Its Marvel Monday for March, and we have our first MCU release for some time with a new twin pack of Marvel Legend figures from the Black Widow movie. The set features Red Guardian and Melina Vostokoff and will be released on the 1st of August 2021. Red Guardian looks to use the same body as the single release, but is much improved with the head now a better likeness to David Harbour and the hair/beard he sports in the movie - the masked head is also included. Accessories for Red Guardian include a pair of hands, his shield and a Red Guardian action figure. Melina Vostokoff is certainly borrowing parts from the white jumpsuit Black Widow and Yelena Belova figures. The Rachel Weisz head is new, and looks pretty good from the promo images. Melina is armed with batons and a grappling hook and she also comes with alternative hands. After decades of service, Melina Vostokoff distanced herself from the Red Room. But when Natasha Romanoff returns, Melina and Red Guardian must decide where their allegiance lies. In 2015 the Marvel Legends Infinite Series line released a Toys R Us Exclusive boxset which featured the three key S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who featured in the 2012 Avengers movie. Since the release, we have not had any further figures of Coulson or Maria Hill, and only one further Nick Fury as seen in the Captain Marvel movie, This makes this one of the more sought after sets in the MCU range of Marvel Legends. The packaging used on the set was an expansion of the box design at the time which had just been established a year previously with the scooped sides and large open front window as opposed to the blister card format pre-2014. This new phase of Marvel Legends was badged as the Infinite Series which featured as a sub-title under the main Legends logo. The Avengers movie logo sits on the top rail of the window with a further blue Avengers logo on the bottom rail. Running the length of the very bottom of the box are the character names. The side art features all three characters in an illustrated greyscale that is reminiscent of the artwork on the Star Wars Black Series. While Fury and Coulson are instantly recognisable, the likeness to Maria Hill on the art is not as good. Maria has also been reversed on the sides - while Fury and Coulson remain the same orientation - which doesn't help. The back of the box repeats the main logo's again for Legends and Avengers and then shows an image of each of the figures included in the set. Next to each of the characters is a short piece of text - nothing specific to the Avengers movie. For Maria Hill it reads... "An elite espionage agent, Maria Hill is always there when it counts" 4.0 The images used below are from stock photos of the set. Despite the age of the figure and the fact it predates face print tech, the likeness on Hill to actor Cobie Smulders is pretty good with well painted features and a sculpt that captures the raised eyebrow expression with a slight smirk on her face. The head sculpt also features an ear piece and a neat hair sculpt with an added bun on the back. The head looks a little too big vs the body, but that is more down to the body proportions being used at the time for MCU figures which still held some level of exaggerated comic book design. The body of Maria Hill borrows from the Black Widow figure released in 2014 for The Winter Soldier movie, specifically the legs and the upper arms. The torso and lower arms are new. The body suit is cast in a dark blue with painted silver zip. S.H.I.E.L.D. logo's are added to both shoulders. A belt piece is added in black with sculpted pistols in holsters - these are non removable but are painted silver. Straps on the midriff and the thighs are sculpted additions that are painted black and line up with the added belt segment. The outfit finishes in boots that are also painted in black. 4.0 Two handguns are included in the S.H.I.E.L.D. set, and they work with Hill or Fury. The guns are quite plain with limited details on the sculpt and a quite clunky trigger and stock vs more modern weapon accessories. They are cast in grey with a single blue line across the barrel. The blue does give them the look of the ICER (Night Night) Gun seen in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but as far as I know, both Hill and Fury were carrying normal handguns for Avengers, Hill is provided with only one weapon wielding hand, her right, while the other is cast in a fist. The gun fits into place with reasonable ease, but the grip is not tight and the trigger finger does not want to slip into place. The weapon cant' be holstered as the holsters themselves are cast with a weapon already in place, This also makes it an odd look for Hill to have two holstered guns and then a third gun in her hand. 2.5 Maria Hill has a total of 16 points of articulation, a standard for female bodies for the Marvel Legends at that time. Head : ball joint neck Body : torso ball joint Arms : ball joint shoulder, single joint rotating elbow, wrist pivot Legs: ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double joint knees, ankle rockers As a slim body with no obvious issues with armour or cloaks, Hill poses really well. The legs in particular are very mobile and she can kneel, sit and crouch with all the leg joints very tight and secure. The arms are where the issues lie. The elbows will only go to 90 degrees, and that does hold back some key posing. I would have loved to be able to pose my Maria Hill with her hand on her ear piece relaying some information to Fury or other Agents. There is also an odd decision with the right hand wrist which is pivoted on the side of the hand not the top. This means the wrist bends to the side - which is a natural movement but it looks a bit odd on the figure. Losing the top movement also wont allow the gun to be lined up if the arm is outstretched in a firing position. Oddly the left hand is jointed on the top? 3.5 The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D set is one I have been chasing for some time (at a sensible price of course) and I can now say I am 33% there with the acquisition of Maria Hill. The figure stands up well in head sculpt to the more modern Legends but does of course lack the face print options. The body, like the Black Widow on which much of it is based, is a bit stylised and bow legged. The accessory is pretty poor, as was the case with many accessories of the early 2014-2015 MCU era. The choice to sculpt fitted guns in holsters and provide a fun accessory is also an odd one. Posing of the gun and the arms are made difficult by the elbow joint and the slightly odd wrist articulation on the right hand. It is always difficult to rate a figure that is a number of years old as of course I am comparing it to the figures we are getting now. While I would love a new Maria Hill figure - and wouldn't be upset if it was this head with face print apps - the 2015 version doesn't look massively out of place with the other MCU figures. Kevin Smith's Masters of the Universe Revelation is heading to Netflix this year, and with it will come a new line of Mattel action figures from this animated sequel to the original series. Sonner Toys in the UK have shared details of the first Revelation figures to be incoming for the show, and these will standard collector figures at a £19.99 UK price point - we assume these will be 7 inch in scale. There will then be a larger scale (size not yet confirmed) called the over-sized figures and some mini-figure sets. So far, only Skeletor is listed in the over-sized figures at £29.99. The smaller figures will include He-Man, Teela, Skeletor, Spikor, Mossman, Man at Arms, Evil-Lyn and Beast Man. There will also be a deluxe Battle Cat figure at £39.99 - it is unclear if this will also include a He-Man? The Revelation figures will be released in October 2021 according to Sonner Toys. "High-end collector line of MOTU figures celebrating exciting moments in the action of Masters of the Universe. Premium decos, 30 points of articulation for extreme posability plus accessories for epic storytelling." The page from Sonner also includes some listings for the He-Man, Masters of the Universe Origins figures which are a more classic 5.5 inch line. NECA's horror franchises continue to expand with this image shared on NECA's social channels from the classic 1981 movie, An American Werewolf in London. No more details were given, but it seems likely that this will be an Ultimate release later this year (2021).

The Harry Potter 1/10 Art Scale statues from Iron Studios keep coming, this time from The Prisoner of Azkaban and the scenes where Harry takes a ride on Buckbeak during his Magical Creatures lesson with Hagrid. The dynamic statue depicts Buckbeak in full flight over the Great Lake carrying Harry on his back who is sat with his arms outstretched. The set will be a 4th Quarter 2021 release. Buckbeak is a fantastic creature, known as a hippogriff, with a gray tinge. Its back, legs and paws are like those of a horse, and its head and its front are like a bird of prey. The fantastic creature even has long wings that allow it to fly. Enthusiastic and full of adrenaline, provided by his first flight riding through the skies of Hogwarts, the young wizard, Harry Potter, screams and opens his arms when his new friend, and mascot, slides his right front paw across the waters of a lake in a sweeping maneuver. This iconic scene from the movie "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" is also proudly replicated by Iron Studios in the "Harry Potter and Buckbeak Deluxe Art Scale 1/10 - Harry Potter - Iron Studios" statue. Hagrid, the gentle Hogwarts game-keeper, introduced Buckbeak to Harry Potter in his first class of Treating Magical Creatures, and the young wizard's admiration and respect for the hippogriff earned his trust. Spawn from McFarlane is moving out from the umbrella of Mortal Kombat with their own releases in the new McFarlane 7 inch scale. The first releases are Mandarin Spawn, with the blue version exclusive to Walmart in the Gold Label Collection and the red version a general release. Hasbro held their 2021 Investor Event virtually on the 25th of February 2021 where they share their financial performance and business goals and strategies for the coming year and beyond. For action figure fans it was interesting to see that Hasbro have increased their partnership agreement with Epic Games and we will be seeing Fortnite Action Figures from Hasbro in the future as well as the existing Nerf product. It is unclear where this leaves Jazwares or McFarlane who are also doing Fortnite action figure product. "Extending Hasbro’s partnership with Epic Games, which will continue our NERF & Games FORTNITE license, and expand the scope of our rights to include Action Figures & Role Play in 2021 and beyond." The other takeaway for UK fans was the planned expansion of Hasbro Pulse into the UK with other markets then in the pipeline. There are no dates as yet for launch and it will be interesting to see what impact this has on the independent retailers that serve us so well and if the Fan Channel dynamic for exclusives will change and revert to Hasbro Pulse only? Hasbro UK have shared the full details of their Movie Masterpiece Series Optimus Prime, arriving in the UK in the Summer of 2021. The figure of Optimus is taken from the CAD files for his appearance in the Bumblebee movie and features 50 points of articulation, die cast parts and premium decor. Accessories include the Matrix of Leadership, which fits into his chest, and an Ion Blaster. The figure can of course transform between robot and truck in 49 steps. Hasbro have released details of the next two Star Wars Vintage Collection 3.75 inch releases of Lando Calrissian and IG-11. Both figures are general releases and will arrive in Autumn 2021. Lando is based on his appearance on Bespin in the Empire Strikes Back and comes with his trademark cape and a blaster. NECA have released images for the next Ultimate Lost Tribe Predator, the Warrior. The figure features both masked and unmasked head and an alternative pair of hands. Weaponry includes a flail, axe, extended and retracted spears, disc blades and a shoulder cannon with FX piece to imitate firing. The set also includes a skull on its own, and a second with spinal column attached. The Ultimate Lost Tribe Warrior is the 6th figure in this Ultimate Series revisit of Predator 2, and there are four more figures to be revealed - the Shaman, Boar, Snake and Elder Predators.
