Mysterio is planned as an October 2020 release, with pre-orders open at most retailers of choice. The 6 inch Basic Hero Han Solo action figure was originally released in 2018 in the US along with a Chewbacca from the movie Solo : A Star Wars Story. Like most of these 6 inch basic figures, the line did not translate to a UK release immediately. In 2019 Chewbacca was released into Lidl stores in a revised box - but no Han Solo. Han eventually showed up at Smyths Toy Superstores in the UK in March 2020, retaining the original white box with yellow logo and card back. These 6 inch basic figures have been a side collection of mine for a while. You can checkout all of them at this page for other Star Wars Action Figures. Packaging 3/5 Like the figures, the packaging for the budget line is basic. It is an enclosed box with a small window at the front to show off the figure torso and head. For Han, the Star Wars logo is in yellow - but makes no direct reference to this being Han from Solo : A Star Wars Story. While one side spine carries a bunch of safety and copyright info, the other has a nice image of Alden Ehrenreich as Han. The back of the box also carries a short piece of background text, the same text as used on the Black Series release of the figure "Han Solo reinvents himself after leaving behind his old life, growing comfortable travelling with law-benders and scoundrels." When you unpack Han, the figure is attached directly to the card back with ties - there is no inner tray. The box would be resealable if you were careful with the ties that can be stretched out to release Han, or to put him back after taking a look at him. These budget figures are made to a fixed 6 inch size and not a 6 inch scale. That means every figure is the same height, which does look odd - look how Han shapes up next to Chewbacca. While some figures (Rey and Luke Jedi Knight) can fit in with the Black Series, Han is a touch too small as seen against his Black Series equivalent. Paint & Sculpt 3/5 The sculpt on these figures has, in the main, been pretty impressive for their price point and Han does have a decent likeness to Alden Ehrenreich. Paint is however basic, and glossy, with simply painted eyes and eyebrows and one tone for the hair. The costume is not a bad representation and we get the black panels on the jacket and silver and red badge on the left hand side. The trousers get the red Corellian blood stripe and the holster with double thigh straps. The belt buckle is painted silver. The figure is made of a very light weight, hollow plastic. Accessories 2/5 Han does come with his blaster. However, this is not a loose accessory and is instead cast as part of the figure and is permanently fixed into the right hand. The shape and details of the blaster are not the best, with obvious warping and bending of the barrel and sights. Articulation 3/5 The articulation on these budget figures has always been around the 4 or 5 point mark, and Han has a total of 4 joints. Head : ball joint neck Arms : rotating pinned shoulder Body : waist swivel Legs : N/A The head is very mobile on the ball joint and is the most versatile of the joints. The arms simply rotate at the shoulder while the legs are fixed completely. There is a rotation joint in the waist which does allow for some slight variation of poses. For what they are, the joints all work well and are tight and hold their positions. Han is no trouble to stand with the static legs sculpted to be flat to the floor. Summary These figures are clearly made for the budget end of the market, and Solo was priced at just £5 at Smyths Toys when I picked him up. I have taken this price point into account when scoring him through this review - rather than making a direct comparison to the Black Series for example. For your £5 you get a well sculpted figure, with basic but neat paint apps and a couple of joints to vary your posing. The packaging is compact, but still designed with thought and includes images of the figure and the short character bio we see on other lines. Of course the fixed accessory and the scale issues wont be to everyones liking. I personally have been picking these up as a side collection over the years - and I am pleased to get Han, which completed my set for now. NECA released a new image on Alien Day 2020 (April 26th) for the first wave of their 40th Anniversary Alien line. This first wave includes Ripley with a new head sculpt, motion detector accessory, cat carrier and a new version of Jonesy to put in it. There is then a re-release of the translucent Xenomorph based on concept designs. And the wave is rounded off by a re-release of Dallas in his Spacesuit, now updated with face print technology. The wave is exclusive in US to Target. Thankfully, when queried on Twitter, Randy Falk has confirmed Worldwide availability. While very few pre-orders are up at this stage here in the UK, we would hope once solicitation takes place we will see many more become available. To celebrate 30 years since the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the movie (from 1990), NECA have shared new promotional images of their 7 inch scale figures of Casey Jones and Raphael in his trenchcoat design. Casey Jones will be armed to the teeth with his hockey stick, cricket bat, two baseball bats and a golf club. These can all be stowed in his backpack. There are a selection of swap out hands to use with each weapon. Sadly, as has been widely queried, there is no unmasked head as the likeness to actor Elias Koteas has not been obtained. Raphael has a soft goods trench coat, removable hat, pizza slice and is armed with his Sai's. There are also swap out hands and a variation for his bandana. The figures will be sold in a 2-pack and will be exclusive to Walmart in the US. NECA have confirmed global distribution for anyone outside the US, via specialist stores as per the other TMNT 1990 movie figures to date. For the 5th year running, and to celebrate Alien Day (26th April 2020), we asked the fans to vote for their favourite 7" scale Alien release to date from NECA. The vote ran for two weeks and was circulated on our webpage and social media channels - including the wonderful NECA Alien, Predator and Terminator fans group on Facebook. ​To keep the list simple we always take the previous years Top 10 and add to that other releases since April 2019. This year saw two non-movers, 5 new entries, 2 climbers and a number of fallers, most of which dropped out of the Top 10 - with one hanging on to a Top 10 slot. The new entries included a number of Ultimates who saw off their older counterpart in the vote this year. The Vote is unofficial and not aligned with NECA in anyway. Jedi Knight Revan was released in April 2020 as part of the new Gaming Greats sub-line of the Star Wars Black Series. The Gaming Greats line is exclusive to Gamestop in the US, and via the Fan Channel worldwide. It brings new 6 inch characters from the various Star Wars video games media. Packaging 5/5 Revan is packed in the standard Phase 3 packaging as far as sizing and shape goes. There is a new cut in to the right of the window as you look which holds a hexagonal Gaming Greats logo. This has a metallic foil finish, similar to the Carbonized figures. A simpler version is found on the side spine where you would normally find a basic release number. The accent colour for these figures Gaming Greats is specific to the figure. For Revan we have a purple accent down the side spine, on the figure card backing and within the character name and Gregory Titus artwork. This is based on his lightsaber colour. The colour is very striking, and an impressive boxed display - with the figure very visible against the purple backdrop, although the lightsaber blade gets a bit lost. Revan is based on his light side Jedi Knight appearance in EA's mobile game, Galaxy of Heroes. The logo for Galaxy of Heroes sits bottom right under the artwork - this use of a logo is specific to video game releases, even before the Gaming Greats line commenced. The back of the box carries the standard text, "The journey from Sith to Jedi is complete in Star Wars : Galaxy of Heroes as redeemed Jedi Knight Revan wields his purple Lightsaber while cloaked in white Jedi robes." Paint & Sculpt 5/5 Revan is a very impressive looking figure, more so in the white and bronze Jed robes. His helmet, sculpted under a rubberised plastic hood, remains the same as the Darth Revan figure with red striping around the visor and some bronze and silver colouring either side. The robes are sculpted with a lot of detail with folds and creases down the hood, shoulders and sleeves. The chest piece is armour of sorts in a deep bronze with a wash to bring out the sculpted designs. The skirt piece is soft goods and does hang a little too straight - it can also be caught in the knee joints which will leave a mark over time. Holding the skirt segment in place are the bronze sash which is more rubberised plastic work. Under the skirt is a full set of sculpted and painted legs with knee armour and shin guards. Paint work is excellent with good use of washes to both weather the armour parts as well as bring out and define the sculpted detail. Like all the Gaming Great figures released/announced at the time of writing, Revan is a re-use of an existing figure - namely the 2016 Darth Revan figure, the fan vote winner for 2015. As well as the recolouring there are some differences. Most notably is the removal of Darth Revan's cape. The hood, while the same cast, does seem to sit lower on the figure. Accessories Revan is equipped with his single Jedi lightsaber. This is made up of a neat looking hilt cast in black and then painted silver while leaving some of the black exposed in the panels. There are also two tiny painted indicators/switches - one green and one red. The saber hilt fits into either hand, but more securely in the right. There is no designed holster or holder, but due to the belt being an individual piece you can slot the saber hilt in the belt. Like all sabers, the blade is a cast translucent piece that slots into the hilt and clicks in place for an ignited saber effect. This single saber - vs the two he has as a Sith - is accurate to the game and there are no other obvious accessories that you would expect. From a value perspective, in terms of price of the item and how much comparaby comes with the Heavy Battle Droid released at the same time, something "else" would have been nice - perhaps an alternative swooshing blade effect like we saw with Count Dooku? Comparing with the 2016 Darth Revan, the saber hilt is identical but is painted in a lighter silver. There is a big difference in the blade, with the 2020 version being thicker and more intense in colour. Articulation 5/5 Jedi Knight Revan has the standard 16 points of articulation for a Star Wars Black Series figure. including the articulated which allows the head to move under and within the confines of the hood. Head : neck ball joint Body : torso ball joint Arms : ball joint shoulder, single joint rotating elbow, wrist pivot Legs : ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double joint knees, ankle rockers Posing in the arms is good, with single and two handed saber fighting poses available. The legs are restricted a little, not by the skirt which is soft goods - but by the larger front sash which will stop any kneeing or crouching poses. All the joints are secure and unlike the previous Revan, the ankle rockers are very secure allowing this Revan to stand perfectly well - while Darth Revan remains a serial shelf diver. Summary Revan will always be a popular character in terms of his roots in the Expanded Universe (Legends). And even if you know nothing about his background, he still looks cool - both as a Sith, but more-so I think in these white Jedi robes. The striking figure is matched by the striking purple accented box, which many collectors will want to keep rather than setting him free. You can argue a lack of accessories vs the Battle Droid, but what you do get is well executed with a thicker and brighter blade than what went before. Review : Darth Revan Star Wars Black Series (Hasbro) Wave/Series : Wave 9 (Phase 3) Released : December 2016 Price : £22.99 Series 9 has arguably been the most desirable wave of Star Wars Black Series since launch. Not only did it bring us the classic 1977 Leia and Obi-Wan, but more contemporary characters like Sabine while also bolstering our Imperial forces with the AT-AT Driver and Snow Trooper. But it seems all of them pale into insignificance when compared to the #34 release - Darth Revan. Now I have to admit I know very little about Darth Revan. I hadn't read much of the Old Republic stuff before Disney Reset, and certainly nothing since as I tried to stick to the new cannon. What I do know about Darth Revan is he looks stunning. The whole design is awesome - a mix of Jedi, Sith and Mandalorian - and when you have a great looking character then fans will always want that on their shelf. Revan was the winner of the first Star Wars Black Series fan vote in 2015. As a winner he was a perfect pick, an iconic character but one that would never be made without the backing of fandom - especially as he technically only exists in the Star Wars Legends sphere and not a part of the accepted Disney canon. It has taken over 12-months to take Revan from the winning vote to reality. And he is hitting stores in such small numbers that at the time of writing this review, Revan is already up with Maul and R2-D2 in terms of secondary market value. Revan arrives in the standard Black Series box, and out of all the figures we have had in the phase 3 red line packs Revan just looks "right" with the deep red card framing the figure so well. Revan is number #34 in this 3rd phase, and under this numbering system Hasbro have just used the Darth Revan name and resisted the need for some kind of sub-title to explain who he is on where he sits in the Star Wars Universe. The grey lined artwork of Revan's hooded face plate is obviously based on his illustrated look from the Knights of the Old Republic. But like Sabine, Kanan and Ahsoka the image is drawn so that it matches all the other illustrations to date of the live action characters. Round the back the temptation to go to town on Revan' backstory has been resisted. Instead we get 4 lines and just 29 words to tell the collector about Revan. Whether this is to allow the room for Disney to play with Revan and introduce him into the new canon like they did with Thrawn or whether they simply don't want to acknowledge or direct people to the old canon? Out of the box you are presented with Revan in the plastic insert, with two lightsabers positioned to the left hand side as you look. Revan, as I mentioned earlier, is just an awesome design and Hasbro have done a really good job of replicating it into the 6" scale. We start with the hood, which is a sculpted rubber rather than a soft good hood and I am really thankful for that having seen how difficult it is to "pose" a soft goods hood on figures like Palpatine, Obi-Wan and Leia. Beneath this ruffled and rolled hood is the mask. The mask is sculpted with panels and that lined visor, and each panel s then painted. The helmet is a gun metal base, with dull red and silver painted over the top - all nice and neat. The hood continues over the shoulders to become the top of the cloak, reminiscent of the way they tackled Kylo Ren. This top section remains cast in the black matt rubber and includes creases and folds and flows over the shoulder tops. From the rear of this cloak top the soft good cloak flows. This cloak is a very light weight and almost sheer black material and this hangs really nicely down the figure. Rather than a flat hem where the cloak ends, the bottom is ragged with holes. This looks nice, but I do worry about the potential of these rips starting to fray. The torso of the figure is a bronze breastplate over which hangs a couple of black panels which seem to be part of the cloak. Like the mask, the sculpted detail on this plate and crisp and angular. However the paint feels a bit thick and some detail is lost. I would also have liked to have seen a final wash over the shiny bronze to weather Revan a little. As the chest plate ends, a waist band starts in the same bronze colouring. Over this flow some sash belts which tie into a circular gold ring which is part of a belt. The bottom two sashes are a rubberised material like the hood to aid in the leg movement which we will look at a bit later. The two arms are a black sculpted sleeve with a slight sheen that differentiates them from the black of the hood. These are then accentuated in bronze shiny bracers and gloves. The skirt section is soft goods which is held in place by the rubber belt. It is a slightly different material to the cloak, a touch thicker and softer - but like the cloak it hangs well enough. It too carries a ragged hem and I have already had some threads come loose on this. The front of the skirt is covered with the red sash which hangs from the belt. This is again a rubberised plastic and holds a textured lined effect. It is painted rather than cast in the red colour, and sadly on my figure a splash of red has caught the black belt above. While there was no need to put detail under the skirt, Hasbro has given us completely finished legs. These start with some trousers over the thighs in the slightly shiny colour to match the arms. There is then a gold knee pad and gold knee high boots. Articulation is standard with Revan, but of course with a cloaked and skirted figure there is a risk of losing some of this. The head is the prime example of this. While you can feel the joint, the head will barely budge under that cloak. The shoulders are ball jointed and sit under the cloak top. You would expect this cloak section to restrict movement, but thankfully the cloak has a touch of flexibility allowing the arms to move upward to 90 degrees. While you cant get the arm side on above the head, you can raise the arm and then work with the elbow joint which bends to a right angle and rotates, this means you can get a hand to a point above the head ready to strike down his enemies. The arm articulation ends in a wrist joint which swivels and pivots - a big help for light saber poses. There is a torso joint tucked away under the chest plate so while the head can't look to the side, the torso joint moves freely to allow the top section of Revan to be rotated to either side. The leg articulation is of course all hidden under the skirt. The skirt being soft goods doesn't restrict any of this leg articulation. But the big red sash does stop you getting Revan to kneel or any similar low bending pose. The hips are ball joined with a thigh swivel sitting just underneath. The knees remain double jointed and the ankles are rockers. I have found Revan a little hard to stand with the ankle rockers on the figure I have a little loose. Now of course this sounds like Revan isn't great to pose, but there is plenty of movement in these joints to get him into a number of action stances. Of course these poses mean nothing until you add his lightsaber accessories. Revan comes with both sabers which are packed already assembled with the hilt and the blade. The blades are removable so you can choose to have the sabers lit or unlit. The red saber has a look of Luke's Return of the Jedi saber, but having compared them I can confirm it is not the same sculpt. The purple saber is a stunning hilt design, and carries a bunch of detail including a red ignition switch. Once Revan has his sabers then the fun can begin and you can pose and play to your hearts content to find an action stance that suits you. So here is a figure that everyone wants, and not everyone can find. When you have a situation like that it is easy to say he's brilliant, but I have to say that although Hasbro have done a sterling job - it is far from perfect. The bronze areas, particularly the chest plate, screams out for a dark wash. The cloak and skirt are going to fray and split too easily with too much handling. The review figure I have did have some paint errors, although it has been quite a while since I have had to comment on that in a review. And then there is the loose ankles. Revan deserves a high score, and I will award him a very very strong 4 out of 5 and I wonder if a couple of tweaks in any future re-release or re-run of the figure would get him over the line to that perfect 5 out of 5. Medicom have released the following promotional images of their MAFEX Age of Apocalypse Magneto 6 inch action figure. The figure features three heads - one unhelmeted, one helmeted, and one helmeted with the face beneath in darkness which looks pretty cool. There is also a helmet accessory for him to carry or have posed with him when using the unhelmeted head. And two magnetic effect pieces. The figure also features a soft goods cloak. Character Options have revealed their full line up for the B&M Doctor Who collectors sets for Summer 2019, and they are stunning. There will be two new TARDIS and Doctor sets - with the 5th Doctor's TARDIS and his appearance from the end of Caves or Androzani. Like the 2018 sets, this release will feature a cardboard diorama scene backdrop. And from Shada a new 4th Doctor and TARDIS, also with a cardboard diorama backing to the box. There are three new 3-packs, starting with a Silver Nemesis pack containing a 7th Doctor and two Silver Nemesis Cybermen - one trooper and one lieutenant. We then have a Sontaran set which introduces Harry Sullivan to the line alongside two Sontarans - Styre and Lynx. And to continue the Sontaran theme is a Two Doctors set featuring Peri, Strike the Sontaran and a Androgum 2nd Doctor. And we have three Doctor and Dalek sets based on the Big Finish audio stories. We already knew about the 8th Doctor and Interrogator Prime. We are also getting a War Doctor and Dalek Scientist, as they appeared in the War Doctor Series, specifically A Thing of Guile. And finally we have a 7th Doctor and Axis Strike Dalek from the Gallifrey VI story. There will be very limited variant sets of each of the three Dalek packs going directly to Big Finish. We await more details on how these will be sold / released. All the sets will be available in B&M in late August.
