McFarlane Page Punchers unveil new Transformers and G.I. Joe releases

It was slightly surreal seeing Hasbro promoting new product from McFarlane this week as the latter unveiled its first products from the new licensing agreement. Joining the 3-inch Page Punchers series are releases from Hasbro's G.I. Joe and Transformers stables.

The Page Punchers premis is a small articulated figure, packed with a related comic book. These new releases do just that and in a two-pack format giving you two figures and two comic books in each set.

Lining up for Transfromers are Optimus Prime and Megatron, and Bumblebee with Wheeljack. The G.I. Joe offerings inclde Duke & Snake Eyes, and Cobra Commander with a Crimson Guard. All four sets are general releases and have an April 2024 release date.

OPTIMUS PRIME: Optimus Prime is the noble leader of the heroic Autobots. He believes freedom is the right of all sentient beings. He carries the Matrix of Leadership, an ancient and powerful artifact that gives him upgraded abilities and knowledge of all Cybertronian history. He is beloved for his compassionate nature, steadfast leadership, and heroic feats in battle.

MEGATRON: Megatron was the merciless leader of the evil Decepticons and one of the most feared and powerful warriors to ever emerge from Cybertron. After witnessing Bumblebee's horrific murder at the hands of the savage Shockwave, Megatron forsook his leadership of the Decepticons. Now an Autobot, Megatron wears Bumblebee's badge to carry on his legacy, becoming a force for good.

BUMBLEBEE: When the Decepticons are on your tail, Bumblebee is the bot you want by your side. Smaller in size, he is often underestimated, but the Autobot scout is a warrior with a fearless spark who is always ready to defend his friends. Bumblebee has proven his worth in battle many times over and become one of the most trusted lieutenants of Optimus Prime.

"Never do what your enemy expects you to do."

WHEELJACK is the mad scientist of the Autobots. Always inventing new weapons and gadgets. Most adept at driving while in car mode. Likes to show off his stunts. Flying range of 800 miles using solid-fuel rockets in arms. Shoots magnetic inducer, shrapnel-needle and gyro-inhibitor shells from his shoulder cannons. He is his own worst enemy. Often injured while experimenting with new weapons.

DUKE: Duke was fluent in French, German, and English when he enlisted in 1967. Graduated top of his class at airborne school, Fort Benning. Opted for U.S. Army Special Language School. Specialized in Han Chinese and South East Asian dialects. Went Special Forces in 1969. Worked with tribesmen in South Vietnam. Ran four different Special Forces schools. Turned down a commission in 1971. Commands by winning respect. Current assignment: Acting First Sergeant, G.I. JOE team.

Statement after declining commission: "They tell me that an officer's job is to impel others to take the risks-so that the officer survives to take the blame in the event of total catastrophe. With all due respect, sir...if that's what an officer does, I don't want any part of it."

SNAKE EYES: Snake Eyes is proficient in 12 different unarmed fighting systems (Karate, Kung-Fu, Jujitsu) and is highly skilled in the use of edged weapons. Has received extensive training in mountaineering, underwater demolitions, jungle, desert and arctic survival, and some form of holistic medicine. Qualified Expert: All NATO and Warsaw pact small arms.

"The man is a total mystery, but he's real good at his job, heck, he's the best."

COBRA COMMANDER: Absolute power! Total control of the world...its people, wealth, and resources-that's the objective of COBRA Commander. This fanatical leader rules with an iron fist. He demands total loyalty and allegiance. His main battle plan, for world control, relies on revolution and chaos. He personally led uprisings in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and other trouble spots. Responsible for kidnapping scientists, businessmen, and military leaders, then forcing them to reveal their top level secrets.

"COBRA Commander is hatred and evil personified. Corrupt. A man without scruples. Probably the most dangerous man alive!"

CRIMSON GUARD: The Crimson Guard are the elite shock troops of the COBRA Legions. All "Sieges" must hold a degree in either law or accounting as well as being in top physical condition. Final stages of training take place in the deepest recesses of COBRA Headquarters and is purported to involve an initiation ceremony to hideous for description.

Crimson Guardsmen are too precious to be wasted on the conventional battle field. They are dispersed about the country in deep cover, assuming apparently normal appearances and life-styles. Watch out. That friendly new neighbor of yours might just have a red uniform hanging in his closet...

About Me : As a child of the '70s and '80s I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force), and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licenses - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who, and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK-focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
