McFarlane DC Multiverse releases of The Riddler, Catman, and Superboy-Prime 'Patina Edition'

McFarlane have released the details of three new DC Multiverse figures coming later this Summer. The first is the classic Riddler as previewed earlier in July. The Riddler is a general release and will come with his cane, four pair of hands, and the usual collector card and stand. Riddler is a September 2023 release.

Up next is a Gold Label Exclusive release of Catman from Villians United. Catman features a soft goods cape, alternative hands, claw hands, and a pair of knives. Catman also comes with the usual base and display stand and is an August 2023 release. He is exclusive in the US to the McFarlane Store and should have a UK release via general stockists courtesy of the Bandai UK distribution.

The final figure is a Gold Label variant of the Superboy-Prime figure from Infinite Crisis. This 'Patina Edition' features a bronzed paint job giving Superboy a statue effect. This is another McFarane Store Exclusive and it comes in the closed box collector packaging and includes stands for the figure and the included art card. The set is an August 2023 release and is limited to 4010 units. It is unclear if this will make its way to UK collectors.

Edward Nygma™ found his ticket to the big time as an employee of Wayne Industries™. Securing the role of advisor to Philip Kane— Bruce Wayne’s uncle, who ran the Wayne corporation when Bruce left to train to become the Batman™ — Nygma began plotting his takeover of the city. An expert strategist, with genius-level knowledge of history, it was not long before Nygma adopted the guise of a Super-Villain, calling himself The Riddler™!

Morally ambiguous and bored, Thomas Blake worked as a big-game hunter, tracking big cats and selling them to zoos. His cat obsession led him to a Pacifc island, home to a cat cult, from whom he stole a sacred cat carving and the cloth that covered it. Back in Gotham City, Blake became a costumed criminal equipped with feline-themed accessories inspired by Catwoman and Batman, including catarangs and a turbocharged cat-car. He eventually led the mercenaries-for-hire Secret Six, a team of anti-heroes doing as much good as they did evil acts.

An alternate reality version of Superman, Superboy-Prime comes from an Earth where the DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains were fictional characters, until the day his powers were activated and he became his world's sole superhuman. But after his planet was destroyed in the Crisis on Infinite Earths, he became unhinged over time and eventually clashed with the Super Heroes of the main DC universe in the Infinite Crisis event. Ultimately, Superboy-Prime was defeated and imprisoned in the Source Wall, the barrier that surrounds the universe, only to break free when it was destroyed years later. However, when another crisis threatened all of reality, Superboy-Prime proved himself a hero once again and helped save the DC Multiverse.

About Me : As a child of the '70s and '80s I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force), and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licenses - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who, and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK-focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
