Once Diamond had announced we would be getting an MCU Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot and Drax in their 7" Select scale but not a Gamora I knew I wanted to do something to allow me to have a full Guardians line up on display.

There is no 7" scale likeness of Zoe Saldana at the moment, and the Hasbro Marvel Legends sculpts are too small to pass for 1/10 scale. I therefore decided to go with a representation of Gamora, and it felt right to use the Diamond Select comic book Gamora that was currently being sold as a Disney Store exclusive.

While the head was OK, the hair on the Select version was not what I wanted. The head was boiled and hair removed.

I then obtained the NECA Lilah (from Jonah Hex) and her head was given same treatment and the hair removed and transplanted onto the Gamora head with a little shaving of the plastic.

The body took care of itself in that the costume used by NECA on their Divergent Tris figure was already a pretty good match to what Gamora wore in the Vol. 2 sequel. The arms had to be removed, and I took the arms from the Lilah figure and added these in their place. The pegs were compatible so the swap was easy and the articulation retained.

The head needed some work to make it fit on the Tris peg. This also means shaving down the neck.

The final addition was the belt which I had left over from a Black Series Greedo figure. It had to be stretched and shaped to fit. A thigh strap was added using some left over strapping from another custom.

The figure then needed painting. The costume only really needed darkening to be black all over, I then washed the legs and bodice section in the dark blue as a wash. The belt was glossed black as was the strap and holster. Silver details were added.

The skin tone was mixed as the initial green was too dark. This was applied and then some very slight silver strips added to the face. The hair was left it's base colour from Lilah, but I worked up some layers of red and then black washed to tone it back down.

Gamora's sword was from the budget Hasbro cartoon line of Guardians. The cartoon Gamora sword is a nice sculpt and is pretty well sized for a 7" figure. All it needed was a paint with black undercoat then silver on top. It also fits neatly into the Greedo holder, although perhaps too snugly as I have had a bit of rub when bringing it out and this needs touching up.

While we await the official MCU Star-Lord, Drax, Rocket and Groot - here is Gamora with my current versions of the Guardians.
