This week saw a Hasbro Livestream panel by the Power Rangers team who revealed a number of new products in the 6-inch Lightning Collection. Announced first was a set of Power Rangers SPD figures. Rather than a wave, the four SPD figures will be spread across a number of retailers as exclusives. The Red and Yellow Rangers will be sold via the Fan Channel worldwide and via we assume via Hasbro Pulse. The Green Ranger will be sold via BestBuy in the US and the Pink Ranger via Gamestop. We would assume outside of the US these two will also go via the Fan Channel and Hasbro Pulse. There are two new twin-packs, with the In Space Blue Ranger vs the In Space Psycho Silver Ranger. And the Mighty Morphin Power Ranger vs Scorpina. The panel ended with a couple of future teases. We got a look at Andros, the Red Space Ranger from Power Rangers in Space, who will be released later this year. There was then an accessory tease with a blaster shown but no details on whom it belongs to - although the common consensus is it belongs to a Phantom Ranger. All the figures, bar Andros, are on pre-order now for an August 2021 release. It's Morphin Time! This article contains spoilers for the show so you should proceed with caution The brand new Masters of the Universe series, Revelation, will be heading to Netflix on the 23rd July 2021. The show is spearheaded by Kevin Smith will see a reboot of our favourite 1980's heroes in a classic story of adventure. And of course, the new show is bringing with it new toys. Mattel's 7-inch scale Masters of the Universe : Revelation action figures will start to land a month before its debut with a June 15th release planned for the first wave of figures. Each of the Mattel figures features 30 points of articulation as well as appropriate weaponry and accessories. We start with four basic 7-inch figures of He-Man, Skeletor, Evil-Lyn and Moss Man. And He-Man will be joined by a 14-inch head-to-tail Battle Cat. He will include removable armour to reveal Cringer. The launch wave will then be joined (hence the spoiler warning earlier) by a 9-inch tall Skelegod figure. There is no background information on this new iteration of Skeletor, but it will be fun finding out. As the Super7 Ultimates line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reaches Wave 5, collectors who missed out on the earlier release Turtle figures are being offered a 2nd chance to pick up the full team in a version 2 re-release. The figures of Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello were initially split one Turtle per wave across the first 4 releases. Now they are available as a single wave on their own. This item was provided free of charge to us by Hasbro and their PR company for review and photography. The views in this review remain my own. In the past few years, Thanos has been a regular fixture in the Marvel Legends line both through his MCU appearances but also the comic book look with a build-a-figure release in 2015 to a Walmart exclusive in 2018. The latest version moves Thanos into a Deluxe release box allowing additional accessories to be included. This Thanos is the 'Infinity Gauntlet' version, based on the 1991 comic-book series of the same name by Jim Starlin and with artwork from George Perez and Ron Lim. Thanos is packed into a Marvel Legends Deluxe box with side artwork depicting Thanos wielding the Infinity Gauntlet and inspired by the original comic book artwork. The box also carries the original comic book 'Infinity Gauntlet' logo and focuses very much on a gold accent colour on the black base. The back of the box shows Thanos seated on his throne, with Lady Death positioned behind him. This throne is repeated as a backing illustration on the inner card which could be converted with some ingenuity to a display piece for your Thanos figure. The back of the box carries a short but succinct piece of text that reads:- "The Mad Titan Thanos seizes control of the hallowed Infinity Gauntlet and wields near-omnipotent power. Who can stop this vicious new overlord?" Thanos stands 7.5 inches tall and is a weighty piece in hand. While the look is similar to the 2015 and 2018 versions, this is an entirely new Thanos that loses the armoured look from the previous two iterations to a more natural muscular body. Each part is cast in the base colour with a deep glossy blue contrasting with the shiny, although not quite metallic, gold colour on the hands, boots, shoulder piece and around the belt. The painted detail comes in around the chest and the waist skirt section and it is all neat and tidy but does present as a slightly different shade to the rest of the body. Thanos arrives with a standard head in place depicting the classic comic book Thanos with bright blue eyes, an open snarling mouth and bright white teeth on red inner gums. The purple skin tone and ridged chin are captured well and the helmet sits over the head and utilises the same blue & gold tones as the body. As a Deluxe release. Hasbro has also found the opportunity to include a 2nd head, that of the bearded King Thanos from the 2016 Thanos series by Jeff Lemire, Mike Deodato and German Peralta. This head swaps out neatly and now includes a withered grey beard tied into a Viking knot with gold rings. Thanos is now wearing his crown, a gold version of his usual helmet, but with 9 spires coming off the helmet to form a ring to the crown. The head is a nice inclusion but doesn't necessarily deliver a full King Thanos look. In the 2016 comic, Thanos is seen as more bloated and with different and more extensive armour with fur trim. If he retains his popularity, then we may see this version in the future now the head is already in play. Just as important to the set is the Infinity Gauntlet itself, and we have two options to convert Thano's left hand to the Infinity Stone Gauntlet. The parts clip off at the wrist joint and are easy enough to swap. We get the option to have one Gauntlet with the hand open as though about to grab something, and a second posed ready to snap its fingers. Both are cast in the same gold as the body armoured parts and feature the 6 stones each painted in a base gloss colour with yellow, blue, purple and orange across the knuckles and the green on the back of the hand, and the red round on the base of the thumb. Despite his bulk, Thanos comes with a decent level of articulation, boasting 19 points of articulation in total. This provides plenty of stances to choose from, supported by a robust set of ankle rockers as well as thigh swivels and the hip joint. It is slightly disappointing that Thanos can't actually fully sit down so if you are thinking about a scratch-built throne, you may need to get creative. The waist is articulated so as to swivel and above this is a T-joint torso to allow ab crunch so we can have Thanos leaning down to inspect his enemies or his minions. The head sits on a pegged ball joint which can rotate but can't look down or up as much as it would if a pivot had been included. The arms are where we want the movement to be so Thanos can be posed wielding the gauntlet. It is here that Hasbro has perhaps not gone far enough - so while we do get a bicep swivel, the elbows are single jointed so don't quite bend to 90 degrees - enough to get the Infinity Gauntlet up to snap position but not as close to the head as we'd like. All the joints are tight, secure and keep Thanos in place once posed. As a Deluxe release, Thanos delivers in terms of heft and bulk and has a good presence on the shelf alongside the usual 6-inch scaled comic book figures. The colours are bright and bold and the included Infinity Gauntlet parts work well. The additional head is a nod rather than a full attempt to recreate King Thanos and should be seen as such. It would have been nice for Hasbro to perhaps go all-in on this set with a Throne and Lady Death figure, as seen on the back of the box, included. That would have driven the price up substantially and needed some articulation tweak to make sure Thanos could be seated. It is perhaps something we can hope for from the Legends team in the future as the world-building continues. The next Batman One:12 Collective figure from Mezco, the Gotham by Gaslight Batman, has gone up for pre-order, along with a full gallery of the contents. This 19th Century inspired Batman looks spectacular, particularly with the included glider which can be posed using the hinged wings either spread for flight mode or collapsed as though landed. Batman also comes with three head options as well as a Batman Cowl and a pair of goggles. There are ten swap-out hands and Batman is armed with six throwing knives, four folding Batarang, and a grappling hook. The figure also features a soft goods cloak, with an internal wire for posing. The figure comes with the usual Display Stand and Post. Gotham by Gaslight Batman is up for pre-order now via Mezco, and you won't get him anywhere else as he is a Mezco Store Exclusive. Diamond are unveiling all their planned SDCC 2021 exclusives this week, and in the absence of a show this year - the sets are being sold via Diamond's own Gentle Giant store and via the Previews catalogue to stockists. The Muppets will be represented by a two-pack of Bunson and Beaker in the 'Lab Accident' set. The pack will include the existing figures of both characters, but with a special paint job to recreate a failed lab experiment. The set will be packed in a window box, and is limited to 3000 pieces. It is most likely to ship around June/July 2021. Meemeemeemee! Beaker is in a panic, because he and Dr. Honeydew have been in some kind of lab accident! The Star Wars Black Series is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Lucasfilm in 2021 with a number of special releases. These include a trio of figures that have been given a paint treatment to pay tribute to the original Kenner figures, and then placed onto Vintage cardbacks. Greedo is one of these figures, released in May 2021 as an Amazon exclusive. Like the other Vintage carded figures in The Black Series, the card itself is a direct recreation of the original Kenner card down to the promo image, nameplate, backing colour and twin tramlines. The back of the card does continue the Vintage theme, but there is a modern twist added with the timeline for the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary, under this is the text "Commemorate the first 50 years of Lucasfilm with figures inspired by the original Star Wars trilogy!" Like the original Kenner packaging, the card does not allow the figure to be removed and resealed later like the normal Black Series box. You will need to rip the card or cut the blister to extract your Greedo figure. The premise of these Vintage Kenner inspired figures is to take the existing Black Series figure and tweak and recolour it as it was in the 1970's and 80's. For Greedo, this means a full bright green jumpsuit with darker green rings around the elbows. The head and hands are presented in a similar blue with darker glossy eyes. The new figure does retain some variances to the original, notably keeping hold of the gunslinger belt which never appeared on the Kenner release. The Black Series figure also has shoes rather than knee-high boots. The paint apps are relatively plain but crisp and bright and where detail is added such as the eyes, or on the belt, the application is neat and tidy. There are some slight variations in coloured plastic between the upper thigh, waist and lower torso and the corresponding lower legs and upper torso. These are more noticeable under strong light. The new Kenner version of Greedo uses the entirety of the original 2013 figure, minus the jacket. It is noticeable that the new Greedo's legs sit straighter in the hip joints while the original Greedo always stood a little bow-legged. Greedo comes with the same small black plastic blaster as the original 2013 figure. The original Kenner figure had a blaster like Han's DLT-44 and Kenner Greedo held this in his left hand rather than his right. These changes to the original Black Series figure would have been more difficult and would have required new parts, so leaving the blaster 'as was' works with the sculpt and belt holster. When not in use the blaster slips neatly into said holster and holds position well. Greedo has 16 points of articulation, the exact same configuration as originally used on the Black Series with double-jointed knees and single joint rotating elbows. All the joints on Greedo work as they should, and they are tight and ratcheted where they need to be for stability and to hold posing. With such a slim build, Greedo is easy to pose without anything to get in the way of any of the limbs. He can shoot (first or second) draw or holster his blaster and gesticulate with his extra long fingers. These Vintage figures are certainly aimed at a nostalgic market and collectors of a certain age who remember these original, often oddly coloured, Star Wars figures from their childhood. It is a niche within the wider niche of Vintage carded 6-inch figures that itself is a niche within the wider Black Series. The beauty of the figure is most likely the card and keeping the figure carded, and it's good to see Amazon seem to have resolved the damage issue they've had on previous carded exclusives like the Carbonite Han Solo. But he also has a place in a loose collection and is not so wildly variant that he could - like the Kenner inspired 4-LOM and Zuckuss - sit within a standard Black Series collection without looking out of place. NECA have released four new images for their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle release of Mondo Gekho and Kerma from the TMNT animated series line. Mondo will be packed in an Ultimate format closed front window box, with Kerma seen more as an accessory than this being a 2-pack release. Mondo will be packed with his skateboard, DX-Blaster, arm gauntlet, time-bomb, and a baby gecko.
