver barrel, and gunmetal finish, this feels like a step backward. While Han is shown as right handed, we have been given trigger finger hands on both left and right, allowing Han to shoot ambidexterously. When not in use, the blaster can be holstered and secured in place with the flexible strap that comes over the grip and connects into a socket to create a seal.  It is also worth noting here as well that the original release also came with a Stormtrooper utility belt and blaster to recreate the scenes on the Death Star. While I am sure these parts will still work from the original release, Hasbro has now glued the gunslinger belt in place and made the thigh strap tighter so the ability to swap these out easily is gone.  Han has 17 points of articulation, all of which are pinless. He includes the new leg configuration with the thigh swivel removed, and rotation added at the knees. That means the legs work on just three joints each, not four, but with no immediate lack of movement and removing that issue a lot of figures had with variant paint tones from upper thigh to lower thigh. Han can kneel, and sit, and is fully stable on his ratcheted ankles - although these are less robust than some we’ve seen recently. The upper body has no torso joint and relies instead on a ball joint at the waist. This means we lose ab-crunch posing, but again, we gain aesthetically with no visible cut in the torso. The arms include butterfly shoulders tucked away under the outer jacket, giving Han a full range of arm motion to gesture or wield his blaster. The head is dual-jointed at the neck base and where it connects to the head. Again, this removes the need for a central visible joint, while also allowing the neck to be cast in the same flesh colour as the head. It also has a wider range of motion, particularly able to mimic Ford’s iconic smug look with his head cocked to the side.  Wave 22 as a whole is pretty much one of the strongest waves to date in the Galaxy Collection, and Han Solo is a large part of this with a very impressive re-working of the character using the more modern engineering, articulation and decor we are now used to. The release is not quite perfect, but it comes close, being let down solely by a lack of decor on the blaster.  The step forward compared to the original release is significant, giving us a definitive A New Hope Solo to sit alongside a new Chewie - and the two together are amazing. It also means Han and Chewie can now team up with the 2024 releases of Luke, Leia and R2-D2. We are now just waiting on poor Threepio to have his modern upgrade. A pair of new Star Wars Black Series Holiday Edition figures for Christmas 2025 have now been officially announced by Hasbro after an early leak courtesy of a Walmart US listing. The new figures include a Holiday Edition Stormtrooper with Reindeer decor including a pair of Reindeer antlers, red nose, and ribbon around his neck. The Stormtrooper comes with a blaster and two Porgs, one blue and one white. The second release is a Holiday Edition Astromech Santa Claus, using the newer R2-D2 body and including the rocket boosters as seen on the recent Revenge of the Sith release. The Holiday Astromech will also come with a pair of tools - one being a candy cane - and a hat featuring Santa's beard. The set also includes Grogu in a red and white Santa outfit. McFarlane are set to release another Batmobile in their DC Multiverse line, The DC Rebirth version measures 23 inches long and includes a button activated opening canopy to access the cockpit. To give your Batmobile a driver, McFarlane are also releasing a new DC Rebirth Batman complete with unmasked Bruce Wayne head, alternative hands, batarang, grapple launcher, and a soft goods cape ensuring it fits snugly into the Batmobile cockpit. At Fan Expo in Toronto on the 23rd of August, Hasbro held a short combined panel with reveals for both Marvel Legends and Star Wars.  In the Marvel Legends section, there was a look at the Wolverine roleplay mask and the Maximum Series Deadpool. The new reveals included a Retro Carded Mysterio from the 1990s animated series. Includes removable helmet. “Dathomir will always be my home, but it does not need to define me.” The Nightsister Merrin joined the Star Wars Galaxy in 2019 as a character in the Jedi: Fallen Order video game. She returned in 2023 in its sequel, Jedi: Survivor, and on the back of this, it was announced in 2025 that she would make her action figure debut in the Star Wars Black Series.  Merrin arrived in August 2025, released under the Gaming Greats sub-line but within Wave 22 of the Galaxy Collection alongside the Night Trooper  and Ezra Bridger  from Ahsoka, and the new Han & Chewbacca from A New Hope. As a Gaming Greats release, Merrin is packed in the usual packaging with the foil Gaming Greats hexagon sticker applied to the bottom right corner of the box window. The GG figures use a sky blue accent colour, applied to the key text, artwork, and the number. Merrin is number 28 in the Galaxy Collection Gaming Greats series, with her artwork connecting to Dagan Gera  from the same game. The back of the box carries a repeat of the side artwork, overlaid with the EA Games Jedi: Survivor logo, the only section of the franchise to have its logo printed directly onto the Black Series boxes. The short text overview covers Merrin’s life on Dathomir and her new journey with the crew of The Mantis, as seen in the storyline of both Jedi games to date. The cardbacking of the figure uses the same skyblue colouring and within this is a background that appears to be that of the wastelands of Jedha, the area in which Merrin spends much of the second game.  Nightsister Merrin is based on the outfit she has adopted for Jedi: Survivor, an ensemble that incorporates some elements of her Nightsister origins with a high-necked red inner robe with glossy leather chest piece and orange gold necklace. Over this, Merrin is now weraring a short black hooded jacket with the hood folded back behind her head, and the sleeves cut off at the elbow and with her lower arms wrapped in grey and black straps that finish wrapped partially around her pale hands. The inner tunic is wrapped in a two strap belt in brown with a silver buckle and with a gold charm hanging offset at the front, and a knife holster secured around the back. The outfit is finished with a pair of simple grey trousers with sculpted padded knees, and a pair of knee-high brown boots that also incorporate some sculpted scrollwork on the front and ridged panels around the side.  The head sculpt is a spectacular likeness to Merrin as seen in the Jedi games, played by actor Tina Ivlev. Her pale grey skin is replicated perfectly, as are her facial tattoos in gold. These are likely part of the overall facial print that also recreates her dark and intense eyes and adds darker colouring to her lips. The hair piece, cast separate to the head, os a darker grey and includes a fringe that hangs over her right eye, casting small shadows as it would in a real world setting. The back of the hair is cropped short and kicks out at the back sitting within the folded back hood with the shape of the hood executed in a way to both house the back of the hair, but with enough room to allow the head full movement to the sides.  Merrin’s first accessory is a small knife that fits into the holster on the back of her belt. This knife is relatively simplistic in its detail and includes a silver blade and brown grip. The grip is quote slim, fitting in either of Merrin’s hand but without a securing grip so be mindful of it slipping or falling out of the hands.  The larger weapon is technically the same knife, but imbued with Dathomir magic and turned into a staff/spear. The same blade shape is found at one end in silver, while the shaft is now a mix of plain brown wood and ridged black grip sections. It fits into either hand, with a slightly more secure grip, and with two-handed options easily accessible through the articulation. The third accessory is an effect piece reflecting the Dathomir Nightsister Magic. It is a green translucent cast circular disk with a stream of magic coming out of the centre as though being directed at an enemy. Around the back section of the disk is a shaped hole that corresponds with the shape of Merrin’s left hand. This means the hand sits inside the effect piece when engaged, allowing the green magic to enclose the hand in the same way we see it work in-game.  Merrin has 17 points of articulation, with the newer format legs now without a thigh swivel that enhances the overall aesthetics. Rotation in the legs is now achieved via the knees, and stability is provided through a robust set of ratcheted ankle rockers. Upper joints include a torso joint that allows a minimal ab-crunch to support fighting stances with the staff. The arms feature butterfly shoulders, single but extensive elbow joints that bend back on themselves, and pivot wrists. The head is a twin joint, with joints at the neck base and where it meets the head. Again, this removes the need for a visible joint while providing Merrin with a good range of motion, supported by that groove in the hood, giving the hair room to move. Merrin is a joy to pose, with plenty of dynamic options, but also plenty of poses that reflect her character and mannerisms in the game. She looks brilliant, with an exceptional likeness and recreation of a video game character. Accessories are great, with two very usable weapons and an effect piece that does a job if you like that sort of FX piece within your displays.  There is nothing much at all to fault with this figure, and it is already a strong contender for one of my favourite releases of the year. It also expands the Jedi videogame collection even further beyond Cal and generic enemies, joining Dagan Gera, Turgle and Stoova Stev in your displays. I also hope the wider collecting community feel the same way, and perhaps gives Hasbro inspiration for a future Merrin release in her original Nightsister robes - perhaps also then creating parts that could be used for the Great Mothers from Ahsoka. "The Force is my ally, that's all I need." Ezra Bridger’s outings in the Star Wars Black Series to date have been very much aligned to his appearances in Star Wars Rebels. The 2019 release  (re-released in 2020) was Ezra as we met him in Season 1 and 2 of Rebels, while the 2023 Ezra  - released under the Ahsoka label - was the last we saw of him at the end of Season 4. We now have the iteration of Ezra Bridger to add to our Black Series collection, based on his first live-action appearance in Ahsoka Season 1 and specifically his appearance on Peridea after his years stranded on the planet.  Ezra was released in August 2025 and was part of Wave 22 of the Galaxy Collection, a wave that also features the Night Trooper  from Ahsoka, Merrin from Jedi: Survivor, and the new versions of Han and Chewie from A New Hope. The new Ezra is branded under the Ahsoka Galaxy Collection and uses the blue/green highlight colour on the key text and the side artwork. He is number 18 in the collection, with the side art connecting directly to the Night Trooper from the same wave. The rear of the box repeats the artwork with text that sets the scene for this version of Ezra and his exile on Peridea. The same blue is used on the cardback for the figure, with a backdrop image of the ruins on Peridea where Grand Admiral Thrawn has moored the Chimaera and made his base.  Ezra is entirely new, replicating his Peridea Exile outfit really nicely. This starts with an inner Jedi-esque beige tunic with the top of a silver, chainmail-style armoured vest, visible around the neckline. The trousers are plain brown with a pair of complex wrapped shin pads and a pair of boots that use a lighter brown over the base leg colour to highlight the change in texture and finish.  Over this, but sculpted as part of the rubberised jacket and skirt, is a deep red outer robe. This is fastened at the centre with a brown sash belt, and a more traditional lighter brown belt with offset pouches. The outfit is finished with a separate braided rope piece in two tones of brown slung across Ezra’s chest, and with a complex braided shoulder panel on the left shoulder. This is cast in more brown, but includes lighter orange, grey, and blue tones in the design. If there is one minor criticism of the costume, it is the usual one for Black Series and a lack of weathering, which would add that final layer of realism to what we see on screen. The headsculpt is fantastic and a spot-on likeness to actor Eman Esfandi as seen in season 1 of Ahsoka with his beard and longer, unkempt hair. Facial printing provides a very crisp pair of blue piercing eyes, and also replicates the twin scar on Ezra’s cheek as inflicted by the Grand Inquisitor. Ezra comes with his lightsaber, the new one he builds with Huyang, before heading off to face Thrawn and his troops. This is a grey plastic hilt, and a slightly cheap-looking grey too sadly. Over this is both black and gold detailing, picking out the main grip of the hilt and the twin lines just under the guard for the emitter. A loop is built into the cast hilt, allowing the saber hilt to be slung on a corresponding hook on the left hand side of Ezra’s belt. While this initially feels like a backward step compared to using plug-in sabers without an unsightly loop on the weapon, the hook and loop does allow the saber to hang naturally on Ezra’s belt and remain relatively secure.  A blue translucent saber blade clips into the hilt for a lit saber effect. The connection is tight and the peg on the blade robust so not to be at risk of any damage. The saber fits into either of Ezra’s hands, with the left being the more natural fit with Ezra being left-handed, but also because the right hand comes with a pronounced trigger finger for a blaster. There are no additional hand options, which is a miss considering Ezra does a lot of fighting in Ahsoka Season 1 just utilising The Force. Stay tuned at the end of our review for a Figure Hack for a solution. Bridger has 19 points of pinless articulation. This includes butterfly shoulders to help with two-handed light saber grips, although the shape of the sleeves and the more limited elbow movement does limit a bit of the arm movement. I love the range of the torso and the twin joint neck, making Ezra quite emotive with his head movements in particular. While the legs are behind a soft goods skirt that extends to the knees, and beyond around the back, the legs have a full set of joints, including a thigh swivel, which we had thought was being phased out. With rotation at the thigh and knees, and a split in the lower robes, Ezra’s lower leg movement is reasonably extensive and supported by a solid pair of ankle rockers to keep him stable. I note at this point that while Ezra has peg holes on both feet, these are at the toe end and not the heel end, which is unusual.  Ezra Bridger (Peridea) is another impressive Black Series release with Hasbro on a good run at the moment, and within Wave 22 in particular. The on-screen look is replicated well at a 6-inch scale, minus any weathering, including a very well executed likeness. The saber as the sole accessory was the right one to include, but the figure and context of some of his Peridea scenes were crying out for an alternative set of Force gesture hands. A fine addition to the Ahsoka collection and the Black Series overall, with scope (as we will see in a moment) for another figure to utilise that excellent head sculpt. Figure Hack 1 One of my first thoughts when the Ezra Bridger (Peridea) figure was announced was around the potential to use the bearded head sculpt on the Night Trooper Stormtrooper figure to replicate those final scenes from Ahsoka when Ezra returns to the New Republic and is reunited with Chopper and Hera.  I can confirm that the Ezra head and the Night Trooper head are directly compatible, almost as though Hasbro engineered it that way with a potential future release in mind. I would use some mild heat to warm up both pieces first as the ball joint is a tight fit into each head.  If you want to go one stage further and give Ezra a removable Stormtrooper helmet, then the original Luke/Han Stormtrooper disguise figures from 2015 provide a helmet that Ezra can actually wear, even with his unkept hair. It is perhaps a tad oversized, and there is a minor colour variation when you pair these up, but it does allow the pose of Ezra removing his disguise and revealing himself to Hera.  This seems such a no-brainer that I would expect Hasbro to have this in the works for release in the relatively near future, potentially an exclusive? Figure Hack 2 The lack of Force Hands is the main issue with the Ezra Bridger figure, considering that fight in the Noti encampment with the Night Troopers, where he leaves Sabine with his saber and simply uses The Force.  While there will be aftermarket solutions via the 3D printing scene, I can confirm that the hands from the Marvel Legends Ms. Marvel from The Marvels comes with a pair of outstretched gesturing hands that fit the Ezra Bridger perfectly. With the Legends figures slightly larger than the Black Series in terms of scale, the hands of Ms. Marvel are exactly the right size for Ezra. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licenses - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who, and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK-focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves.
