The trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is being shown as the final end credits scene after the screenings of Spiderman: No Way Home. The trailer gives us a look at some of the costumes & characters for next year's MCU outing for Stephen Strange and we now have the reveal of the Marvel Legends wave for the movie. The 7-figure wave will come with a new Doctor Strange from the Multiverse of Madness, and a revisit of the original movie from 2016 with an updated Astral Doctor Strange. Wong finally makes it into the MCU Legends line, and Mordo - now called Master Mordo - gets a new release. There is also a debut for the MCU America Chavez, but no Scarlet Witch surprisingly. The wave is rounded out with comic book characters of D'Spayre, as revealed at Hasbro Pulse Con 2021, and Dreamwalker. The Build-a-figure is Rintrah which was confirmed on the Hasbro Marvel Legends Fan First panel as being an MCU figure from Multiverse of Madness - so quite a big spoiler. There will also be a Deluxe Release for the movie with a Defender Strange figure in a new outfit (or is this a multiverse alternative Stephen Strange) complete with a sling-ring Portal - an accessory that we have been waiting for, especially since Endgame. The Hasbro Marvel Legends team Fan First Livestreams are always good value, and the December event was just as packed with new reveals and previews. As well as looking at the new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness figures (beware spoilers) there was a raft of new comic-book figures to look forward to in 2022. A deluxe Ulik for Walmart. And a new Ragnarok - who is up for pre-order already - at Target stores. Hasbro has revealed a 2nd Star Wars Vintage Collection Trooper 4-pack, this time featuring the Shoretroopers as seen in Rogue One and The Mandalorian. The boxes set includes a Shoretrooper Captain, Squad Leader and two Troopers. The set is open for preorder as of 9pm on the 17th December with a 2022 release date. Character Options have unveiled another new Doctor Who exclusive collectors set heading to B&M stores in the UK in early 2022. Joining the current batch of releases is a set featuring the 4th Doctor and the Robot from Tom Baker's debut story, Robot (1974). The pack re-releases the original Classic Dr. Who line build-a-figure, the Robot, and the original 4th Doctor from 2008. The Doctor features a solemn head with hat combination, a head not seen on this body before - although it has been used on other 4th Doctor outfits like the one from Genesis of the Daleks. The price on the set is TBC, but expected to be £19.99 like the other Doctor Who sets. It is due to land in mid-January 2022. A single remarkable new set will mark a year in which nine new lines have been delivered to B&M. The full details for the next Series of McFarlane's Disney Mirrorverse line of figures from the upcoming Disney mobile game have been released for pre-order ahead of a February 2022 release. As with Series 1, we have both 5=inch and 7-inch figures. And this time around we also have two new 12-inch statues. In this new larger scale (more statuette if other McFarlane 12-inch figures are to go by we have Wizard Mickey Mouse and an angry armoured Sulley. Mickey comes with his cane, with both figurines including a circular black base and art-card. The 7-inch line will see Jack Sparrow as a 'Fractured' variant repainted from his wave 1 release. Sparrow will be a Gold label release but does not appear to be exclusive to anywhere. He comes with a magic effect. He is joined by a new figure of The Genie from Aladin who is designed to slot onto a genie magic base. Both figures feature collectible art cards. In the 5-inch line, we will also have a 'Fractured' variant, this time of Sulley. And two new figures of Baloo from Tail Spin, and Donald Duck - Baloo comes with a plane propellor weapon, and Donald with some kind of axe weapon. These smaller figures still feature an art-card, but no base. They are packed onto blister cards. The enormous McFarlane DC Multiverse Batmobeast has been listed for pre-order, and a gallery of promotional imagery was released at the same time. Based on Dark Nights: Death Metal comic, the Batmobeast is listed as 17-inches long and 11-inches tall. The full body of the vehicle lifts off to accommodate 7-inch DC Multiverse figures. This week's Bring Home the Bounty reveals were all themed around the Star Wars Disney+ shows, with a new Bo Katan Kryze roleplay helmet from The Mandalorian, and the first figures in 3.75-inch scale announced for The Book of Boba Fett. Alien Resurrection, the 4th movie in the Alien series was the last of the movies to get the NECA treatment in their 7-inch line. After focusing on the first three movies for many years, 2019 saw Series 14 - the last full wave of the Aliens figures - dedicated to Resurrection. The wave included a Newborn Alien in deluxe packaging and two standard clamshell releases of Ripley 8 and the Resurrection Xenomorph. Like all the NECA Aliens figures based on an Alien movie, the packaging uses the movie logo as a header and features artwork inserted into the sides of the clamshell. Images of the figure and the other releases in the wave are shown on the reverse of the pack with a short synopsis of the movie. This short plot write-up doesn't read wholly accurately as it insinuates the Newborn escapes and is hunted by the crew when in actual fact it was the Resurrection Drones that escape and the Newborn is not factored into the story until the climax - an unusual error for NECA? "_TWO HUNDRED YEARS AFTER HER DEATH, MILITARY SCIENTISTS ON BOARD THE USM AURIGA ARE ATTEMPTING TO CLONE ELLEN RIPLEY IN ORDER TO EXTRACT THE XENOMORPH QUEEN EMBRYO THAT WAS IN HER BODY WHEN SHE DIED. AND ON THE EIGHTH ATTEMPT, THEY SUCCEED. CONTAMINATED WITH RIPLEY'S DNA, THE QUEEN GIVES BIRTH TO A GROTESQUE HUMAN/ALIEN HYBRID CALLED THE "NEWBORN," WHICH ESCAPES, FORCING THE CREW INTO A DESPERATE RACE TO DESTROY IT AND THE OTHER CLONED ALIENS BEFORE THE SHIP REACHES EARTH" NECA has always delivered excellent sculpts and an uncanny ability to replicate the original props and costumes of the Alien universe. The Resurrection Drone is the latest of these, utilising the existing Xenomorph body with adjustments to the dome and tail to match what we see on screen in the 1997 movie. The detailing is exceptional with plenty of texture built-in across the various body parts of the Xenomorph from the exposed rib cage to the 'piping' and muscles around the neck and stomach areas. The sinewy arms and legs end in vicious claws and the segmented tail works round to a knife-shaped point. While the Xenomorphs are predominantly one single colour, the paint applications to bring out the detail of the figure range from a deep wash to darken the sunken details to a wet look finish and dry brushing of a lighter brown to expose more of the alien physiology. There are no accessories included in the set and that makes sense considering the movie as not even an Alien Egg or Facehugger could have been added and context to the movie retained. Articulation is impressive across the Xenomorph with 24 points of movement including articulated fingers and toes. The jaw can be opened and closed with an inner jaw sitting in the mouth. This is a little tricky to extract on this version and I had some trouble in exposing it fully without the use of a small screwdriver to tease it forward. The tail is a rubber piece over a metal skeletal armature so it can be posed in multiple positions. The Resurrection Xenomorph can be posed standing - using the tail as the 3rd point of contact for balance or crouched or crawling although the head does not go far enough back for a swimming pose - something the Xeno's did for the first time on screen in Alien 4. NECA prices are increasing the most among action figure lines and that has left them harder to get and nearly twice as costly here in the UK as they were just 2-3 years ago. I missed out on this Series 14 release back in 2019 but have recently filled the gap in my Alien collection thanks to an independent stockist. The Resurrection Xeno won't be the last movie Alien we get from NECA but regardless of your feeling for the movie, it is one of the best looking to date up there with the AvP figures and the Ultimate Xenomorphs from Aliens. The Star Wars Publishing Wave was one of a number of specially packaged Star Wars Black Series figures released in 2021 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Lucasfilm. The four-figure wave gave us four figures based on Star Wars Books or Graphic Novels, including this release from the Crimson Empire series from Dark Horse Comics, as released in 1997. The character of Carnor Jax (Red & Black Armour) was chosen to represent the Crimson Empire, but the release is actually one of the few significant errors to date in the Black Series line as Hasbro has released the figure of Kir Karnos (Red Armour and Purple Cloak) instead. Once fans pointed out the error, Hasbro has acknowledged the mixup but was too far along in production to make any changes. The packaging for the Publishing wave is designed around the look of a book with a front cover carrying the original novel artwork, and a side spine with the character name and greyscale illustration. The opposite side, where the pages would be, uses further artwork from the graphic novel in grey lined art against the black box. The rear of the box is very text-heavy and headed by the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary timeline. "Commemorate the first 50 years of Lucasfilm with figures inspired by Star Wars books and comics!" The front cover then opens - held in check by a Velcro tab - to reveal the figure inside a more standard looing Black Series window box. On the inside of the cover, we have more Crimson Empire artwork and the Carnor Jax background text - which of course should really be for Kir Karnos. Carnor Jax Training himself in the ways of the dark side of the Force, Carnor Jax became one of the most formidable members of the Imperial Guard. He betrayed this brotherhood by usurping the Imperial throne The groundwork for the Crimson Empire characters of Kir Karnos and Carnor Jax was essentially laid in 2017 when Hasbro released the Imperial Royal Guard in the Black Series. The figure was dressed in the flowing red robes we see on screen in the Emperor's Throne Room, but Hasbro chose to give the guards a full sculpted set of Crimson Empire armour underneath adding an extra dimension to the guards. This means this Crimson Empire release is a direct re-use of the original Imperial Guard with tweaks to recreate the look of Kir Karnos. The armour is cast in red, with glossier red added to the armoured sections. The undersuit parts around the sides of the chest and the upper thighs in black - on the original Guards it was a deep red. This black panel is painted over the red on the chest section, but the thighs are cast in black with the red elements painted over - which does leave the red parts here looking dulled and the joins less than crisp. The soft-goods robes have been adjusted to a cape section which is lined in an extremely shiny purple material. Like the original, the soft goods flows well around the figure and it is fixed in place with the helmet, so it cannot be removed. The overall look of the figure is a good match to Kir Karnos and the Crimson Empire cover with little work needed from the original figure. It is worth stating that with the armour exposed on this release, a few more paint apps would have helped the figure massively particularly around the belt and the buckles and straps of the boots While only one weapon is seen in the box, Kir Karnos does come with both his twin-bladed weapon and an EC-17 hold-out blaster that arrives in his belt holster tied in with a small elastic band. The EC-17 has been in circulation for some time originating with the first Scout Trooper figure and is cast in black with little detail considering its small size. It is designed to fit in the figures left hand where the fingers are split into two pairs of two to fit either side of the weapons handle. The right hand was originally designed with a pointing finger as part of the sculpt to hold the original Imperial Guard weaponry against the figure's shoulder, and while it can hold the blaster the finger will stick out in a pointing motion. This issue with the right hand is also evident when using the twin-bladed staff and it would have been more helpful to swap the hands with those of the Scout Trooper to better hold both included weapons. The twin-blade itself is a new accessory for the Black Series and is a touch taller than the figure itself. It is cast in black and that colour is left unpainted on the central shaft. The two-bladed ends are then painted in a gunmetal silver The Imperial Guard body has 16 points of articulation although the final joint in the head is rendered useless due to the shape and design of the helmet. As an older body, the figure retains double-jointed knees allowing Kir Karnos to kneel and sit if you wish. The arms really need better elbows and perhaps butterfly shoulders for more dynamic posing with the blade. What we get is a little rigid with the elbows hitting 90 degrees only when bent, and the shoulder pauldrons blocking much of the shoulder movement. None of the joints presents as a major issue, but like a number of figures of that era, the ankle joints are looser than I would like and can lead to the figure toppling forward. The Publishing Wave is certainly more about the packaging than the figures, all of which are tweaks and repaints of existing bodies apart from Jaxxon. The glaring issue of the mixed-up names will always blight this set - and perhaps Hasbro might re-issue it one day with the right name and perhaps with an accompanying Carnor Jax. Out of the box and the figure does most of what it needs to although it is in need of some additional paint on the body and those hands really need to have been sorted to handle both included weapons. One for fans of the source material more than anything, and you can tell by the big discounting of this wave overall that it was not hugely successful and further waves are unlikely. The Hasbro Power Rangers brand team held a Livestream event this week, revealing new products for the Lightning Collection. In the 6-inch figure line we will be getting a Deluxe figure of Ecliptor from Power Rangers In Space, complete with sword, lightning effect, and alternative hands. Ecliptor is a general release at all stockists and will be a 2022 release - we will have to wait for the pre-order to go live. Also incoming in 2022 is the 1:144 scale Zord Ascension Project Dino Megazord we caught a first look at back at Hasbro Pulse Con in October. The Dino Megazord features all five of the classic Zords - T-Rex, Mastodon Triceratops, Sabre Tooth Tiger, and Pterodactyl. Each Zord features removable canopies to see the scaled Power Rangers in each cockpit. The Zords can then combine into the 11.5 inch tall Dino Megazord complete with sword, or into the alternative Tank Mode. There are also five individual poses Power Rangers figurines included with the set. The 'Zord Ascension Project' or ZAP for short is going to be a premium sub-line of the Lightning Collection and the promo blurb for the Dino Megazord indicate it is the first of more projects with a numbering system in place, and this release listed as MZ-101. The Dino Megazord will be released on the 1st of August 2022 and has an RRP of $165.99 in the US, £149.99 here in the UK.
