The Smyths Germany website has posted a new listing for a Wedge Antilles Black Series figure. Wedge looks to arrive in his X-Wing flight suit and comes with a removable helmet and a blaster. The Smyths listing indicates that Wedge will potentially be available from the 4th of October, Triple Force Friday, along with the other Black Series reveals

Following on from the announcement of the Skywalker Strikes exclusive, we now get the details of the basic Black Series release of this figure. The Yavin Ceremony Luke was revealed via the Smyths Germany website and is the same figure as the exclusive without the depth of accessories. Luke does get his blaster, and controversially WILL come with the Yavin Medal that will NOT be included in the exclusive - despite being shown in some early images. It seems Yavin Luke will potentially be available from the 4th of October, Triple Force Friday, along with the other Black Series reveals

A brand new European Star Wars Black Series Exclusive figure of Luke Skywalker has been announced and will be available across Europe at the following Autumn conventions MCM London Comic-Con Paris Comic-Con Lucca Comics & Games Salon Manga Barcelona Madrid Comic-Con The MCM offering will be via UK independent specialist with In Demand, and Darkside Toys confirming they will have the item. They are quoting a £40 price tag for the item with their allocation being spread out over the 3-days and then any remainder being available online. The exclusive is labelled as the Skywalker Strikes Luke Skywalker and while this is the Yavin Ceremony Luke outfit, it is the same outfit Luke wears into the 2015 comic series by Marvel. The set is based of this comic book series, with the 2015 Star Wars Issue 1 cover being used for the box art. The figure includes Luke's lightsaber and a blaster. Also included are the helmet and the training remote from his training on The Millennium Falcon - although these are not quite accurate with this outfit and will most likely end up on people's Farmboy Luke figure. The final accessory looks to be Ben Kenobi's journal and outer case - as seen in the comic book series. The images shared have two versions in circulation, one with the Yavin medal - the other without. It seems the image with the medal (see below) is an error. The medal will NOT be included in the set. The figure will get a general release come Triple Force Friday with the medal and blaster but none of the other accessories. While we had seen Star Wars Black Series figures based on the animated Rebels and Clone Wars series, 2019 saw the first figures based on the Star Wars Comics from Marvel. Riding on a popularity wave of her own making, Doctor Aphra was released in wave 21 along with her two droids Beetee and Triple Zero. Packaging 4/5 Doctor Aphra is number 87 in the phase 3 packaging and arrives in the standard black box with red spine and figure backdrop. As we saw with the Rebels figures, Aphra has been translated from the pages of her comic series to the Black Series line by means of a realistic head sculpt and Gregory Titus artwork - although the two do not appear to be a complete match. The figure is not subtitled with her origin, which may cause confusion to anyone unfamiliar with the comic series. Perhaps the figure needed a smaller logo like we see with Battlefront releases or the upcoming Fallen Jedi figures. Round the back of the box we do get a short bio about the character and it is intriguing enough for you to want to go and find out more about Aphra (I am currently reading her full series starting with the Darth Vader series). "On a mission gone wrong, Doctor Aphra finds herself at the hands of the formidable Sith Lord, Darth Vader. A rare survivor of such meetings, Aphra is recruited by Vader for her skills in reprogramming droids and her apparent lack of remorse for breaking the law to get what she wants." Paint & Sculpt 4/5 It is very difficult to comment on a sculpt that is not based on a real person. What Hasbro have done is extrapolate Aphra to a real world equivalent and it is that face that is printed onto the sculpted head. You can see now how the figure of Aphra is a fuller face and with bigger eyes than the box illustration and I wonder if the artists involved were working from different concepts. That all being said, once you add her flight cap then this is definitely Aphra. The rest of her costume is faithfully recreated, with finishes copied from similar parts like the gunslinger belt which is decorated very similar to Han Solo's. The only gripe with the costume is the recurrence of the thighs vs legs issue - with the top of Aphra's legs being a different shade to the rest of them. While most of the costume is cast in the base colour, we do have a wash over the gillet and over the legs - it may even be this wash that has been missed over the top parts that creates the variance. There is also a very neat recreation of Aphra's arm electro-tattoos. Aphra scales well with the other Black Series figures and with her accompanying droids from Wave 21 - Beetee and Triple Zero. Accessories 5/5 As we have seen, Aphra comes with a removable flight helmet. This is cast in rubbery plastic and fits perfectly over the head to a snug fit without looking oversized. The helmet is a brown base colour, but is washed to weather it with the goggles and strap then painted on top. Aphra is armed with a DL-44 blaster. This is cast in grey with a painted barrel in silver. This is the same blaster as was packed with Jaina Solo in 2017. The Blaster fits comfortably in Aphra's right hand where a trigger finger slots in place. It can also be holstered if you wish into the working holster on her right hip. Articulation 5/5 Aphra comes with a standard set of 16 points of articulation. With her slim build and with no bulky amour, cloaks, capes or skirts - she is fully mobile. Head : ball joint pivot neck Body : torso ball joint Arms : ball joint shoulder, rotating single elbow joint, pivot wrist Legs : ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, ankle rockers Aphra stands perfectly well and all her joints are tight and robust. It is good to see the sculpt and articulation capture the swagger and casual confidence of Aphra as we often see illustrated in the comics. It gives the figure a sense of character. Summary While not everyone may be familiar with Doctor Aphra, she has reached a level of popularity in the last few years to warrant a Black Series figure ahead of other big names from the movies. She is also selling out fast from wave 21 and may end up being a very sought after figure on the secondary market in a year or two. She does everything a figure should. The sculpt is realistic, while still the Aphra we know from the comics. The paint is neat - with just a small issue with colour matching on the legs - and she is well articulated. In an ever expanding universe we should expect many more figures of this type - either from the movies, TV, video games and comics - and if they are all as well done as Doctor Aphra then I for one will be voting with my wallet. Review : Luke Skywalker, X-Wing Pilot Star Wars Black Series (Hasbro) Wave/Series : Wave 1 (Phase 1) Released : August 2013 Price : £19.99 The Mephitsu Archives did not exist in 2013 when the 6" Black Series range launched. In fact our only look at any of the early figures has been a very brief overview by wave when the main website went live. With the current re-release of a number of these early figures on 40th Anniversary cards - its a great opportunity to revisit these early figures and take a more in-depth look at them and score them using our 5 star rating. For the Luke X-Wing we are looking at an original 2013 release, but will include some thoughts a little further on around the 40th Anniversary special release from Star Wars Celebration 2017 in Orlando. Luke was the figure that essentially launched the Black Series 6" range, he is number #01 in the original orange series. The figure arrives in a black matt box with cut out window insert through which the figure is visible. A frame around three sides of the window gives you the Star Wars Black Series logo top left and to the right of this the grey scaled art we know so well. In the phase 1 packaging this is in a circular frame and is of the characters head only. To the bottom of the box is the character number and name in orange text. There is then the Hasbro logo and some warning text around age and choking hazards. The window allows full visibility of the figure which is sat on a black backing card. An orange dotted line, reminiscent of the lighting on the Death Star, runs vertically to the right of the figure as you look. Luke's lightsaber and blaster are packed to the side. His helmet is packed under his right arm. The two sides of the packaging are quite plain. The right is a wrap around of the window and the left is essentially plain black. Round the back the orange line returns down one side and the back is headed up with the Star Wars Black Series logo. Under this sits a repeat of the character name in orange and then in grey text a very brief character bio and then in italics a quote from A New Hope "It will be just like Beggars Canyon back home". For US releases the rest of the box rear is an image of Luke from A New Hope, converted to grey lined image. For international releases this is often covered with a large oversticker containing the figure info in alternative languages - if you are careful you can peel this off if you wish. Review : Luke Skywalker X-Wing Pilot Star Wars Black Series (Hasbro) Wave/Series : 40th Anniversary Carded Celebration Exclusive Released : April 2017 Price : $27.99 (Convention price) For the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars A New Hope in 2017, Hasbro have revisited a number of their 6" figures (and some new ones) and released them on retro cards which match the original Kenner artwork and design and even carry the Kenner logo. While the original 12-back of figures are out for standard release, Star Wars Celebration Orlando got it's own release to tag onto the 40th Anniversary. This was a repack of the highly sought after X-Wing Luke. The new card backs are sized to accommodate the 6" figures, without being a direct upscale of the original 3.75" figures. They utilise the same character image as well as the Star Wars and Kenner logo's. The character name is set into a coloured box, with the same colouring used behind the figure. A neat 40th Anniversary logo sits in the top left corner. While all of this is consistent with the other 40th Anniversary figures, the big variance is that this card is done in a metallic sheen. While the front is consistent with all the other 40th carded figures, the reverse is a big change. Instead of a checklist of figures the card is dominated by an image of X-Wings in battle over the Death Star. This is surrounded in the double silver lined frame we associated so much with the Vintage figures. Under this image in a blue box is a bio of Luke and his role in the Battle of Yavin. The card ends with the usual safety notices and the Disney & Hasbro logo's. It is interesting that there is no specific mention of Star Wars Celebration on the packaging? Out of the packaging and you are presented with a Luke figure that stands 5 1/2 inches high. This would be accurate to Mark Hamill's reported height of 1.75m and means Luke scales accurately when displayed alongside say Han or Leia It is hard in a retrospective look to not compare the figure against others that have been released since. However, I stand by the fact that this X-Wing Luke sculpt that was done back in 2013 is still the best Hamill likeness we have had in the range. The head isn't perfect, and is painted quite plainly with a flat skin tone and then neat blue eyes. The hair is brown with dry-brushed highlights which are probably too light. The one issue with the head is the neck pivot which is clearly visible under the chin. The X-Wing pilot orange is consistent with the on screen colouring and the baggy flight suit has folds and creases to mimic the real costume. It is also washed to dirty and weather it. Luke doesn't look like the flight suit is fresh from the laundry. On top of the chest section is the white ribbed vest and over the top is a chest device in grey with various buttons done in pastel colours. From this comes a pipe which is in flexible plastic that connects to widget further down on the chest. Round the back of the torso is the other half of the vest and with a sculpted and painted strap and buckle. From the rear of the vest hangs a flexible grey strap. This loops down through the pegs and connects back up to a belt. From the loop section, down near the knees, two further straps shoot off and wrap the knees and return back to the strap. Luke wears glossy black flight gloves and on his left arm on the shoulder there are some slotted in silver accessories. If you are being over critical these do have some paint bleed. Similar devices surround the right leg above the boot. This time they are on a strap of some kind an the painting of the silver on top of the grey strap is much neater. The legs end with glossy black boots. When the Black Series launched the original ethos was to jam pack each release with plenty of accessories allowing the collector to vary their display. This has obviously changed as a principle as we moved through subsequent releases, but for Luke it means he comes with a removable helmet as well as blaster and lightsaber. The helmet is made of a softer plastic, yet doesn't look or feel soft or rubbery. The movement this gives means the helmet goes on and off the head easily and once on it does not look over-sized as some working helmets often do. The base colour of the helmet is white, and it is then decorated with dark red trim down the ridge and two rebel red squadron symbols to either side. There is then some yellow trim and additional symbols to each side and the black circle logo. A lot of these are likely decals not paint, but they all work and are as good a match to the prop helmets that you can expect at this scale and price point. The colours are vibrant and lined in black in places and the helmet has been washed and weathered. The helmet also carries a flexible chin strap and a see through yellow visor. The visor takes some positioning once on Luke's head to get him looking right, the chin strap can then be hooked under his chin. Articulation for Luke sits at about 16 points of articulation. The head is ball jointed and then also on a pivot. While the pivot is too big and visible for my liking it allows Luke a full range of movement round and then lets him move his head up and down as far as his chin or hair line will allow. The shoulders are ball jointed and pull out to 90 degrees and will then also rotate. The elbows are single joint that also rotates, due to the way the arm is sculpted there is a wider range of movement in the elbow than some figures and Luke's elbow bends to 90 degrees and then a few degrees more. This extra movement allows for the 2-handed lightsaber pose we will see later. The rotating hands also help support this, although the pivot hinge you can see on both hands add's nothing on the right hand - while it allows the left to bend really well. It is this bend in the wrist which allows Luke to hold his helmet under the arm, Top Gun style. A torso joint exists, tucked under that flight vest. It doesn't move all that far but permits Luke to lean forward and into more action orientated stances. The legs start with ball jointed hips, followed by thigh swivels and double jointed knees. These allow wider stances and poses, and the strapping does move with them - and impressively it is engineered to move far enough to let Luke sit down or kneel. The ankle joints are rockers with a vast range of movement to let you keep Luke's feet flatly planted. They also feel ratcheted, and are therefore very secure. There is no chance of Luke X-Wing falling over in your display. Going back to the other accessories, and the first is the DL-44 Blaster. This blaster is consistent with the original Kenner release and although not used by Luke in A New Hope as he was too busy flying, he is using it during The Empire Strikes back while on Dagobah. This personifies the Black Series original goal of giving you options of which Luke you would display. The blaster is cast in a crisp black plastic - none of your rubbery weapons here. It has a brown painted grip and a silver barrel. It fits into either hand with the right hand having a flexible trigger finger and this fits into the trigger of the blaster. Luke didn't use his lightsaber in A New Hope while wearing the X-Wing gear, and the Kenner version also did not include it. The later 1995 POTF release did add the lightsaber, and it is nice to see it here in this Black Series release. Again this gives you the option of displaying Luke with blaster, light saber or both. The saber set the standard for all Black Series sabers to come with its removable blade. The hilt is crisp with loads of detail for such a small item. It is painted silver with black red and gold details all added - all neat with the exception of the gold which has leached a little into the silver. Luke can hold the hilt in either hand or with both hands in a number of action poses. The blade is a clear blue that slots and clicks satisfyingly into the hilt. The colouring is blue enough for what you would expect, but not too solid in colour. When not being used the hilt of the saber has its very own hook on Luke's belt and it can be hung out of the way. So there he is, the figure that launched the series and that is now being hunted down yet again in the Celebration packaging. With two releases being looked at here then I am going to disregard the prices that these are selling for on the secondary market - assuming we have bought these at their respective RRP. The Celebration packaging will of course be desirable for Mint In Box collectors who are picking up the 40th Anniversary cards. The orange line box will suit those who are collecting the boxed packaging, and keeping them MIB. The figure itself is identical other than some very minor factory variations that are inevitable when you do a new production run. Despite being from 2013, this Luke stands up with any of the current releases and even beats them on the level of painting, weathering and accessories. While the economy has moved on and made this format much harder for Hasbro to put out, the fact is Luke X-Wing is one of the premium figures the line has produced so far and warrants that 5 out of 5 score.

Storm have released the details and promo images of their next Mortal Kombat 1/12 action figure, Sektor! The son of the Grand Master shares the same body sculpt as the recently announced exclusive Smoke - which itself uses the Cyrax body. Sektor comes with 4 hand options, a missile with smoke effect and an enormous compactor accessory to match his fatality move in the game. Sektor is scheduled for a December 2019 release. The son of the Grand Master, it was never in question that Sektor would join the Lin Kuei. What pleases the Grand Master is the degree to which his son relishes the life of an assassin. The secretive clan allows Sektor to express his darker nature, using any means necessary to completes his tasks. Hired by Shang Tsung, his current assignment is to attend the Mortal Kombat tournament and eliminate Earthrealm competitors. Though this mission will put his clan in good standing with Shao Kahn, Sektor's ultimate goal is to supplant his father as Grand Master of the Lin Kuei. Not sure how I missed this one, but it seems McFarlane have confirmed that the next Harry Potter creature will be this fantastic looking Hungarian Horntail. The Horntail was featured in The Goblet of Fire. The Dragon will be 23cm long, and like Buckbeak is not in scale with the McFarlane Harry Potter figures, but rather a different scaled line - very much like how McFarlane have released the Game of Thrones figures and Dragons. As images of the Horntail are released, we also have some nice looking pictures of the first Harry Potter creature, Buckbeak. Buckbeak will arrive in stores in October. We also know that Harry, Ron and He Who Shall Not be Named are starting to show up in stores in the US. It is not clear at this time why Hermione has been delayed? The Star Wars Black Series 6 inch scale Jawa was first released in 2017 on a retro inspired blister card as part of the 40th Anniversary Series. The figure was then repacked as promised in 2018 into the phase 3 packaging and released as part of wave 16. Packaging 4/5 The Jawa is packed in the phase 3 packaging with an interesting illustration on the front which shades the Jawa's cloak and then a pair of piercing eyes peering out of the black hood. The effect is quite striking. Like most Black Series figures, the Jawa is simply named that with no subtitle as to what film he is from. As the Jawa's have appeared in a handful of films they work well as background characters for both prequel and original collections. The figure is number 61 in the line, and this numbering sits on the red spine and round the back of the packaging. The back of the box also carries a short background piece about the Jawa's. "Jawas comb the deserts of Tatooine in search of discarded scrap and wayward mechanicals. Using their cobbled-together weaponry, they can incapacitate droids and drag them to their treaded fortress-homes, immense sand-scarred vehicles known as sandcrawlers." Paint & Sculpt 3/5 The Jawa is the same sculpt and paint job as the 40th Anniversary release from the year before. The details are all in the cloak which wraps the small frame and has a sackcloth type texture built in. The cloak comes with tattered and torn sleeve ends and seams has a sackcloth type texture built in. The head is dealt with as a black swath of bandages with two yellow eyes front and centre. The cloak is not painted as such, being cast in the brown plastic, but there is some subtle weathering around the base of the cloak with a sand brush effect applied. I would have perhaps liked some more paint on that cloak to bring out the texture and enhance the sculpt and overall finish. Over the cloak we have a bandoleer of sorts which has front pouches and on the rear a holster for the Shock Blaster which is attached to the figure by way of a flexible hose. This strapping is well painted with a wash to weather it and metallic buttons picked out on the front. Accessories 3/5 Our Jawa is armed with a Shock Blaster which as we see has been attached to the body. The blaster is cast in a dark plastic with painted wooden stock and panel. It does not fit at all well into the Jawa's hands which are too small to go anywhere near the trigger. When not in use it slots into the holster on the Jawa's back. This fit is tight, but it works. Be careful of pushing it too far through as it is harder to get back out again. The other weapon is an Ion Blaster. This is cast in grey and has a metallic finish. Like the Blaster it does not fit at all well in the hand, and you end up with a carrying pose rather than having the Jawa wield the weapon ready for use. Articulation 3/5 As such as small character articulation was always going to be a touch restricted due to the smaller size of the limbs. The cloak also impacts the poseability, and you end up with a figure whose movement essentially rotates around the arms. Head : ball joint neck Body : waist ball joint Arms : ball joint shoulder, single joint rotating elbow, pivot wrist Legs : ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double joint knees, ankle rocker These arms are not the most mobile either and you can get a few gestures. Coupled with the hand issues in holding the weapons, a lot of poses look awkward. In fact you might be better ditching the weapon and pose the Jawa gesticulating to the droids or other Jawa's on your display. There is some movement in the head, cleverly supported by the hood being separated from the cloak. It is good to see there is full leg articulation under the cape, and while this is not useable on this figure - it means the future cloth robed Jawa will be a lot more mobile. The figure stands really well, mainly thanks to the cloak. Summary The Jawa is an iconic Star Wars alien and one that fits in a number of scenarios - including being a background character for a Jabba the Hutt throne display. They work well as a grouped display and to that end it is good to see the re-release in this case from the more expensive and more sought after 40th anniversary set. That all being said, the figure has flaws. The cloak being sculpted does mean articulation is lost from the waist down and perhaps soft goods might have been a better issue. The cloak is too clean and the paint apps lacking and the various details in the robes are lost. And then we have two weapons that can't be wielded correctly and simply hang from either hand. Storm Collectibles have unveiled another of their King of Fighters 1/12 action figures - Iori Yagami. Iori, from the King of Fighters arcade game, will come with four head options and a wide selection of hand variants. There are also two FX pieces and another piece of the Omega Rugal Gravity Smash Effect - a piece of which comes with each of the four KoF figures. As far as we can see there is no 3.75 inch basic articulation product for The Rise of Skywalker. Instead, Hasbro are expanding on the recent launch of their 5 inch Galaxy of Adventure range with product arriving on Triple Force Friday from the Rise of Skywalker in this new scale. Checkout the product details for each as follows along with the promotional images from Hasbro. The line includes new 5 inch figures of Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren and Chewbacca. We also have a new First Order Jet Trooper and a Darth Vader figure. There is a three pack of the droids - including D-O - and a two pack of Rey and unmasked Kylo Ren. There is also the lines first vehicle, a treadspeeder for the First Order complete with Stormtrooper. Bluefin, in conjunction with Bandai, have announced the Star Wars Figure Kit releases for Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker. The 1/12 figure kits arrive on pre-coloured sprues for assembly. Once built they are fully articulated figures and can also be enhanced with further painting and weathering. No glue is required. The three sets from the Rise of Skywalker are a Kylo Ren, First Order Stormtrooper and a BB-8 and D-0 droid diorama set. The First Order Stormtrooper includes two blasters, riot baton, riot shield, alternative hands and three coloured pauldron options so you can choose what trooper to build and display. Supreme Leader Kylo Ren features two lightsabers - one standard and one "in motion" which looks pretty fantastic. He also comes with an assortment of hand options and what looks like a soft goods cloak but with a moulded hood option of either over the head or down. The article does not confirm a release date and it appears it won't be Triple Force Friday as they only mention one of their Star Wars ship models being available on the 4th of October.
