From the Return of Superman comes this Medicom MAFEX 6-inch figure of Steel, complete with three head portraits and a soft goods cape. Also included are his hammer and a pair of blast effects to attach to his feet for flight poses. Steel is number 181 in the MAFEX line, and he will be a March/April 2023 release.

Unveiled by Medicom for the MAFEX 6-inch figure line is this Marvel Comics classic look for The Mighty Thor. The release will feature two head options for Thor and a soft good cloak. He will also come with alternative hands, including four sculpted already holding Mjolnir in various poses - these then slot into the head of the Mjolnir included. A second spinning effect Mjolnir is also included as is a display stand. The Mighty Thor is number 182 in the MAFEX series and will be a March/April 2023 release.

A trio of new McFarlane Mortal Kombat 7-inch figures have been listed for pre-order at Big Bad Toy Store. They include the 7-inch version of Commando Spawn, a new version of Baraka, and the recently previewed figure of Nightwolf. The Commando Spawn in Dark Ages skin is taken from his Mortal Kombat 11 appearance and he features a pair of Necroplasm effect pieces that attach to his hands. Baraka is a tweak of the existing figure from 2020, now updated to his Tarkatan General skin from MK11. He features removable Tarkatan wrist blades and a brain accessory that can be skewered onto the blades. Nightwolf is a new character in the series and is also based on Mk11 and his Lone Wolf skin. Diamond Select Toys have announced re-releases for their Marvel Select movie figures of Doctor Strange and Loki. Doctor Strange is taken from the first movie in 2016 and comes with a Sanctum Sanctorum diorama base. Loki dates back further to the original Thor movie in 2011 and will include his ceremonial staff. Originally Loki also featured half of the Bi-Frost Bridge chamber, with the other part coming with Thor. It seems this is not included in the repacked figure. Announced via Comicbook.com is this new Diamond Select Toys 7-inch figure of Kato from The Green Hornet. It seems the Select format is being rebranded as 'Deluxe' figures and Kato is the first of these from the 1960's iconic TV series. From the three shared images, we can see Kato includes his staff, what appears to be a throwing dart, and it appears there are two head options - one with a cap and one without - the heads look slightly different in terms of it being a removable cap. The next wave of the McFarlane Warhammer 40k figures will see a return to the Space Marines after the recent Ork and Genestealer releases. The wave will see the first Dark Angels marine as well as the first Chaos Space Marine in the line. As is now standard, the wave features two painted figures as well as two unpainted 'Artists Proof'. For the Dark Angels we have an Assault Intercessor Sergeant, armed with plasma pistol and chainsword. The unpainted Artists Proof is of a standard Dark Angels Intercessor Marine with Bolter. I hope this one also gets a painted release as the sculpt looks great with the Dark Angels iconography. "The Dark Angels are a dour brotherhood, characterised by their deep commitment to millennia-old rituals, loyalty, discipline, and self-sufficiency. They are a fighting force whose allegiance to the Emperor and his Imperium is nigh impossible to dispute, yet few call them friends, and none know much of them thanks to their determined reclusiveness." The Chaos Legions are now getting some McFarlane support with the first Chaos Space Marines in the line. The painted release is listed on the box simply as a Chaos Space Marine, considering the specifics used on the other releases it would have been good to acknowledge this as a Black Legion Chaos Marine as indicated by the black and gold armour. He is armed with a bolt pistol with bayonet and a knife. The artists proof is arguably the more impressive figure as it features a spiked shoulder armour piece, skull-shaped backpack, unmasked and twisted head, and is armed with a plasma pistol and a power mace. Again, I do hope this gets a painted release in the near future. "Not even the Space Marines are safe from the lure of Chaos. The April Fan First Livestream for Marvel Legends took place on the 19th of April 2022, just 24-hrs after the release of the Thor: Love & Thunder teaser trailer and the press release of the Hasbro Marvel Legends product launch for the movie. The Marvel Legends team of Dwight, Dan, and Ryan talked over these new MCU releases and showed off the initial samples. The Infinity Ultron wave from the Disney+ wave was discussed with a look at the four announced figures of Moon Knight, Mr. Knight, Hawkeye, and Kate Bishop including packaged samples. As specified ahead of the event, there were no details on any Spider-Man: No Way Home figures other than the confirmation that 2023 will see a release of the three Spider-men from No Way Home. They did have however have a new MCU Spider-Man figure to reveal, and it is the owner of the backpack teased on the last Livestream. A new 'civilian' Peter Parker from Spider-Man: Homecoming will see Holland's Peter Parker in his school attire and he will come with two heads, alternative hands, a backpack, and a school book. Peter will be joined by the first Ned figure in the MCU line. Ned will also include a backpack and an alternative Spider-Man masked head. This set is a December 2022 general release with pre-orders as of the 20th of April. The Core Class of the Hasbro Transformers Studio Series is a new size for the line, the smallest of the series to date and retailing around £13 at UK retailers. It allows the Hasbro team to bring in the smaller end of the Transformers movie universe - and Ravage is a perfect example of this. The Core Class boxes are much smaller than the standard series with a larger hanging tab that carries the character artwork. The same red and sky blue colour tones are used across the box and the same format is used on the rear of the box to show Ravage in robot and transformed mode. The Core Class are not numbered and they do not have the full internal plinth and diorama backdrop, instead, they come tied onto a single inserted card back complete with a backdrop image of Cybertron. Ravage is taken from the Transformers: Bumblebee movie and the short sequence at the start where the factions are battling on Cybertron. Ravage arrives in robot mode and is very detailed considering his diminutive size at just 1.5 inches tall and measuring 3.25 inches from tail to snout. The bulk of the body is cast in two grey colours, one dark gunmetal in finish and another lighter colour on the legs and tail. The decor is added in panels of red and white panels across the top part of the body and onto the head. Ravage is articulated at the neck and tail, and at three points on each leg for a good variety of poses including general stances and more dynamic 'stalking' or 'howling' positions. We even get a joint at the jaw so the mouth can be open or closed. Ravage has some added parts & weaponry to bulk out the body. These include a missile launcher array that sits on his shoulder section behind the head. There are then two simple grey blasters sitting into a socket on each side of the hind legs. And finally, a larger missile piece that connects to a socket on Ravage's underbelly. While these do bulk out the body and make him look more formidable, I feel I am happier with the sleeker stripped-down look for display - perhaps just with the missile launcher piece added? In the 1980s Ravage was one of the two mini-cassettes that came with Soundwave and that slotted into his chest piece. Hasbro has taken the decision to split these two up this time around in the Studio Series and Ravage converts not so much into a cassette, but more a compact folded mode to sit into the cavity included on Soundwave. The transformation is easy enough for the Studio Series with just 11 steps. You are left with a block onto which you can still connect the blasters and missile as directed so Ravage has all his parts with him when he docks with Soundwave. While the transforming is easy enough, I found getting Ravage into Soundwave's chest really difficult. The fit is so tight you have to get the leg folds just right on Ravage to fold him sufficiently into a rectangle that he fits into Soundwave - and then there is a bit of teasing needed to get him all the way back so the door closes. Once inside he does look at the business and as per the short sequence that we do see on screen. Getting Ravage back out of the chest piece is also difficult as there is room to get a grip, a combination of gravity (tipping Soundwave over) and wiggling are your friend - I did think the release button may also act a spring to push Ravage forward and 'eject' him, which would have been a cool feature, but sadly not. The final interaction between Ravage and Soundwave comes via the rocket piece on Ravage which is designed to slot into Soundwave's cannon. Ravage as an individual piece feels slightly overpriced when you look at similar-sized 'pocket money' transformers coming in at under £10. He also feels like a piece that should have been included with Soundwave and not sold separately - even if that meant an increase in the pack size and price for Soundwave. I guess this way does offer some choice for the collector, not increasing the price too much for those who are not really in need of a Ravage to display inside or alongside their Soundwave. This figure was kindly sent over to us to review courtesy of Hasbro UK Soundwave, as seen in the Transformers: Bumblebee movie was released in late 2021 as part of the Studio Series. He is a Voyager Class figure and is number 83 in the Studio Series line. Soundwave arrives in the usual black packaging with red and sky blue highlighted colour scheme and sporting the Bumblebee movie in the top left of the box. Round the back of the box, we have details of the Transformation from the Robot form as packaged into the futuristic tank model seen in Bumblebee during the early Cybertron scenes. Inside the box we have Soundwave tied, via elasticated ties, into a backing card with a Cybertron backdrop. Behind this is the unpunched stand as seen on all Studio Series figures with a red plinth complete with movie logo, side panels, and the three-sided diorama backdrop. As per the movie, the Robot form for Soundwave is routed in the original G1 Transformers. He stands a shade under 7 inches tall and is cast in the usual hard plastic in the base colour for each element of his body. The head and main torso, shoulders and lower legs are in blue while the lower arms and upper legs are a white colour. Paint apps are minimal with the red visor on the helmet as well as a silver mask section. There are then smaller trims around the arms and legs in red or gold and a further gold border around the chest section which also carries the Decepticon logo on the clear plastic window. All the connecting jointed pieces are cast in a gunmetal grey as are the hands. Soundwave is articulated at all the major joints, 17 points in total, allowing a few posing options. The joints also double up as part of the Transforming process and therefore are a little looser than you would find on a standard action figure. The joints will all hold a pose well enough and support Soundwave fully without any balance issues once posed. Soundwave's chest cavity opens up, as per the original 1980's toy, by way of a spring-loaded button just above the chest section on the left-hand side near the shoulder. Inside is coloured blue as per the rest of the main body with some decor added in grey and gold across the back wall of the cavity. Soundwave is armed with his shoulder cannon which is a cast blue hard plastic piece designed to slot into a socket on the rear of the figure. It can be fitted in either the right or left socket and pivots on the arm so the cannon can be raised or lowered. A further hand blaster weapon, cast in the same gunmetal grey as the joints, is designed to sit into Soundwave's gripping hands - either right or left The Transformation process is 29 steps in total as laid out in the fold-out two-tone leaflet included in the set. As an older gentleman, I still find these hard to follow particularly without the reference of colour or larger images - but there are plenty of more knowledgeable people out there with useful reference materials and videos if you are struggling. The vehicle mode is perhaps not as exciting as a car or a plane, and I do struggle with the overall aesthetics when my head is still expecting Soundwave to transform into a Cassette player. The movie doesn't show the transformed mode for Soundwave so it's difficult to warm to the Tank mode without a visual reference. As per the movie, and as detailed in the instructions, Soundwave does combine with the new Core Class release of Ravage so check out our Ravage review to see the two together. The Studio Series Soundwave is a nice nod to the original 80's Transformers I know so well while also fitting in with the scale and looks of the movie Studio Series line. Soundwave looks great in robot mode and while I am not a huge fan of the vehicle mode, the transformation is quite neat once you've got your head around the instructions.
