After a considerable gap since their last release, Bandai have announced new kits in their Star Wars line - both based on the Disney+ show, The Mandalorian. In the 1/12 figure kit series, we will have two versions of The Mandalorian himself, one in a flat grey armour and a more premium kit with a high metallic sheen finish. Both figures come with a removable jet pack, alternative hands and a number of weaponry options. There is then a kit for The Razor Crest which also comes in a base finish and premium metallic version. There is no scale listed for this, but will most likely be 1/144 as per the other Star Wars Bandai kits of this size like Slave-1 The premium versions will retail at a higher price, and initially, be distributed in the Far East only as per their licence with Disney. We will likely see the kits in the US via Bluefin, and the Razor Crest may be carried in Europe via the distribution deal with Revell. The kits are down as a July 2021 release. Icon Heroes have shared the following image on their social media pages with the caption "coming soon" From what we can see, this looks to be a future release in their 6-inch scale Karate Kid line which currently comprises of Daniel Laruso and Johnny Lawrence from the original movie. The Cobra Kai logo on the back of the figure along with the blond-looking hair indicates this may be a John Lawrence from the Cobra Kai Netflix series based, but the most likely source is Karate Kid Part III and that this is Daniel from that movie? Icon Heroes are not confirming anything, commenting "stay tuned" when questioned...

The promotional coverage for the upcoming Marvel MCU Phase 4 movie Shang-Chi really kicked off this week with character posters, the first trailer, and now a product launch article on Marvel.com and linked into the birthday of actor Simu Liu who received a full package of merchandise from Disney and Marvel. Our interest of course turns to the action figures, and the worst kept secret of the Marvel Legends Shang-Chi figures. There will be a mixed MCU/Comic Book wave that will feature a Build-a-Figure of Mr. Hyde. The comic book inclusions will be the previously revealed Civil Warrior and AI Tony Stark. There will then be four MCU Shang-Chi figures including Shang-Chi himself, Wenwu, Xialing and the mysterious Death Dealer. A fifth figure, Katy, is not part of the BAF wave and is an exclusive release at Target in the US, and most likely via Hasbro Pulse / Specialists in the UK. She will include a Dijiang (Divine Creature) called Morris which is a faceless bird from Chinese Mythology that appears to be a part of the overall movie plot. Hasbro has announced another set of figures to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Lucasfilm in 2021. The 6-inch Black Series figures are all taken from The Clone Wars and are packed on cardbacks that reflect the original 3.75-inch Clone Wars line of figures. The four-figure lineup features a Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker, and his master Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Clonetroopers will be represented by Arc Trooper Echo as well as the Clone Pilot, Hawk. Obi-Wan and Anakin come in their Clone Wars Jedi General gear and are translated to the 'real world' style of the Black Series. Both are packed with their lightsaber. Obi-Wan utilises what looks to be the newer body Clone Trooper arms and legs with new chest piece. Anakin is using parts from the existing figure from what I can see, with new armour parts and a new head. Hawk sees a new Clone Pilot helmet added to the line with an attached chest unit. Hawk looks to be on the old Clone body as you can see the pinned joints in the promo images. He is armed with a single DC-15S blaster. Echo includes a number of new Arc Trooper parts and armour, it is not immediately obvious waht base body he uses but from what I can tell there are no pins in the arms of legs so it should be the new buck. He comes with a removable helmet, twin blasters, DC15S blaster and the longer DC-15A. The line is exclusive to Target in the US, with an RRP of $24.99. Tamashii Nations have confirmed a third SH Figuarts release from the Disney+ show, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Following on from the announced figures of Falcon and Bucky, it has now been confirmed we are also getting a 6-inch version of John Walker's Captain America. Walker comes with both masked and unmasked head. He will also feature the Cap shield, with a good-looking FX piece/stand that recreates the Shield being thrown and bounced into an opponent. The figure also includes a handgun and working holster. There will also be the usual number of hand options The figure is due to go up at Bandai Premium Store in the Far East as a pre-order, most likely for the Autumn or Winter of 2021. Halloween Kills, due for release in October 2021, is the 12th installment in the Halloween franchise and a direct sequel to the 2018 outing for Michael Myers. It has been confirmed that NECA is going to be releasing figures from the Halloween Kills movie with a teaser video released by NECA and a listing now live on Big Bad Toy Store for an Ultimate Michael Myers figure from the movie. There are no images as yet, but BBTS is giving us a few details as listed below and a release date of September 2021, which means the figure will land before the movie if all goes to plan. This Ultimate Michael Myers figure is based on his appearance in the new Halloween Kills movie and stands over 7" tall. Iron Studios have sent over details of a new 1/10 Art Scale Joker figure from DC. The new release will feature The Joker in his iconic purple suit. He is armed with a crowbar and standing atop a diorama base. As well as a standard release of the statue, there will also be a deluxe version that features three alternative head options as well as The Joker's fedora added to the diorama base, along with an effect of gas being released. Both versions are down for a Q3 release in 2021. The Prince Clown of Crime, from Gotham City, in a new version of the comic books by Iron Studios! "With a more contemporary look, but not leaving his past behind, combining classic colors and elements, dressed in purple, complemented with a black shirt, orange suspenders, and a blue tie, The Joker gets one more version derived from the DC Comics by Iron Studios." On a base, he poses as if he is walking between cylinders, connections, and pipes, which refers to the scenario of "Ace Chemical Transformation Factory" in Gotham City, the villain's birthplace. The NECA Universal Monsters line has seen a full reveal so far for a Frankenstein's Monster, as well as teases for the Mummy, the Wolfman, and Dracula. We now have a full press release for the license from NECA that confirms what we can expect to see from the other figures in the line when it gets going. The Wolfman will be based on the 1941 movie, as played by Lon Chaney Jr. While the Mummy will be the 1932 Boris Karloff, and Dracula from a year earlier in 1931 as portrayed by Bela Lugosi. The press release also confirmed that the Boris Karloff black & white Frankenstein's Monster figure from the 1931 Frankenstein movie will see a follow-up release of the same figure in colour. Lanard Toys have been around since 1978 and have made a name for themselves in the 3.75-inch action figure market with lines such as The Corps, and more recently with movie tie-in releases such as Kong : Skull Island, Jumanji, and Rampage. They recently added the Alien licence and released a number of kid-focused sets featuring 3.75-inch Colonial Marins and in scale, Kenner-esque, Aliens. It was therefore no surprise to see Lanard then announce a Predator licence and we expected a very similar approach to the other lines when these hit store shelves. We were wrong of course, and Lanard has mixed things up by releasing 7-inch figures from the Predator universe including the City Hunter from Predator 2 that we are looking at here, as well as the Berserker from Predators and the original 1987 Jungle Hunter. The figures are Walmart exclusives in the US and sold via Smyths Toys here in the UK. The Predator figures are packed in a substantial window-box which uses plenty of Dark Horse inspired artwork and with a utilisation also of the red thermal vision view of the Predators and the triangular 3-dot targeting system. The whole line is being badged as 'The Hunter Series' and the figure name is confirmed within an insert in the blister itself. Round the back, there is a background write-up about the line and creates a background narrative that may well see Lanard introduce other characters or at least generic figures to fight the Predators. "Predators - the most deadly and elusive hunters in the universe, have now chosen Earth as their otherwordly hunting ground. Special forces, police, and intelligence operatives now aware of these deadly creatures have united to tack them down. But really, who's tracking whom! Utilizing advanced alien technology these deceptive extraterrestrials have an array of weapons for any situation or environment. From dense tropical jungles to concrete laden cities, the unseen Predators stalk their prey and will only leave with trophies in hand. Test your mettle and choose your Predator, grab them before they disappear. Let the Hunt begin." The back of the box also shows an image of the figure and has some inserts that talk about 25 points of articulation (depending on your definition of articulation) and the accessories. The back of the box also shows an insert for 'Speciality Hunter Weapons' and you might be disappointed - perhaps rightly so - to find these arent all included in the City Hunter Set. In fact, the City Hunter only gets the wrist blades, the spear (now called a combi stick) and the Smart Disc. The electro claw comes with the Jungle Hunter and the Plasma Bazooka is with the Berserker. This is a little misleading. The box includes an inner cardboard section which creates a step up for the Predator and something of a display stand if you wish featuring a stone base, jungle foreground and a red thermal vision backdrop with the target. This is generic but doesn't really fit with the City Hunter. Out of the box you are presented with a weighty figure considering its very low price of just £9.99 here in the UK (about $10 in the US). The sculpt is probably reflective of the price but does a good job of the Predator helmet, the netted body and the armour. There is certainly dialling back of detail from say a NECA release, both in actual details and also in terms of making these kid-friendly by removing any body part trophies or more graphic elements of the Predator itself. The mask is not removable, and neither is any of the armour. The colours are more pronounced than the on-screen Predator, an element certainly carried over from the other Lanard lines. The figure may be advertised as 7-inch, but that is the actual size and not the scale. Effectively these are closest to 1/12 scale (6-inch) and I suspect these will see some customization and repainting among the fan community to sit in with lines like Marvel or GI Joe. There will be comparisons to NECA with these, and that is perhaps unfair considering the price. For a third of the price of a NECA Predator you get a perfectly serviceable and play-friendly Predator The accessories mentioned on the back of the box translate to an extended Predator Spear (they call it a Combistick) that fits into either or both hands. There is also a smart disc weapon that can be handheld, or that sits into a socket on the right thigh. The Plasma Cannon swivels partially where it plugs into the shoulder, but is very small compared to what we'd expect. The wrist blades also don't articulate in or out of the sheath. I calculate articulation on each individual joint and by my reckoning, these Lanard Predators have a total count of 13 joints starting with a ball joint neck joint that works really well despite the dreadlocks. The waist is also a ball joint, not just a rotation, so this adds to the waist that does not really move too much. The arms are better with shoulder joints that can raise up and outward from the body. The elbow joints are singular and pegged but can bend in some way allowing for posing with the weapons. The wrists will also then rotate within the forearms. Lower legs have a rudimentary hip and a single pegged knee joint. The ankle joints are the worst of the bunch, being a simple plugin rotating peg rather than a rocker or anything more complex. The figure remains easy enough to stand, but neutral posing is about the extent of its range from the lower legs. In summary, this is very much what it sets out to be, a kids toy aimed at pre-teens who know about the Predator world, but are still too young to watch it. For a tenner, they are great value and with the large and bright box, they do provide parents with a value for money aspect. I do worry about some of the joints over time, the smaller Aliens did have weaknesses with more robust play and these Predators may have similar issues. I do expect to start seeing creative repaints and customisations of these in the future, and it will be interesting to see how far the line goes - with the larger Alien figures also in the works to compliment the Predators for an AvP showdown. I took a quick look down the Toy aisle of B&M stores this weekend to see if there were any new arrivals. While my local store still has not had any stocks of the McFarlane Harry Potter figures seen elsewhere, there was a full shelf of McFarlane Cyberpunk 2077 figures at £12.99 each. The entire shelf at my store was the V figure, I suspect we won't find a Johnny Silverhand anywhere. The only other point of note was a reduction on the BST AXN figures from The Loyal Subjects. They were marked down to £5 from £10 and all I could find was the Cowboy Bebop figure. This is perhaps a negative in terms of B&M getting any of the future figures that will be more sought after like Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, or Lightning from Big Trouble in Little China. As non-essential retail opens up here in the UK, I took an albeit hesitant trip out with my son to see what was on the pegs in Smyths Toys. My local store had done some considerable moving around during lockdown, splitting up the Lego aisle from being adjacent to the action figures. I am going to assume this is around spreading customers around the store a bit more and splitting up the chokepoints. The Lanard 7-inch Predators have arrived, priced at £9.99 each ad packed in a pretty impressive window box for that price. The larger 12-inch version was also available at £19.99. It was glorious to see Masters of the Universe back on Toy shelves courtesy of Mattel with the new figures at £14.99 and the Battle Cat & Panthor at £24.99. Mattel were also holding a good presence via Jurassic World, and this included the brand new Apatosaurus at £49.99 While the Jazwares Fortnite section had shrunk considerably, the new AEW figures were taking a chunk out of the WWE section, priced at £19.99 each. Sadly Halo had gone the same way as Fortnite and lose out on-shelf real estate. The Star Wars area is growing ever so slowly and was full in my store with the Black Series Moff Gideon wave, priced at £19.99 while the earlier wave had been moved to the clearance bin, and yet remained priced at £19.99. We also had standard Vintage figures for £14.99 and some of the Carbonized Mandalorian figures at £16.99. The other new addition was the Retro Mandalorian figures, although Cara Dune had already been snaffled. NECA have put up an advance preorder for a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2-pack of Ace Duck and Mutagen Man from the 1990s animated Series. The pack features Ace Duck's wings and an extra head. He also comes with a VHS tape, film reel, service revolvers and his pilot cap. Mutagen Man comes with swap-out face options, tank, and weapon. The set can be ordered via the NECA store and there are options for both US orders and International options.
