When the first of the 1966 Batman 6-inch figures were unveiled by McFarlane in early summer, there were a couple of variants seen at a Shanghai toy show but not revealed. The first of these, the unmasked Batman, has now been officially confirmed and it will be a Target US exclusive. The figure features an unmasked Adam West head, the soft goods cape, and the clip-on comic book call-outs. Unmasked Batman is an October 3rd release in the US. Outside of America, the figure should be a general release via McFarlane stockists. The promotional image released by McFarlane for this release also gave us a first look at one of the wave 2 figures, The Riddler. Kapow! Todd McFarlane is celebrating NYCC 2021 with a new DC Multiverse Batman release. The Batman Year 2 figure is based on the Year 2 storyline from 1987 that included illustrations by Todd among other artists. The Year 2 Batman features two cape options, one soft good, and the other an enormous, Spawn-inspired, flowing cape. The figure then stands on a cemetery display base. There will be a standard version and a signature version, with the signature version including the art card signed by Todd McFarlane. Both versions are offered as Target exclusives and both sold out almost immediately, the signed version even before McFarlane had announced it on their social channels. International options will be more general, albeit limited in numbers so keep an eye on your preferred McFarlane stockist. After failing miserably to defeat the Reaper, Batman must consider fighting fire with fire, which unfortunately puts him at deadly odds with the Gotham City Police Department. Forced to then work with Joe Chill as a result, the man responsible for killing his parents, Batman must do what he can to put an end to the Reaper’s tyranny, even if it goes against his best interest. There will be a Gold Label Exclusive version of McFarlane's new 7-inch Avatar: The Last Airbender Zuko figure. The variant of the main release features a new helmeted head and an additional fireball effect piece. While the fire daggers look different too, this is most likely lighting in the promo pictures (although we could be wrong)> The Gold Label release is listed as a Target exclusive in the US with a 3rd of October release date. Target lists this as an NYCC release, tieing in with the early October convention. Outside of the US this should get a more general release with McFarlane stocklists. We can look forward to three S.H. Figuarts releases for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Up first is the Black & Red Upgrade suit carried forward from Far From Home. The release features web effects, alternative hands, and swap-out eye lenses for the head. We then have the new Integrate suit with Gold Accents, again featuring alternative hands and web effect parts. The final release is the new Black & Gold suit, which comes with web and blast effects, alternative hands, and the variant eye lenses. Todd McFarlane has posted a video on Instagram giving us a sneak peak at a brand new release in the DC Multiverse line, the Batmobeast from Batman: Dark Knight Metal. McFarlane are doing multiple scales with their new Avatar: The Last Airbender license, and we have already seen the 5-inch figures revealed and put up for pre-order. The new 7-inch collectors line has now been unveiled along with a 12-inch statue of Aang. The 7-inch line will feature Aang, who comes with his staff and Air Scooter. He is joined by Zuko who will feature a fireball effect and a pair of daggers. Both figures will feature the usual circular McFarlane base. Both Aang and Zuko are boxed general releases, and they have an October 2021 release date. Aang is the hero and spirit of the show. Super7 are on a roll at the moment with new Ultimates, their 7-inch collector-themed action figure line. Joining the lineup of franchises in 2022 is the one and only Spongebob Squarepants with two figures in the launch wave. Fans of the iconic 1994 movie The Crow can look forward to a new Mezco 6-inch figure of the title character as played by Brandon Lee. With the full trailer for The Eternals now released, the Marvel Legends from the movie have officially been unveiled via a Yahoo article that also covers the product reveals from Funko and Lego. We can look forward to a full Eternals 6-figure wave that features Sersi (Gemma Chan), Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), Sprite (Lia McHugh), Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani) and Druig (Barry Keoghan). Collecting all 6 will then allow you to build a Gilgamesh (Don Lee) figure. Ikaris (Richard Madden) we also believe to be part of this wave - although he does not come with a BAF part. There will then be two other standard releases, which are now confirmed exclusives. Thena (Angelina Jolie) will go to Target in the US and Ajak (Salma Hayek) over with Walmart. Both should get a Fan Channel release outside of the US, including via Hasbro Pulse. The line also gets a Deluxe release of what we assume is one of the movie's main bad guys - the deviant Kro. This is a general release available at all stockists. The main release figures and Kro are now live for pre-order as of the 1st of September 2021 at all major stockists as well as Hasbro Pulse. The figures are likely to arrive at some stage in October. As yet we have no pre-order details for the Walmart & Target exclusives - once they go up in the US we are likely to see the release of UK 'Fan Channel' pre-orders. Zaalbar, Revan's Wookiee companion in Knights of the Old Republic, was a surprise announcement for the Gaming Greats line - the Star Wars Black Series collection of Gaming figures. Zaalbar was number 4 in the Galaxy Collection packaging and follows on from the Jedi: Fallen Order Flametrooper. Like all the Galaxy Collection packaging, the Gaming Greats have a cohesive colour scheme of ice blue and a side artwork panel that lines up to a bigger montage with the figures on either side. The same artwork of Zaalbar is repeated on the reverse of the box along with the Knights of the Old Republic logo. To the side of this sits some brief background text, "You alone determine the destiny of the entire galaxy in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, featuring iconic Star Wars locations and original characters, like Zaalbar, a Wookiee who aids Revan in their quest" Zaalbar follows suit with most Gaming Greats figures and is heavily based on an existing figure, namely the body for all the Black Series Chewbacca figures released to date. The body is cast in a lighter brown to Chewie but lacks any real paint apps other than on the palms of the hands and the toes. The head is new and is a good representation of the in-game Zaalbar, but he still looks very much like Chewbacca - and if you threw on a bandoleer you would struggle to call him anything else. The differentiator is the chest strap which is an individual piece cast in red rubbery plastic. Zaalbar is armed with a bowcaster, using the same sculpt as Chewie's weapon. It comes in two parts and arrives heavily warped both across the main body and particularly the sights. There is also warping on the crossbow section, although the fit is now tighter where the two parts connect. Paint on the weapon includes a gold trim to the end of the crosspiece and some black on the handles. When not in use the bowcaster can be slung using a neat clip on the back of the chest straps. It is not overly obvious which bit of the bowcaster is meant to clip into place but I found the piece just next to the trigger is probably the most obvious and would allow Zaalbar to retrieve the slung weapon. Zaalbar also includes the very impressive sword, Bacca's Ceremonial Blade. This is a huge piece, as tall as a standard Black Series figure and well painted with a silver blade, red trim and gold handle. Articulation on Zaalbar is again the same as Chewbacca, and that means quite a bit of restriction around the neck and the arms with their singular joints held in with the fur sculpts. The legs work well enough for wider stances and action shots and the chest will move under the rubber straps for some more dynamic posing options. Before its announcement, I knew nothing about Zaalbar and he is a character I am exploring further thanks to the figure. Gaming Greats is a side-line in the Black Series that many will choose to skip, but I do enjoy adding these background characters and troopers to my collection for added variation. Zaalbar was never going to bring us a new Wookiee body, that wait will go on, and despite the new head sculpt this still looks a bit too much like Chewbacca with a new red strap. The bowcaster still disappoints with its bowed joints on arrival, but the Sword of Bracca is impressive. One for the purists and fans of Knights of the Old Republic, and not a big miss for those collectors focusing on mainline movies and TV.
