MCM Comic Con 2024 takes place from Friday the 25th of October until Sunday the 27th of October. Following their NYCC 2024 reveals - Hasbro is heading to MCM London with further reveals planned for their key brands including Marvel and Star Wars. The Hasbro Panel will be held on Saturday the 26th of October at the Hasbro Pulse stand S1300. Throughout the day, there will be a number of new product reveals and first looks. After announcing their new license to make Star Trek figures at the end of September, Nacelle Toys took the opportunity at NYCC 2024 to show off what we can expect from this new 6-inch collector line and also preview a few of the figures in the flesh. Nacelle are intending to release larger waves of around 8-10 figures. They can choose figures from across the original timeline Star Trek movies as well as the older shows from The Original Series to Enterprise - sadly, the newer Discovery, Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds are not included in the licencing deal. Nacelle have promised figures never seen before in a Star Trek figure line and their launch wave is very delivering on that promise - although the lack of any significant major characters may be a worry to collectors who've seen new lines come and go even with the likes of Kirk, Picard and Spock in the first waves (McFarlane and then Playmates). What we can expect are quality sculpted 6-inch figures in line with the likes of Star Wars Black Series or Marvel Legends from Hasbro. They will retail around $30 in the US, so hopefully circa £30 here in the UK. "We have unfinished business. Attack me with all your strength." The first wave of Star Wars Black Series figures from The Acolyte hit stores in September 2024 a couple of months after the show had aired on Disney+. The Galaxy Collection Wave 17 was entirely made up of Acolyte characters including four Jedi as well as the key characters of Mae and Osha. The Acolyte series within the Galaxy Collection features a new red-shaded accent colour and the figures are packed in the new squared-off box style with the numbering now included on both the front and the back of the box. Mae is number 06 in the Acolyte series, following on from Jedi Master Indara and concluding the collection and completing the side art montage at this point in time. The rear of the box features a cropped version of the same side illustration as well as a short piece of background text that is the same on all 6 Acolyte releases from Wave 17 giving us just a synopsis about the show - most likely to avoid spoilers had these figures arrived early. The new box design also now features a colour-coordinated backing card for the figure with the deep red Acolyte colour scheme. Rather than being a plain colour backing, there is an illustration within the backing card. For Mae this is the shadowy forest from Khofar and is the same background as is also used on the side artwork. Mae is presented in the assassin gear she wears for most of The Acolyte and as first seen when she battles Master Indara on Ueda. This is a base figure wearing a chainmail of sorts on either arm and over this, we have a softer plastic sleeve of armour with a hammered finish and roughly painted yellow sections on the top and on the base. The lower skirt piece is deep red, almost brown, with more chainmail textures on one piece. It sits around the waist by way of a black decorated belt but without any paintwork, and with an interesting overhang of material out of the top of the belt which does come in handy later as you will see either by design or by accident. Mae’s outfit is finished off with a simple pair of black trousers and black boots. Mae comes with a sleeveless purple soft goods robe that uses a similar material to that of the Jedi Knights and featuring similar tailoring to keep its shape around the hood in particular. The hood can be pulled up over Mae’s head and it sits pretty well considering the usual issues associated with soft goods of this material and scale. Being sleeveless, I found the robes difficult to position naturally with them wanting to slip off the shoulders and down the arm without a tailored sleeve to hold them in situ. They are of course removable. The head sculpt is either the same as Osha’s or at least a minor variation of it considering they are twins and played by the same actor Amandla Stenberg. The likeness is good with facial printing used to enhance on what is a good base sculpt. The hairpiece is specific to Mae and as seen in the show is much longer than Osha’s with a red-brown base colour and highlighted ends in lighter brown on each braided piece of her fringe. The braids continue down the back with the hair reaching all the way down to Mae’s waste. The head sculpts of Mae and Osha are interchangeable but there is some difference in the way the neck is sat in the torso so when swapped one looks to have too long a neck, and the other too squat. Mae also features a facial mask accessory which can vary her look and to have her displayed masked. It is necessary to pop the head off to engage the mask - removing the smaller ringlet that represents the mask in a folded positon with the fully expanded mask. Once the head is replaced the mask covers the bottom half of the face up to and over the nose and is engineered neatly enough to not look oversized or out of place. Mae is articulated in full with pinless joints across 17 points of articulation. This gives her a broad range of motion in the upper body with arms that can extend up and outward in fighting stances or wielding her weaponry. The legs are more restricted by the long skirt and while the right side is split to allow the right leg to move more extensively, the left section has been left intact and therefore this blocks the left leg from following suit. Mae comes with perhaps the smallest weapon accessories every seen in the Black Series with four tiny throwing knives as employed on Ueda. These are black with silver blades but with no other substantial detail considering how tiny they are. Mae’s hands are not quite shaped to hold them securely and there is no real way of holstering them - apart from that overflow of cloth at the top of her belt. Whether it is intentional or not, I found that these knives can be tucked into here and therefore down into the joint between the waist and hips. The fit is not as secure as a purpose-made holster, and they are at risk of being damaged if you were to bend the waist joint too far. I suspect like many others, I very nearly lost at least two of these during the opening and posing of Mae and have sadly decided to keep them off display and in a secure box with my other Black Series spare accessories. I think considering the size a hand sculpted with a throwing knife in place would have been a better option, or to go down the more dynamic route and have the hand and knife in a throwing positon using clear plastic between hand and knife as was done with the Marvel Legends Death Dealer release. Mae, like Osha, is a very visually different figure within a wave dominated by similar-looking Jedi. She has the most complex outfit of the two sisters with plenty of varying textures and layers, but lacks the accessories and variation of Osha provided by the latter's PIP droid, holster and backpack - although the mask accessory is a neat touch negating the need for alternative heads. While Mae works on display facing off against any of the Jedi she does look great alongside Master Indara. I do hope that despite the issues with The Acoloyte and its reception with fans we do still get a Stranger to also display alongside Mae. "My name is Yord Fandar, Knight of the Jedi Order." Jedi Knight Yord Fandar is number 04 in the Acolyte series, sitting between Padawan Jecki Lon, and Master Indara . The rear of the box features a cropped version of the same side illustration as well as a short piece of background text that is the same on all 6 Acolyte releases from Wave 17 giving us just a synopsis about the show - most likely to avoid spoilers had these figures arrived early. The new box design also now features a colour-coordinated backing card for the figure with the deep red Acolyte colour scheme. Rather than being a plain colour backing, there is an illustration within the backing card. For Yord this is a dim building with some spotlights, potentially from Olega, and is the same as also used on the side artwork. Yord is the third Jedi in the wave to be wearing the yellow-toned Jedi Mission robes and therefore has a very similar look overall to Jecki, and to Master Sol in particular and while Sol and Fandar are similar in height and build there is no obvious re-use of parts with both sets of robes carrying minor variances and designs. Yord’s robes, like the others have an outer yellow layer which is a rubberised jacket and skirt over the base figure. Under these we find different tones, with an orange layer and then some paler cream sections finishing with a dark brown collar at the base of Yord’s neck. The robes are joined at the midsection with a belt that is cast as part of the lower skirt and then painted with black and brown core colouring and with gold buckle and fastenings. Like Sol, Yord also features a pair of ornate bracers in gold that continue into a pair of brown gloves hands with similar gold panel design on the back. The legs are plain brows with a lighter for the trousers, and a darker finish for the boots. There is no weathering or further paintwork outside of the base details of the belt and bracers. The head sculpt is a strong likeness to actor Charlie Barnett and the sculptor has incorporated that slight smirking but confident smile he often has on his face, particular when interacting with Jecki Lon. The facial details are finished with printed facial technology but these is a return here of a waxy glossy finish which has plagued Black Series previously and does throw off some of the likeness with reflective light. The hair piece is impressive with its recreation of the dreadlocked side parting Yord has in the show and they have used a softer plastic here despite it not interfering with any articulation to prevent damage. Yord has the same type of removable soft goods Jedi Robes as the other three Jedi in the wave. This is tailored in so much thjat the hood is stitched into the down position round the back and the sides are pleated. Like all Black Series Jedi robes it hangs OK on the figure but lacks the folds and creases we’d expect from the real material, particularly around the arms.  Yord has his yellow-bladed Lightsaber a first for a canon Jedi figure - although Bastilla Shan did beat him to the Black Series with her dual yellow saber. The hilt is plain and finished simply in a gunmetal colour. There is a short peg near the base of the hilt which allows Yord to wear the saber hilt on his belt by way of a corresponding socket round to the right of the belt. The saber fits into either hand with the blade clipping in and out without issue. Articulation is pinless and features a significant count of 21 points of articulation overall. While the newest Black Series figures are doing away with the thigh swivel, Yord does still have his as well as a boot cut swivel and a swivel in the knee joint. This doesn’t add anything extra in terms of posing, and the thigh cut remains hidden under the lower robes so is not a particular eyesore. The thigh cut does indicate a potential doner of the legs but I haven’t identified who that might be. The upper torso has a full range of arm movement including butterfly joints and a relatively wide-ranging torso ball joint which supports Yord getting into a number of action-orientated positions with or without his lightsaber. Yord Fandar very much looks the part of a High Republic Jedi Knight and recreates his look from The Acolyte well as a Black Series 6-inch release. Expressive head sculpts are always tricky to pull off and one of the key criticisms I have with Yord is that he looks fine in neutral poses,  but any action or fighting positions are off-putting with that smirking expression he carries - although this is very much down to personal taste. The same can be said of the soft goods, which can be discarded to little detriment to the overall figure - and doing so will actually expose more of that more ornate look of the High Republic era Jedi. Padawan Jecki Lon is number 03 in the Acolyte series, connecting her Master, Sol, to her fellow Jedi Jord Fandar. The new box design also now features a colour-coordinated backing card for the figure with the deep red Acolyte colour scheme. Rather than being a plain colour backing, there is an illustration within the backing card. For Jecki this is the hallway backdrop as is also seen on the side artwork. Jecki Lon is wearing her mission Jedi robes as worn throughout her scenes in The Acolyte where she interacts only in the ‘present’ timelines. Her proportions reflect her appearance in the show, standing at least a head shorter than Master Sol, Indara and Jedi Knight Yord Fandar. The very outer yellow robes are applied over the base figure as rubberised jacket and skirt, beneath these are inner layers in cream and salmon with the upper tunic finished with a belt piece sculpted into the skirt section and painted - neatly - in black, light brown, dark brown and with a gold buckle to finish. The legs are plain sandy brown with brown boots. There is no weathering or significant paint details applied across the outfit. The head is reflective of Dafne Keen in her Theelian-Human makeup complete with pale skin and mottled orange patterning on either side of the head and also on her hands. There are six head spikes on either side of her forehead and her white hair is then added over the top and around the spikes to flow down the back of her head and neck. The Padawan braid is part of this hair piece and sits out on the right-hand side, but lacks any flexibility or moulding to sit flush to the body and has a tendency to jut straight outward defying gravity. Jecki, like the other four Jedi in the wave, comes with a tailored soft goods outer Jedi robe. While there is tailoring, it is less than seen on the other figure robes which does mean Jecki’s hood can be raised, although it is far too big and misshapen to sit over her head with any semblance of reality. Hood aside, the robes do sit reasonably well when worn with the cloth offering its usual flatness and a lack of the heavy folds we would expect from the real article. It can of course be removed depending on your preference for display. Jecki comes with her lightsaber a burgundy and silver hilt with a bright translucent green blade that can be removed if needed. When unlit the hilt can hang on Jecki’s belt by way of a peg and socket to her right hand side. It can then sit in either hand, with sufficient articulation to also allow some two handed posing. The articulation is entirely pinless and there are 18 joints that add to the movement, 19 if you include the neck which is dual-jointed although the base has no discernible movement. The arms include butterfly shoulders allowing a broader range of two-handed posing, but not to the extent of the other Acolyte Jedi with the cut of Jecki’s upper robes clashing with the arms when the butterfly joint brings them inward. Jecki does not have a thigh cut swivel on her legs improving the look and colour match of her trousers, but does get a rotation in the very well-disguised knee joints and also at the boot cut to angle the legs accordingly. She has plenty of posing options, but her smaller stature and elements of overlapping robes do not quite allow full-on dynamic poses we may get from an ‘adult’ sized figure. Jecki, the only figure in The Acolyte wave who is not human, provides a more interesting look on display alongside Sol, and Yord - and also with Indara if you ignore the fact they didn’t meet on screen. She also scales well with Mae and Osha who are similar in height. The figure is executed as we would expect from Hasbro and Jedi characters with the soft goods robes doing a job but removable and able to be discarded if they are not to your liking for display. A solid release from a property that has had its significant problems within the wider fandom - but putting this aside, a good addition for fans of the High Republic era Jedi. “The Supreme Dalek is your ruler. He must be obeyed at all times.” The B&M Exclusive History of the Dalek sets have been working through the various Doctor Who Dalek stories in more or less transmission order since 2020. When they reached the 5th Doctor era in 2023 a decision was made to skip the 1984 story Resurrection of the Daleks and only to release a Five Doctor’s set featuring Richard Hurndull’s 1st Doctor and the Death Zone Dalek . This decision was compounded by the additional choice made not to leave a numbered gap for any future Resurrection Set - creating a discrepancy in what had been to this point a very consistent collection of Dalek 2-Pack releases. In 2024 that oversight was corrected with the October 2024 B&M Exclusive release of a History of the Daleks Set from Resurrection of the Daleks. This new set uses the same updated packaging established in 2023 with a white backdrop, use of the current retro Doctor Who diamond logo, and similar diamond cut-out text boxes confirming the size and content. The exclusivity is referenced by a circular gold foil sticker stating limited edition. As well as an image of the TARDIS further colour is added in what is now a dedicated accent colour per Doctor and the 5th Doctor era is using a pale blue colour which was also in place for the Five Doctors release. In terms of the numbering, and with no gap left between Destiny of the Daleks and The Five Doctors this set is now marked as #18 following on sequentially from the slightly oddly dual numbered #16 & #17 New Series set from 2023. Around the rear of the box, we get the now standard extensive write-up of the Ressurection of the Daleks story - covering the plot in its entirety as well as its conclusion rather than teasing those to watch the serial. There is no reference to the props used during filming as has been referenced on the back of most of the earlier ‘History’ releases. While not specified on the box or in the promotional blurb, there are two variants of the set with a minor difference in the included Drone to look out for. One Drone has grey mesh behind the slats while the other has silver - replicating two different Dalek props used in the story. While these sets are badged as Collector Sets, the packaging is no longer collector friendly with the Daleks in their outer blister glued onto the blue vortex backing card. So while the outer box can be opened without any relative damage other than cutting the tape, the Daleks can only be freed by breaking the glue and effectively destroying the backing card - making the setup more like a blister card than a collector box.  The Resurrection Supreme Dalek has only been released once before, back in 2011 as part of a four-pack also including the Resurrection Drone, Davros, and the 5th Doctor. This 2024 version uses the same Classic Dalek base as this 2011 release but it upgrades several elements. The base is now the twin-stepped base, the shoulder slats are the wider profile, and an additional ring has been added just above the shoulder slats to increase the overall height.  vs 2011 Dalek Supreme (right) Colourwise the Dalek is cast almost entirely in black and the majority of this is a high gloss finish, as are the contrasting white hemispheres - both of which carry more of a sheen than the original 2011 figure which only uses a semi-gloss finish. The gun arm now features a painted red emitter at the end, while the rest of the gun and the sucker arm are a duller black. The eye stalk is cast in black but with a white-painted central stem and iris.  As mentioned, you can get two variants of the grey Drone. Both versions again use the basic Classic Dalek shell but like the Supreme now have updated twin stepped base, updated central mesh, and an increase in height by adding the rim under the neck.  The Drones are cast in a grey finish, with black painted base, hemispheres, shoulder slats, and weaponry. There is also a darker grey behind the neck rings and a central circle of black is included between the gun and the sucker arm. The eye stalk is exactly like the Supreme and cast in black with white painted central shaft and rings as well as a white iris. The first variant of the Drone features unpainted mesh behind the shoulder slats, the second variant has these elements painted in silver. Both Dalek Drone’s are finished with some marginal weathering around the skirt with drybrushing of silver paint adding wear and tear. The Drone’s also feature the same red painted emiter to their weapon arm. vs 2011 Dalek Drone (right) The Resurrection Drones have been released twice previously, the first in 2011 (shown in images) alongside the original release of the Supreme in the Resurrection 4-Pack. This earliest release used the same Classic Dalek mold but with the single ledge fender, the slimmer shoulder slats and without the added height at the neck. It also used a blue/grey colour scheme differentiating it at the time from the Genesis Dalek which used the same base and configuration apart from the eye stalk and dome lights. This 2011 release is comparable to the silver slat variant in the 2024 set. The other Resurrection Drone release was in 2013 (not shown) and was part of the Toys R Us series of Doctor vs Dalek 2-Packs. The 2014 Drone used the same base as the 2011 version but with a darker grey finish more in keeping with the Genesis Dalek colouring. This one also used painted silver mesh behind the slats. All of the Daleks feature a rotating dome, as well as an eye stalk that can be raised or lowered within its socket. The gun and sucker arm are ball joints with a wider field of motion and the entire Dalek sits on three wheels which can allow it to be pushed around and also gives it the impression of hovering over the surface on which it sits.  At the still-held price of £21.99 for 2024, this History of the Dalek pack continues to reflect good value for money of circa £11 per Dalek. It also opens up older - and very scarce - Daleks to new collectors while retaining sufficient differences to the original releases so they do not devalue massively. For Resurrection, the physical and decorative changes do improve both the Supreme and the Drone from their original releases in 2011 and the Drone’s revisit in 2013. Accuracy of colour scheme for Dalek’s can be subjective and can differ when looking at the actual prop vs what is on screen where lighting becomes a big factor. This 2024 set brings us probably the closest match to the Resurrection Daleks - replicating specifically the two Drones sent to assist Davros including the variation in mesh colouring which has been built into an on-shelf variant set. While the numbering will frustrate boxed collectors, this set does feel like the Classic Doctor Who Dalek stories are now concluded in Dalek action figure form. One of the final Action Figure themed panels of NYCC 2024 was from Diamond Select. They talked through a number of upcoming releases across their various franchise. We have summarised them below as a text-only update - check out Preternia who is covering the event live on Twitter. Diamond's 7-inch Marvel Select series is returning to the MCU finally with two figures confirmed of Deadpool and Wolverine from the recent Deadpool & Wolverine movie. Hasbro's NYCC 2024 panel was a combined event that covered all of their key lines, with seven new Star Wars Black Series figures revealed 2025 is the 20th Anniversary of Revenge of the Sith and there will be a 20th Anniversary theme through 2025 starting with a new Clone Commander Cody on the new clone body with a removable helmet and the Order 66 Palpatine hologram. This comes on retro-inspired blister packaging from the original 2005 line. This is exclusive to Walmart (Fan Channel elsewhere) and is a Spring 2025 release. The full wave of Skeleton Crew was unveiled in full and includes the four main kids from the show Wim. Fern, Neel, and KB. There is also a figure of Jude Law's Jod Na Nawood and the wave is concluded with Pirate Captain Brutus.
