NECA have announced another of their San Diego Comic Con 2019 exclusives, this wonderful looking Sensei John Kreese figure from Karate Kid. Scaled in the 8 inch line, the figure will be include sculpted head, highly articulated body and tailored soft good clothing. The frustration for fans of the Karate Kid who are looking forward to the upcoming figures of Daniel, Johnny and Mr Miyagi is the exclusivity of the Kreese figure. This will be available only in the US - so UK collectors will have to turn to the secondary market. In the US the run on the figure will be limited and has to either be pre-ordered across June 5th to 7th for delivery after SDCC 2019 or bought at the NECA booth at the event. With the release of the first official MCU movie for Spider-Man, Homecoming in 2017, Hasbro released a full wave of Spider-Man Legend figures with two Spider-Man movie figures and a movie Vulture. The wave was then rounded out with comic book figures of Beetle, Tombstone, Moon Knight and Cosmic Spider-Man. Each of the 7 figures came with a part to build the movie Vulture wing suit that connects to the Vulture figure. Packaging 5/5 The Homecoming Spider-Man packaging for the three MCU releases brought a vibrant sky blue backdrop along with red highlighted images to the Legends packaging which was visually impressive against the sleek black of the box. The Spider-Man logo sits front and centre under the window and with the yellow and red colouring adds another point of visual impact. The rear showed a promotional image of the Homemade Spider-Man figure alongside a short blurb. "When Peter Parker discovers spider-like senses and wall-crawling abilities, he develops his own suit to become Spider-Man" Paint & Sculpt 4/5 This is the homemade suit that Peter uses through a lot of the movie, and it comes with a masked head only. The head is pretty impressive with a stitched seam sculpted across the front and the stretching of the material over what would be Peter's nose and mouth. The hood piece fitted on arrival is the look with the hood down. You can pop off the head and this hood piece and replace it with a hood up version for an alternative look. The hood up look does sit up a little over the head which is a shame. The rest of the outfit is sculpted to look like material and not armour or lycra. You can see the various folds where folds should be and there are even pockets in the hoodie. The colours are bright but are single tone only with the parts cast in either red or the sky blue. The only additional paint applied on top is the very neat spider logo, the zip, the wrist web shooters and his gloves. The body look overall is well proportioned to the build of Peter Parker (Tom Holland). The figure is supplied with a pair of fists and a pair of web shooting hands. These pop on and off easily. For those wondering, we tried the unmasked Tom Holland head from the Homecoming 2-pack on this figure, and sadly it doesn't fit. You would need to do work on one or both pieces to get them to marry up. Accessories N/A There are no accessories with Spider-Man. While you could argue a backpack or mobile phone would have been nice - the figure does come with a decent amount of swap out options already. Articulation 5/5 Spidey has 19 points of articulation, and with such a slim frame and no encumbering cloaks or armour is supremely articulated - lot's of fun for posing. Head : ball joint with pivot Body : T-joint torso, waist swivel Arms : ball joint shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, wrist pivot Legs : ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, ankle pivot The figure, like most Spider-Man figures, really comes alive if you can get him onto a flying or action stand and replicate the web swinging poses. Summary Homemade Suit Spider-Man is a real triumph of a figure that looks great and like the subject matter and is well articulated allowing the figure to replicate plenty of on-screen poses. The only real downside for the figure is how successful it has been and it is one of a handful or modern MCU Legends figures that sell for considerably more than their original RRP. McFarlane have announced two more 7 inch scale Call of Duty figures. Dr. Edward Richtofen and Frank Woods will be released in August 2019. A further two figures have also been teased for release at the same time using a silhouette image. DR. Jazwares have been making 4 inch Fortnite figures for some time now, and they will shortly be breaking into the 6 inch market with their brand new Fortnite Legendary Collection of 6 inch 1/12 scale figures from the game. Each figure comes with a wealth of accessories and a pretty cool feature of swap out faces, with the faces fitting on most of the other figures in the line. The first wave is made up of The Visitor, Rabbit Raider, Wildcard, Skull Trooper (Purple Glow), Enforcer and Havoc. Each are packed in a window box with hanging tab. Articulation, looking at the promo images, looks good and comparable to other 6 inch lines from Hasbro and Mattel. The line is due for release in the first week of June 2019. We will be keeping an eye on the UK toy aisles to see if this shows up here - although the Fortnite market appears quite saturated here already with Smyths and Asda already clearancing the existing stock. It seems a 2nd wave is planned for August 2019 release with Amazon having listings up for Leviathan, Tomatohead and Valkyrie.

The Hasbro Lightning Collection, it's new 6 inch Power Rangers property, will launch in 2019. The first figure we saw was the White Ranger and there had been some conflicting info about which other figures would be included for the first wave. Hasbro have now confirmed the line will launch with a four figure wave made up of the White Ranger, the S.P.D. Shadow Ranger, Lord Zedd and Dino Charge Red Ranger. The Dino Charge Red Ranger comes with unmasked head and we've got the packaged image for this figure. There will also be an exclusive Goldar figure going into Gamestop stores. We would expect this to be available outside the US via the usual channels. "GOLDAR, the iconic villain and nemesis of the MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS crashes into the LIGHTNING COLLECTION with this premium figure from Hasbro. Inspired by Rita Repulsa's legendary, golden-armored warrior, this GOLDAR figure is highly poseable and includes a sword accessory and battle FX accessories. Available exclusively at GameStop." The figures will be 6 inch scale and presented similar to existing 6 inch figures from Hasbro like Star Wars Black Series and Marvel Legends. The packaging looks great and maintains the original Power Rangers feel, while I think will appeal to collectors.

After revealing the full details for their 7 inch scale Harry Potter figures, McFarlane have now updated their Wizarding World page with some info on the Buckbeak deluxe figure that will arrive in September 2019. The single image released at this stage shows Buckbeak atop a display stand and it seems McFarlane have not scrimped on the base size and height - collectors with less room and smaller cabinets, like me, will hope there are alternative height options. What is disappointing, by the looks of the dimensions, is that this is not in scale with the 7 inch figures. If the figure is 10 inch high on the stand and only 4.5 inches long, then there is no way this scales with the 7 inch Harry Potter, Ron and Hermione figures. A magical creature that has the front legs, wings and head of a giant eagle and the body, hind legs and tail of a horse. Half horse, half eagle creatures, immensely proud and extremely dangerous. Ronin (Clint Barton) was released in April 2019 in the first Avengers wave of the year. He and Captain America in his Quantum Suit were the two Endgame MCU figures of the wave, with the other MCU figure being Ebony Maw from Infinity War. The wave was rounded up by comic book figures of Hercules, The Living Laser, Citizen V and Nighthawk. Each figure in the wave (except Cap) had a build-a-figure piece that combined to make an Infinity War armoured Thanos figure. Packaging 4/5 The Avengers wave for 2019 carried a pale blue theme with a darker blue Avengers logo. Interestingly there is no mention of Endgame on the box - perhaps it wasn't released in time for the packing to go to production, or Marvel held it back to avoid spoilers. Like the late 2018 figures, the back of the box no longer carries a promotional figure image but an image based on the movie. The character name is listed solely as Ronin and it is only on the rear promotional text that Clint Barton is mentioned. The blurb is a little tame considering the real reason Clint donned the Ronin guise and what he did while wearing it. "Clint Barton is a master sharpshooter and skilled martial artist who fights alongside the Avengers" Paint & Sculpt 4/5 The figure comes with a single masked head, and this in itself is a bit of a disappointment especially as we know a brand new Jeremy Renner Hawkeye head has been sculpted and produced for the Quantum suit 2-pack. Putting this aside it is good to see that there is an element of face printing used on the exposed part of the face with some shading to the skin and realistic eyes. The costume is fairly accurate and is cast in black. The scabbard is a removable piece if you want to take this off for your display. The hood too is removable and for me gives a better look to Ronin. The jacket appears to be removable, but even once unclipped and with the head popped off I found it impossible to get off without damage. Underneath we do have a sculpted torso that resembles the gear Hawkeye wore later in the movie - that means you can use this and the Renner head to kitbash a final battle Hawkeye (I would suspect Hasbro will give us one at some point). On top of the black cast pieces is some neatly applied gold patterns and a touch of silver around the tip of the jacket. Accessories 3/5 Ronin does not come with a bow, and instead has two swords. Each is cast in grey/silver with the hilt painted black. The longer sword fits best in the scabbard, and can also fit in either hand. The shorter of the two also fits in either hand, but looks a little lost when sheathed. Both swords suffer from paint rub on the black and this is worsened when the swords are slotted into the figures hands with paint flaking off. The answer was surely to cast these in black and then paint the blades? The other accessory is a bit of an odd one and is a spare left hand in a open throwing position with some throwing stars coming off mid-throw. Like a lot of FX pieces, these are not everyone's cup of tea. The stars themselves are translucent some of the way and that does help to sell the effect, particularly in a darker display cabinet. Articulation 2/5 Hawkeye is designed to have 19 points of articulation as below. Head : ball joint with pivot Body : T-joint torso, waist swivel Arms : ball joint shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, wrist pivot Legs : ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, ankle pivot The upper part of the body works well with the arms being very mobile and they can just about meet for a two handed sword pose at a push. It is interesting to see a ratchet t-joint torso joint under the coat. The coat makes this difficult to use, but indicates Hasbro potentially have more planned for the torso piece in the future. The issue is with the lower legs, particularly the knees which do not want to bend at all on the right let. This seems to be a design flaw on all the Ronin figures with an oversized knee joint that will rip if the leg is bent. So while the left leg can move, there are no significant posing options when the right leg is locked. Summary Ronin is an interesting choice for a launch wave for Endgame, but as a huge Hawkeye fan I am glad he made it to figure status after being overlooked in previous movies. The issues are clear that a unmasked Renner head would have really made this figure and those knee joints are obviously an error. That aside I am impressed by the sculpt and the decor with the neatly painted gold on black. I can also see how the figure could lead to another (and probably better) Endgame Hawkeye figure in the long run, so the design from Hasbro is clever. Hasbro have been releasing basic 6 inch figures for the last few Marvel movies, and for Avengers Endgame they did away with the previous gimmicks (remember the Infinity Stone weapons) and went for a basic figure at a pocket money price to allow kids to re-enact various scenes from Endgame. Packaging 4/5 The Endgame figures, unlike the more expensive Marvel Legends, come on a shaped cardback blister pack. The figure sits to the right with an Avengers logo above and the Avengers logo sitting at the front of the blister. An illustration of the character, Iron-Spider, takes up the left hand side of the card. Interestingly we don't have the full Endgame logo, just the word Avengers. This is the same as we see on Marvel Legends and indicates the packaging was signed off prior to the naming of the movie or was held back at least to avoid spoilers. Round the back is wider shot of Iron-Spider and a brief text about the character. Under this is a short three box checklist of other figures in the line - Ant-Man, Chitauri and Captain America. "PETER PARKER GEARS UP IN AN ADVANCED SUIT MADE FOR HIM BY TONY STARK" Paint & Sculpt 4/5 The basic line is made to a 6 inch size and not a 6 inch scale. For smaller characters like Iron-Spider, he fits well with other 6 inch lines like Marvel Legends. In fact he is slightly taller than his Legends counterpart. When you get to taller figures like Black Panther, Cap etc these will be undersized. The sculpt is pretty great and the figure is overall very well proportioned. While the decor is neat it is quite basic as expected at a sub £10 price point. Accessories 3/5 Being the Iron-Spider, the figures comes with the additional mechanical spider arms - putting it one up on the Marvel Legends release to date. The parts come in 5 parts - a backpack and four identical arms, all cast in a bronze plastic. Each arm snaps into a socket on the backpack, and that allows them some level of movement. The backpack slots into a socket on the back of the figure. A small stub remains on the outside of the backpack - a left over from this figures previous use in the Infinity War line where the Infinity War gimmick used to sit. Articulation 3/5 Iron-Spider weighs in with 7 points of articulation Head : ball joint neck Arms : ball joint shoulder, rotating elbow joint Legs : socket hip rotation The arms are quite wide ranging allowing for some web shooting poses. The head is also quite mobile with some movement allowing him to look up and down. The legs are the weak spot with a single joint a the hip which only swings out to a sitting position. Again, it is worth considering the price point and at sub £10 this level of articulation is consistent with other figures from Hasbro like Star Wars. It is however a little bit behind the nearest direct comparison from Mattel, the Batman Missions Series. Summary Iron-Spider, and the other Endgame basic figures, will set you back £9.99 - you may even find them cheaper with our review figure being bought in Asda for £7.97 These are robust well made figures that the kids can throw about and play with, without looking like too cheap. In Iron-Spiders case there is a pretty good sculpt under the basic plastic colours which customisers may want to exploit. This figure was purchased for my son, age 9, and I asked him to sum up the figure for me. He loves it as it fits with his other 6 inch Marvel figures (Homecoming, Infinity War, Black Panther) and he even mocked the fact his has the mechanical legs when mine doesn't. If you want to judge a toy, then see how long it holds a child's interest - and this one was played with extensively on arrival, even switching allegiance to the DC universe and fighting alongside Missions Batman. Based on this, I score the Hasbro Marvel Avengers Endgame basic series Iron-Spider a 4 out of 5.

NECA have announced their 2nd San Diego Comic Con 2019 exclusive, a variant version of their Pennywise 7 inch from the 2017 IT movie. This SDCC 2019 Pennywise is based on the Derry Carving Engraving and is presented in an engraved style. He comes with two heads as well as two balloons. One balloon is grey "engraved" to match the figure, while the 2nd is bright red which looks stunning next to the grayscale figure. The boxed packaging will be, in NECA's own words, "features debossed printing and foil accents" which sounds cool. The figure, like all of NECA's SDCC 2019 exclusives, will go up for pre-order online across June 5th to 7th. There will be a limited number each day and if you are lucky enough to get a pre-order in, then the item will be shipped to you (US addresses only) after SDCC. Diamond Select Toys have confirmed they are releasing Select 7 inch scale figures from the cult movie Tron (1982). Three figures have been announced in the first wave. Two of these figures, Tron and Sark, have been available previously in the Kingdom Heart Select line and are now being repacked into the Tron line. The third figure is a new addition and is Infiltrator Flynn. As well as a figure, the Select release will include accessories such as discs and FX pieces. There is also a Recognizer "build a vehicle" which can be built with a part included in each of the three figures.
