A new Mattel Masters of the Universe Revelation Deluxe figure of Fakar has been revealed. The set utilises the standard release of He-Man with some considerable adjustments to the torso, arms, and head to recreate Faker as a robot imposter. The set includes He-Man's sword and shield and a shoulder frill section reminiscent of the original 1980's figure. As well as spare hands, there are also two heads available allowing you to alternate between He-Man head, partial robot, or full robot heads. Iron Studios are delving into the 2nd series of The Mandalorian, with the release in 2022 of The Mandalorian and Moff Gideon as they face each other on Gideon's cruiser. The two pieces are in the 1/10 Art Scale polystone line and are sold seperately. DinDjarin is sculpted with his Beskar spear, while Gideon wields the Darksaber. They are designed as complementary pieces and can be joined for a wider diorama. Both set are out in the 2nd quarter of 2022. The Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, better known as Mando, is ready to face his opponent, fixing his right leg as a support, and his left leg in attack position, on the base of the floor of his enemy's Imperial spacecraft. Carrying his Beskar spear, which is made of a metallic alloy, also used in Mandalorian armor, the spear is known for its resistance, even from a Light Saber. Mando uses all of his combat abilities in his rescue mission of the small and mysterious child called Grogu, or Baby Yoda, as he is popularly known, with whom he created affectionate bonds. Facing the hero is the officer Moff Gideon, an agent of the Imperial Security Bureau, law enforcement, and intelligence arm of the fallen Galactic Empire, who advances wielding the legendary Shadow Saber, the only black lightsaber in the Star Wars canon. The black lightsaber was stolen long ago from the Jedi Temple of Coruscant by Clan Vizsla of Mandalorians and has become a symbol of the Mandalore. Anyone who wields it can claim the Mandalorian throne. Hasbro Pulse Con 2021 will take place this Autumn and a number of exclusives will be lined up for the event. The M.O.D.O.K. World Domination Tour collection will feature an adjusted version of the Marvel Legends M.O.D.O.K with an Elvis-inspired quiff. The figure also comes with alternative hands and a pair of sunglasses. To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Lucasfilm in 2021, Hasbro have released a number of Star Wars figures from the Black Series line in special commemorative series - including the Publishing Wave, four figures celebrating the history of Star Wars books, graphic novels, and comic books. One of the most obscure characters in the wave was Jaxxon, a character who dates as far back as the Original Trilogy itself. He first appeared in the Star Wars Comic by Marvel, debuting in Issue 8 in 1977. He is a Lepi smuggler who would go on to appear through to issue 11 and then have appearances in issue 16, and much later in issue 108. He would then make a return in the IDW series, Star Wars Adventures. The Publishing Wave figures are supplied in a closed box format, designed to look like a book with a front cover that replicates the source material - in this case, the IDW Star Wars Adventures, specifically the Adventures Annual from 2019. The right-hand side of the box, and the top and bottom, carry greyscale comic panels featuring Jaxxon - while the left-hand spine is designed to look like a book spine and carries the character name and a greyscale artwork of Jaxxon. The rear of the box is turned over to the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary with the golden logo and a golden timeline of the Lucasfilm Star Wars era. This carries a short piece of text underneath before moving over to the Copywrite and legal notes. "Commemorate the first 50 years of Lucasfilm with figures inspired by Star Wars books and comics!" The front cover of the box opens, held in the closed position by a circular Velcro tab. Inside we see a more traditional (Phase 3) window box for Jaxxon, while the inside of the strap contains more IDW artwork of Jaxxon, alongside Dengar, as well as some background information. "Jaxxon is a nearly 6-foot tall, green-furred, Lepi smuggler and captain of the Rabbit's Foot. Known for his wise cracks and high kicks, Jaxxon has helped Han Solo and Chewbacca out on more than one occasion." It is not immediately obvious (or it wasn't to me anyway) what figures had donated parts to create a Jaxxon figure. It turns out Luke Skywalker is the key doner, with legs from the Tattooine Farmboy Luke and the torso and arms from the X-Wing Pilot figure. The head is of course new, as is the belt and the shoulder armoured piece that does a good job of disguising the X-Wing suit. This is not perhaps a direct match to the costume of Jaxxon in the IDW comics, but we are talking about an illustrated character and the use of a Rebel flight suit does give it some grounding in the Star Wars universe. The issue in taking a cartoon character, and one as comical as Jaxxon, and putting it into the Black Series is how it will translate alongside the other "real world" characters. The Clone Wars, Rebels and Bad Batch, as examples, are less of a translation than Jaxxon, but I do like the treatment of and details within the Jaxxon sculpt that does add realism and I can see him as something you might find in the Cantina or at Jabba's Palace. The clothing are perhaps left a touch too bright and clean, and considering the circles Jaxxon operates in, some weathering and added grime would have worked wonders. Jaxxon is packed with a twin pair of blasters, taken from the existing line and as previously included with Jaina Solo and Doctor Aphra. They are cast in black and fit into the twin holsters provided. Their fit into the hands is less impressive. The right hand is fine, but the left hand has not been provided with a trigger finger - taken directly from the Luke X-Wing figure - and that means Jaxxon cant wield two blasters naturally with the left looking a little awkward and quite often slipping out of the grip. Articulation for Jaxxon has a total count of 16 points, with double joints on the knees but only singles on the elbows. The figure does everything I'd want it to do, he can even sit down and kneel as required with the belt working with the articulation in the lower legs. All the joints are tight and secure. It is worth noting a very large gap at the back of the head above the collar line. Its job is to allow more movement in the head, but it is unsightly - although how many of us display our figures from the back? Jaxxon is a figure that has always been divisive in the Star Wars Universe. As a figure, it will do the same. The packaging is excellent and offers a great display backdrop for collectors who open their figures as I do. The figure itself doesn't present as an obvious kitbash and the new head sculpt is impressive and pushes the figure into a real-world setting rather than being a direct comic book translation. The only issues I have are the left hand without a trigger finger and the colouring of the costume which might have been nicer toned down with some weathering. 2021 saw Lucasfilm celebrate its 50th Anniversary and to mark the occasion Hasbro released a number of Star Wars products that marked areas and eras of Lucasfilm. The most intriguing releases were what are referred to as the 'Publishing' Wave - a set of four Star Wars Black Series figures based on Star Wars Books, Graphic Novels and Comic Series, Darth Maul was one of these releases, with a release that is based on the 2001 Darth Maul graphic novel by Rick Magyar, Jan Duursema, and Ron Marz. The story details Maul's journey before The Force Awakens and his apprenticeship to the Sith Lord, Darth Sidious. What is particularly striking about this line of figures is the use of a closed box that itself looks like a book, and the recreation of the original source materials cover on the front flap. Greyscale comic panels are included on the right spine and the top and bottom of the box. The left side art looks again like a book spine and takes us back a little with the grey-lined art image of Darth Maul. The back of the box carries a golden text timeline of the 50 years of Lucasfilm with a short piece of text around the anniversary and Lucasfilm rather than the figure and the contents. "Commemorate the first 50 years of Lucasfilm with figures inspired by Star Wars books and comics!" The box has an opening front flap, held in place by a singular Velcro tab. Inside we have a familiar box front for the black series - albeit the Phase 3 boxes - with the Darth Maul figure in place against a grey card back. The other side of the flap is decorated with an image directly from the pages of the graphic novel and it is here we now have a more in-depth piece of background text. "Darth Sidious' apprentice and enforcer Darth Maul has cut his way through the ranks of the galactic crime syndicate Black Sun to take on the pinnacle of their organization" The Darth Maul Sith Apprentice figure is a bit of a hybrid taking the lower body from the original 2013 Darth Maul figure. The torso and arms are shared with the Gaming Greats Night Brother figure, while the head is new. The lower body is still a good match to the robes we see Maul wear in the graphics. They are cast in base black with the only applied decor a glossier black finish to the boots and the belt/sash. The upper body is well proportioned and doesn't look out of place once attached to the shirt and lower legs. The torso is cast in black with the red-painted, while the arms are cast in red with the black painted. That does mean the arms present a bit brighter red than the torso or indeed the head. The markings are pretty accurate to the illustration on the cover, but they do stop too early on the forearms as they should extend onto the hands - this does leave the hands looking unfinished. The new Maul head sculpt is glorious, capturing that smiling/snarling expression of Maul. The paintwork is good with the teeth and eyes particularly good via the face print decor technology. The markings are well painted and neat, as is the yellow bone colour applied to the horns. Maul is armed with his double-bladed lightsaber. The same one that came with the original release - although it does look and feel sturdier and crisper. Like the original, it can be split apart to act as two sabers with each hilt cast in silver with red added to the dials. The blades can be removed also, and these arrive straight and true in a translucent red. Like the old figure, there is a socket on the right-hand side of Maul's belt which can be used to holster the saber blade by inserting the pin on the saber into the socket. Articulation is where this figure trumps the original iteration of Maul, coming in with 19 points of articulation overall. While the lower legs remain an issue and are essentially locked in place by the skirt the upper body is very expressive with added butterfly shoulder joints and joints at both the top and base of the neck that allows loads of movement in the head. The figure does remain difficult to stand as the feet do not seem to want to go flat to the floor. There are plenty of posing options for Maul, with two-handed poses available for his saber and not just in a resting position but also into striking poses. The legs are workable and can slide out to wider action stances, the skirt does accommodate that, it is just a pity the skirt is not soft goods and the legs a little slimmer for the more intricate of Darth Maul's (Ray Park's) movements to be replicated. it is a little unfair to say this is a full-on kitbashed figure, considering the torso is essentially new - just shared with another figure - and the head is a new piece. The combination of this new torso and the original lower body does work - although the reality is the figure was crying out for some reworking in those legs and a soft good skirt to really realise the range of Maul when he is fighting. The only other issue is the markings not extending onto the hand. The packaging is what makes this figure, and while I am an opener I am considering that these figures will be displayed with the box if space allows. The latest Hasbro Pulse Fan First event was from the Power Rangers team and included the reveal of the next full wave of Power Rangers Lightning Collection figures. Wave 10 will be made up of the Green Ranger from Dino Charge, the In Space Pink Ranger, the Yellow Ranger from Zeo, and the In Space Phantom Ranger. The Green, Pink, and Yellow Rangers all come with unmasked heads - and all four Rangers feature alternative hands, weapons, and FX blast pieces. The bad guy's deluxe figures are also getting a further release, with Eye Guy. He includes a separated eye accessory, blast FX pieces, and an alternative set of hands. His mouthpiece is articulated to open like an eyelid and reveal a larger eye within. Released today via Marvel.com are a look at the first products for Spider-Man : No Way Home. Alongside the Funko Pops, role-play items and kid-focused action figures were four new Marvel Legends reveals. These include two new versions of Spider-Man. The first is what looks like a newer version of the Iron-Spider suit, the second is a brand new Black & Gold Version. We can also look forward to an updated Doctor Strange, although this looks very similar to the Infinity War 3-pack release - although notably, the Eye of Agamotto is now missing the green Time stone for obvious reasons. There is also a figure of the returning J. Jonah Jameson who is featured in a blue suit with a very appropriate finger-pointing posed hand. There are no details or context around these, but they are likely part of a wider Marvel Legends MCU wave later this year. Kaiyodo have revealed a limited edition translucent variant of their Amazing Yamaguchi Carnage figure. The release will feature Carnage with an array of alternative parts and effects, all realised in translucent red plastic. He will be an October 2021 release. There is an image of a similar treatment for Venom within the promotional shots released, this has not yet officially been announced - but is a very obvious tease for a further release in the same style. NECA have announced that they are repacking The Faun and Ofelia from Pan's Labyrinth into a Walmart Exclusive 2-Pack. These two figures, part of the Guillermo Del Toro collection, will be updated to included digital face deco. They will come with most of the same accessories as the originals - although images of the exact contents have not been shared. From the announcement, we have adapted the existing images as follows - with Ofelia losing the Pillar from the original release. The set is heading to Walmart in the US sometime this month (July 2021) but there are as yet no details of a release outside of the United States, NECA’s collaboration with renowned movie director Guillermo Del Toro brings select characters from Del Toro’s films to life in premium action figure format with deluxe added elements. This action figure 2-pack includes the Faun and Ofelia from the dark fantasy film Pan’s Labyrinth. Both figures feature new digitally printed face deco. Ofelia stands approximately 5” tall, is fully articulated and comes with detailed accessories from the movie, including fairies, key, and book that opens.
