  • Luke & Rey Star Wars Black Series. Is this an extra SDCC exclusive?

Fans attending SDCC 2017 look like they will be getting another Hasbro Star Wars Black Series exclusive that they weren't expecting. While the Landspeeder and Thrawn have been announced up front, this special two pack has been held back until it leaked via a Far East site earlier today. The indications are that the two figures - Rey in her Jedi gear, and Luke Skywalker - will be released single carded on Force Friday 2017. The exclusivity of the pack is therefore the 2-pack hinged packaging. The packaging itself isn't the same as the current phase 3 packaging. While that may be because of the SDCC exclusivity, it might also indicate a packaging change for the Last Jedi figures onwards. The image seems to show a smaller Star Wars logo at the box header, and the character name has changed from red to white. Since this pack was revealed there has been some updated promotional blurb from Hasbro (see below) Star Wars The Black Series Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) & Rey (Jedi Training) Kids and fans alike can imagine the biggest battles and missions in the Star Wars saga with figures from The Black Series! • Black Panther 12" Marvel Legends MCU figure for 2018 release

To date, the larger 12" Marvel Legends range from Hasbro has been comic book based. We've seen Iron-Man, Captain America and Spider-Man - and we have Daredevil, Thor and Hulk incoming. However, it seems Hasbro are now moving into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with their detailed 12" collectors figures. And the first to hit stores will be this lovely looking Black Panther in 2018. This new direction for the 12" Legends was revealed at D23, with a prototype figure on show for fans to admire. The figure won't be on sale until 2018, and the RRP should be around the $70 / £60 mark like the comic book equivalents. With the aforementioned comic book releases already seeing deep discounts and clearance activity, this move to MCU may re-energise the 12" line and be a cost friendly alternative to the Hot Toys MCU range.

  • NECA reveal Colonel James Cameron in their Aliens line

The figure was revealed today as a James Cameron figure in USCM Colonial Marine armour. Colonel Cameron uses the Frost/Windrix body, with new sculpted head likeness of the 1986 Aliens Director. He will be articulated with 25 POA and will be packed with a number of decorative details like a Canadian flag, Pandora Planet Patch (Avatar) and a Lightstorm logo (James' own company). He can also be ordered via the Neca Alien X club, but NECA have confirmed he is not a required purchase for ongoing club membership. The first-ever action figure featuring his likeness is a tribute to the process of creating the movie Aliens as well as the director himself. USCM Colonel Cameron becomes the highest-ranking officer in the Aliens movie universe. The 7" scale figure has over 25 points of articulation and features the likeness of James Cameron as he appeared during the filming of Aliens. There are a few fun Easter eggs relating to the director hidden on the figure itself: a Canadian flag shoulder patch, the Lightstorm logo, and a Pandora planet patch. DSTChuck: Yes, at this time our plan is to include RGB as part of the line. The big news is this question of releasing an in-scale Ecto-1. The answer appears to be positive. Could we see a deluxe release sometime soon? Are you looking at doing an Ecto-1 to fit the Ghostbusters figures any time soon or is this not even to be considered? Many thanks! DSTChuck: Yes, that is something we would very much like to do at some point.

  • New images of Bandai's 1/12 General Grievous

Bandai's General Grievous model kit is released on the 29th July. In anticipation of this release, checkout these new images of the kit and the box art. Checkout that robotic heart, ripe for Obi-Wan to pull out and crush. Sadly UK and US customers might have to hunt this one down via a company willing to import out of Japan. Under the licence, Bandai are not permitted to sell direct to anyone outside of the country. Patience may be the key here for UK customers at least - with most Bandai kits hitting Amazon UK via Japanese sellers. While early prices might be high, they should settle down to around £20-£25 for a single figure kit. Checkout the current offerings here.

  • NECA Robocop vs Terminator reveal

NECA are returning to the Robocop licence later this year, and in a similar move to the approach taken with Alien & Predator - they will be turning to the Dark Horse comics for their source material. The next Robocop release will be based on the Robocop vs Terminator series from 1992. It was written by Frank Miller and published by Dark Horse Comics. The figure will see the standard NECA Robocop release tweaked to include Terminator Endoskeletal arms, and a rocket launcher backpack. Going by NECA's tweet accompanying the image, we will see more of this figure at SDCC 2017 "#SDCC preview - The future of law enforcement takes flight.... #robocop #terminator"
