Underground Toys US have been revealing a number of new 5" scale Doctor Who figures over the past couple of weeks. We have seen a 10th Doctor in Tuxedo, 10th Doctor TARDIS Playset and a new 12th Doctor - now the 4th figure in this batch of announcements have been revealed, and it is another 12th Doctor. This new Doctor shares the same sculpt as the previously announced version, but with paint variations giving him the black T-Shirt and plain black trousers (see right below) The announcement is still being listed as a US market figure, with no details if this will be released outside of the states - although we would suspect they will be via Character Options directly in the UK. The announcement was tinged with frustration as Underground also confirmed the 5th figure in this planned batch has been cancelled before it was even revealed?

Back in June 2016 Playmobil confirmed that for the first time in their history they are moving into Film licences with their Playmobil figures and playsets, the first of these being Ghostbusters. This deal is not the same as the one with Funko who are using the Playmobil figure image but blown up to a larger 6" scale - this one is actual Playmobil 3" figures and playsets from your favourite movies. The first promotional images of the Ghostbuster line have now been released, and they look brilliant. They are also all based it seems on the 1984 original movie, with no inclusion as yet for Ghostbuster 2 or the 2016 Reboot. Taking the images it seems we can expect the following sets, and these will hit stores in 2017 1. Ecto-1 2. Stay Puft Marshmallow Man 3. Firehouse 4. Slimer and Food Cart 5. Ghost Pack 6. Terror Dog Pack

Back at NYCC 2016, SH Figuarts had a mock up in their display for a 1/12 Deadshot Action Figure as part of their Suicide Squad range. At this weeks Tamashii Nations 2016 event in Japan, we got our first look at this figure. As yet no more details are known.

Review : Dana Barrett Ghostbusters Select (Diamond Select) Wave/Series : Series 2 Released : July 2016 Price : £19.95 - £22.95 Dana Barrett, or Zuul The Gatekeeper her her official title, is the 3rd figure of the 2nd wave of Ghostbusters Select figures from Diamond Select Toys. She was released in July 2016 alongside Egon Spengler and Peter Venkman in the 3 figure series. You have to applaud Diamond for taking the Ghostbusters licence and going really deep with the figures rather than sticking to the four key characters. Dana follows Louis Tully (The Key Master) into the series, and further down the line we will also be getting the likes of Walter Peck and Janine. Dana arrives in the bumper size Select packaging, designed with a deep green ethereal background which fades to black at the bottom of the card back. Down the familiar side panel on the front is the Ghostbusters logo as well as Diamond's own Select monogram. Off this is the triangular character panel which uses a head shot of Sigourney Weaver from the film. Overlaid onto this is the character name of Dana Barrett. The same image of weaver is blown up and adorns the full side panel on the left hand side of the packaging and this is only broken by the Ghost logo at the base of this panel. Round the back we find the GB logo again at the top, surrounded by some electrical lightning effects. Under this to the right is an image of the figure itself and to the left of this is a couple of paragraphs about Dana and her role in the 1984 classic. Under the text is the "also available" box with images of Venkman and Egon. The bottom of the card back finishes with a silhouetted image of the four Ghostbusters firing their proton streams. There is also the ongoing advertising stamp that if you "collect all 15 figures to complete the rooftop". This wording has of course been corrected after the initial series 1 figure quoted the original plan of 12 figures. Out of the pack and Dana is clipped into the inner perspex tray, with two spare right hands and forearms clipped to her right. The facial sculpt is nothing more than a passing resemblance to Sigourney Weaver, and goes nowhere close to what NECA have been throwing out on their Aliens wave using the same likeness from a similar era (mid 1980's). The sculpt is not helped by some pretty heavy handed paint applications with thick black lines around the eyes. There is also an odd effect applied to the cheeks and forehead to almost make them look dirty. Both the eyes and this skin application is an attempt to replicate the very heavy makeup Weaver wore in her scenes possessed as Zuul, but it fails to emulate this sunken possessed look from the film by quite a distance. The hair on the other hand is well done sculpturaly, swept back from the face and with plenty of volume as was the case in the 80's. It then flows nicely down the neck and over the shoulders. Paint apps here are also not great as the hair has simply been painted a general brown tone and then washed in an almost black wash to add some depth. It would have benefited from a dry-brush here and there to add some highlights. The dress that the figure wears is a very soft sculpt and lacks a lot of detail, it is also quite a way off in terms of missing the big floating sleeves and the opalescent sparking look of the original prop. Granted a lot of it couldn't have been carried over to a figure while maintaining articulation, but here it feels lazy and hasn't really pushed on any boundaries. The folds in the cloth are all soft and gooey, as though it is some kind of Playdoh rather than material. The paint job is then a single metallic copper tone across the whole dress with only a darker bronze trim used round the belt and the base of the dress - and this darker colour should have really continued in the inner lining of the dress to match the film. The skin tones outside of the head are flat and one tone. The legs in particular are very one dimensional down to the bare feet, and here again the sculpt is soft and lacking definition. The hands only swap out on the right arm, and only give you three different hand positions and to be fair don't add anything to the figure. Articulation starts with a ball jointed head, and there is a surprising amount of movement despite that bouffant 80's hair style. Both arms are ball jointed shoulders with a further 90 degree elbow bend and wrist rotation. There is a torso joint but no waist movement and the legs are pretty much held static by the skirt, although Dimaond have still chosen to go with a double joint knee that can't do much bending of any description. The ankles are on rockers but are no help in the stability of the figure which is practically zero and you will likely have to go with some form of stand to keep Dana upright on your display. And upright is actually the wrong way for this figure as the two iconic poses you would want Dana in would be the levitation pose from her apartment, or her sitting on the stone slab on the rooftop. Now the levitation pose, as you can see from some of our images, is do-able with a flight stand of some kind although the hair and dress don't completely follow the rules of gravity. Without a waist joint or the ability to bend the hip joints there is no way to sit Dana on the stone slab on the rooftop and sadly because she has been sculpted standing up she looks stiff and awkward when laid down. I would have much preferred to see Diamond go down a route they've used before on older Marvel Select and Star Trek Select figures by packing Dana with two lower halves - one standing and one laying. Opportunity missed sadly. Dana comes with another two parts of the rooftop. These are still thankfully cast in the same colour plastic as the other releases to date. We will take a look at the full rooftop when we hit Series 5 in Summer 2017. Now, before I render a score on Dana Barrett let's go back to the opening statement and bear in mind that Diamond could have taken the Ghostbusters licence and churned out a number of the main 4 characters and called it a day. Instead they have committed to doing at least 15 figures from the 1984 movie and will give us secondary characters like Dana for our display as well as some ghosts to liven things up. It is obvious that the budget has gone heavily on the 4 key characters, with Dana suffering the same as Louis Tully in that it is a soft sculpt with a low level paint job and no accessories to bolster the release. I do applaud Diamond for even tackling this figure, but would also then state that I think I would rather have had a Dana done right that could enhance my display than one that feels a bit halfhearted. Hobby-Maniax has shared a number of images direct from the SH Figuarts display at the Tamashii Nations 2016 event. Within the display are a number of new reveals. The WWE line looks to be expanding past the three figures already confirmed and The Undertaker and Vince McMahon will be joining HHH, Stone Cold and the Rock in this 1/12 collectors line. For Streetfighter we already knew about Ryu and Chun Li and now Rashid will be added as a 3rd Streetfighter release. There is then a first look at the Pokemon range of figures with Ash, Pikachu and Team Rocket.

Today I took a trip out to Toys R Us on the off chance the sporadic reports of the 6" Black Series Hover Tank Pilot showing up may be true of my Toys R Us (Preston). Sadly, there was no sign of the Black Series exclusive - but there were some new goodies to talk about First up was the 13 Doctor set from Character Options, a brand new release in their 5" Doctor Who range. The set regurgitates figures for all 13 Doctors but with some significant paint job changes. The on shelf price is £99.99 and online stocks at Toys R Us have already sold out - although this will include those who will buy this to split down and sell for a profit on eBay or similar. There was then these funky new 5" limited POA Guardians of the Galaxy figures hidden down an aisle at £9.99 each. This smaller, more basic, scale is the same as they are already putting out for Spiderman and are based on the animated shows rather than the movies. The figures are bright and bold and are cheap enough to bring something different to a Marvel collection. It is worth mentioning that Groot looks small, but is packed with his legs seperate and once assembled he will be suitablaly taller vs the other Guardians.

NECA have confirmed the full details of their upcoming stand-alone release of the Kenner inspired Predator Clan Leader. The figure will arrive in boxed packaging, akin to that being used on the Ultimate releases to date - with a beautifully illustrated blister card depiction on the front cover. The figure is due to start shipping towards the end of November. Our newest Predator Deluxe Action Figure is an homage to a figure that was also a deluxe release in the classic Kenner Expanded Universe line: Clan Leader! Taking inspiration from the 1990s designs, our team has applied modern sculpting, detail and articulation to bring this vintage Predator into the new millennium, resulting in our most complex Predator figure yet. And at 8.5” tall, he’s also the biggest figure in the 7” scale Predator line to date – bigger even than the previous Bad Blood Deluxe Action Figure. Clan Leader has over 30 points of articulation and comes with spectacular bendable tentacles that can attach to his shoulders or his wrists, plus a removable helmet and a unique staff. The Deluxe window box packaging with opening flap is a nod to the classic line as well, featuring a design that pays tribute to the original packaging.

Disney store have finally confirmirmed it's next two Star Wars Elite figures will be Han Solo from Episode 7 and the First Order Storm Trooper Officer from the same film. The two new figures will hit "selected" stores as of 1st of November, although at this point this has only been confirmed in the US and Canada - although we suspect that the UK will get these at some point. US price is $26.95 and if these hit UK they will be £19.95. What we don't know is how "selected" these will be? Will they be a full release, or in the same type of numbers as we saw the Prequal and Original Trilogy Elites last year?

SH Figuarts are returning to the very early days of the Marvel Universe with this Mark 6 armour, as seen in Iron Man 2 and then into Avengers Assemble. The figure will be a Tamashii Webstore exclusive, so not the easiest to obtain outside of Japan. The cost is down to be 6480 yen (£51 / $62) and the due date is April 2017. Also coming in April is the Hall of Armour compartment which will include LED lighting. This will retail at 4860 yen, a very reasonable £38 / $47

Medicom have announced they too will move to Rogue One product for 2017, and have confirmed a MAFEX Death Trooper will be released in August next year (yes that is nearly 12months away). The Death Trooper will be packed with two head options, one standard and one with added gear above the left eye to make the Specialist trooper. Also included will be the Specialist pauldron and ammunition pouches. He will come with three weapons. Price wise the initial listing is for an RRP of 5800 Yen - that's £46 or $56 (plus a bit more on top for import and p&p).

New 5.5" scale 12th Doctor, Peter Capaldi, announced by Underground Toys. The figure looks to be an all new sculpt, including a re-do of the Capaldi head. The costume was as worn by Capaldi in Series 9 with the hooded jacket, waistcoat, T-shirt and checked trousers. The Doctor also comes with his new Sonic Screwdriver.

Another image has been shared by NECA showing the early prototype for the 7" scale Aliens Auto-Gun, as seen in Aliens Special Edition. This upcoming "Colonial Marine Arsenal" pack looks like it will contain two Auto-Guns as well as various other weaponary and some weapon effects.
