  • New Doctor Who 5" figures being announced - up first 10th Doctor in Tuxedo

Underground Toys US announce a new 5" figure of the 10th Doctor in Tuxedo. The figure looks o include an updated David Tennant head sculpt. The body may be reused from a 3rd Doctor figure. This version of the 10th Doctor, in his Tuxedo, was first seen in the Season 2 double header Rise of the Cyberman / Age of Steel. He would go on to wear it again in The Lazarus Experiment from Series 3 and in the Christmas Special Voyage of the Damned. As yet there are no clear details on how this will be sold in the US or UK. Previous Underground Toys exclusives have been sold by Forbidden Planet International in the UK, but more recently Toys R Us have also been involved. It seems that this figure is also not the only one, with four more announcements to be made. The first of these is due Monday 17th October and this teaser has been posted in advance... let the guesses begin?

  • Rogue One Trailer 2 : what new figure possibilities does it throw up?

Well the 2nd trailer for Rogue One is here and has been shared like crazy across all social media platforms. Rather than analyse the trailer to death, I'd like to stick to what we do best - Action Figures - and try and pick out anything new in the trailer we may end up getting (next year now) in the Hasbro range particularly who always go much deeper on movie's than Disney Elite and Bandai. It was interesting there is no real focus on the Shore Troopers who have a fleeting appearance in the beach battle, and the Death Troopers only show up once - with more focus on the Original Storm Trooper design. It therefore seems a no-brainer that Hasbro will re-issue these in the 6" Black Series. You would also assume the "disguises" that Jyn and Cassian are wearing would also translate to a figure as the head sculpts are already done and both bodies can be used elsewhere - potential future exclusive options if they can push them through before the Episode 8 marketing begins? Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelson) is a character we've not really seen yet, and as interesting as his role is in the movie I am not sure he will make a great figure. On the flip side Saw Gerrera (Forrest Whitaker) looks great and with us already getting him from Hasbro in 3.75" a 6" figure would be nice too. And what about a Rogue One era Mon Mothma, is Hasbro brave enough to give us a "non action" female figure in either range? Background figures like Edrio Two-Tubes or the Rebel Soldiers or Officers may not be forthcoming in the 6" scale after Hasbro were maybe burned by Zuvio last year, and to a lesser degree the Guavian Enforcer - especially when we still need Bodi Rook to round out the Rebels at 6" scale. We know Two-Tubes will at least make it to the 3.75" range, The movie also gives us a real opportunity for some figures that could span both Rogue One and A New Hope - the Death Star Trooper being the key one for me, and hopefully the Death Star Gunner too as you have to think they show up somewhere in the movie. There are also plenty of Imperial Officers floating around, none more so than Krennic who it seems will show up as the Director (figure we've seen) and as flashback to an earlier time. These officer sculpts would no doubt lend themselves well to being tweaked into some other Trilogy officers - particularly a Tarkin or even a Thrawn? Star Wars Rogue One fever is officially here in Mephitsu Towers. Keep checking back for our Rogue One figure reviews.... You can also join the discussion on Facebook and let us know what figures you are looking forward to or wishing will make it to store shelves.

  • Store Report : HMV stocking Marvel Select 7" figures

I had to look twice whilst in HMV today as they had a Diamond Select Deadpool 7" figure on sale with their other merchandise. HMV are moving into memorabilia, particularly with Funko, but very interesting to see a Diamond Select figure amongst the offerings - a range usually restricted to Comic Books and Specialists? The price was £29.99 so quite a bit above usual on shelf price. And I suspect the reason for this item being in store would be around Deadpool's current profile and popularity. It is however one to watch if you have an HMV near you.

  • Store Report : Disney Store

The Mephitsu Archives rolled into Meadowhall in Sheffield earlier today and we headed over to the Disney Store to check out what was on offer. Rogue One was obviously heavly promoted, with a pretty much full set of Elite figures in the blue & silver Rogue One boxes, these were £19.99. There was also a few older Force Awakens Elite's - unmasked Kylo Ren and Poe Dameron. In the 3.75" range there was just 5 left on the shelf - an Imperial Ground Crew and a few Kylo Ren's. One of the things I went in to checkout was the new Star Wars Elite 5-pack, which is in store but merchandised on a central display and not with the other Elite's. The retail on this is £99.99 for 5 figures. Four of them are re-releases - Kylo, Phasma, Finn in Stormtrooper armour and Flametrooper. The new addition, and he looks great, is the Heavy Weapon Stormtrooper. This Disney Elite Multi-Pack is now online, so worth keeping an eye out for voucher offers coming up to Christmas if you want to save a few £ For Marvel fans I can confirm the Marvel Legend 4-pack was on shelves. This is a Civil War pack containing Captain America and Iron-Man and then packed with the exclusive Falcon (single packed in Asda) and War Marchine (US exclusive via Target). This pack retails at £89.99, so the same price as buying 4 single Marvel Legends. Sadly, there was no sign of the new Marvel Select Exclusive "Blue Head" Doctor Strange. Got to love that HUGE 3.5" figurine Marvel pack you can see in our images above and below. £44.99 for 20 figures - including pieces like Thanos, Loki, Doctor Strange and Black Panther.

  • NECA's latest #Facehugger Friday tease - what is this mystery Alien Xenomorph?

NECA have tweeted the following image with the commentary "Some bts for #facehuggerfriday a little something that might find its way into Series 11 along w/ Lambert & the Clear Blue Kenner Warrior" This appears to be either another Kenner inspired Alien or a comic based Xeno rather than being true to any of the movies. Twitter, Facebook and the various online groups are debating anything from the Kenner Scorpion to the Panther to a Defiance Comic Drone. It seems that we won't find out for sure just yet and it may be as far out as Toy Fair 2017 when the full Series 11 line up is revealed.

  • Shoretrooper from Bandai - three options for the kit

It is probably no coincidence that Bandai have released more details and images of their Rogue One 1/12 kits during the first day of NYCC 2016. One of the key points made is that their 1/12 Shore Trooper kit will be manufactured so that the collector can build three variant versions of the Shoretrooper. The kit will use a combination of decals and individual coloured and swap out parts so you can choose to build The Trooper The Squad Leader Or the Captain
