“But choose wisely, for while the true Grail will bring you life, the false Grail will take it from you.” The Grail Table, as seen in the final sequences of Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, is the third Build-an-Artifact in the Hasbro Indiana Jones Adventure Series, spread across six figures in Wave 3. Each part is packed with the figure inside the windowless box with a very simple visual instruction graphic printed on the inner brown sleeve of each release explaining how to construct the final item. Assembly is OK, but the legs of the table need a bit of alignment to get the shapes right. The overall size of the piece is impressive, the biggest Artifact build to date. It measures close to 6.5 inches wide (17cm), 2.5 inches deep (6.4cm) and stands 7.25 inches tall (18.5cm). While it is only the central part of the onscreen table, it still scales really well with the figures. The main elements of the table are cast in a darker brown base colour with texture built into the cast plastic to recreate a wooden carved design which is then overlaid with a darker wash. There is a striped burgundy cloth worked into the plastic to be draped across the centre, and above all of this a sculpted figure of a seated figure wearing a crown. Beneath all of this, and holding the table upright, are a pair of inverted ornate carved legs. Within the tabletop, there are two small slots, into which connect two silver platters, These carry a small degree of sculpted designs and are cast in silver plastic, but no additional paint or washes. Between the two platters, there are then a number of indents which are obviously shaped for the various false grails included across the wave, although these don't clip into place they simply sit on the table. These various grails of differing designs are cast in their base colour with one of the cups also featuring some red jewels. We have five grails to fill in the space, and if you wish you can also add in the False Grail that features with Elsa (and with the Walter Donovan release), as well as the actual Grail that is packed with the Grail Knight. The piece is finished off with a pair of flaming bowls that include translucent orange flame with a painted yellow base. These are OK, but probably didn't need the yellow paint addition. With everything assembled onto the table, it does look the part and well ‘stocked’ but the fact these small accessories are freestanding does make it a bit precarious for display particularly if it is at risk of being knocked - some BluTac or similar will be your friend here. Considering what has gone before, this Grail Table does use the bigger 6-figure wave assortment to create a more impressive piece and the finish is excellent and enhances a display beautifully along with the Last Crusade figures, particularly the Grail Knight as well as Elsa, Indy and Walter Donovan for the scenes that they shared while selecting the Grail. Well worth investing in the full wave, even picking up the Dial of Destiny figures, for a centrepiece display. “He who finds the Holy Grail must face three challenges.” The third wave of Hasbro’s Indiana Jones Adventure Series figures was released in October 2023 and while it contained a couple of figures from The Dial of Destiny, the wave and its build-an-artifact were themed around The Last Crusade including - finally - an action figure of Henry Jones Sr. Henry Sr’s. packaging is the standard windowless box with its sandy base colour and map design overlaid with images of the figure and the Adventure Series logo. The side spines contain artwork of the character and a checklist of the Build-an-Artifact for this wave (The Grail Table) while the reverse of the box features further images of the Knight and his accessories. The only reference to The Last Crusade as the source material is made on the back of the box but there is no synopsis or character bio as exists on other Hasbro lines. Sean Connery action figures are pretty scarce, and having one in a six-inch scale is exciting. Thankfully the quality of the figure is impressive, doing Sir Sean real justice in replicating his role as Henry Jones Sr. in The Last Crusade. The figure does recycle much of the body from earlier Indy figures. It is a direct re-use of much of the Professor Indiana Jones figure from the same movie, which originally took parts from the Temple of Doom Club Obi-Wan release. Henry does get an updated jacket with some additional pocket details and a textured bow tie. The outfit is cast in the base brown with minor paint applications on a few of the buttons and on the shirt sleeves that protrude from the jacket sleeves. The original costume was a wool suit with some level of texture, but that hasn’t been replicated on the figure - it would have been very hard to do so at the scale. The colouring also varies in the film depending on lighting and location, and the colour Hasbro has settled on is towards the lighter end of what we see on screen. The head sculpt is glorious in terms of the likeness to Connory at the time of The Last Crusade, perfectly capturing that iconic brow line and intense eyes beneath. The beard is sculpted with the face and the whole likeness is enhanced with a non-glossy photo real application that adds in the eyes, mouth, some shading around the nose and a couple of tones of grey on the beard. The glasses are removable as we saw with Jurgen Voller and these include transparent lenses and arms that are shaped around the head. The look remains a bit too ‘thick’ but a balance has been struck over looks vs practicality at this scale and making them removable does give collectors a choice rather than fixing them in place as we’ve seen with other Hasbro lines (Egon in Ghostbusters). The hat too is also removable, cast in more soft plastic and shaped against the head for a snug natural-looking fit. My sole issue with the figure I bought was some rogue grey paint sat on Henry’s forehead. Articulation is the full 19 points across the body, all pinless, and inclusive of the elbow & knee joints, the butterfly shoulders, and the two-part neck. He poses really nicely with any of the included accessories replicating elements from The Last Crusade. These accessories start with his grail diary. I thought this might be a re-use of the notepad from the Well of Souls figure, but it is new and includes visible detail of the pages, the leather cover, and the black elasticated tie. We also get Henry’s bag, a full-to-bursting travel case in dark brown, with lighter dry brushing to create wear and tear, and silver to finish on the clasps and where the handle meets the main bag. It sadly doesn’t open - that would have been a neat feature to stow away other accessories - but it will fit in either of Henry’s hands for carrying. The final element is the umbrella, which is also well-detailed with the folded umbrella element in black, a curved brown handle, and a silver and brown tip. While the figure inherits the hands from Indiana Jones, the right trigger hand still works perfectly fine to hold the umbrella - either in a walking stick pose with the tip on the floor, or in a more dynamic stance. Henry Jones Sr. is the highlight of wave 3 for me and shows the journey Hasbro has been on with the Adventure Series in just under a year in terms of execution of both the figure aesthetics, but also the accessories which are now coming in much more detailed and better painted. Henry has a number of slightly different looks to work with by way of the removable glasses and hat which Hasbro could have fixed in place, but instead provided us with the options. He poses really well with his son, and with any of the other Last Crusade pieces including the Grail Table - and you can even reunite him with Marcus Brody if you wish using the figure from the two-pack. A near-perfect figure in the price point of Hasbro’s 6-inch line, and a great way to end the year. That is the boundary, and the price, of immortality.” The third wave of Hasbro’s Indiana Jones Adventure Series figures was released in October 2023 and while it contained a couple of figures from The Dial of Destiny, the wave and its build-an-artifact were themed around The Last Crusade including the much anticipated Grail Knight figure. The Grail Knights packaging is the standard windowless box with its sandy base colour and map design overlaid with images of the figure and the Adventure Series logo. The side spines contain artwork of the character and a checklist of the Build-an-Artifact for this wave (The Grail Table) while the reverse of the box features further images of the Knight and his accessories. The only reference to The Last Crusade as the source material is made on the back of the box but there is no synopsis or character bio as exists on other Hasbro lines. The Knight is a full new figure, recreating the Knights Templar costume from the movie starting with textured metal boots, tan trousers, and a similarly coloured tabard applied as a softer plastic sleeve over the base body. This tabard features folds and creases as you’d expect from a fabric and reaches to the Knight’s knees. It includes a couple of painted belt details, with the upper belt also including gold-painted buttons. The Templar symbol is sculpted into the front of the chest and painted in red with what seems to be a silver trim. The arms use the same beige colour and run down to the wrists where more armour can be seen with chainmail gloves. The head is sculpted within a chainmail hood, with only the face of the Knight visible. The likeness is impressive with a depth of sculpt that captures the likeness to actor Robert Eddison as we see him during the film and his makeup to depict his very advanced years. The photo decor is on point, and there is no glossy or waxy finish which improves the finish no end. The whole outfit is then offset with a removable cloak, this is packed separately and can be displayed on or off the figure. It is made of white plastic with sculpted rope ties at the neck painted in red. A further Knights Templar sculpted symbol sits on the left shoulder, again painted with red and trimmed in silver. The cut of the cloak mimics the folds and flow of cloth and is shaped perfectly to meet the floor and flow out behind the Knight. Our Knight comes with his sword and a working scabbard. The sword is a grey silver plastic with a painted silver hilt. While many of the Indy accessories have lacked detail, the details of the sword hilt are impressive and would have been accentuated further with a dark wash. The scabbard is simpler in design with a brown finish and silver end caps. It includes a peg on the reverse the corresponds to a socket on the Kngith’s belt allowing it to be displayed worn - this fit is OK, but not overly secure and you may find it dropping off if the figure is knocked or handled. The sword fits in either hand, with sufficient articulation for two-handed poses - and poses where he is drawing the sword from the scabbard, which is my preferred look. There are 18 points of articulation in total, all of which work as they should - but the trade-off for such an impressive-looking figure with plastic robes and cloak is a restriction in articulation. Essentially the arms are about all you will move, the head being held in by the hood, and the legs by the tabard. The Knight poses beautifully and is perfectly stable once stood. It is worth mentioning that the Grail Knight is the figure in the wave that comes with the Holy Grail accessory - this is specifically shown on the packaging as being associated directly with the figure and not part of the Grail Table build-an-artifact piece. In one way, its inclusion makes sense as the Knight was protecting the Grail for so long - but he also never handles it in the movie, so considering it this way would see it best packed with Elsa or Indy. The Grail piece is simple in design - 'the cup of a Carpenter' - and has a brown external finish with a golden lining. It will fit in the Grail Knight's hand, or in the hand of any of the Indy figures - while it will also sit perfectly as part of the Grail Table diorama with all the various false Grails. Visually, the Grail Knight is a highlight not only of Wave 3 of the Adventure Series figures but the line overall. His on-screen design has been replicated in a 6-inch scale to great effect, with no soft goods in sight, and the head sculpt and finish are pretty much as good as we’ve seen to date. Accessories are great, and articulation is enough to work with the sword & sheath. And posed with the wider Grail Table diorama, you can’t really ask for much more. “I told you… DON'T call me Junior!” The third wave of Hasbro’s Indiana Jones Adventure Series figures was released in October 2023 and while it contained a couple of figures from The Dial of Destiny, the wave and its build-an-artifact were themed around The Last Crusade including another Indiana Jones variant wearing his Last Crusade outfit. Last Crusade Indy packaging is the standard windowless box with its sandy base colour and map design overlaid with images of the figure and the Adventure Series logo. The side spines contain artwork of the character and a checklist of the Build-an-Artifact for this wave (The Grail Table) while the reverse of the box features further images of Indy and his accessories. The only reference to The Last Crusade as the source material is made on the back of the box but there is no synopsis or character bio as exists on other Hasbro lines. Last Crusade Indy does recycle a lot of parts from the other Indy figures using the legs, arms, and jacket from the Raiders of the Lost Ark figure. The torso is new, featuring a buttoned-up shirt with a tie. Each element of Indy’s outfit is cast in the base colour with additional paint applications to reflect wear and tear on the trousers and the jacket. The paintwork after that is limited to Indy’s belts. The first belt is part of the lower body sculpt and is painted in brown with a silver buckle. The second belt is an individual rubberised plastic piece in darker brown featuring his holster, and a hook for his whip. The buckle here is picked out in a gold finish. Indy’s look is completed with his satchel, also carried forward from Raiders Indy, and like that figure is applied on arrival under the coat so it is not so easily removable without some work. This does feature two brown tones for the bag and strap, and painted buckle detail like the belt. The head looks new, or tweaked, and is about the best likeness we’ve had to date for Harrison Ford but still doesn’t nail it completely. The photo-real paint decor applies the eyes, mouth, and stubble to the head with the glossy finish still apparent which gives Indy a sweaty look and detracts from the facial features by being very reflective of any light source. The hat is cast in brown with a darker brown band and similar wear-and-tear weathering as the coat. Articulation kicks off with a new and innovative feature for the series with the hat being articulated on the head allowing it to be pulled forward or pushed back. While the movement is nothing extensive, these small articulated adjustments each create a differing look for Indy. The total articulation count, with this new hat joint, is still 19 with the Indy figures missing out on a dual joint in the neck for some reason even though the neck is an individual piece plugged into the torso. The articulation supports the posing and use of each of Indy’s accessories starting off with his revolver. This black cast piece lacks a lot of detail and has zero paint apps. It is another recycled piece and still looks and feels too small in Indy’s hand. When not in use it can be holstered. The Whips - also reused - remain coloured in the brighter brown/orange plastic rather than moving to the darker finish seen on Dial of Destiny Indy in the last wave. The unfurled version arrived in a good position versus some of the others I’ve had and needed very little heat treatment to get it into a midair ‘whip’ position. The curled version can be held or hung on the hook on the belt. While the rubbery clasp is a little easier to work with than the first Indy’s - this and the holster clasp are too fiddly and need a rethink for any future figures. Indy also includes the same sub-machine gun piece as was included with the Belloq from the recent two-pack. Like the revolver, this is black cast, but with more obvious detailing but still lacking any paint. It can fit into Indy’s right hand with the left hand coming into play for a two-handed pose. We knew when the line launched that Indy figures would be plentiful, and while he is the 10th in the line this shirt & tie version of his outfit from The Last Crusade is welcomed, as is the fact this time round the wave contents are restricted to just one Indy (as opposed to the multiple Indy releases in the previous Temple of Doom wave). The Last Crusade Indy does most things right, and Hasbro is improving the face sculpts and finish the further we get into this line but haven't quite got a nailed on Harrison Ford. The accessories are good, and quite extensive, although I might have preferred to lose the guns and give the whips a better paint job and easier fastenings on the belt. Certainly looks the part as a solo display, and even more so posed with the other Last Crusade figures and that hefty Grail Table piece once built. Luca Comics & Games event is on in Italy this week, and Ryan Ting and Dwight Stall from the Hasbro Marvel Legends team were in attendance for a one-hour presentation with the event attendees, including a new digital reveal. The new reveal was that of Lilandra Neramani from the X-Men. She was shown only as a digital render, so is likely a few months away from release probably putting her firmly into the second half of 2024. This is the only image available as shared via social media channels by an event attendee. We are hoping for a better-quality version to be sent out. Following on from the Diablo IV reveals, McFarlane are now releasing the details of their other Blizzard Entertainment licence World of Warcraft during BlizzCon 2023. The World of Warcraft figures will be the same as the Diablo IV releases, 6-inch scaled figurines without any articulation, and posed with a diorama base and cardboard backdrop. The figures will include some alternative parts to vary the look. There is also a 'Mystery Weapon' included with each set. Like Diablo IV, there are three variants for each figure starting with Common, then Epic, then Rare figures with the latter being more exclusive and sold via the McFarlane Store, Gamestop, and Amazon only. The parts & accessories included with each figure will allow you to display one of two different classes per release. The line will launch with figures of an Orc Warrior/Shaman, Elf Druid/Rogue, Human Paladin/Warrior, and Undead Priest/Warlock. We also have some McFarlane Dragons scale Warcraft Dragons with a general release 2-pack of a Red Highland Drake and a Black Proto-Drake. A Gold Label Amazon Exclusive will also be released featuring a Blue Highland Drake and a Bronze Proto-Drake. The World of Warcraft releases are due in December 2023. The side spines contain artwork of the character and a checklist of the Build-an-Artifact for this wave (The Grail Table) while the reverse of the box features further images of Elsa and her additional parts and accessories. The only reference to The Last Crusade as the source material is made on the back of the box but there is no synopsis or character bio as exists on other Hasbro lines. Elsa is the third female figure to be released in the Adventure Series and is an entirely new sculpt designed around the outfit she wears in the desert and the Grial Temple towards the back end of The Last Crusade. This includes black cast legs and boots that connect up into a high-waisted trouser around the waist with a sculpted belt that has paint detail in brown and silver around the fastening. The torso is an open white blouse with a sculpted black top beneath and a painted black collar and silver buttons. The torso also includes an area of exposed flesh beneath the neck joint. This is painted and is a varying shade to the neck above which isn’t ideal. Elsa’s costume is finished off with white cast arms with puffy sleeves and a pair of black-gloved hands. Doctor Schneider features two head options both with good likenesses to actor Alison Doody but not quite as strong as other figures within the same wave. Facial printing is applied to the eyes and mouth, while the hair is painted in a platinum blonde. The hat-wearing Elsa features a grey military cap with a silver button up front. Be careful when swapping out the heads as the new dual joint neck has a tendency to come out when force is applied. Schneider’s look is completed with an included pair of red lens goggles. These appear to be too tight to be worn over the face or over the peak of the gap and appear purely included to hang around her neck as seen in the film. The head has to be removed to get these into location. Braver collectors may want to try warming up the flexible strap of the glasses to see if they will be coaxed into a position over the eyes but mine felt like they were about to snap as I tried. Articulation is less than the standard we have seen in the Adventure Series, with 17 points of articulation in total. The phasing out of thigh swivels by Hasbro continues on Elsa, although a boot cut is featured. She also missed out on the butterfly shoulders. The articulation all works as designed and Elsa can be posed for display with a good level of stability. Her only other accessory is the False Grail, the exact same piece as was included with the Walter Donovan figure from the same scene. Elsa can hold this in either hand, or it can be placed onto the Grail Table Build-an-Artifact when complete. The recycling of accessories here is disappointing and an alternative accessory would have been more suited to building out the line. Elsa might have been better suited to include the actual Grail (which comes with the Grail Knight) considering her scenes with the cup and her ultimate downfall. Elsa Schneider provides a good companion piece to the existing Walter Donovan figure and allows a wider display with the Grail Table and Indiana Jones for display. Hasbro could have stuck with a single-head option for Doctor Schneider, so the fact we get both looks is appreciated. The accessories did need a bit more thought with perhaps a different grail cup thrown, and goggles that were wearable over her head. Estabished UK eBay outlet, ToysandFilms, has listed a number of pre-sale listings for what appears to be new McFarlane Warhammer 40k figures. The listings either have no images or are using a JoyToy picture - but the title and description is the same format as other McFarlane 7-inch products. The listings are all for a Wave 7 which is numerically accurate as following on from the Dark Tide Wave 6 figures. In the standard size, we have a Space Wolves Wolf Guard and a World Eater Chaos Marine. There is then a Megafig listing for an Ultramarine Terminator. Each figure also has an unpainted 'Artists Proof' listing. The ToysandFilms descriptions have a tentative release date of the 15th of November. “Spain's greatest frogman” The third wave of Hasbro’s Indiana Jones Adventure Series figures was released in October 2023 and while it was themed around The Last Crusade, there were two figures included from the recently released Dial of Destiny including this new figure of Renaldo, as played in the film by Antonio Banderas. Renaldo’s packaging is the standard windowless box with its sandy base colour and map design overlaid with images of the figure and the Adventure Series logo. It is at this point the reference to the Dial of Destiny as the source material is made, but there is no synopsis of the movie or character bio for Renaldo included. The choice of Renaldo as one of only four figures from The Dial of Destiny to arrive in 2023 is slightly odd after seeing the movie but was likely driven by the higher profile of Banderas and his background as a friend and ally of Indy and envisaged as somewhat of a pirate. The figure is all brand new and features a short-sleeved blue shirt with a layer of painted weathering, the main part of which is a rubberised sleeve over a base torso with Renaldo’s vest visible underneath. The trousers are brown, with sculpted turn-ups and a sculpted then painted leather belt with bronze metallic clasp. Renaldo is wearing his slip-on shoes with the legs cast and plugged into the base of the trousers. The left leg is all skin tone, while the right leg reflects Renaldo’s leg brace. This brace is painted in brown over the flesh tone and does leave an edge partially unfinished. The head sculpt is one of the strongest to date in the line, these Wave 3 figures are certainly finding their feet. We have a sculpted bearded Banderas with facial print tech and a mix of greys used for his beard and his hair. I was surprised to find the hat is removable with a full head and hair sculpted beneath. The hat is a softer plastic and cast in beige with a black rim and peak. Renaldo’s look is finished off with a couple of decal-applied tattoos - one to his right bicep and the other on his left hand just beneath a painted wristwatch. Renaldo is an entirely pinless figure with 19 points of articulation. As is the direction of travel with Hasbro the thigh swivel has been lost. However, Renaldo gains a swivel at the shin thanks to the way his lower legs slot into the sculpted turned-up trousers. This is not a character that sees a huge amount of action, but the figure itself is pretty extensive in its posing options. The sole accessory is Renaldo’s walking stick, which does then determine the posing options if you choose for him to use his stick on display as seen in the movie. The stick itself carries a good amount of detail with a spiral design up the length and a hooked beak handle. It is cast in a light brown but lacks any further paint. I was worried provision wouldn’t have been made for Renaldo to hold the stick naturally, but that was unwarranted as Hasbro have designed the right hand to hold the stick head in a walking position. It will also fit in the left hand, although this looks more like a trigger hand - but no gun is included. There is no doubt that Renaldo, and his companion figure from the Dial of Destiny Doctor Jurgen Voller, will not be as in demand as the Last Crusade figures from the same wave - the same was true of the Temple of Doom series. It is therefore smart of Hasbro to weave these figures into more popular waves with a Build-an-Artifact incentive to purchase. That being said, and despite his limited role in the movie, Renaldo is a smart-looking figure with very little to fault. The McFarlane Diablo IV figures have finally been revealed. These are 6-inch scaled posed figures, similar in style to the Movie Maniacs line, with alternative parts & weapons as well as a diorama base and cardboard backdrop. Like the Movie Maniacs series, McFarlane are also packing a 'mystery' weapon with each figure. The figures include variants, with a standard 'Common' figure and a repainted 'Rare' and 'Epic' versions - all priced the same at $29.99 in the US, but with their rarity reflected in released numbers. The Rare figures are also restricted to selected retailers of Gamestop, Amazon, and the McFarlane Store. Figures include The Barbarian, Necromancer, Sorceress, and Druid - two versions of each. Versions of the Necromancer and Barbarian will also be released in a Gold Label Exclusive 2-Pack - sold via Amazon. There is then a larger Blood Bishop deluxe figure.
