Day 3 of Star Wars Celebration 2023, and today the Jazwares Star Wars Micro Galaxy Squadron reveals were all Light Armor class vehicles. Joining the series are Luke's X-34 Landspeeder with figures of Luke and Obi-Wan. We have a Separatist Vulture Droid that appears to convert from ship to droid mode. The A-Wing is back in the colours of the Rebellion as seen in Return of the Jedi. And lining up against the A-Wing is the Imperial Tie Interceptor which will come in the standard grey, but also in a red variant. This red version will either be an Emperors Guard Tie Interceptor or the one flown by Major Vonreg. The headline reveal from the Hasbro Star Wars Celebration panel for the Vintage collection had to be the Mandalorian's N-1 Starfighter, heading to stores in the Autumn of 2023. Other reveals included a Nien Nunb, Krrsantan, Cad Bane, Jabba's Court Denizens, and Moff Jerjerrod. These are all Summer 2023 releases apart from Krrsantan who will land in Autumn. They are all General releases apart from the Jabba's Court pack which is exclusive to Hasbro Pulse and Shop Disney. These new releases are live for pre-order as of the 11th of April 2023. Indiana Jones has always had strong ties to Star Wars through George Lucas and Lucasfilm, and therefore the opportunity was taken at Star Wars Celebration for Hasbro to show off a number of new products in their 6-inch scale Indiana Jones Adventure Series. The next full wave of general release figures will be themed around The Temple of Doom with figures of Temple Indiana Jones, Short Round, and Thugee Hypnotised Indy taking up three slots. And a look ahead to the Dial of Destiny with figures of Indy and Helena Shaw. The wave's 'Collect-an-Artifact' will be the Thugee Skull and Sankara Stones. There is also a call back to Raiders of the Lost Ark with a Cairo Market Indy that is exclusive to Amazon and Hasbro Pulse. The Adventure Series will also move into some Deluxe Sets. The first is the 'Temple Escape' set from Raiders of the Lost Ark, featuring Indiana Jones as well as the plinth and golden icon from the iconic opening sequence. We also stick with Raiders of the Lost Ark for the first 2-pack in the line which brings us another Rene Belloq as well as Marcus Brody. The Temple Escape set is exclusive to Hasbro Pulse and Shop Disney, while the Belloq and Brody set is exclusive to Amazon and Hasbro Pulse. All of the new releases can be pre-ordered as of the 13th of April and will arrive in the Autumn of 2023. The Indiana Jones Adventure Series is also following suit with the Star Wars lines in the way of 'pipeline' reveals with six further Indy figures in development. The third wave was confirmed as being themed around The Last Crusade with a new Indy figure, Henry Jones Sr, The Grail Knight, and Elsa Schneider. There will also be two further Dial of Destiny figures with Mads Mikkelsen's Jürgen Voller, and Antonio Banderas' character Renaldo. Day 2 of Star Wars Celebration gave us four new reveals from Jazwares in their Micro Galaxy Squadron line. All four are Starfighter class and include the debut of the Imperial Tie Bomber and the Rebels Y-Wing Bomber. They are joined by two more X-Wing variants - one in the livery of Wedge Antilles which will be a Rare release, the other in the colours of Biggs Darklighter and this one will be a Chase release. Announced in February, the Star Wars Celebration Exclusive Darth Vader in Revenge of the Jedi packaging has opened for pre-order for attendees at Star Wars Celebration London. Attendees will need to collect a special code which also then includes a QR code giving access to the pre-order page. The first Star Wars Black Series reveals of Star Wars Celebration came on the first Day with the news that a new wave of Bad Batch figures are incoming. The Bad Batch will all be released in their Series 2 Mercenary Gear with standard releases of Omega, Hunter, Tech, and Echo. There will then be a Deluxe release for Wrecker. Also included is a new Clone Commando figure as featured heavily in Season 2. Omega is a general release and arrives in Spring 2024 so is potentially part of the same wave as the Tusken Raider Chieftain and Pike Soldier. She can be pre-ordered from the 11th of April 2023. The rest of the figures are exclusive to Walmart in the US and have an Autumn 2023 release date, with pre-orders opening on May the 4th. In the UK they will likely be sold via Hasbro Pulse and the Fan Channel retailers. It is worth noting that in the promo blurb Wrecker is priced at the same $24.99 price point as the other figures - we suspect that may be an error and his price will be corrected. Day 1 of Star Wars Celebration London saw the first teaser trailer for the new Disney+ Ahsoka series which is now confirmed as being released in August 2023. Jazwares are in attendance at Star Wars Celebration London this weekend and promising a new Micro Galaxy Squadron reveal each day in their booth. The Day 1 reveals were a very impressive start with the arrival of the Imperial AT-AT and Lambda Class Shuttle. The Assault Class AT-AT will have fully articulated legs and neck as well as an opening cockpit and central section. This main body of the AT-AT includes a trooper storage section, a section for speeder bikes, a command centre, and a crane. The sound effects feature both walking effects and laser cannon effects - with the latter also lighting up. Other light-up functions include the main cockpit viewport and the internal command centre. It comes with mini-figures of the AT-AT Driver, General Veers, 2 x Snowtroopers, and a Luke Skywalker in Snowspeeder gear. The Starship Class Lambda Shuttle will include folding wings, landing gear, an opening landing ramp, and opening cockpit. There is also a removable panel from the main body allowing access to the passenger compartment. The Shuttle includes mini-figures of Emperor Palpatine and two Royal Guards. It is safe to say Hasbro spit the collector community with the launch of their plastic-free packaging in late 2022. It seems Hasbro are now about to reverse this decision following consumer feedback and will revert to some form of window & blister packaging later this year for their key lines and for all 6-inch collector lines going forward. "We wanted to share an update on packaging for Hasbro’s 6-inch-scale figures. Based on your feedback, we will be re-introducing windows and blisters to our 6-inch fan figures beginning later this year, into 2024 for select products across our portfolio of brands, including, G.I. The Indiana Jones Adventure Series is Hasbro’s latest 6-inch scale collectors line, bringing figures from across the Indiana Jones movies. Announced in 2022, the first wave of figures arrived in April 2023 with a wave of 5 figures taken from Indy’s first outing, Raiders of the Lost Ark. LIke all Hasbro’s current products, the Indy line launches in plastic free packaging and uses a squared off box with the same dimensions as that used by the Star Wars Black Series (without the corner cut-out). The character is shown on the front of the box as a glossy relief image, with the box itself using the iconic sandy background and red directional markers we associate with the Maps from the Indy movies The right hand side contains more character art, while the rear and the left spine covers the box contents as well as the ‘Buildt an Artifact’, in this case the Ark of the Covenant which is split across the five Raiders releases. Inside the box is a cardboard inner tray that surrounds the figures and accessories. These are wrapped in a wax paper that is also printed with the Indiana Jones map design. The inner tray also carries the assemby instructions for the Ark of the Covenant so keep that handy - it is also worth noting the Sallah figure's part looks to be one piece but is actually both the base and the top of the Ark which have to be carefully separated. Salah carries a decent likeness to actor John Rhys-Davies but while the photo-real decor is in use it isn’t brilliant in execution when you see some of the MCU heads in the Marvel Legends line. He is wearing the robes he wears as he and Indy infiltrate the dig at Tanis. The base figure of flowing beige robes is overlaid with a lower skirt section and a waist coat. All the parts are cast in their base colour, with additional decor added on the sash belt and with the addition of some weathering on the arms and skirt piece. Articulation is in line with the Star Wars Black Series with 17 points of articulation. The figure is completely pin-less and the single joints on the arms and legs designed to flow with the rest of the outfit. Sallah’s skirt does impede leg motion while the arms are fully free for posing and you can also utilise the waist and double neck joints to aid in posing. Sallah is packed with his shovel which did arrive bent in my case. It is two tone in colour with a light wood colour handle and a silver shovel head. It fits into Sallah’s hands with plenty of options to pose him digging, or holding the shovel. The other accessory is a coiled length of rope cast in an off white plastic.This can be slung on his shoulder, but only if the arm is moved out slightly. The more natural option is to have it hooked on his lower arms. In terms of scale the Adventure Series sits somewhere between the Star Wars Black Series and the Marvel Legends line. The aesthetics and articulation are more aligned to the Black Series and the Ghostbuters line rather than the slightly taller, better articulated and buffer Marvel Legends & Power Rangers. Sallah and the Raiders of the Ark launch wave reflect a brand new experience for Indy fans with a Collectors based line that goes beyond the odd Indy figure. It also looks like it will have the depth of the smaller Hasbro line from 2008 and I would hope that level of world-building will be supported by the fans - as without the sales the line is unlikely to go as deep as we want. Its a great start and I look forward to whatever Hasbro has planned going forward. McFarlane has just shared this post on their social feeds announcing the launch of a 'Collector Edition' Series of McFarlane action figures. There is a lack of detail at this time other than we can look forward to Summer 2023 which is when this new program launches. McFarlane has released 'Collector Edition' figures in the past circa 2008-2009 and these were a cross between figures and statues posed in an appropriate scene. At the time these spanned a number of the McFarlane licenses. We await more details, but considering McFarlane has already brought back Dragons and Movie Maniacs very recently, this Collector Edition series is very much a modern day revamp of the old format. My assumption at this stage is that this will sit alongside the McFarlane main lines but at a more premium price point - maybe even crowdfunded (HasLab-esque) or pre-order prior to production (Super7) framework. The comment around 'desired universe' indicates the Collector Edition figures will cross some or all of the current McFarane licenses.
