“I’m as Human as anyone.” As James Gunn’s Superman hit cinema screens in July 2025, McFarlane Toys unveiled their 7-inch DC Multiverse offerings for the film. At launch, this included two versions of Superman, a standard release and a more deluxe version - the Theatrical Edition - which added in additional hands as well as including Krypto. Soon afterwards, a third release of Coronswet’s Superman would start to hit shelves, and for the first time in its history, McFarlane’s DC Multiverse released a budget carded figure. These slimmed-down ‘affordable’ options were made in the US for Ross ‘Dress for Less’, and these have now made their way over the pond to the UK through the UK Distributor Bandai. Our review copy was bought at Forbidden Planet and was priced at £18.99 The carded packaging retains the same principles as the boxed DC Multiverse releases, with a black backdrop, a blue design backing panel behind the figure in its blister, the character name in bold white with the source material underneath in blue. The cards retain the same lower strip as the boxes with the McFarlane logo, and at the top left, the new 2025 DC Multiverse logo. Around the back, there is the same stylised artwork of the character with no background text or checklist of other releases. Unlike the boxed figures, the figure packaging is practically destroyed in some fashion upon opening. Superman is a smidge over 7 inches in height, which is not quite accurate if we assume this is a true 1/10 scale. He is also shorter than the Ultraman figure, who is more accurately sized at 7.5 inches tall, equating to 6ft 6, considering who is behind the mask. Superman is wearing his iconic costume as seen across the 2025 movie. Each element is cast in the base colour, with both blue and red components also featuring the texture of the costume as well as the lined details around the chest, arms, and legs. The groin area is a rubberised piece sitting over the hip joints with a yellow painted belt. The boots are also individual pieces, slipped and glued over the lower shins, which gives them a crisp transition that you might not get with painting. The Superman logo on the chest front is painted and less detailed around the edges, with blue edges still visible and the yellow at the very edges of the panel still showing the darker blue underneath, so they take on a green tinge.  Superman’s cape is plastic, cast in a textured red with sculpted folds, then secured to the figure by two plug-in connections at the shoulders. On the back of this, we also get another sculpted Superman logo, now painted solely in yellow, which is accurate to the Coronswet costume. The costume overall is flat in colour, with no washes or highlights. Without one of the other versions to compare against it is unclear if this is the same paint job you would get on the £35 Theatrical Edition, but I would think it most likely is. The headsculpt is a good likeness sculpturally to David Coronswet, including his jawline and the hairstyle, complete with sculpted Superman curl to one side. The paint job does the basics for the sculpt, a flesh tone, painted lips, eyebrows, and relatively realistic eyes. It does still lack the realism that Hasbro are putting out on their comparably priced Marvel figures. Our bare bones figure only has two hands, a clenched right fist, and an open, clawed left hand. These are the same as fitted to the other versions of Superman, but in those cases, there are additional options to play with. The lack of symmetry is most frustrating, and the preference would have been for two clenched fists. Despite showing them in their promo images for the line, the flying hands are not included. Articulation is applied as standard for a McFarlane figure with 18 points in total. Both knees and elbows are double-jointed, but still pinned, leaving quite substantial pins visible on the sides of both arms and legs. The legs in their entirety are made up of an ankle rocker, a toe joint at the feet, the double-joint knees, and a basic hip joint behind that rubberised groin piece. Within all of these, there is no rotation, so the legs are fixed in what I find to be an unnatural position, giving the figure the appearance that the knees are turned inward. This doesn't impact stability, and Superman stands well enough once posed.  The upper articulation is pretty broad across the arms, with a limited ball joint in the chest that offers very little movement. The head is more expressive and can turn, be cocked to the side, and look up a short way, ready for takeoff. The cape is the main restrictor of anything other than standing positions. A flight stand will be needed for flying poses, and these would be more around the levitating position rather than in motion without the right hands to simulate this.  Considering the McFarlane figures were priced at £18.99 not too long ago, and have always been light on accessories, this figure feels more of a packaging waste saver than anything else. The figure itself is on par with the rest of McFarlane’s current offerings, showing its age a little in terms of pinned joint choices and flat painted facial features. Scaling is also an issue with the figure being shorter than he should be and therefore coming up short against other figures from the same movie, such as Ultraman (which is ironic).  The budget carded Superman is fine if you want to put a Superman on your shelf without any bells and whistles; it is as good a figure as those in the boxed and Theatrical versions. But be mindful of its limitations, several of which are inherent in the McFarlane line overall. Hasbro has announced its Marvel Legends Autumn Convention Exclusive, a new Super Skrull release from The Fantastic Four. The figure will feature three head options, as well as extra arms to replicate the abilities of The Thing and Mr. Fantastic. The lower half of the figure is also presented in a translucent effect to mimic Johnny Storm's powers, with a flame effect part also included. The set is completed with a pair of alternative hands The figure is packed into a special Super Villain window box, with the back of the box including a stat card for the Super Skrull. McFarlane have revealed that Wave 3 of their revisited 5 inch figures from The Walking Dead will feature Rick Grimes, Gas Mask Zombie, and Morgan Jones. These are all re-packed from the original releases. Rick Grimes will feature a revolver, a handgun, a baseball bat, and a Walkie-Talkie. Morgan Jones comes with two head options, removable hood, backpack, rifle, and staff. The Gasmask Zombie includes two head options allowing for a display with or without the gas mask. These opened for general pre-order as of the 5th of September 2025 and they are due to ship in November 2025. Mezco's new One:12 Collective release of Christian Bale's Batman from The Dark Knight is revealed in all its glory and will feature the usual raft of parts and accessories. There are five different head options, including one fully unmasked Bale head. Hasbro is set to release a Hero Series figure of Galactus from the Fantastic Four: First Steps movie. The figure will stand 13.8 inches tall (35cm) and features 11 points of articulation. The Hero Series will feature less detail than that of Marvel Legends, and of course, there is no way to accurately replicate the sheer scale of Galactus in a 6-inch scale. But this may present a cheap solution to those wanting to represent Ralph Ineson's Galactus in their collection. Character Options has officially revealed the second batch of Doctor Who figure sets heading to B&M Stores in the UK as exclusives later this month. They include a Revenge of the Cyberman set, reworking the original 2010 set with two Cyberman figures, a Cyberleader, and a Cybermat. These look to include new decor features including some gold sections on the chest unit. The second set is a History of the Daleks release, and fills the number 20 gap. It returns to the Remembrance of the Daleks serial and re-releases the Special Weapons Dalek alongside a standard Imperial Dalek Drone. The sets are heading into B&M stores in September. “You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness!" Playsets and diorama pieces have been part of the Star Wars action figure line as far back as the 70s and 80s with Kenner’s Death Star and Star Destroyer playsets, and more simplistic kits like the Cantina or the Droid Factory. In the Star Wars Black Series, these sorts of sets are harder due to the scale, but we have had a few releases across the line from some of the Environment stands for the Sequel Trilogy and Rogue One, to the Centrepiece line of posed figures scaled to the 6 inch figures. The best to date have been the Exclusives of Ben Kenobi’s hut with its table and working Leia hologram, to the larger Cantina, along with Pondo Baba and Dr Evazan. For SDCC 2025, Hasbro has gone bigger and bolder with a set celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Revenge of the Sith, and in particular, the iconic Battle on Mustafar between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.  The set was released at SDCC 2025, with limited quantities available on Hasbro Pulse after the event and in a couple of batches, with stocks being shipped across late August to collectors. The packaging is a call back to some earlier, and larger SDCC exclusives like the Han Exogorth Set and the Starkiller Centrepiece, both from 2018. The box is enclosed in an outer sleeve and shaped with a square base and then an angled section in line with the window display within. The box is essentially devoid of any significant colouring and instead uses the matt black packaging with an inlaid foil image of Anakin vs Obi-Wan on Mustafar. There is a link to the colour coding of the mainline, with the deep orange assigned to Revenge of the Sith used on the Black Series logo and the other text on both this outer sleeve and on the inner packaging. The inner box is revealed by sliding the sleeve off to the side. This reveals the actual figures and diorama, posed behind a large window, in an inner tray with Mustafar lava fields backdrop. To one side of this inner box is a short piece of multi-lingual text, giving a brief overview of the duel on one of the side panels. The box is held closed with a number of circular clear stickers which need to be cut or carefully removed to release the large front flap, which opens hinged from the top of the box to give access to the content. The entire internal Mustafar card segment lifts out, and into this are fastened three individual plastic trays, each containing a part of the set. The first is the figures, the second is the base, and the third is the accessories, which are off to one side. Unlike other sets with a diorama backdrop in cardboard, there has been some thought that has gone into the way the internal parts are packed, and the contents can be removed with virtually no damage to the card diorama, with each of the plastic trays held in place through tabs and taped at the rear and not at the front. We start with the figures, and both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin are new figures from the ground up, recreating their look from Mustafar, albeit without the inclusion of any soft goods outer robes that both men wear on their arrival, but not for their duel.  Obi-Wan is wearing the lighter, more traditional Jedi robes. The main tunic is a two part sleeve around the inner body, cast in beige with a sculpted cloth texture and folds. The lower skirt piece features a sculpted belt, painted in dark browns with silver and gold details. The upper tunic shows Kenobi’s inner robes at the neck with a darker set of robes beneath. The legs are a darker brown, similar to these upper inner robes, and the outfit concludes with a pair of red/brown knee-high boots. Considering the duel on the lava fields, the robes are presented clean with no weathering or wear, which would have been more interesting. Kenobi features a fitted head sculpt that is windblown and more unkempt than those we’ve seen before, specifically as seen during his fight with Anakin. The likeness is the best yet of Ewan McGregor with facial printing bringing out that realism, particularly in the yes and around Kenobi’s beard, A second head is also included. This is the neater version of the head and represents Obi-Wan before he arrives on Mustafar. This head is as good as the first, with the same level of detail and facial printing. This is the head that will come with the single release of Kenobi, leaving the ‘battle-worn’ head exclusive to this set.  Anakin Skywalker follows the same principle as Obi-Wan, but in a darker tone of robes. He includes a sculpted torso of black and brown robes, and over this a partial upper sleeve, with a lower skirt section, both in black colouring. The skirt includes Anakin’s belt in dark brown with silver details, with some similar silver detailing on Anakin’s right covered robotic hand, where his glove is strapped. The way Anakin is packed in the box does lead to the skirt arriving sticking out from the body. This can be resolved, but it takes a bit of gentle heat and some training to get it to sit back flat.  Anakin’s fitted head is his angry Mustafar Duel head, complete with ruffled hair piece and yellow facial printed Sith eyes. Other facial details include picking out Anakin’s scar over his right eye, as well as the usual mouth and eyebrow colourings. The likeness is again impressive.  The alternative Anakin head is taken from earlier in the movie, before his transition to Darth Vader. This uses the same facial printing tech but with naturally coloured eyes, but with the scar still in place. The likeness here is equally as impressive, and is the one you will get in the single release, leaving the ‘Sith’ head as exclusive to the box set. Comparing these new figures to the existing versions, you can see the improvements the Black Series has made over the last decade or so. The bodies are better proportioned, with a crisper finish to the outfits with them now being built from individual parts, rather than single pieces that are then painted. The new articulation format also removes all of the pins in the joints, adding a further aesthetic improvement compared to the original 2014 releases.  Vs the 2019 Archive Release (right) Vs the 2022 Archive Release (right) Use of new 2025 heads on original 2014 era bodies For those looking at the spare heads and the older bodies, I can confirm that the new heads will sit on the existing bodies as a small upgrade, but there is a difference in ball joint and socket sizing. That means the head ‘sits’ well enough, but does not lock into position. Even if you did widen the socket or shave down the peg, doing so will end up making them sit too low on the shorter neck pegs used on the original 2014 bodies.  Force gesture hands are few and far between in the Black Series, so we are spoiled to have one for each of Obi-Wan and Anakin included in the set. These are both left hands, swapping at the wrist and leaving the ball joint in the wrist rather than being a plug-in peg.  Each of our figures comes with their appropriate lightsaber. For Anakin, this is the well-used ‘Vader’ hilt cast in silver with black detailing on the fins. For Obi-Wan, this is a newer piece with a wider emitter and featuring a black ridged grip and some gold detail around the central shaft. Both saber hilts include a plug on the side that connects to a socket on each figure's hilt for a holstered look.  Both sabers come with a blue translucent blade, Anakin’s being slightly longer than Kenobi’s, and with a slightly slimmer and shaped clip where the blade connects to the hilt. As well as the standard blades, you also get six ‘swooshing’ blades to reflect blades in motion. There are three per figure, and each set comes with a different connecting socket; one for Obi-Wan’s hilt and one for Anakin’s. These are again cast in translucent blue and are as previously seen with Count Dooku and the newer ROTS Aayla Secura. They do have a weight issue, as the broader the ‘swoosh’, the heavier the blade becomes, which can cause some droop on the hilt, and for the larger piece, it can also start to drag down the arm joints.  There is a further effects piece to reflect the ‘clash’ of the two combatants' lightsabers. This is similar to the one we saw with Luke Skywalker and his Jedi Training Remote, but it is now in blue and has slots for two sabers to be connected. This allows you to recreate the pose seen on the box and is, for me, more impressive than the ‘Swoosh’ blades, particularly when hit with the right lighting to give it a glowing effect.  The environmental element of the set comes in four individual pieces, although these come assembled in the box. You do get a basic guidance sheet to confirm how to build if they ever come apart, which includes an illustration of the larger platform and how it connects to the lava base, and how the secondary part connects in at the side.  The main hover platform sits on its translucent orange and red lava base through four connecting posts. It is cast in hard plastic with a brown base colour and a painted upper platform in silver and grey. Further details include the two protruding slatted platforms, a couple of lumps of cooled lava slag, and a control vein that sits up on one side on two upprights and includes a rotating control level at the top.  There is then the secondary segment that is made up of a Mustafar Panning Droid which is technically a figure in its own right, complete with articulated arms that can rotate up and down on wide-set ratchets. The droid, like the platform, has a brown base colour with silver burnishing on the arms and on the flat top of the head.  This droid sits in its own lava stream via a socket on the underside and a hidden plug within the lava. The droid only goes in one way, and when engaged, the left-hand side manipulator arm section also slots into a shaped insert in the lava to hold it level.  The Panning Droid and its lava base are shaped to fit into the main diorama by way of a circular end to the lava flow that corresponds with a circular cutout under the main lava piece. This is not a secure fixing, but held in place by the weight of the larger piece. Of course, there is the option to place the droid anywhere you want around the main platform. With our platform assembled, we can now add in our figures of Anakin and Obi-Wan. They connect to the platform by plug-in pegs that are included in the accessory sleeve. There are 8 of these, but you only need 6 if you want to fill every hole on the platform with four sockets on the main platform and two on the Panning Droid. These foot pegs connect to one or both of the figures piece, securing them in place and also allowing for some more dynamic posing, such as having Anakin jumping from the Droid to the platform or Obi-Wan teetering on the side. Our figures are equipped with 19 points of pinless articulation. This includes the newer format legs without a thigh swivel, with Anakin and Obi-Wan having rotation at the knees, but also having a boot cut rotation built in. The upper arms include butterfly shoulders snugly away behind the tunic, allowing for a wide range of lightsaber positions, including two-handed and striking or defending positions. There is enough movement in the waist, and the dual joint neck helps with giving Kenobi and Skywalker some more expressions.  Bringing everything together is the beauty of this set, and very much what an environment piece is all about, creating a centre piece for your collection in recreating key scenes from the movies we love. There are loads of options for having our two figures face off on the Lava plains, and you can replicate plenty of them thanks to the figure articulation, supported by the stability of the solid platform and the included foot pegs.  The elephant in the room is the lack of any light-up options, something that was included with similar-sized Centrepiece releases. That would, of course, have added cost, and Hasbro have left sufficient room and cavities within the Lava pieces to add your own lighting options if you wish. All in all, this is one of the most impressive large-scale releases in the Black Series to date. The included figures are well executed and re-worked from scratch rather than recycling the two aging bodies from 2013. It is an almost perfect size for display, creating a centrepiece on a shelf without taking up a significant amount of room. It also opens up future potential for similar themed releases, with the Bespin Duel one already on its way later in 2025.  The box design will take up a lot of room for packaging collectors, and like a lot of the Black Series packaging is a magnet for fingerprints due to its matt finish.  At £104.99, you are paying around £55 for the base and the packaging, although both figures do have an increased level of accessories than normal. The two figures are incoming as single Galaxy Collection releases for those that are not interested in the larger Mustafar base, but those single releases will exclude the battleworn heads, Force Hands, and ‘Swoosh’ and ‘Clash’ lightsaber effects that remain exclusive to this set. The figures are in the Stylist Series and include an Evolved Godzilla and a Shimo, both in a translucent finish and as seen in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire. “This is ISB, this is a warrant search. This is your first and final warning. I need to see open hands and I need to see them now!" Several new and now iconic Imperial Troop types have been revealed across Rogue One in 2016 and then across the two prequel seasons of Andor. Among these are those outside the Stromtrooper legions and more grounded versions of the Imperial Forces, such as the Imperial Officer in riot gear from Andor Season 1 and now the ISB Tactical Agent from Season 2.  These armoured Tactical Agents were given a Star Wars Black Series release in the Summer of 2025, one of three Target (US) retailer exclusives that also included Dress Uniform Krennic and the Range Trooper  with Rocket launcher. Outside of the US, these were sold via the Fan Channel. Our ISB Agent is packed in the usual Black Series box, complete with orange/red highlight colouring assigned to Andor on the key text and on the side artwork. The Agent is number 17 in the Andor Galaxy Collection, with the side art connecting to that of Ceremonial Director Krennic in the wider montage.  The rear of the box doesn’t go into much detail in terms of Andor or the role the ISB Tactical Agents play, but does talk about their wider role in carrying out specialised field assignments. Behind the figure, the card insert is in the same matching orange/red finish, and embedded within this is a background image of an Imperial installation along with some TIE fighters in flight.  The ISB Agent is constructed in a style similar to that of Stormtroopers, with a black ridged undersuit making up the key joints and over this sit the armoured panels in a high gloss white. There is a lot of re-use on the figure, which is fine and in keeping with the way Imperial Armour is likely constructed in parts and is interchangeable within the Star Wars Canon. The main chest armour is from the Solo Mud Trooper figure, but now cast in white and featuring silver painted straps at the shoulders, and some black vent detail around the back where we have the embedded power and life support systems. When you look at the ISB Agents on screen during the raid to arrest Kleya, most are wearing a comms device on their chest armour, but this is not included on the figure. Instead, this figure is closest to those seen in the hospital scenes when Kleya goes to find Luthen Rael. The shoulder pauldrons appear to be those from a new Stormtrooper figure, although the upper arm - while similar - is slightly different around the elbow to accommodate the forearm piece, which is taken from the Patrol Troopers  (2018) from Solo, now with painted (not sculpted) straps to mimic the costume on screen. Under the chest armour is a softer rubber belt with gunmetal painted squares, followed by a further soft rubber skirt piece. This skirt features armoured white panels to protect the Agent's upper leg,s and these, and the compartment pouches above, are painted white on the black of the skirt, giving them a duller finish to the rest of the armoured panels. The re-use continues into the lower legs, which are also taken directly from the Patrol Troopers  from Solo. These are black trousers with strapped-on white shin armour and boots. While relatively accurate to the screen costume, the shaped knee piece is missing a side panel on both knees that would make them a 100% match.  Like the Imperial Officers from Season 1 of Andor created in the Black Series, Hasbro has obviously based the figure on a likeness, and you must assume this likeness is from the series and one of the uncredited actors, but not one of the key named ISB Agents of Gharial or Benzi. The figure likeness is rugged and stern-looking, overprinted with facial tech to give the hint of facial stubble and an intensity in the eyes.  The hair is cropped short, and the Agent is wearing a standard Imperial cap, cast in black with a central silver stud. Unlike the Andor Season 1 Dark Times Officer, the cap can now be removed from this figure, giving a couple of options for the figure on display. When a Trooper is not wearing a helmet or mask, the army-building options are reduced unless collectors are happy to have the same face across the ranks of their troops. To that end, Hasbro could have used facial plates - as seen on some Rebel Troopers - or included an extra head or two, but has chosen not to. Not to worry, for those wanting to build an ISB Tactica Squad, there are options if you keep reading to the end of this article.  The blaster rifle appears to be new to the line, and is as yet undesignated in any of the Star Wars source materials online - fan-created or official. It is a chunky blaster rifle, cast in black with a large amount of details down its entire length and across the two upper scope sections. There is no further painted detail, nor any ability to holster the weapon. Instead, it should fit in either hand, with both featuring a trigger finger to engage it in either left or right hand positions. The right is the better grip, a re-used hand from the Patrol Trooper, while the left hand is a wider grip and a stubbier finger gives less security when the rifle is held.  Articulation is 16 points in total, comparable to the line from circa 2018, when most of the parts were originally created. This means we also have visible pins at the knees, but they are double-jointed to allow kneeling positions with enough flexibility in the skirt to support these poses. There is less movement in the arms than in more modern Troopers, with no butterfly shoulders and only a 90-degree elbow. That being said, the rifle can still be held two-handed and raised to firing position with a good degree of realism.  The Black Series ISB Tactical Agent is a sensible choice for an exclusive, considering the limited role in the show and the heavy re-use of parts. That re-use is not particularly an issue, especially when the Imperials themselves would share components, and the parts used on the ISB Tactical armour are of that ‘Dark Times’ era and as also seen on the Solo Troopers from which most of the parts are taken. Accuracy to the onscreen costume is closest to the ISB Agents we see guarding the hospital rather than those doing the raid with Sergeant Gharial, who had heavily customised their gear. The generic likeness is good, but a named officer might have been preferred, as would an extra head or swap-out face plate, which would then encourage army-building.  All in all, a pleasing figure, expanding the background of the ISB and giving Dedra Meero some muscle behind her in a display setting. #FigureHacks So what of the army building possibilities using other heads from the Hasbro Black Series and beyond?  Well, I can confirm the ISB Tactical Agent uses what appears to be a very common neck peg compatible with plenty of other Black Series heads. If you go to the generic Imperials we've had to date, then you can swap out the heads for the other Andor Troopers from Season 1, such as the Ferrix Officer, although there is a skin tone variation here that will need painting. Using this head will also allow some configuration of armour, using the Mud Trooper helmet rather than the Imperial Officer cap - although the latter does still fit.  Going to other Imperial Troopers, the Death Squad Trooper from A New Hope is another perfect fit and again is also capable of wearing the cap. Outside of these, you are starting to work with named characters, and this might be a nice ‘off camera’ nod to perhaps seeing Migs Mayfeld as an ISB ‘sharpshooter’ or even a Clone Trooper head or too used? For those who want to keep it generic, you can look to other Hasbro lines. I went over and dug out my spare heads from the Marvel Legends Tracksuit Mafia figure from Hawkeye. While Marvel Legends are often visibly larger than the Black Series,  the heads from the Tracksuit Mafia do still fit and look in scale. The fit here is looser, and while the heads sit well enough, they will wobble and swing around.  I especially liked the balaclava head as a masked Tactical Agent, a tactic I can certainly see the ISB squads using.  The final head I dug out was a bit of fun based on its shouting expression. Again from Marvel Legends, the J. Jonah Jameson head is OK scale-wise, but the fit here is not compatible, so if you do want a shouting Jonah to lead your ISB squad, a bit of work is needed with the neck. He does, however, wear the cap particularly well.
