Hasbro have announced the first vehicle release for their 6 inch Power Rangers Lightning Collection. The S.P.D. Omega Ranger and Uniforce Cycle will be a boxed release and exclusive to Amazon. The set includes the Omega Ranger complete with FX lightning accessory. The Cycle has a built in stand option for display. The set looks to be shipping in early August 2020. A pre-order link is up on Amazon US but is not yet live. There is no details as yet on price or UK availability. IT’S MORPHIN TIME! The 3rd of NECA's SDCC 2020 exclusives leaked a week or so ago when it was found on sale in a Walmart store in the US. The Unofficial Summer Games Gremlin is based on a 1984 movie advertisement poster showing Stripe in Swimming Gear and tied in to the 1984 Olympic Games in the United States. This new version uses the existing Stripe Gremlin, now wearing soft goods swimsuit and adorned with snorkel, flippers and Olympic Torch. It would have also lined up really well with the 2020 Olympics had they not been cancelled. The box is a standard Ultimate format with opening front cover. The design of the box follows the original 1984 "Unofficial Games" poster design. With SDCC 2020 cancelled, the exclusives will find other routes to market. This set will be sold at Walmart from the 23rd of July for $29.96. It will go online the same day at the NECA Store for both US and iNternational orders. The online sales will be at a higher price of $34.99 and for UK collectors you will be adding around $8 in shipping. That works out at £34 delivered BUT you will be liable for any custom charges. The Black Widow Deluxe Marvel Legends figure was released in Spring 2020, ahead of the movie's original release date and before it was delayed by the Covid 19 global pandemic. The Deluxe format of the box allows for Hasbro to include a variety of parts and accessories, and for the first time a dynamic display stand. Packaging 3/5 The packaging for Black Widow remains the same shape and scooped sides of a regular Legends box, but is wider for the Deluxe format. The contents are well laid out across the window with Widow to the right hand side and the various explosions, weapons and hands to the side of her. The box uses the MCU movie logo at the bottom, but it does away with the usual coloured name plate underneath. The two sides have identical illustrations, one reversed, of Black Widow in her white suit. The images are essentially monochrome with her red hair the only colour - reminiscent of Russian propaganda of the Cold War era. The back of the box shows an image of the figure on the new dynamic stand with the explosions placed underneath. To the right of this image is a red shaped insert showing the various features and articulation points for the display stand. To the left is the usual brief background text. "Natasha Romanov reunites with a group of spies from her past to stop a lethal force" The package opens, like standard Legends figures, via either of the two side panels. The figure slides out in a plastic tray that itself sits in a cardboard backing tray. The top of the tray contains the figure and the bulk of the accessories. If you then lift this off a second part of the tray underneath contains the stand. The cardboard backing is done in a grey shade with the Black Widow logo in the centre. Paint & Sculpt 5/5 The Black Widow MCU sculpts have been getting better and better in recent years, and Hasbro do seem to do a proportionally better job on female sculpts. This figure is no exception with a fantastic likeness to Scarlett Johansson. The face print does such a good job of bringing out the realism of the sculpt, and as normal the eyes are the key part. Do watch out though, the first Widow I bought had a misprint and the eyes were misaligned which threw the look of the figure. The hairpiece is detailed, but is set to one side with longer hair on the left hand side of her face. It is painted in auburn with a darker wash to bring out the details. The suit is a standard body suit, as worn by Widow through her MCU film appearances, but is now presented in white. The body is cast in a white plastic with painted details over the top such as the black strapping round the shoulders, and the red and silver panels and highlights. A belt piece is added as an individual piece and this is attached to the sculpted straps on her thighs. The whole ensemble is crisp and clean, but will suffer from build up of grime and dirt if handled too often. The body and head is shared with the single release for Black Widow in her more traditional black bodysuit. Although visually similar, there is no re-use of parts as far as I can see with the Yelena Belova figure. The head on this figure can be interchanged with other recent Widow figures allowing for some alternative looks. Accessories 4/5 This set is all about the accessories, it is these that take it above that of a General release and into Deluxe status. We start with the weaponry. A pair of Kusarigama, and a pair of pistols. The Kusarigama are fairly detailed with the chain links obvious in the sculpt and with details on the grip and curved blade. The guns are a little basic with some detail around the trigger that is less defined. Both sets of weapons are cast in a hard black plastic with no paint apps added. When not in use, the guns can be slotted into the holsters on Black Widow's thighs. The fit is snug and the guns are held in place securely. To use these weapons, Widow has two alternative pairs of hands included. The first is a set of trigger finger hands to hold the pistols. These work OK, but the guns are a little too small and the trigger finger doesn't quite lock into place and hold them. The second set is a wider grip for the Kusarigama. These grip the weapons well, and it is nice to get a specific set for melee weapons, and not simply use the same trigger hands. The third pair of hands for the figure are the fists she comes fitted with. These are used for fighting stances and are also used with another pair of accessories - the stinger pieces. Each stinger FX piece is cast in translucent blue. You pop off the hands and remove the stinger wrist pieces which slide off - replacing them with the FX piece. The hand goes back on to hold them in place. They look OK, but not brilliant and they remind me too much of the FX pieces used on magical characters as opposed to looking like an electric shock from a wrist stinger. The next group of accessories are the explosions. There are 5 in total, each cast in a translucent orange plastic with some decor added at one end to blend the colour to a darker red. We have two individual blast pieces - one long, one short. There is then a group of blast pieces, a medium sized explosion and a large explosion. Each of these is fitted with a plug at the end which will attach to the stand. They cannot be used without the stand that well as they do not freestand. That is a shame as the larger pieces would have been great as standalone pieces like those included in the Stormtrooper set in the Star Wars Black Series. The stand arrives in a number of pieces. There is a square base with 9 larger holes, and the upright section slots into whichever of these you wish to use. the arm is height adjustable and the end of the arm is a spring loaded claw to grip the figure waste. The larger explosions also fit into one of the free larger holes on the base. There are then smaller holes to plug in the smaller shot pieces. This means there is a quite a large number of combinations you can use. The plastic used is good quality and all the connections are secure - I have seen and used many of these which are a cheaper plastic and do not hold together well. There is even a Hasbro logo on the bottom of the arm - indicating these may be destined for other Hasbro lines. Articulation 4/5 The Widow figure has a total of 16 points of articulation and features the pinless joints at the elbows which does wonders for the overall upper body aesthetic. Head : ball joint neck with pivot Body : torso ball joint Arms : ball joint shoulder, pinless rotating elbow, wrist pivot Legs : ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double joint knees, ankle rockers Overall the articulation is tight and ratcheted in places making Widow very secure and easy to pose. The lack of any armour or bulky clothing makes posing quite extensive including the ability to knee and crouch. As with most female Legends figures, there is a lack of elbow movement by means of only having a single joint and not double. The figure also suffers a little in the shoulders as they do not quite fold flat to the body and are left sticking out in many poses. The stand brings a new dimension to displays and posing straight out of the box. It is designed along the same lines of the Japanese Dynamic stands with a secure base and a waist clip on a height adjustable arm. The figure is held securely by the sprung loaded waist clip and then you can adjust the height and base position for jumping poses, or for flight for other characters. There are also pegs on the base, so you can peg the figure into the base and create running poses with the explosions either side. Summary The Black Widow Deluxe set is a fantastic looking figure with a great likeness to Scarlett Johansson. The value of the set is in the accessories and the stand. The accessories are OK, but not too much more than you'd get in a standard release. The stand is very well done and allows for a number of options for display with the FX explosions and ricochet pieces doing a great job - although it would have been nice to have an option to use them effectively without the stand. For circa £30 at retail, the stand plus figure and accessories represents good value for money, and gets us another MCU Black Widow in a very different coloured outfit han all the black suits we have had to date. I score the Deluxe Marvel Legends Black Widow a 4 out of 5. We first saw the Revoltech Amazing Yamaguchi Cable figure as an unpainted prototype at Winter Wonder Festival Japan 2020. Now we can see the figure in all its glory with these newly released images. Cable includes two large weapons as well as a pair of hand guns. He also comes with an FX piece to clip on to his left eye as well as alternative hands. With SDCC 2020 cancelled, NECA are revealing their exclusives and sending them to market via different channels this year. The Ultimate City Demon from Predator 2 looks fantastic, presenting the figure in clear plastic with lightning accents as seen as he climbs the buildings in 1990 Los Angeles. The set uses the Ultimate City Hunter body with 30 points of articulation as well as the retractable wrist blades. Accessories include combi stick, discs and a human skull. Alternative hands are provided for each accessory and posing. The figure is packed in the Ultimate box format with the opening front cover. The box features a lightning effect that activates when opened. The set will be sold in Walmart stores in the US from Thursday the 23rd of July. NECA have released the details of their 2020 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Convention Exclusive Box Set. The set would have been sold at SDCC 2020, but due to the cancellation of SDCC 2020 it will now be offered in a number of different ways.... The set features the four turtles in the TMNT Musical Mutagen Tour Pack. This looks to be based on the Turtles "Coming out of their Shells" World Tour that took place in 1990, endorsed and supported by Pizza Hut. Checkout this video The Turtles swap their weaponry for musical instruments with the set including a saxophone, keyboard, guitar and bass. There are soft good denim jackets for the Turtles, complete with Tour logo on the back. The set includes some additional mask accessories and interchangeable hands. Tamashii Nations held their Summer Features Event as a Virtual tour, with a number of reveals on display - although the overall output was quite lacklustre. The virtual tour was a great idea and worked well until you hit the reveals which were all hidden and accessible to visitors in Japan only who had Tamashii club membership. There was a fantastic diorama display for the new Iron-Man figures including the cave workshop for Tony (images from AmiAmi) For Marvel we have a number of tweaked figures. There is a new Doctor Strange with wired cape and some adjusted accessories from Infinity War, The Battle of Titan. We are then getting a new Thanos and Thor from Endgame - the final battle versions. Thanos is shown with damaged armour while Thor is full on lightning mode with multiple FX pieces and both Mjolnir and Stormbreaker. Scarlet Witch gets a re-release, now with painted red eyes. And the Mk7 Avengers Iron-Man suit is repainted and re-released at some point. And of course there is the Mk85 Iron-Man from Endgame with unmasked Tony Stark head, battle damage decor and Nano Gauntlet. It also includes a diorama base to recreate Tony's final scenes. Iron-Man Mk7, Mk85 and Scarlet Witch are official solicitations with a November 2020 release date. There is also an image circulating of a new head sculpt for Falcon with smiling head. I am not sure on where this originates. He is holding Cap's shield, and this may be a very early look at a figure from the upcoming Disney+ show. I am afraid I can't translate the wording on the image. Star Wars had a small display focusing on The Mandalorian. There was nothing new here, just another look at the two Mandalorian figures and IG-11. The Remnant Stormtrooper and Speeder Bike & Scout were also included - but were not marked up for release yet, saying "display only". Next to Star Wars was a solitary DC figure in the shape of the already confirmed Wonder Woman 1984 figure. Great Scott! Here is the newest Robot in Disguise, Gigawatt, celebrating the 35th Anniversary of Back to the Future. Gigawatt transforms into the BTTF Delorean complete with adjusting hover mode wheels because where we are going, we don't need roads/ The figure also features a whip type aerial which converts to a weapon and a blaster. Gigawatt features Doc Bro inspired goggles and a Flux Capacitor in his chest. The set is limited, initially at least, to 1985 units and will be sold exclusively by Walmart in the US. Great Scott! NECA are planning a week of reveals for the exclusives that had been planned for SDCC 2020. With SDCC cancelled, NECA are bringing these to market his other channels. But it seems one of the four exclusives promised has leaked early with these images showing up online from a Wal-Mart store in the US. The pack is Gremlins and looks to be tied in to the Summer Olympics, ironically now also cancelled. It features the Stripe in swimming trunks and snorkel, and carrying the Olympic flame. As the packaging states this is unofficial and not aligned to the Olympics at all. Anakin Skywalker was released in the 2nd wave of the Star Wars Black Series Archive Series. The Archive line re-releases older and more sought after figures from the Black Series back catalogue, giving them appropriate upgrades with face print technology. Anakin was first released in the Phase 1 orange line in 2014, the Archive release updated the figure with face print to further enhance the likeness. Packaging 3/5 The Archive packaging is a blister card rather than a box, and moves to a split black and grey backdrop - with black used for the top of the card and the left hand side while grey is used for the figure backing and the right hand side. The black series logo remains in place at the top with the character name orientated down the left side of the blister and the ARCHIVE wording to the right. The card is shaped with a V-cut out, and the blister is then shaped to match with a cut out at the top left corner. An insert is used in the front of the blister in a triangle to show off the Gregory Titus artwork. This is a new piece and was not used on the original 2014 release. The image is used again on the card back alongside a image of the original figure in the orange line box with an orange text box used to confirm the date. Under this sits a brief piece of background text for Anakin as was in Revenge of the Sith. This text differs from that used on the back of the 2014 release. "Anakin - now Darth Vader - turns to the Dark side and battles Obi-Wan Kenobi in a lightsaber duel on the lava planet Mustafar" Being a blister card, the one drawback of the Archive line is that the packaging is essentially destroyed upon opening. There is no option to repack like we have with the boxed figures. Paint & Sculpt 4/5 The big selling point of this repacked Anakin is the use of the new face print technology on the original head sculpts. Both heads look fantastic with this treatment, and it is all about the eyes with the Anakin head with kinder eyes, while the Vader head is just pure rage and evil. Anakin's scar is much more natural and even the hair is improved by painting the inner piece where it can be seen so there is no flesh coloured hair behind the neck piece. Sadly the aforementioned neck piece is not improved. You still have a very big and very visible neg pivot joint and because the body is cast in dark plastic it is made worse by seeing the black base colour round the joint. While articulation is great, this is one joint I would have gladly lost in favour of a simple ball joint. The outfit is unchanged from 2014 and painted in almost identical colours despite the 5 year gap. The torso is made up of layers with a brown undershirt, darker brown robe and black leather look outer garment. Anakin has his wrapped mechanical arm with plenty of details on the fastenings. The belt too is very detailed and painted in a darker brown with silver and some orange highlight parts. The skirt section is part rubbery plastic and part soft goods, allowing for some better leg articulation as you will see later. The fabric parts do seem to be better behaved on this version an do not flare out so much at the sides. The legs remain plain brown and the boots a darker finish. And despite plenty of detail on the boots, with straps and fastenings, none are painted. Accessories 3/5 Considering the inclusion of the Sith/Vader head, it is still a shame that soft goods outer robes were and are still not included in the pack. That look of Anakin leading the 501st up the temple steps is iconic and it would have been awesome to recreate this. Thankfully there are secondary market options you can purchase and use. Anakin is packed with his lightsaber. This is again the same piece as 2014 and not the one used in Luke Skywalker releases as it comes without the belt hook and is instead cast with a plug to fit into a socket on Anakin's belt. It is cast in a grey plastic with painted black fins, red on the adjustor button and bronze on the slide on ignition. Despite the scale the parts are well painted. The saber fits into either of Anakin's hands and he can just about get into a two handed pose. The translucent blue blade is removable but does not clip into place like others and therefore it is prone to falling out. The saber hilt is the same as the one packed with Anakin originally, it is essentially painted the same with the 2019 version being a touch crisper. There is an additional black strip near the blade end above the red button on the new version. The 2019 blade is a touch lighter than the original 2014 counterpart. Articulation 4/5 Anakin has a total of 16 points of articulation, he missed out on double jointed elbows with Hasbro tweaking at this point in 2014 to use the single rotating elbow joints. Head : ball joint pivot neck Body : ball joint waist Arms : ball joint shoulder, single rotating elbows, wrist pivot Legs : ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double joint knees, ankle rockers It is these elbow joints that pose the most issue for a lightsaber wielding character. A two handed pose is just about doable, but in more of a softer stance and not raised to parry or strike. More modern Jedi get a butterfly shoulder to help with this, but Archive Anakin does not get this upgrade either as it would have meant retooling which is not the point of the Archive releases. The neck peg works fine but as noted above is one of the ugliest in the line to date and does detract from the look of the figure. The waist ball joint facilitates some forward lean and the legs support more action orientated poses including kneeling - with the skirt section not hindering the legs at all thanks to the soft goods. Every joint is tight and secure with ratchets in place on many, particularly the ankle rockers. Anakin is very easy to stand and pose. Summary There is no disputing that the Archive release of Anakin hugely improves both head sculpts from the original and brings him inline with more recent releases. Sadly the set does not fix the very unsightly neck joint - nor does it give us the soft goods outer robes to truly create a Darth Vader Anakin. Articulation is a touch limited in the elbows. But everything else moves and works well. And the figure is very well executed in terms of the outfit and details on things like the belt, wrapped mechanical right arm and the lightsaber hilt. The Archive packaging and these tweaks to the figure do not devalue the 2014 original while giving fans the opportunity to add Anakin to the collection. The Archive also gives MIB collectors another option for display as a side line. I score the Archive Anakin Skywalker 4 out of 5, the same as the original figure with not quite enough done to bring this in with top marks.
