Kingdom Hearts 3 is arriving soon on consoles, and to coincide Diamond Select have confirmed via Gamestop their next three releases in their Kingdom Hearts range of Select figures. These three new sets are all Tron based and include the key Kingdom Hearts characters of Mickey, Sora and Goofy. The Mickey set also includes a Shadow Assassin and a Shadow. Goofy comes with Tron and a Shadow. While Sora comes with Donald and Sark. All three sets come out towards the end of 2018.

New and clearer images have been released for the majority of Hasbro's First 10 Years of MCU Marvel Legends. The packs are due to start arriving in August 2018. The Red Skull will obviously be a key release for Army Builders as it also includes three Hydra head options to build your Hydra Army. Ant-Man doesn't look as impressive as first thought, reusing the original release body but with an updated head. The Scott Lang head is nice, and it is a decent touch to include the mini versions of Ant-Man and Yellow Jacket.

Bluefin, the US distributor for SH Figuarts, has released the promotional images for the Infinity War Falcon figure we saw at the Tamashii Nations Comic Con. The figure comes with two head options, one with flight goggles and one without. There are also different hand options and what are listed as "exclusive" handguns, which may be the differentiating part in this Bluefin US release. The figure looks to be highly articulated, as always, through to and including the wings which look to fold fully back against each other for those dive bombing poses. The wings seem to have some level of holographic effect. The figure will arrive in February 2019 and the Bluefin US price is $100 Tamashii Nations is releasing S.H.Figuarts FALCON (Avengers: Infinity War)! Seamlessly transforms into flying mode and by using the detachable wing gears included. Includes 2 optional pair of hands, joint parts for Tamashii Stage, optional backpack for wings, an optional head, pair of holographic wings, and 2 exclusive weapons.

Pros : Cheap & Cheerful. Decent Sculpt and some weathering and battle damage applied Cons : Scale is debatable One of the odd releases for Solo, A Star Wars Story came from Disney Store in the guise of this 2-pack Wind-Up Fight Droids. These are the two droids we see slugging it out in the bar where Han first plays Lando at sabacc. They were released into Disney Stores on May the 4th 2018 and here in the UK have a price tag of £12.95. Like all the Solo merchandising, the overriding colour scheme for the Robot pack is yellow - with White Star Wars logo and artwork panels from the movie. There is no background information, we don't even get the droid type or their designation. The back of the box shows the action features of the two droids. If you are collecting mint-in-box then watch out for the Disney Store tags / barcodes that are stuck on the bottom of the box over the legal and copyright text. Like other figures in window box packaging, the droids slide out in an inner cardboard tray - also yellow. The droids are sandwiched between a front and back clear tray. While this protects them, the front tray doesn't do them justice on store shelves in terms of the finish we get on these two figures. The first droid is a modified Gonk droid confirmed via the Solo Visual guide as WG-22 or "Slice". He is fitted with a circular saw on one arm and an axe on another. He is a turquoise colouration but there is some good weathering and dirty effects going on. We also get some nice details under his big red visor with brushed silver effects. Red warning flashes are added as decals on one corner of the droid. Weaponry is cast in silver and the axe is painted, while the saw blade (which actually rotates) remains plain grey. My only niggle is at the feet where one is left plain grey - this is likely to make him look mismatched but it ends up looking like they ran out of paint. The second droid is designated FD3-MN (as per Topps cards). The Solo Visual Guide does not classify this droid, and until we can all start looking at the Solo movie frame-by-frame my best guess is that this is a converted Adminmech droid. While the Gonk is well publicised in Star Wars, details on this droid type are sketchy. The overriding colour on this one is an off white, with rubbing and weathering effects around the panels. There is a misshapen guard of some description at the top - not sure if that is warped out of the factory, or it is meant to look like this. Around the body are a variety of neat square and rectangular decals and panels. Like it's opponent, FD3 is tricked out with weaponry with a club of some kind on one arm and a flailing set of chains on the other. What is nic is that the chains are individual strands. The other arm looks a little clunky, but is still weathered with good paint apps - down tot he yellow circular end piece and silver inner hub. Each droid is articulated at the arms, with the Gonk also having moveable legs and a moveable visor. The Gonk operates by winding a key on its back. While FD3 has a pull back motion via wheels on the base. As the Gonk droid moves his feet go back and forward in a walking motion, while the arms raise and lower. FD3 rotates and wheels forwards with the two arms flailing as he moves. Checkout the following video to see them in action. The operation of the droids is short lived a bit clunky. You will do well to get them to fight for a few seconds, and they are more likely to go wheeling off in a different direction. So onto scale and we seem to have two camps on this. I sit in the camp that these look like 6" scale to me. Each droid is a touch taller than a Black Series Astromech and comes up to the lower chest of a protocol droid. I can apply some logic to this theory with the Gonk droid listed on Wookieepedia as 1m or so high which is spot on with the 6" figure scale. FD3-MN looks to be a little bigger than the Gonk in the movie, so may be a little undersized in this set. The other camp sees them as 3.75" scale but I need to see the movie again to see how tall these two guys are in the Lodge vs the human charaters. I do however find them far too big looking when put alongside a 3.75" figure like the second image above. The simple answer here is to use them as you see fit. If they work for you in 6" scale then have them in your Black Series collection. If you feel they fit in 3.75" then use them in a Vintage or 5POA collection. My droids will be going into my Black Series 6" Jabba's palace display for now as background pieces. For £12.99 you get two pretty decent sculpted droids, which are also nicely painted. The scale is debatable, but choose to use them with whatever size figure you are happy with. The one real issue is that their main Wind-Up feature doesn't work brilliantly. I score the Wind-Up Fight Droids set from Disney store a very respectable 4 out of 5.

Hasbro news this week includes new Black Series, Vintage Collection and Legends products - both leaked and officially announced. We had seen the 7" scale Real Ghostbuster figures from Diamond at Toy Fair 2018 and also knew that these 6 figures would make up wave 9 and 10 of the Ghostbusters series. We were not sure of the wave breakdown, but that has now been confirmed with this promotional image of Series 9 which is made up of Egon, Winston and a Real Ghostbusters Cartoon Slimer. That puts Series 10 being made up of Peter, Ray and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Collectors will need to get the Build-a-Diorama parts from both Series 9 and 10 to combine with the ones from Series 6 to 8 and build the Ghostbusters Firehouse diorama. Series 9 is scheduled for a late 2018 release with pre-orders due to go up soon.

McFarlane announced their 7" scale Call of Duty figures at Toy Fair 2018 and revealed two figures at that time in the guise of Simon "Ghost" Riley and John "Soap" Mactavish A wider announcement has now confirmed a larger set of releases than first thought, including some retailer exclusives. The first new figure is Ruin, Seraph is a Target exclusive in the US and comes from the Black Ops release. There will be a Winter Variant of Ghost Riley that will be sold at Gamestop in the US. Mactavish also gets a variant, a "bloodied" version which will go to Walmart. The figures are due to arrive in Autumn.

The first Netflix (Marvel Knights) wave of Legend figures in 2017 was warmly received by fans of the Marvel Netflix shows, but a follow up wave was never announced and fans were left nervous if they would ever complete their Defenders line up as a minimum. While a new wave including Netflix figures is not on the cards, it seems Hasbro have plans in place to ensure we aren't totalling lacking in new Netflix MCU figures. This two pack was posted by Robot Kingdom and includes new Legends figures of Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) with her claw hand weapons as seen in Iron-Fist. According to RK the set is due to release imminently. In the US it will be exclusive to Walmart. I wouldn't expect to see this in Asda stores here in UK though. Indications are of a second two pack with the Netflix Danny Rand Iron-Fist. At this stage this is unconfirmed, but the sources are credible. The second figure would most likely be a Colleen Wing.

Bandai have been exhibiting new Star Wars 1/12 Figure Kits at the Tokyo Toy show. The show has confirmed that a number of new Astromechs are going to be released. These will be R4-19 a dark blue Agromech seen on the First Death Star (A New Hope). R2-Q5, the black and gold imperial R2 unit from the second Death Star (Return of the Jedi). R5-J2, an R5 unit also seen on the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi. We wonder whether these three Imperial droids will be combined into a multipack of sorts? We are also getting two new R2-D2 kits. One with booster rockets as seen in the prequels, and a 2nd with a bunch of internal gadgets. These may end up being the same kit with multiple options? Pros : Body and armour is well sculpted. Articulation is good for a big figure Cons : Head is too small, and the figure may be short also. Skin tone looks wrong and is too glossy. Re-release announced which looks loads better. I am writing this review AFTER the announcement of a new Thanos figure coming later in 2018, so will make reference to that new set throughout this review. To get your MCU Thanos as a Build-a-Figure you needed to purchase 6 of the 7 figures from the Infinity War wave, which included the three comic book figures of King Cobra, Taskmaster and Songbird. The 7th figure, Iron-Man, did not carry a BAF part. With all your parts in hand the assembly is a simple clip together and there you have it - the mad Titan himself. The head sculpt on Thanos is a half decent likeness to Brolin as we see him on screen. It is however a bit too small for the body which is a shame. The head is also a bit too shiny and the wrong shade of blue. Worst of all is the weird smirk they've given him - which looks very odd from most angles. You can however angle the chin down and the look does become a little more menacing. The other detail your eye goes to is the Infinity Gauntlet which is nicely sculpted with plenty of sculpted details including scroll work down the wrist segment and the infinity gems themselves set into the glove, The costume is the un-armoured version that Thanos spends the majority of the film in. The arms are bare skin and like the head are a single tone blue. The chest piece has a shin gold shoulder piece and the front of the chest is textured like a modern chainmail. There is a skirt section that wraps round to a belt and this is an individual piece that slides up and down when the legs are articulated. The legs themselves are plain grey and then we finish with some substantial boots, with more gold trimming. As a Build-a-Figure, Thanos is a substantial figure and measures 7 and 3/4 inches high. This puts him a similar height to his lieutenant, Proxima Midnight. And a good inch and a bit higher than core characters like Captain America. For me this is too small for Thanos who looks to be quite a bit taller when facing down the main characters. The Infinity Gauntlet is sculpted in a closed fist. We are getting an open / clicking fingers sculpt with the second release of Thanos later in 2018 as part of the 10 years of the MCU line. While he is a big chap, the articulation on Thanos is pretty impressive with 19 points of articulation - consistent with a basic release. The head is fully mobile on its peg with a pivot. There is then a larger than usual T-joint in the chest and the waist too rotates. Arms are ball jointed at the shoulder with a bicep swivel underneath and then leading into double jointed elbows. Both wrists rotate and are pegged, but while his right one moves easily, I am yet to get the Infinity Gauntlet hand to move. The legs follow a similar design with ball joint hips, thigh swivels, double jointed knees and ankle rockers. With his bulk and flat feet there are no stability issues with Thanos. My one gripe with the hands are that both are presented as fists. It would be nice to have an option for Thanos to hold up Loki by the throat. While it would have been nice to give the BAF alternative hands, the fact a revised version is coming probably put pay to any remote thought of Hasbro doing this. I am going to go straight in and score Thanos BAF a 3 out of 5. While the body is pretty good and the articulation strong, the head is too small and the skin tone is the wrong colour and very glossy. My other issue is how frustrated I feel at how soon Hasbro has recycled this body into another general release. While I appreciate a lot of BAF's get recycled at some point - this one feels particularly cruel after collectors spent in excess of £120 to get hold of Thanos, buying three figures they may not need if they are an MCU only collector. I do hope the re-packed Thanos has enough points of difference and as a thank you to fans they keep the RRP as low as possible.

Pros : Body is well designed, well articulated and painted in muted tones Cons : Head sculpt looks wrong. Shield is not screen accurate and Cap should have two Captain America is the fourth of the MCU releases in the first Avengers wave of 2018, coming along with Iron-Spider, Proxima Midnight and Iron-Man. The wave was completed by comic book figures of Taskmaster, Songbird and King Cobra. The figures (aside from Iron-Man) included parts to build an MCU Thanos figure. The packaging design was a bold purple, with gold Avenger Infinity War logo and card insert that enhanced the figure on the shelf. Cap comes set into the inner tray with his new Wakandan shield to one side of his head, and two alternative hands to the other side. The Thanos head sits down near his knee. Marvel Legends have been using face print technology to fantastic effect for a year now, but this Chris Evans likeness is pretty poor when you compare it to other recent figures like Thor, Hela or the Guardians figures from last year. The big issue for me is that the hair looks to be a separate piece and it doesn't sit quite right on the head and is not dark enough. It is also not the hair we saw in Infinity War which is longer and swept back. The do is closer to his Winter Soldier look, and I wonder if the head and hair is being used or tweaked for the MCU 10 year Crossbones set. The beard suffers a similar problem and the whole face looks a touch too thin. From the side it starts to look more like Chris Evans, but sadly the search goes on for a good Captain America MCU head sculpt. The costume is the same one we saw in Civil War, but the body of the figure is not a re-use of that Legends figure and appears to be brand new throughout. Again, I suspect there will be a lot of re-use in that Crossbones set. There are specific infinity war details in the sculpt, with the central star sculpted to look like it has been removed. The sleeves are also rolled up, but sadly Hasbro have only sculpted one hand with a glove - Cap wore gloves on both hands in the movie. The outfit is well painted with lots of subtle shade changes across the blue. The red ad white are muted and the boots a single brown tone. There is no weathering or washes which would have gone a long way to matching what we see on screen. It is good to see this new Captain is a comparable height to the more recent figures, sitting 6.5" in height - earlier figures like the Winter Soldier versions had wildly variant heights for the same character. Cap's accessory is his Wakandan shield. The shield is cast in a softer plastic, but the points are crisp and the lines are straight and not deformed. It is painted in two tone silver with a darker colouring on the inserts. It has a moulded handle round the back which with a bit of work then slots into Cap's ungloved right hand. While the shield is done well, I suspect it is based on an early concept as it is not what we see on screen and Cap ended up with two smaller ones for some of the Wakandan battle scenes. Articulation on Cap is brilliant and weighs in at an impressive 21 points of articulation. The main bulk of the body has a pivot head on a ball joint followed by the T-joint chest joint and a rotating waist. The arms have ball jointed shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows and pivot & swivel wrists. For a different look to the figure, although it won't be overly screen accurate, the hands can be swapped out to a pair of fists. Here, you can use the articulation in those arms into the "I can do this all day pose". Cap's legs have ball jointed hips with a thigh swivel under neath. There is then a double jointed knee and under this joint a rotating lower leg where the boot meets the pants. We finish with ankle rockers. This leg articulation gives Cap the ability to kneel, crouch or take up action stances - he is however difficult to keep standing as the ankle rockers don't seem to line up to allow the feet to be flat to the floor. I had to use a stand to keep Cap standing through our pictures and beyond onto my MCU display. Captain America, Infinity War, feels like a release that was conceived a touch too soon. The shield isn't all that accurate - he should have the two smaller ones. And of course he should be wearing gloves on both hands. The head sculpt isn't the best, but is a passing likeness to Evans and is passable at certain angles. Where the figure does have merit is its articulation and costume design and paint. It is a wash away from perfection, and if they re-use this articulation and colouration on the Crossbones 2-pack then we may be in for the best Captain America MCU Legends to date. As it stands this Cap will fill in a gap in your Infinity War display, but its a 3 out of 5 for me due to that head sculpt and obvious discrepancies to what eventually made it on screen.
