For week 2 of the Haulathon program, NECA has revealed another new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle release from the Mirage Comics. Handyman Donatello is based on issue 11 and features Donny along with an alternative head sculpt, extra hands, a selection of tools, and a typewriter. Handyman Donatello is a Target US release as of Friday 18th of April and it will be available internationally through the Haulathon website. It is likely a wider release will follow later this year. Two new McFarlane DC Multiverse Gold Label releases are heading to Walmart in the US, with pre-orders open as of the 16th of April 2025. Up first is a new Batman figure as seen in Batman: Year One Part 4 from Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. McFarlane's new DC Multiverse release of Alfred Pennyworth, as played by Jeremy Irons in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, will open for pre-order as of the 16th of April 2025. Hasbro Star Wars Panel 11:30AM - 12:30PM, Live on the Twin Suns Stage Join Hasbro Marketing & Design team members for an in-depth look at Hasbro’s latest Star Wars offerings from throughout the saga, including the Black Series and The Vintage Collection. Word on the Holonet is there may also be a few surprises. May the Force be with you! The following is a brief summary of the key reveals (typed with blurry eyes at 4am in the morning), and we will expand on this and share any images in due course. The Black Series reveals commenced ahead of the panel with two new figures from Andor Season 2 shown off at the Hasbro Booth. Director Krennic in ceremonial uniform with soft goods cape. and the ISB Tactical Agent are both Target US exclusives. We can also see the Andor Range Trooper with rocket launcher in the background of one image. (images from syndicate_customs_creations) The main panel kicked off with a look a the Celebration Star Wars Visions Exclusives before moving on to the reveals.' The Shadows of the Empire series continues with Dash Rendar, who will arrive in Summer 2025. Also due for release in Summer 2025 from Jedi: Survivor is a new deluxe 'build up' pack with a new Cal Kestis with variant heads, Turgle and Snoova. Stev. This is an Amazon Exclusive. Cal is joined by Merrin who is a single release in the Summer of 2025 in the mainline collection. Continuing the mainline reveals, the next reveal was for a newly tooled Han Solo from A New Hope, another Summer 2025 release. And alongside Han Solo comes an updated Chewbacca. Han, Chewie, and Merrin are the three other figures from Wave 22 alongside the previously announced Ezra Bridger and Night Trooper from Ahsoka. There were Jedi: Survivor releases in the Vintage Collection also with Nightsister Merrin also coming in the 3,75 inch scale in Summer 2025. There will also be a Summer 2025 release of a Rocket Launcher Stormtrooper from Jedi: Survivor. These are both Mainline releases Also, a Mainline release is a new figure of Cobb Vanth from The Mandalorian / Book of Boba Fett (without the Boba Fett armour). And from the last season of The Mandalorian, we have a mainline release of Moff Gideon in his Dark Trooper Armour. Again, these are Summer 2025 releases. The reveals then moved onto The Bad Batch and a new Vintage Collection crosshair, a further Mainline release for Summer 2025. “Die wanna wanga” As Return of the Jedi celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2023, Hasbro released a third set of Black Series anniversary figures from the original trilogy, carded rather than boxed, and using the original Kenner card artwork. The Return of the Jedi Anniversary series was spread over 3 waves, supplemented by further exclusive carded figures as well as a boxed pack of Jabba the Hutt. Bib Fortuna had already been released in the mainline of the Black Series in 2022 but was revisited for the 40th Anniversary Series. Fortuna’s card back features the same image still and coloured backing panel as the original Kenner figure - and even includes the Kenner logo in its usual place. The only modern addition on the card front is the 40th Anniversary logo in the top left corner. Around the back of the card and there is a blended approach to the design with elements retained from the Kenner figures of 1983 but with the use of the modern Black Series logo as well as a checklist of the other 40th Anniversary figures, notably the other figures in this 2nd Wave of ROTJ Anniversary figures including the Stormtrooper, Paploo, Chewbacca, and Emperor Palpatine. As it was in 1983, the card cannot be opened without some level of damage, so it is aimed more at MOC collectors, although, as we will see the figure itself is a minor upgrade on the original 2022 release. Bib Fortuna is naturally based on his scenes in Jabba’s Palace during the events of Return of the Jedi. He is wearing an overlapping layered grey robe cast in softer plastic which sits over the base of the figure itself cast in blue/turquoise coloured parts with grey inserted ‘armour’ around his midriff, and a lower softer plastic skirt that is inclusive of further armour panels. The arms extended out to fingerless gloves with painted skin tone and ywllowing nails, and a little further up the arm a pair of grey studded bracers. The head is a strong likeness to actor Michael Carter in full make up including the twin head tails which extend from the rear of the skull and are curled around the shoulders, sitting on top of the grey-robed section. Bib Fortuna’s red eyes are evident beneath that overhanging twin-lobed brow with a thin red mouth picked out in facial printing tech application. The original figure was criticised over heavy handed blue wash on the face and lekku. This 40th Anniversary revisition dials this back considerably so that blue is a hinted hue only, and the result is a much more accurate Bib Fortuna for your display. vs Galaxy Collection Release 2022 (right) It is worth noting at this point that the outer grey robes are removable, and the blue/turquoise body beneath is fully coloured. It is very reflective in this shape of the original Kenner figure from 1983, often found without its robes and armour. The proportions here are a little skinny, and it does make the head look oversized, although this look is nothing more than nostalgia for collectors rather than any direct recreation of a screen-accurate look. Bib Fortuna did not use a staff in the ROTJ scenes, but the Kenner figure did include one with a twisted shaft, and that was recently made canon in so much they featured it in Bib’s short-lived return in the end credits of The Mandalorian, Season 2. Hasbro chose not to include this in the original release of Fortuna, and despite setting a precedent by releasing a Kenner-inspired Admiral Ackbar with his Kenner baton, they have again chosen to leave the 40th Anniversary Bib without his staff for this nostalgic release. Instead, we get the same trio of cups that have done the rounds from the Cantina Bar scene in 2021 to their recent inclusion in the 2024 Momaw Nadon release. Each cup is slightly different in its design, with the largest featuring a sliver of decor where a black rim has been added. They fit into either of Bib’s hands if you do decide to use them for display. Articulation on Fortuna is very much standard but is restricted heavily by his robes. There are 16 points in total, 8 of which are across the legs and include double-jointed knees, thanks to the parts being carried over from the Dryden Vos figure from Solo. These are limited in their movement thanks to the skirt and the outer robes. These legs also seem to be difficult to seat flat to the floor with Bib having a tendency to topple forward or backward. The arms are a standard combination of shoulder, single elbow and wrist pivot joints and work outward through a slit in the robes to be reasonably expressive, although that mainly uses the elbow and wrist with the shoulder having no where to go. The final joints at the head and torso allow some level of forward bowing motion, as seen when Bib addresses Jabba, but it is not as wide-ranging as we might like and is again held back by the robes.  While I appreciate that the 40th Anniversary releases are more around the nostalgia of the packaging than the figure itself, there are missed opportunities with this re-release of Bib that have been taken on other releases in the same programme. While the improved skin tone is a significant enhancement over the 2022 release, I’d have preferred the cups to have disappeared and for a Kenner-inspired staff to be included - as was done with Ackbar. There is also an argument still that Bib Fortuna’s robes should have featured a degree of soft goods inclusion, a hybrid solution like the recent Episode III Palpatine and something that was done to the Emperor figure in this same wave where the original plastic skirt was changed. Making a change to some level of soft goods for the outer robes would have assisted in the articulation and display of a figure who, in this current form, can do very little other than stand in a single position and move his arms around. Curating an action figure collection is a complex business. We are challenged not only by the cost of our hobby but also the space in which to display it and the means of display with figures a particular magnet to dust and also prone to damage by exposure to UV light over time. I am personally working through a project converting my spare room to an office with display space for my various collections and while I have utilised glass cabinets where possible, there are larger pieces and space considerations where a different solution is needed. Enter iDisplayit and their innovative flat-packed and affordable clear acrylic display cases. You may remember we took a look at some of their products last year in this article , but to recap each case is designed to be shipped flat packed and assembled on site using some minimally intrusive plastic inserted connectors and metal screws. Bases are provided in white and gloss, with some designs also incorporating a backing image specific to a particular piece. While the iDisplayit stocks do contain sized cases designed for specific Lego models in particular, there flexible line is a perfect solutuon for action figure displays either for single pieces or diorama's and group displays as seeen in our examples from our previous article using a couple of their smaller cases. This April, we've teamed up with iDisplayit once again for a look at the larger side of their collector cases and how space can be maximised and larger pieces protected. We're also running a Mephitsu Archives specific discount between the 1st and 30th of April, allowing you to pop over to iDisplayit and save 10% on any display case (excluding postage and packing) As I come towards the end of my 'display room' project and with the aim of maximising every surface, I found myself with the top of the often-used Billy Bookcases utilised for the larger displays and pieces. That leaves any pieces positioned on the top of other cabinets open to dust exposure and the need for regular cleaning, so I really wanted to explore a display case solution. Within the iDisplayit portfolio of cases are the larger scale pieces designed for those bigger Lego models or larger display pieces and dioramas. We picked out a white based case 78 x 26 x 30cm Display Case (ref. EC782630NS-WHI) and it was one of those that suited my 'space' perfectly. The larger cases are delivered and assembled in exactly the same fashion as the smaller pieces we looked at last year. The base is a coloured plastic (white in our piece) which includes slotted sections around the edge. Into these sit the sides and front/back of the piece which are connected by the clear inserted sockets and corresponding metal screws which are tightened up using the inlcuded allen key. Due to the size of the case we are looking at this time around there were additional fixings for the top of the case to prevent it from sagging. Once built, the entire case top can be lifted off and put to one side while your display is assembled. Before I set up my permanent display that this case is going to house going forward, I took the time to explore what sort of capacity you can get into these larger pieces starting with a Marvel Legends eclectic setup featuring the larger pieces such as Mojo, the Super-Adaptoid and the recent Sam Wilson Captain America with his wingsuit unfurled. The case also has ample room for the larger Dungeons and Dragons creatures, with plenty of space even with Xanathar the Beholder in central position and flanked by Owl Bears and a handful of other figures. The Star Wars Black Series - the largest of my personal collection - has a number of behicles that are space-hungry for display. The case took four Speeder Bikes easily, recreating the chase scenes on Endor, but will also easily accommodate Luke's Landspeeder and the larger Enfys Nest Speeder. While this case wouldn't fit in the larger Snowpseeder, there are sufficient options on the iDisplayit website to have that housed on display - either landed or in flight with an appropriate after-market acrylic flight support. I even threw in some carded Black Series 40th Anniversary figures to see how they looked, and while this is a lot of space for just four figures, they did look mighty impressive. We can, of course, go bigger. Here are some McFarlane Space Marines with a couple of squads representing the Blood Angels and Ultramarines. And there is even room for a full NECA Alien Queen - complete with Bishop and some Eggs - facing off against the NECA Power Loader driven by Ripley. But what of the actual reason for picking this case from i iDisplayit ? Well, this was to accommodate part of my Ghostbusters collection, notably the front part of the Diamond Select rooftop diorama, adorned with the Hasbro Plasma series figures and menaced at the back by the Diamond Select Stay Puft money box. I think it looks fantastic while also protecting my figures and diorama against dust. For the purpose of the article and images, all of the shots were taken in situ on top of a half-size Billy cabinet where the display case can be lifted on and off its base and the contents easily changed. The case has now moved to a final position on top of a full-size Billy. This does pose a logistical issue in that the ceiling prevents the case from being lifted on and off its base. This can be overcome by making use of the iDisplayit fixing design - and I simply put the case in situ empty, then unfastened the front panel - loaded it up with figures - then fixed it back in position. The second picture above shows the case in its final location - and perhaps a second case will be needed later this year to house a companion piece... As a noted point for anyone else looking to replicate this on a Billy Bookcase, you might need some small filler pieces under the stand to account for the two slightly raised edges that Ikea build into these cases - a piece of acrylic or sheet timber around 3mm thick will be sufficient to even out the surface. “Battle Droids! I'm on them!” Following a run of single releases since its inception in 2020, the Gaming Greats sub-line of the Star Wars Black Series branched out into multi-packs in 2024 with two trios from the Star Wars Jedi games and exclusive to Amazon globally. That series continues in 2025 with a pair of two-pack releases, the first of which is taken from the Battlefront II videogame by EA. As is the core principle of most Gaming Greats releases, the set re-uses the existing figures of the Clone Commando and the B1 Battle Droid to bring us two variants seen in the Battlefront II game - the Urban Fighter Clone Commando and the Training B1 Battle Droid. Both are playable skins in the game, with the B1 Training Droid having its origins back in Season 3 of the Clone Wars series, and the episode ‘Clone Cadets’. The set is packed into a new format rectangular box, widened from the standard releases to accommodate both figures. It uses the same matt black base colour and overlays this with the turquoise colouring assigned within the Galaxy Collection for Gaming Greats releases. This colouring extends to the side artwork, which is a 50:50 split of both figures. The set is not numbered and does not directly connect to a wider montage for the Gaming Greats. The back of the box features a brief overview of both figures and carries a wider image of both on either side. The cardback, sitting behind the figure tray inside, features the same blue colouring as the artwork and text, but incorporates the backdrop from the Battlefront II character selection screens. As you can see from one of our pictures, having Amazon handle this as an exclusive globally is going to cause issues for many collectors, as a lot of sets are being shipped without an outer box and with a shipping label and barcodes stuck all over the back. These stickers, and the fact that the box is unprotected in transit, will cause issues for boxed collectors with the residue of the stickers extremely difficult to remove even with applied heat and gentle solutions. Amazon are now showing out of stock, so they won’t replace any units, only offer a refund using their standard returns process. Starting with the B1 Battle Droid and this is the same B1 sculpt  that has been in circulation since 2019. This time round, the entirety of the figure is cast in a white plastic with no further application of paint on the internal joints, or to add weathering. What we do get are golden bullseye targets applied on the chest, head, shoulders, elbows and hips - most likely as decal applications as they are too crisp to be painted. The only other decor is the split circular eyes, added in black to the head.  If you look at the Training Droid skins in Battlefront II this is the basic Trooper and the one with the least decor, but in the game, the droids still include darker panel lines and grey/silver around the joints. The other classes of Heavy, Specialist, and Officer all included additional orange markings, and any of these other three would have presented a more visually impressive droid. The standard B1 backpack is included, slotting into place using the shaped sockets on the figure's back. It is the same base white plastic and features two further bullseye targets on the reverse. The twin aerial extends up out of the pack for some further variation of the figure, and the blaster can be holstered using the socket function on the right hand side. The blaster itself is the E-5 Blaster Rifle, again the same piece that has been in circulation since 2019. Unlike the earlier versions of this gun that featured a gun metal finish and dry brushing, this version for the Training Droid is plain grey with no decor of any description to enhance what is a pretty detailed sculpt. As well as holstering, the weapon can be handled using the three-pronged droid hand with sufficient articulation for two-handed grips and firing positions. While the articulation on the Training Droid remains the same 18 points as the original release, these have been feeling and working much better over recent years, with this B1 Droid feeling pretty secure and stable out of the box compared to the earlier models, which often were difficult to keep standing. The joints are all worked in as part of the sculpt and mimic the joints on the Battle Droid props with large circular gears around the main jointed areas, such as the knees, hips, elbows and shoulders. The torso joint is the least mobile, offering a partial ab-crunch designed around a central hinge and the two supporting pieces. The head is ball-jointed at the top of the neck and can be turned and pivoted, with a second joint on the rear section of the head moving outward so it doesn’t clash with the neck. The entire neck piece also extends up and out of the chest, allowing the neck and head to be folded downward into the deactivated folded position. We move now to the Clone Commando and the rare Urban Fighter skin playable in the game. The figure utilises the existing Clone Commando body, a body that originates with the first figures from The Bad Batch and the first figure of Hunter  from 2021. The figure is engineered in a similar fashion to the normal Clone Troopers with white cast armoured panels connected with ribbed black joints to reflect the Commando’s undersuit. While most of the parts are left in their base colour, there are elements where sections have been overpainted. Thankfully, this is in black around the lower legs and lower arms, so while the edge finish is not quite as crisp, the black is forgiving enough to cover up the white below fully. Looking closely at the armour you can also see battle damage sculpted into the panels with some gouging and scratching visible on the chest, shoulder pauldron’s and midsection. There is no further paintwork to enhance these, leaving the Commando with a clean, factory-floor finish. Our Commando comes with the standard backpack, a slight deviation from the one used within Battlefront, but close enough when we consider these exclusive Gaming Greats packs rarely introduce new pieces. It slots onto the rear of the figure by way of a shaped socket, and uses the same base white plastic and overpainted green and red markings. A few other details are added around what appears to be a control panel, picked out in gun metal. And like the body, the backpack includes sculpted ‘wear and tear’ with scratches evident around the piece. The markings of the Urban Fighter are applied onto the white armour with an olive green base applied to the chest, upper arms, lower gauntlets, hands and knee panels. Over this are further burgundy markings in a triangular design on the chest, with further black striping on the shoulder pauldrons. The helmet, cast in white and non-removable, features the same colour scheme with green and red trim around the reflective blue of the visor. Within all of the markings, there are no dings or scratches as seen in the game. The original Hunter figure was always off proportionally, despite the Black Series' usual principles of converting animated, stylised characters into a real-world setting. This has translated through to every figure since using the Commando base, leaving them without the bulkier armour we are used to seeing in games like Battlefront II and prior to this, Republic Commando. Elements of the Hunter base figure are also left without resolution on subsequent re-use, so our Urban Fighter still carries a large socket in the left gauntlet where Hunter’s knife sheath was originally.  The sole accessory of our Commando is the DC-17m Clone Commando Blaster Rifle, another direct re-use from the original Bad Batch figures and subsequent Clone Commando releases. This is plain grey with no paint apps to bring out what is a detailed sculpt. It fits only in the Commando’s right hand, the left lacks the trigger finger to hold it. Despite the size of the backpack, there is no function for stowing or holstering the blaster on the figure.  There are 17 points of pinless articulation on our Commando, a relatively standard format for the 2019 era figures. The key miss is a butterfly shoulder, which might have helped arm movement, but there is sufficient range in the joints for two-handed weapon positions, including raising it up to fire. The legs are clunky in their movement and are not helped aesthetically by the large overhanging knee armour panels, which are fixed and do not move with the joints. The body itself includes a decent range within the torso ball joint, and the head and helmet include a dual joint neck, allowing a broader level of movement for the head. While the Amazon Gaming Greats Exclusive multi-packs to date have focused on more recent gaming content, such as Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor, this Battlefront II pack seems a bit of a lazy release, even within a line that recycles existing figures into new designs. There are plenty of other Battlefront II skins to go after, most better looking than the designs chosen here. Paintwork and decor is sorely missing on both figures. The B1 needs more contrast to the base white and needs the panel lines and ‘wear and tear’  seen in the game. The Commando markings are relatively accurate, but again lack the weathering and battle damage we see on the game skin.  The set is going to be further hampered by the way Amazon are handling these, shipping many without outer boxes and with damaging labels covering the packing itself. When we consider this is a £45 item aimed at the collector market, then this level of handling is pretty poor overall. One for the purists, or maybe one to monitor for future discounts - while it is currently out of stock at the time of writing, there are usually restocks on these lines and deep cuts in price to be had if you keep a close eye on them.
