- Spider-Man Homecoming Marvel Legends, packaged images (beware spoilers)
The following images have been circulated via a source in the Far East, and it confirms the packaging design and layout for Hasbro's Marvel Legend Spider-Man wave.
- Marvel Legends at TK Maxx / Home Sense stores
TK Maxx, and sister brand Home Sense, are currently receiving stocks of Marvel Legends. This is the Thanos BAF wave. This is a one off into stores, as is any allocation of stock into TK Maxx, and stores will get only a few figures each. They are selling them at £9.99 each.
- NECA confirm Newborn Alien for Aliens Series 12 and the theme for Series 13
It has been known for a while that the 12th Series of NECA's Alien range will be themed around the 4th movie in the sequence, Alien Resurrection. Our first tease for Series 12 was this image, which indicates that the Ripley Clone will be the first figure in the wave. Randy Falk (NECA) has now tweeted in response to a fan question that the controversial Newborn Alien will also be part of Series 12. The fourth figure, assuming NECA follow suit, is that a standard Xeno will take slot 3. NECA have also confirmed that Series 13 of Aliens will be Kenner themed. Both Series 12 and 13 will fall into at least the 2nd half of 2017. In the gap between Series 11 and Series 12, NECA will be marketing the Alien : Covenant figures. Our 2017 Aliens checklist page has been prepared with this information, more info and images as we get them.
- Riot Control Stormtrooper, Disney Elite Series
These images are being circulated on line detailing three new (well tweaked) Disney Elite figure which have been found in Disney Store London and Disney Store Trafford, Manchester The Riot Stormtrooper obviously uses the existing First Order sculpt and is then packed with new accessories in terms of the baton and shield. The First Order Stormtrooper Commander is the same as the Officer, but now with white Pauldron. Finn has been packed in with a lightsaber - most likely so he can be displayed with the Riot Trooper in that "Traitor" scene. The packaging has also been updated with a new Disney store logo top left and a revision to the bottom cut out of the window and the name plate of the character. The red theme for Force Awakens figures has been retained. Nothing as yet on either UK or US website. Source : Steve, Disney Store Elite Group (Facebook)
- How close did we get with our end of year predictions?
So Toy Fair is over for 2017 and the new toys are revealed, at least until San Diego in July. For those who read our Sat-TOY-Day newsletter, and particularly our end of year review, you may remember some predictions we made for new figures in 2017. Some were educated guesses, others were more wishful thinking. So after the first big reveals of 2017, how many have we got right? The image above was pretty much were characters we expected to see in 2017. Our first hit was the Episdose 7 Luke Skywalker who has been confirmed by Hasbro for 2017, although not as yet pictured. This was a no-brainer to be fair. Daredevil from Netflix was a prediction for the Hasbro Legends 6" range - it was beyond my wildest imagination to see him in my favoured Select 7" scale or indeed via Mezco in the One:12 Collection. For Select we did predict Spider-Man from Homecoming, but that was pretty much confirmed a few days later and at Toy Fair we finally got a glimpse of what a 7" Select Spidey will look like (who's buying two so one can go in your Civil War line up?) And we pretty much hit the nail on the head with our Ghostbusters Select predictions even picking the very character in our image who would appear at Toy Fair to showcase what is coming. In terms of misses there was no NECA Quarter Scale Ant-Man and no Dillon in the NECA Predator 30th Anniversary series. I think both of these are pretty much dead in the water now. I still hold out hope for the Tarkin figure in the Black Series, whether it will happen in 2017 is yet to be seen. I am also pretty certain we will be seeing some impressive Thor & Hulk figures at SDCC 2017, we will see how close we got to those predictions in July.
- Review : Victor Zsasz, Gotham Select (Series 3, Diamond Select)
Review : Victor Zsasz Gotham Select (Diamond Select Toys) Wave/Series : Series 3 Released : November 2016 £19.99 - £22.99 While not one of the major bad guys in the Gotham story to date, Victor Zsasz is a memorable reoccurring character who now has his own 7" Diamond Select figure. Victor comes in the Select blister pack, complete with impressive spine art of Anthony Carrigan who portrays Victor on screen. The Gotham art is darker and grimier than a lot of other Select ranges, but still stands out with the large Gotham bronze logo's and the backdrop made up of Gotham city lit up at night. Round the back of the card is a full image of the figure you are about to open and to the side of this in white text is some background information for Victor and where he fits into the Gotham universe. Under this white text are images of the other two figures in this three figure series - Bruce Wayne and Barbara Kean. Once open you will find Victor strapped into a perspex tray and to the left and to the side of Victor's head are a couple of hand options and two hand guns. To the left of the legs is a very undersized "dumpster" and slipped behind the tray is a grey brick work alley in two parts. Lets look at Victor first who stands 7" high. The head sculpt does a pretty good job of representing Carrigan while not capturing his unique look completely. As we've seen more recently with Diamond there is a big improvement on the head sculpt and the paint job on top of this, with varying skin shades around the eyes and cheeks. The eyes are neat, but perhaps do not stand out enough - a strong feature of the actor. Victor is a slim and gaunt figure and is dressed in a plain black suit. The jacket is a rubber cast on top of a dark blue shirt. There is no paint applications on either, but plenty of sculptural elements like buttons and creases. The legs are a little bow-legged and very slim. Victor is of course wearing tight skinny trousers, and even while tight the sculptors have still include the creases and folds particularly around the hem where they gather over his boots. The boots themselves are big and blocky and are even cast with a textured sculpted sole. He carries two peg holes, one in each foot, which if needed allows Victor to be popped onto a stand like a Protech or NECA stand. Victor comes with two shooting hands which will hold the pistols he comes packed with. There is a second set of wider gripping hands and a third set of punching hands. These slot in and out really easily, and are also nicely sculpted with veins and tendon detail on the back of the hands. There are even rings sculpted and painted on the left hands of the fist and expanded grip - but weirdly not on the gun firing set? The two guns are cast in a bright silver, and are identical. The grip is painted in a matt black. They will fit into either of the gripping hands, with the right one having the ability for the trigger finger to sit in the trigger. Articulation is 16 points starting with a ball joined head. This is the first Diamond figure I've had that feels like the head is ratcheted, so it feels a lot tighter to turn and click satisfactorily each time you turn to left, right or upward. There are then ball jointed shoulders, but despite the thin limbs of Victor these stick out too much for my liking. You can't get his arms down to his side, instead they are left in a wierd half in half out position. The shoulders do still allow the arms to be raised into a 90 degree shooting pose or rotated above his head. Following this is the rotating elbow which bends to 90 degrees and finally the hands are on pegs with a pivot. There is a torso joint that is really well disguised under the coat and on the shirt. This allows the top half of the figure to twist to either side by a few cm's and also allows some lean forward. Leg articulation starts with the t-joint hip that Diamond use on most Select figures. This allows the leg to rotate out and also swing to either side. While the coat tails blocks a bit of this, the movement is enough to kneel the figure if you wished to sit him down. There are thigh swivel joints which can help with standing the figure but like usual spoil the lines of the legs. The knees are double jointed and the figure ends with ankle rockers. If you have sense of Déjà vu with the diorama packed with Victor Zsasz it's because its the same dumpster that dates back to the first Marvel Movie Select - The Origins Wolverine in 2009. It was also in promo images for the series 2 Harvey Bullock but never materialised in his diorama. This dumpster is sadly undersized and looks a bit off. The base section fares a little better. It is supplied in two parts which slot together. The base is a pavement with two drainage grids, while the back wall is grey brickwork with some external plumbing down the centre. Despite being a diorama base for the figure, it doesn't have any pegs for the figure. Nor does it stand high enough as a backdrop only reaching Victor's chest. Victor Zsasz certainly is not the height of the Gotham Select range, but is in no way a disappointment. The sculpt is brilliant, but the figure is let down by some odd articulation round the way the arms sit and some bow legs. The base adds little value, and this may be a factor going forward in the rumour that Diamond may remove the diorama pieces from the Gotham figures, selling them as a single figure line only. I award Victor Zsasz a 3 out of 5 and hope this doesn't mean he pays me a visit to have his rating "adjusted" Buy from Amazon UK Buy from Amazon US Buy from Forbidden Planet

- NECA Series 11 Aliens confirmed as Lambert, Kenner Blue Xeno and Defiance Xenomorph
After a number of teases, the full line up of Series 11 of NECA's Aliens series has been fully confirmed. Rather than basing the series on a single movie, the wave encompasses a movie figure in the guise of Lambert in her Space suit. There is then a Kenner inspired blue warrior alien. And from the Defiance comic book, a Defiance Xenomorph. The figures are due to hit in May 2017 and will retail at the usual $20 mark, UK customers might want to brace themselves as the continually rising prices since Brexit will likely mean these are at least £22 if not higher. After Series 11 hits, NECA will put the range on a short hiatus while they concentrate on the Alien : Covenant figures. Aliens will return in Autumn 2017 with Series 12 and that will be Aliens Resurrection focused. Series 11 of our bestselling Aliens action figures features three action figure debuts! It includes the first-ever Lambert with an authorized likeness, as well as two new Alien figures: one from Dark Horse’s Aliens: Defiance comic book mini-series, and a classic Kenner Alien tribute that’s cast in translucent blue plastic just like the original. Joan Lambert, navigator of the USCSS Nostromo, stands approximately 7” tall and features the likeness of Veronica Cartwright. She comes with two heads, removable helmet and flashlight accessory. Both Xenomorph action figures stand over 9” tall and feature over 30 points of articulation with bendable tails. These figures are due to hit retail in May.
- Toy Fair 2017 : The Best of the Rest
Playmobil While Funko take the iconic Playmobil figure, blow it up to 6" and release it in different cult guises - Playmobil have used this partnership, and most likely Funko's licencing expertise, to capture the Ghostbusters licence for their first ever Movie tie in Playmobil releases. These are the standard size Playmobil figures, which then means various playsets, vehicles and accessories can be released at a reasonably low price point. Already confirmed for a Summer 2017 release are the four Ghostbusters, an ECTO-1, Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, Slimer and the Firehouse.
