The Doctor Who 10th Doctor Collectors Set was released in late August 2022 and was part of the Exclusive B&M Stores Sets for 2022. It features three versions of David Tennant's 10th Doctor, all packed into the usual B&M 3-pack box complete with TARDIS blue box art and the gold foil 'Limited Edition' sticker. Up first is the 10th Doctor in blue suit. This uses the original 2006 David Tennant figure mold and head rather than take advantage of the improved 2010 head sculpt. The rear of the box promises updated shoulder articulation, but this has not materialised on the figure due to an error at Character when creating the box blurb. The blue of the suit is crisp and bright and as seen in Series 3. Also taken from Series 3 is the blue suited look with the brown overcoat. Again the 2006 figure is used as a base and the articulation remains as it was when the figure first graced store shelves. Again, the blue of the suit is impressive and an improvement on the previously released Series 3 suited Doctor. The final figure uses the 2010 'Raggedy' 11th Doctor body but with the addition of the 2006 10th Doctor Head - the third use of this head in the set. The rear blurb attributes this look for the 10th Doctor to the Comic Adventures rather than any onscreen appearance. The figure works as the boy shape of the Raggedy Doctor was always closer to Tennant than it was to Matt Smith's proportions and you can imagine the 10th Doctor taking off his jacket and rolling up his sleeves during some adventure or other. The weathering on the figure is also impressive on top of the usual base paint colour pallet. The 10th Doctor Collectors Set was priced at £21.99 at launch, equating to £7.33 per figure. Compared to previous B&M 3-packs, the set feels a bit lacklustre, especially when we were promised updated articulation and when a better Tennant head sculpt exists, but was not used. Like most B&M sets, there are no accessories either - not even a single sonic screwdriver for the three of them to share. The set was a shelf-warmer for quite a while and was reduced to £16.99 in late 2022, but it soon found its market when the 13th Doctor materialised into David Tennant's 14th Doctor and proceeded on selling out quite soon after at most B&M stores. Revealed by cbr.com the Marvel Legends Squadron Supreme 2-Pack features new 6-inch scale figures of Hyperion and Doctor Spectrum. The set will feature Doctor Spectrum's Power Prism Gem and Blast Effects as well as what looks like a pair of alternative hands for both characters. The set will be listed for pre-order at some point in Spring 2023 so is likely a Summer 2023 release. There is no exclusivity mentioned in the CBR article - so this is likely either a General or Fan Channel release via Hasbro Pulse and Specialist Stockists. The US RRP is listed as $49.99. NECA's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mirage Comics figure of 'Battle-Damaged' Shredder was listed earlier today on the Walmart website in the US. The listing gave us some clearer looks at the figure after it was initially revealed in December 2022 on the NECA 12 Downloads of Christmas poster for TMNT figures. The listing has since been taken down, but we can see from the images that Shredder will come with both masked and unmasked head, alternative hands, Ooze canister, and an additional piece of Shredder's armour. The Character Toys Exclusive 'The Regeneration' Box Set was announced in November 2022, shortly after the conclusion to Jodie Whitaker's 13th Doctor era came to a close. The set would feature a new version of the 13th Doctor in her 'multiple Doctors' outfit. She would be joined by the first figure of David Tennant's new 14th Doctor in his blue coat and brown suit. The set is only sold via Character Toys and it was released and shipped to collectors in late January 2023. At the time of writing, there are stocks left, priced at £29.99 including free UK delivery. The set arrives in an outer brown cardboard box which will help protect the set in transit. The packaging takes a new direction in line with the design from the BBC for Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary in 2023. The figures come in a white closed box with a very simplified and striking design using some diamond line art and the new deep blue Doctor Who logo. The figure set name sits in a cut-out orange panel - and the front flap can then be opened to reveal the figures within. The front flap is not secured by Velcro as we see with the NECA and Star Wars figures that use a similar packaging format. That does mean the front flap will not stay closed on its own, although it is fair to say if you are keeping and displaying this box you will likely want this front cover open. On the inner side of the cover is a short write-up for the two Doctor's included which doesn't go into massive detail and feels just right in terms of positioning the characters vs some of the lengthier write-ups we have seen on other sets. The figures are presented against an orange Regeneration Energy backdrop that provides a stark contrast to the minimalist white of the packaging. While other companies are moving to a plastic-free packaging format, the set still uses a plastic window and a plastic inner tray into which the figures are secured with white cotton ties. This decision does detract from the presentation of the figures and seems unnecessary for a set that is not sold in retail and therefore not at risk of theft. The 13th Doctor uses the existing head sculpt, which is a good likeness to Jodie Whitaker albeit within the basic presentation of the Who range which remains consistent with the figures first released in 2006. The body is all new and features some exquisite detail such as the striping on Tom Baker's scarf, the question marks on the Slyvester McCoy jumper, and the Peter Davison stick of Celery. The painting quality overall is great, with just a couple of rough areas around the white cuff of the coat sleeves, and the collar of the shirt The 14th Doctor is a brand new figure and sports a new head sculpt, which didn't look overly flattering in some of the promo shots for the set. I am pleased to say it is better in hand, although the forehead is a little elongated and the arms also look a bit too long, although that is due to the legs being longer and the torso shorter than the previous 10th Doctor figures and this throws the proportions slightly. The Doctor is wearing a new blue long coat which has a lovely texture to it and painted buttons. Under this is a partly buttoned suit jacket with a ruffled shirt underneath and a new grey tie. The suit features a checkered design which is well painted - as are the Converse two-tone shoes. The articulation on the 13th Doctor includes the ball joint neck carried forward from the earlier 13 Doctor figures, giving her some more range in head positions. After that, both figures have the standard set of joints with visible pins at the elbows and knees although the latter is hidden by the coats on both figures. David's 14th Doctor does get the updated shoulder articulation (as promised, but not delivered on the recent 10th Doctor B&M Set). This allows the arms to be moved out from the body as well as rotating around the shoulder pin. The 13th Doctor has a couple of problems sadly. On our figure, we had loose bicep joints, and her right leg is longer than the left, making it difficult for her to stand without looking a little lopsided. At £29.99 the Regeneration Set offers pretty decent value for money at a time when we are seeing prices of £50 for slightly larger 6-inch figure 2-packs. It is worth stating that there are big variances between the Character figures and lines like Star Wars Black Series or Marvel Legends with the Doctor Who figure offering a much more basic set of articulation and simplified paint applications as opposed to photo-real printing. However, as a long-term collector of figures since 2006 I am very pleased that the 2023 figures still have the same look as the original 2006 figures and don't look out of place on display. I would have liked for the Doctors to come with Sonic Screwdrivers, but I appreciate that a Sonic for the 14th Doctor might have been considered a spoiler at this stage. The set is likely to be a sought-after piece once the run is exhausted at Character, and the popularity of the David Tennant 14th Doctor will drive the desirability of the set - as seen in how quickly the B&M 10th Doctor Set disappeared off shelves once the Regeneration had aired. There is another Marvel Legends comic book Guardians of the Galaxy figure incoming - joining the recently announced Walmart Exclusive figure of Star-Lord. The new Yondu Guardians of the Galaxy figure will also be an exclusive, sold via Target. Yondu comes with his bow, quiver ad yaka arrow. The set is due to open for pre-order sometime in Spring 2023. This will be via the Target website in the US, and we assume via the Fan Channel in the UK and elsewhere globally. Yondu is likely to be a Summer 2023 release. Medicom are returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier for their next two MAFEX releases. Captain America is getting a release in his Stealth Suit from the 2014 movie and he will come with three head options, alternative hands, a removed helmet accessory, and both the regular and stealth versions of his shield. He is joined by a Winter Soldier MAFEX figure, also featuring three head options and alternative hands. Bucky is armed with three knives and also comes with a Captain America Shield. Both figures will come with the usual display stand, Stealth Cap is number 202 in the MAFEX line, with the Winter Solider as number 203. You will have quite a wait on these, with a release date listed in the 1st Quarter of 2024. Captain America once again joins the MAFEX line. The latest collectible action figure line showing up at B&M Stores in the UK are Series 1 of Diamond Selects 7-inch Cobra Kai figures. The larger format store I was in had a shelf full, with all three Series 1 figures on sale - Daniel Larusso, Johnny Lawrence, and John Kreese. The Star Wars Black Series Pondo Baba figure was first released in the 2021 Hasbro Pulse Convention Exclusive Cantina Showdown set. This single release was part of Wave 6 of the Galaxy Collection and is number 02 in the A New Hope collection. The figure is identical to the Exclusive Release except for the fact it does not include the alternative hoofed hands. Hasbro does seem to have tweaked the holster which now offers a better fit for the blaster. The figure does repurpose the body from the Medal Ceremony Luke Skywalker, but the reuse is not obvious and still presents a good representation of Pondo Baba's onscreen costume, complete with weathering. The head may appear a bit large to some, but it is as seen on screen and the perception is somewhat skewed from other versions of Pondo Baba in the 3.75-inch scale where the head size is often reduced. The big miss for the release is the lack of a removable lower arm which would have been a great addition to the set for Cantina Showdown dioramas. "One does not simply walk into Mordor" Series 5 of Diamond Select's Lord of the Rings 7-inch figures will be made up of Boromir and the Urak Hai hunting part leader, Lurtz. The release of Boromir means we now have 6 members of the original Fellowship, with the Hobbits Sam, Merry, and Pippin the ones currently missing. Boromir is not shown with any accessories - which is disappointing - as he should at least come with his horn and potentially sword & shield. These may be included by the time we reach release. Boromir is also shown with his Lothlorien Cloak, something that was dropped from the other Fellowship figures. Lurtz too is shown without accessories and looks like it re-uses some parts from the Series 4 Uruk Hai figure. Again we'd hope Lurtz would come with his bow by the time he is released. Both figures come in the window box format as seen with the other LOTR figures to date, there is no BAF with Diamond apparently dropping this format after the Series 1-3 Sauron figure. The 2021 release of The Winter Soldier was part of the first Disney+ wave and was based on Bucky's appearance in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The release featured parts of the Falcon Captain America wingsuit. The figure featured a reasonable likeness to Sebastian Stan and was arguably the best Winter Soldier figures to date - but it would be superseded in 2022 with the release of the Winter Soldier Flashback figure. While Bucky got a pair of alternative hands, there was a distinct absence of weaponry. Diamond Select are releasing three more Cobra Kai 7-inch scale Select Action figures. The Series 2 figures include Johnny Lawrence in his red Eagle Fang gi. He is joined by Terry Silver and Chozen.
