- Custom : Gamora, Guardians of the Galaxy, Diamond Select 1/10 Scale
Marvel Cinematic Universe Guardians of the Galaxy Gamora Marvel Select 7" scale Recipe NECA Divergent Triss (body & legs) NECA Jonah Hex. Lila (arms and hair) Diamond Select Disney Store Exclusive Comic Gamora (head) Hasbro 5 POA basic animated Gamora (sword) Star Wars Black Series Greedo (belt) Paints - Revell Aquacolor / Tamiya Once Diamond had announced we would be getting an MCU Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot and Drax in their 7" Select scale but not a Gamora I knew I wanted to do something to allow me to have a full Guardians line up on display. There is no 7" scale likeness of Zoe Saldana at the moment, and the Hasbro Marvel Legends sculpts are too small to pass for 1/10 scale. I therefore decided to go with a representation of Gamora, and it felt right to use the Diamond Select comic book Gamora that was currently being sold as a Disney Store exclusive. While the head was OK, the hair on the Select version was not what I wanted. The head was boiled and hair removed. I then obtained the NECA Lilah (from Jonah Hex) and her head was given same treatment and the hair removed and transplanted onto the Gamora head with a little shaving of the plastic. The body took care of itself in that the costume used by NECA on their Divergent Tris figure was already a pretty good match to what Gamora wore in the Vol. 2 sequel. The arms had to be removed, and I took the arms from the Lilah figure and added these in their place. The pegs were compatible so the swap was easy and the articulation retained. The head needed some work to make it fit on the Tris peg. This also means shaving down the neck. The final addition was the belt which I had left over from a Black Series Greedo figure. It had to be stretched and shaped to fit. A thigh strap was added using some left over strapping from another custom. The figure then needed painting. The costume only really needed darkening to be black all over, I then washed the legs and bodice section in the dark blue as a wash. The belt was glossed black as was the strap and holster. Silver details were added. The skin tone was mixed as the initial green was too dark. This was applied and then some very slight silver strips added to the face. The hair was left it's base colour from Lilah, but I worked up some layers of red and then black washed to tone it back down. Gamora's sword was from the budget Hasbro cartoon line of Guardians. The cartoon Gamora sword is a nice sculpt and is pretty well sized for a 7" figure. All it needed was a paint with black undercoat then silver on top. It also fits neatly into the Greedo holder, although perhaps too snugly as I have had a bit of rub when bringing it out and this needs touching up. While we await the official MCU Star-Lord, Drax, Rocket and Groot - here is Gamora with my current versions of the Guardians.
- New batch of 7" bootleg Marvel figures incoming
For those who remember the 6.5" - 7" Marvel Civil War bootlegs from last year - the Far East company behind them seems to have a new batch incoming. The new 6 figures are all listed as 7" in scale and are Spider-Man comic based. The line up includes a standard comic-book Spider-Man and what appears to be a very loose interpretation of the Homecoming "homemade" suit. The Spider-Man even comes with an iPhone. We then have Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man 2099, Kid Arachnid / Mile Morales and the Black Suited Symbiote Spider-Man. The first listings from these is on the Taobao.com site. Each figure is listed at between 58 and 68 Yen - that is between 40p and 50p in UK money, and this is likely the "buy in bulk price". Expect these to actually be shipped from the Far East at around £5 each + shipping, same as the Civil War versions. eBay is likely too be swamped in the next few weeks.

- Thor Ragnarok figures confirmed via listing on Toywiz site (US)
It didn't take much working out from the teaser trailer that if Diamond were only going to do two figures from Thor Ragnarok, that those figures were going to be Thor and Hulk. Now that speculation is pretty much confirmed with a pre-order that has gone up on US site Toywiz. The pre-order uses the usual silouette images that Diamond sends out ahead of the actual promotional images. Thor appears to be wearing the same gladiator armour we see him wearing as he faces off with Hulk. He is also wearing the winged helmet, the first time in the line - and this is his 4th appearance at 7" Select scale. Hulk is in his Gladiator armour, again with a helmet. The Toywiz site has these listed as $21.99 each and due to ship January. That would be a little earlier than usual as Diamond tend to ship their movie figures about 3-months after the movie. A Diamond Select Toys release! They're friends from work! Send your Marvel Select collection to the distant reaches of the galaxy with these two new 7-inch scale action figures based on the new Marvel Studios film, Thor: Ragnarok! Depicting Thor and the Hulk in their gladiator gear, each figure features 16 points of articulation and includes weapons seen in the film. Each figure comes packaged in the famous Select action figure packaging, with side panel artwork for shelf reference. Sculpted by Gentle Giant! Related Products
- NECA confirm Ultimate Aliens Xenomorph and tease Hadleys Hope diorama piece?
NECA have shared the following images, confirming that the Aliens Xenomorph is making a return in an Ultimate format. The images don't give too much away, and the tweet in which it was shared indicates we will find out more next week. We assume the artwork is the box packaging, therefore it won't be presented in the usual blister packaging. The interesting element of the artwork is the two different colourations - one brown, one blue. This represents that the release will have two variants, the same as was released as single figures back at the start of the NECA Aliens line "Look who's coming back in the Ultimate format with added articulation, accessories & more. Full details next week. #facehuggerfriday" Also teased by NECA is this Hadley's Hope sign - as seen in Aliens, 1986. When asked if this would be a diorama type release or a print out backdrop - Randy Falk from NECA answered... "you will be able to get this piece for your collection and displays along with more possibly news on that next week or the following"
