Released in late Summer 2021, the Infinity Sage collection of Marvel Legends figures revisited a number of movies from the first 3 phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe bringing us new characters in 6-inch format such as Odin & Quicksilver, but also revisiting figures that perhaps were not quite right the first time around. The Infinity War Captain America fits into that bracket as a makeover of an existing figure that wasn't received all that well when it was first released. The Infinity Saga packaging follows suit with the various iterations of sets released over Summer for the past few years, using a squared-off box like the First Ten Years and the 8t0H Anniversary sets. The front of the box leads with the Infinity Saga logo and character name, with the movie logo in the top left. The two side panels feature a montage of the MCU Infinity Saga heroes in a foil effect. Each side is a slightly different view of the same overall picture - but these do not expand into a wider montage (First Ten Years) as they are the same on every release. The back of the box includes the movie poster for Infinity War but goes into just a small amount of plot detail with the background text to the side "Armed with Wakandan Shields, Steve Rogers steps forward to defend the world from the impossible threat of Thanos and his minions" The figure is based on the Nomad version of Steve, as seen throughout Infinity War. The figure uses much of the original 2018 release but the overall paint job is a brighter blue and the arms are brand new and are presented with pinless joints. The paintwork is impressive across the figure with the red and white striping across the midriff and the red piping down the arms and legs. The upper body features two tones of brown across the shoulder straps and the belt, with silver buckles. The only criticism may be how clean the suit looks compared to the Steve we see on-screen having been in hiding since Civil War. The costume on the original 2018 figure was not particularly a problem, but rather the Chris Evans with beard head sculpt was considerably off compared to the other figures being released at the time and considering the use of the photo-real decor. The figure had essentially been put together off concept art and that had thrown the looks and this time round the likeness is much stronger as is the execution of the beard and the swept-back hair. We even get a second head that presents Steve with clenched teeth as seen when he battles Thanos towards the end of the scenes in Wakanda. Both heads are done well and they swap in and out easily enough. Another fix on this release is the Wakandan shield, with Steve now presented with the two shields of slightly different sizes - the original figure only got a single large shield. These are cast in grey plastic with silver panels painted into the intricate design. Each shield uses a handhold at the back that fits into Steve's gripping hands. This is not overly easy to do, and you will need a bit of patience and some maneuvering and bending of the fingers. You also get a spare pair of hands with a set of clenched fists for use on Steve so he can "do this all day". Like the head, these slot in and out securely and are robust enough not to offer a risk of breaking over time. As you swap the hands, you will find the wrist wraps are also a loose pieces and can come off. There is no real reason to do so on Cap, and the forearm underneath is unpainted blue plastic. Infinity War Steve has 21 points of articulation, with a couple of extra joints vs normal thanks to the boot cut which can be rotated under the knee. Cap has a good range of motion and stances available to him, with and without the shields. This includes kneeling poses as well as action stances and evening a running pose as he charges towards the Outriders (he may need a stand to help with this one). One thing I do like about this revisit from Hasbro is the inclusion of the two heads which are pretty much interchangeable on the old figure also. The costume colouring for me is better on the 2018 version although the neck peg is shorter so he can look a little hunched with the new heads in place. The neck pegs are also slightly different in size so the old figure can stretch the new head a touch so it becomes a bit loose over time. Two new McFarlane DC Multiverse figures have gone up on the Walmart US website. Up first is Hush as revealed earlier in the week from the Batman: Hush series. He will come packed with twin knives and a circular display base. He is joined by the Jonathan Kent Superman from DC Future State. This is a brand new figure that McFarlane are yet to reveal themselves using their usual teaser image format. He will feature alternative hands and a flight stand. Both figures will also include the collectible art card. The bandage-wrapped Hush is perhaps the closest to Bruce Wayne of all Batman’s enemies. Young Tommy Elliot was a childhood friend of Wayne, who also grew up in wealth and privilege. However, Tommy soon became deeply jealous and resented Bruce once his parents were tragically killed—seeing Bruce as getting the independence and wealth Tommy so desperately desired. Eventually becoming a surgeon, Tommy's resentment for Bruce continued to fester and grow over the years. When The Riddler discovered that Bruce is really Batman, he approached Dr. Elliot with the secret. But, when the two realized they shared a hatred for Wayne, they joined forces. Wrapping his face in bandages to hide his identity, Elliot manipulated many of Batman's greatest Super-Villains in a grand conspiracy to defeat him—hence, his chosen identity of “Hush.” After his father, the first Superman, is exiled from Earth, Jon takes on the symbol of hope to become the Man of Steel. Hasbro have released a number of movie figure sets over the last four summers, starting with the First 10 Years figures in 2018, followed by the 80th Anniversary in 2019, and the X-Men Movie figures in 2020. 2021 see's the team celebrate the entirety of the Infinity Saga and bring us 10 new sets and a selection of new and refreshed figures to enhance our MCU collection. The biggest figure in the series is Surtur, the fire demon as seen in Thor: Ragnarok from 2017. He arrives in an oversized version of the Infinity Saga packaging that carries the Saga logo under the window with the character name in a blue panel underneath. The movie logo on which the set is based then sits at the top left, next to the Marvel Legends logo. The two side spines are made up of a montage of the Infinity Saga in an ethereal foil blue design. The side panels are identical on all of the sets, so there is no wider design to build here like we had with the Ten Year sets. Like the previous MCU sets, the box carries a recreation of the original movie poster on the back of the box, although the write-up synopsis is slimmed down and similar to the couple of sentences we see on the usual Legends releases. "Empowered by the Eternal Flame, the demon Surtur rises from the ashes to unleash his fury upon Asgard" Out of the box, Surtur is a beast and stands 13-inches tall. He is predominantly cast in translucent orange plastic that is then painted over with darker black to create a burnt look across the body recreating the burning and smoldering body we see in the film. The head features the large crown, that is cast in a darker red translucent plastic. It does not come off the figure, that would have been a cool feature for the set. The eyes are painted a glowing orange and the open mouth is well detailed with individually sculpted teeth. There are some additional flame parts in translucent yellow that have been integrated into the body for more of a fiery appearance. These sit on the shoulders and arms. Surtur arrives with two gripping hands which are used to wield his enormous blood-red sword that stands well over 11 inches tall itself. It features a similar translucent base plastic as the body with the blade and skeletal hilt painted over in a darker red. It fits neatly in either hand and the articulation also allows for two-handed posing. You also get a couple of alternative hands for Surtur, a clenched fist for the left wrist, and an open hand for the right. Despite his size, Surtur weighs in with the same 19 points of articulation as a standard figure. All the joints are tight and secure, with ratchets in key points like the ankles, knees, and arms. The ankles are the weaker of the joints and you do need to be careful with posing as the sword and arms can overbalance the figure which will push the ankles to pivot forward. The figure remains stable in most poses and can even hold up another figure in his open hand as seen in the image below with Thor. The only other issue notable with the articulation is the shoulders which cant raise up too well due to the sculpting on the arms. It doesn't pose a huge issue but you won't be getting an arm out straight from the shoulder. For those who have a diorama pose in mind for Surtur, the leg articulation seems to be sufficient for a seated position if you have a scratch built throne in mind At circa £50, Surtur represents the same level of plastic as two new Marvel Legends figures and is certainly a showcase figure for your display and is the biggest MCU character released to date. While he is not necessarily completely in scale with what we see in his Ragnarok scenes, Hasbro has pushed the height enough to exceed what we may have got as a BAF and made a statement piece without breaking the bank with a HasLab type price tag. Let's hope this format is one they continue to explore to bring us even bigger and badder Marvel Legends. Avengers: Age of Ultron was the first opportunity for the Marvel Legends team to bring us the original MCU Avengers in their relatively new Infinite Series relaunch of the Legends line. Across a wave of figures and an exclusive box set we could assemble our core 6 Avengers, but not the two new additions in the movie - Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. While Wanda would go on to get her own figure for Civil War, Quicksilver would be a gap in the collection. The annual revisit of certain movies overlooked Pietro for both the First Ten Years series and the 80th Anniversary, it would take until 2021 and the Infinity Saga releases for Quicksilver to finally make it to the Legends format. Like the other Infinity Saga figures, Quicksilver is packed in a squared-off black package with a front window, beneath which sits the Infinity Saga logo and character nameplate. At the top of the window, we have the movie logo and then the two sides are decorated in a foiled montage of key characters from the first three phases of the MCU. These two panels are slightly different views of the same wider piece and are the same on every release. On the back of the box is the movie poster for Age of Ultron, next to this is the briefest of background texts that reads:- "Quicksilver's ultra-high-speed capabilities are a major asset to the Avengers in the fight against Ultron." Quicksilver is a full new sculpt in the Legends series and replicates his look at the end of the movie when he gears up to work with the Avengers to defend Sokovia from Ultron. This is realised as a textured sports shirt cast in grey with blue and silver pattern designs applied as paintwork. The trousers are a dark grey, cast in the base colour, and with no paint application despite the inclusion within the sculpt of some chevron patterning down the thigh sections. The costume is finished in a pair of grey trainers with bright green soles. All of this is, as you would expect, accurate to the movie as Hasbro have had plenty of reference info considering this is a 6-year old movie by this point. The build and physique for Quicksilver are also accurate. The paintwork is messy in places, and on my review figure, I had spots of the darker blue trim across the grey of the shirt. The trainer soles too are not a uniform coverage and have bled onto the sides of the trainers. The head sculpt for Quicksilver has been a point of contention since it was announced, and it is one of those figures that arguably looks better in hand than on the promo images. The likeness to Aaron Taylor Johnson is ok, without being mind-blowing. While the general features are good, the head is let down by the deco. While photo-real printing has been used, the use is more generic and doesn't include the darker rings around Quicjsilvers eyes, the darker sideburns, and rather than a few days stubble he has been given a neat five o'clock shadow. The hair is the worse element as it is sloppily painted with a dark base and contrasting off-white over the top. Pietro's hair colouring is subtler than this and needed to be sculpted with finer strands and treated with more variation from the roots to the almost white straggled hair we see during the final Sokovia scenes. Quicksilver arrives with a pair of gloves clenched fist hands which can be swapped out for a second pair which I assume are designed for running poses. These alternatives are odd in terms of posing with each of the hands looking like he is imitating a gun with two fingers outstretched. I may be missing something here (let me know if I am) but in most of the running scenes, we see during Age of Ultron there is a very simple open hand gesture which is what we really needed. In terms of his superpowers, Quicksilver does not lend himself to accessories, weapons, or even powered effects. Ideally, he should have followed a similar format to Odin with an additional head sculpt, and could have done with - as mentioned above - a better selection of alternative hands. What we actually get is quite odd in that Quicksilver is packed with three broken parts of an Ultron Sentry. We have a chest section, an arm, and a head with the spinal cord still attached. These are very detailed considering they are background pieces and are cast in silver with paintwork added to add depth to the machinery and weathering to enhance the damaged look. Quicksilver cannot hold any of these pieces, nor can they be positioned anywhere other than on the floor as diorama pieces. They feel disjointed and add little value to the set and will end up in a bits box most likely. Considering Hasbro went to the trouble of sculpting what is essentially half of an Ultron Sentry - my preference would have been to move this to a two-pack with an articulated Sentry, even a limited articulated one with breakaway parts - even the crawling legless Sentry we see in one scene would have been a big step up on what we get. Articulation for a character whose whole power is built on running was always going to be key and thankfully Quicksilver does deliver on that part. We have 19 points of articulation in total across a fully pinless body which of course allows aesthetic enhancements without sacrificing posing. The arms and legs are unencumbered by any robes or armour and are free for full movement for sitting, crouching and running. You will need a foot stand for the more dynamic sprinting poses and thankfully a lot of the aftermarket clear stands fit snugly enough in the footpeg hole to keep him posed with the weight essentially on one leg. The joints are all stable enough o hold that running position although over time the hips may loosen as they are the only lower-limb joint without a ratchet motion. Quicksilver is a character who I have certainly missed in my MCU display for as long as I have personally collected Legends (circa 2017) and once again I applaud Hasbro for not just focusing on future projects but looking back regularly enough to fill in gaps in our Cinematic Universe collections. Out of the entirety of the Infinity Series, he was perhaps my most wanted but is perhaps the weakest in terms of execution. The body and costume are great, but the paintwork is sloppy and the head does not live up to the standards the Legends series has set recently with likenesses especially when we consider the other Infinity Saga sculpts like Happy, Odin, Stand, and Iron-Man himself. The accessory choice is also strange, but I guess I am nitpicking around the Ultron Sentry parts as Hasbro could have simply excluded them and sold us a Quicksilver with a spare pair of hands at the same £25+ price point. This is likely the best we will get for Pietro Maximoff unless he makes a dramatic MCU return, and does fill in the Age of Ultron lineup - if only they'd consider a Wanda from the same movie to round it out? As The Batman arrives at movie theatres worldwide, the merchandise is ramping up and the latest reveal is the Mezco One:12 Collective figure of Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader. The 6-inch figure will come with a fitted armoured bat suit as well as a wired cape. There are three head sculpts, including an unmasked version, and a cowl that can be held when Batman is unmasked. There is the usual hefty selection of hands including those posed as throwing Batarangs. Other accessories include a sticky bomb launcher and cartridges, flares, UV lights, adrenaline pens and handcuffs. There are four Battarangs and four versions of the Grapple gun in various stages. The set is finished off with the inclusion of a removable wingsuit piece. The Batman is now live for pre-order and will ship between February and April 2023 so there is a year or more to wait until you can add this newest Bruce Wayne to your collection. “When that light hits the sky, it's not just a call. It's a warning.” Vengeance joins the One:12 Collective! The Batman is outfitted in a screen-accurate armored Batsuit with chest insignia. The costume features an integrated posing wire in the cape, utility belt, a thigh pouch, and two vambrace. McFarlane's two new Speedster releases have gone up for pre-order. The Flash is taken from Season 7 of the CW series and he will feature a speed force effect. Godspeed is comic-based from DC Rebirth and features two speed force effects that wrap his forearms. Both figures will be general releases and are packed, as usual, with circular display bases and the collectible art card. Expect both figures to land in May 2022. In the seventh season of the hit CW show, we find Mirror Master escaping from the Mirror-verse, the Speed force is destroyed, other, new forces, are unleashed upon Central City and Godspeed is back, using Speed clones to help him destroy Barry Allen. With a new “Team Flash,” Barry must navigate the incredible threats, all while looking for his wife Iris, and dealing with his speedster children from the future! This item was provided to us free of charge by Hasbro UK for review purposes. Released in Winter 2021, the Re-Armored Boba Fett Electronic Helmet was the latest in the 1:1 scaled Star Wars Helmet Collection, released under the Black Series banner. It took the existing Fett helmet from 2020 and gave it a decor update - much like Boba himself in the Mandalorian Season 2 when he recovered his armour and gave it a crisp new paint job. The helmet comes in an enclosed box packaging that mimics the Galaxy Collection packs for the figures by cutting off one corner to create an angled panel in which we get a grey scaled image of Boba Fett. The same colour accent is used with a dark umber theme running around the box and on the text that identifies the helmet and some key features. It opens via the top flap with a few pieces of tape to be negotiated first. Inside is a shaped brown cardboard interior and the helmet itself is wrapped in waxy paper to keep the paintwork protected in transit. Batteries (1 x AAA) are not included and ensure you pick up the instructions which are floating around the inner packaging. The helmet is proportioned to mirror that which we see on screen in The Mandalorian and is painted in the same way with a matt finish throughout. The dent is included on the top of the brow section and around this and other edges of the helmet we have some scratches and weathering built in to the decor to recreate the exposing of the Beskar beneath. There are clear markings around the rim in an orange paint - applied as though done by hand so with slightly rough edges. Further smaller symbols are applied, possibly as a decal, on either side of the helmet. Applied over the paintwork, and used sparingly but effectively, is a weathered brown application that dirties it up enough to look screen accurate without The first job upon unpacking is to get a battery in situ. The battery compartment is not obvious and is engineered so as not to ruin the aesthetics of the helmet. After being a typical bloke and searching for it in vain, I went back and dug out the instructions to find it was behind a clip off-panel under the sight finder. You may need a flat-edged screwdriver to pop this off if you can't get a nail under it, but watch out for scratching the paintwork on either side. These role-playing helmets are often described as 1:1 scale but designed for children, in the case of these Black Series helmets they are definitely full adult size once out of the box. They are fitted internally with an adjustable strap set up to fit an adult head shape with the ability to lengthen or shorten the straps to create the best fit. Once the straps are configured to your head then the helmet sits in place securely without the need for a chin strap or anything. You can see through the visor which is translucent grey plastic, it just darkens the area you are in slightly like a pair of sunglasses. The sight finder on the side works on a spring that is clipped into place and is released when you press a panel on the side of the helmet. As it comes down into place the two front red LED's light up and blinks, while on the reverse a targeting screen lights up. This can be seen from within the helmet, but not directly in your line of sight. Unlike some of the Stormtrooper helmets, there are no sound FX features built-in. These helmets are not cheap at circa £120-£135 each depending on the features. While they perhaps lack the higher end finish of true cosplay they are realistic enough for a DIY costume. Their real beauty is as a display piece and therefore perhaps the only element missing from the box is a display stand of sorts which Hasbro has included on other helmet releases such as Power Rangers. That being said it stands perfectly well on its own on a flat surface, and there are plenty of options on the secondary market including cheap options like a kitchen roll holder, to bespoke stands for shelf and wall mounting. The next Disney+ Marvel Legends Wave is, as we know, going to see the release of both Hawkeye and Kate Bishop from the Disney+ show and will also feature Infinity Ultron from the finale of What If? Season 1 as the Build-a-figure. Both Hawkeye and Kate opened up for pre-order as of the 8th of March, although there were no new images and they remain as the digital renders we saw when they were announced. We do now know this is a 7-figure wave - so there are 5 more slot to fill, with one of them fairly certain to be Moonknight. They are also not slated for release until March 2023 at the earliest. NECA marked International Women's Day with a selection of images of their upcoming female action figure releases such as Elvira and April O'Neil. Included in the gallery were some teasers for future releases including starting with what we assume is Greta in her Wedding Dress from Gremlins 2 and April O'Neil as the Bride of Frankenstein from the TMNT X Universal Monsters crossover.
