  • McFarlane reveals first wave of Harry Potter Action Figures

The McFarlane website has been updated to now include the first images of their upcoming Harry Potter action figures. The first wave, due July 2019, is made up of Harry, Ron, Hermione and Voldemort as seen in the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Future waves, assuming the line does well, will be themed around a particular movie and the licence includes the Fantastic Beasts movies. Each of the characters has a patronum spirit with them, while Voldemort comes with his snake Nagini. The Voldemort figure is interesting as there looks to be digitally wizardry going on in the image. It is also unclear if the robes are soft goods or not? Harry and Hermione look great, but am not sure what has happened with the Ron sculpt - it may just be the angle of th head when the picture was taken. After some confusion on scale, the figures are now listed as 7 inch scale - which puts them at a match with the older NECA Harry Potter figures. The figures will also come with what I call the "Color Tops" base as seen on other McFarlane properties, complete with Harry Potter logo. There is also some character specific backdrops that come in the box and can be removed and attached to this base. Amazon has already opened pre-orders, and you can pre-order from US with shipping to UK for circa £24 per figure - or you can wait for the UK pre orders to open. • NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 1990 "Capture of Splinter" SDCC Exclusive Pack

NECA have used World Turtle Day to announce their first San Diego Comic Con Exclusive for 2019. Following on from recent years, this will be a 7 inch scale Ninja Turtle Pack titled "The Capture of Splinter". The set see's the 18 inch versions of Shredder and the Foot Soldier shrunk down to the 7 inch scale - with two Soldiers included in the set. It also then includes a brand new Splinter figure. There are also a bunch of extras such as manacles, a cardstock crate, and a weapons rack for storing all the Foot clan accessories. As an SDCC exclusive, availability will be limited and in the US only. There is a chance we may see parts of this kit as single releases at a later stage, as has happened with the original 1990 movie Turtles as Gamestop exclusives in the US. NECA have also recently negotiated a worldwide licence to distribute the smaller 7 inch Turtles around the globe so there is also a possibility for UK and Worldwide availability. "To keep up with tradition, we are happy to announce our first #SDCC 2019 Exclusive, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990 Movie) - 7” Scale Action Figure - “The Capture of Splinter” 4-Pack! After wading in a puddle of radioactive waste, four ordinary reptiles become more than just turtles, and are raised by the similarly transformed rat Splinter to become New York City’s greatest crime-fighting quartet. Their biggest enemy—and Splinter’s nemesis—is The Shredder, ruthless leader of the Foot Clan, a criminal organization that’s terrorizing the city. Yet is only after Splinter is captured by the Foot that the Turtles learn how far back his feud with Shredder goes... This epic box set recreates the “Capture of Splinter” scene from the 1990 movie in 7” scale, all the way down to the in-box positioning! The set includes Splinter (with cloth robe), Shredder (with cloth cape), and two Foot soldiers, plus plenty of extras: manacles, a cardstock crate, and a weapons rack for storing all the Foot clan accessories. Slipcase over window box packaging."

  • NECA Karate Kid final packaged images

Ahead of their release in June, NECA have revealed the final packaged images of their first three 8 inch figures based on the Karate Kid movie. The figures are in the 8 inch "retro" line from NECA, so have sculpted heads and articulated bodies with soft good tailored clothing. The first three released are Daniel Russo, Mr Miyagi and Johnny Lawrence in his Halloween outfit - we have further figures due, including a two pack of Daniel and Johnny in the All Valley Championship complete with trophy. As a child of the 80's and someone who owned the original Remco Karate Kid figures, I do applaud NECA for the retro feel of the packaging on these - brings back some good memories. "From The Karate Kid, the iconic ‘80s film that sent a generation of kids rushing to enroll in karate classes! These clothed action figures include Daniel, Mr. Miyagi, and Johnny in his skeleton costume. Daniel comes with bonsai tree, Japanese sanders, alternate hand holding chopsticks, bottle of car wax and buffer accessories. Mr. Miyagi comes with bonsai tree and alternate hand holding chopsticks. Skeleton Johnny comes with a Walkman accessory. Each fully articulated figure stands approximately 8” tall and features an authorized likeness."

  • Medicom MAFEX Avengers Infinity War Thor

After the announcement of an Infinity War Iron-Spider figure, it seems the next Avengers Infinity War release from Medicom MAFEX is this brilliant looking Thor. The 1/12 MAFEX figure of Thor includes what looks to be several swap out items, allowing you to select different versions of Thor from throughout the film. We have three head options, including the eye patch Thor and Lightning Thor with the glowing blue eyes. There are also alternative arm options to switch Thor to the bare arms cloakless version we see at the end of Ragnarok and into Infinity War. The cloak itself is soft goods and removable. Thor is of course armed with Stormbreaker and to enhance the figure further there are various clip on lightning fx pieces for the axe and for Thor. There are no clear release detail as yet, and these are the only images at present from a Far East catalogue - we will update this thread as and when promotional images are released, which will normally be in just a few days.

  • SH Figuarts Star Wars Return of the Jedi Darth Vader

The new Return of the Jedi SH Figuarts Darth Vader will be released in October 2019, and will re-use several parts from the original A New Hope Version. The 2019 version will see an updated mask and chest plate to reflect the changes on screen for the Return of the Jedi appearance. Vader will also come with a lift off panel at the rear of his helmet to reveal the head and a fully unmasked Anakin Skywalker head. To help re-enact the battle with Luke there is a swap out option to show Vader's wrist where Luke cut off his hand. And of course no Sith Lord is complete without his Saber. Vader will be released in October 2019 and it seems the aforementioned Return of the Jedi Luke will get a re-release at the same time. Also teased in the promo images for Vader are the Emperor's Royal Guards - who have been seen before at Toy shows but are as yet to make it to a release schedule. We also see shots of the new Vader alongside the A New Hope Stormtroopers announced at the same time.

Vader will come with varying head options including partially and fully unmasked, with the later having what looks to be a very good Anakin Skywalker likeness. • Review : Marvel Legends Ebony Maw, Avengers Infinity War

Ebony Maw was released as part of the first wave of Avengers figures for Avengers Endgame in Spring 2019. He comes with the left leg of the Armoured Thanos Build-a-Figure. Packaging 4/5 The Ebony Maw packaging is badged using an Avengers Infinity War logo, but retains the same design and colouring as the rest of the Endgame wave. The backing card is a pale blue, emblazoned with the Avengers "A" logo. The same logo sits on the top of the box. The side artwork, in a blue hue, is particularly menacing. On the back of the box we see the 2019 amendment of showing an image of the character from the movie and not a promotional image of the figure. To the side of this sits a short piece of text and underneath this a checklist for the Build-a-Figure. "The dangerous assassin Ebony Maw puts his powers of persuasion to sinister use in the service of the evil Thanos" Paint & Sculpt 2/5 Straight out of the box there is something off about the head sculpt on Ebony Maw and this is disappointing considering this is not a figure they've released ahead of any movie using concept art. It is also someway short of the prototype we saw last year. There are two key factors for me. The first is the brow area which is not pronounced enough nor painted with sufficient shadow. The other factor is the hair which is missing when viewed from the front, and only represented from the back by a very small area of sculpted hair in the same colour tone as the head. This throws the look of the head considerably. The Maw's body is well proportioned sculpted with a textured tunic and gold trim painted down the front of the body. The grey is perhaps too light and could do with being darker. Maw stands a good head higher than a basic human figure like Captain america. Whether this is accurate is down to interpretation of what we see on screen. For me the Maw figure is actually a touch too tall and should be shorter than Proxima Midnight and with his head coming up to the top of Thanos' chest area - although that could just as easily mean Thanos and Proxima are too short. Accessories N/A There are no accessories included for Maw. While I appreciate he used very little on screen, some clever FX pieces to represent his needles that he uses to torture Doctor Strange. The other obvious miss is an alternative right hand in the "shhhh" pose we see him use. Articulation 4/5 Maw, for such a tall figure, is really well articulated with 18 points of articulation in total Head - ball joint with pivot Body - torso ball joint Arms - ball joint shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, pivot wrist Legs - ball joint hips, thigh swivel, single joint knee, ankle rocker The arms, long and slim as they are, allow for some expressive poses including being able to touch his own head. This does however add to the disappointment of not getting the "shhh" hand pose. I would be careful of the elbows which are quite slim and therefore prone to breaking. Legs are fully mobile, with the rubberised skirt moving with the legs. Maw stands well enough. Summary The Black Order figures to date have been quite disappointing for fans. With Corvus Glaive a US exclusive and no official UK release - and Proxima and Cull Obsidian not being screen accurate and based on concepts - it is a shame that with all the screen references for Ebony Maw we didn't get a better looking figure. Darkening the brow and adding sculpted hair would significantly change the shape and look of the head and improve the figure significantly. Thankfully the articulation and box art does pull a point back for the figure and I I score the Avengers 2019 Wave 1 Ebony Maw figure an average 3 out of 5. See More Marvel Legends figures here
