The latest releases are all Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles related. We have the Tall Thug and Short Gangster 2-pack, and a Black & White Exclusive Usagi Yojimbo Ultimate from the TMNT Animated Series. We have Dreadmon from the TMNT Adventure Comics - interestingly not packed as a 2-pack with Jagwar as first suspected when we saw the first preview image. And this week's offerings are completed with Triceraton Zog as an Ultimate release from the Mirage Comics Based on the classic 1980s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series! The Walmart Collector Con event is underway in the US with a raft of collectible products going online for pre-order at Walmart. There are two new Exclusive Yellow Rangers coming to Hasbro's Lightning Collection. They are exclusive to Gamestop in the US with limited availability on Hasbro Pulse. Mando Mania Week 3 saw the first Star Wars Black Series reveal of the program - The Tusken Raider Chieftain from The Book of Boba Fett. Hasbro's next 1:1 scale Marvel Legends Roleplay item has been confirmed as Star-Lord's helmet. The helmet will feature movie-inspired light and sound FX. The 13th Doctor Collectors Set was part of the Autumn 2022 Doctor Who B&M range and was badged as ‘The Flux’ set, bringing us three figures from Jodie Whitakers' 2021 season of the same name. It used the usual 3-pack window-box packaging and included a 13th Doctor write-up on the reverse of the box, but doesn’t use the title ‘Flux’ in any position of prominence. This is one of the Doctor Who sets that includes a variant with the sets equally split between a Weeping Angel or a Screaming Angel. The set features the 13th Doctor figure, and this is the exact same sculpt as has been released in a number of different variations over the past 3-years. This one is designed on the outfit seen during Flux, with the darker blue coat over the blue jumper and trousers. As one of the more recent sculpts, the likeness is good while remaining consistent with the overall aesthetics of the Who line. The Doctor is joined by a new version of Yaz, and this is a repaint of the previous Yaz giving her a brown coat, black shirt with red detailing, and some darker trousers. While the body is repainted, the head has been updated - or rather the hair has, removing the buns we saw on the first two Yaz figures and adding a ponytail instead. Both the Doctor and Yaz feature the usual Who articulation with pinned joints and more rudimentary swivel movement. Posing will be fairly limited as is usually the case to neutral stances, head turns, and some arm gestures The final figure of the set is a Weeping Angel, but a blue transparent version as seen during the Flux episodes. Again, this is a re-use of the existing Weeping Angel mould but recast in a transparent blue plastic. Like the hologram figures, the execution here is good and doesn’t show off too many internal gubbins - while also allowing light to pass through, and these transparent Angels look fantastic when backlit. As a representation of the Flux series, the set is acceptable considering the use of existing figures and parts was a key driver. Many were asking why the Doctor as a Weeping Angel wasn’t a possibility, or the more extensive development of a Dan figure especially as John Bishop has alluded to being measured for a figure. The variant inclusion is a bit of a niggle forcing the purchase of two sets if you want both Angels and will likely lead to an influx (pardon the pun) of 13th Doctors and Yaz figures on the secondary market. Nothing dramatic in this one, but certainly one for completists or fans of the Jodie Whittaker era. The 9th Doctor Collector Set is part of the Autumn 2022 Doctor Who Collectors range sold through B&M stores in the UK. Like most of the B&M 3-packs that have gone before, it includes a majority of figures (or parts of figures) that have previously been released but tweaked or repainted to create new versions. The packaging remains consistent with the other three packs and now gains some background information on the back of the packaging that talks through the 9th Doctor’s era and appearances. The set starts with what is essentially a new version of the 9th Doctor as the figure had to undergo heavy retooling and resculpting as the original moulds were degraded. This gives us a new portrait of Christopher Eccleston and puts it onto an updated body that is then painted to give the jacket a different dark brown worn leather look, and blue jeans. This outfit combination was never seen during the 9th Doctor’s era but was something that was worn for a Blue Peter special in 2005. This new 9th Doctor variant is probably the star of the set and includes the usual level of pinned articulation. There is a 2nd version of the 9th Doctor included, the holographic version as seen at the end of his season during Parting of the Ways. This is essentially the same figure, but cast in blue translucent plastic with some darker grey added over the top for variation. The Hologram retains the likeness, despite the lack of colour, and also doesn’t fall into the trap of other such figures by going so see-through that the inner workings and gubbins of the figure become too visible. It has the exact same articulation as the painted version. The 3rd figure is somewhat of a letdown for fans as it re-uses the very old 2005 ‘disco’ Rose Tyler that first came packed in the Remote Control Battle Packs. The likeness to Billy Piper is passing, but the updated Series 2 version has always been the superior version. The figure has the flared blue jeans as seen before, but the hoodie is repainted to try and match the one Rose wore in ‘End of the World’. As with all the ‘Disco’ Rose releases, the articulation is pretty much non-existent. While the hips have a joint, the legs can't really move much and the same is true of the shoulders and neck. The only real movement of note is at the elbows and that simply allows Rose to swing her forearms into the body or outwards. The 9th Doctor Set, like the other 2022 packs, is perhaps a little lacklustre compared to the usual innovations we have seen to create these sets in the past. Character themselves have admitted as much. The set does bring us an updated 9th Doctor. I can’t say it is better than the original as there is no a lot in it - but it is good to see Character invest in updated tooling for Ecclestone’s Doctor. The Hologram 9th Doctor played a relatively substantial role in the finale of Series 1 and is on par with the Holographic 10th Doctor released a few years ago. The set is let down by the inclusion of the Rose, and the use of a figure that is close to 20 years old and lacked articulation and posing options when it first came out. I would have preferred to see either another 9th Doctor variant or a Rose that used the Series 2 sculpt and some kit-bashed parts to create something new. Out of all the 2022 releases, this one may hang about the longest - even once released, but it certainly has enough value for fans to pick up even if you do push the Rose towards the back of the display. The 10th Wave of Super7's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been revealed, and as teased earlier this week it does indeed include the Rat King. The wave kicks off with Classic Rocker Leonardo who will come with two heads, alternative hands, a slice of pizza, sunglasses, a microphone and stand, and a twin-neck guitar with a strap. Following on from the full reveal of the NECA Gargoyles David Xanatos figure is this second reveal of the Ultimate Ultimate Elisa Maza.
