New York Comic-Con is upon us with a blend of online and in-person events. Bluefin Brands have confirmed two Storm Collectibles NYCC 2021 exclusive releases, starting with a variant Evil Ryu from Street Fighter and followed by a Mortal Kombat variant Kung Lao in an alternative outfit and with a new effect part not included in the main release. The two figures will be sold via Bluefin Brands for the duration of NYCC while stocks last. They will be joined by the exclusive Demetri from Darkstalkers, and the variant Death Adder from Golden Axe. These figures have been exclusives previously at other shows, and are back as a limited run for the duration of NYCC.

McFarlane has revealed its latest action figure license as the Netflix animated series, The Seven Deadly Sins. So far McFarlane have revealed figures of Meliodas, Escanor, and Ban in what appears to be their usual 7 inch collector figure format, although we will await more details which may be forthcoming as part of the New York Comic-Con presentation and reveals.

The red and white armoured Coruscant Guard, led by Commander Fox, were first seen on screen in Revenge of the Sith, and went on to make a number of animated appearances in the Clone Wars. The troopers would make the jump into The Bad Batch in 2021, now called Clone Shock Troopers, and serving as an elite unit within the fledgling Empire. It is from this latest appearance in The Bad Batch that the new Black Series Clone Shock Trooper is taken. The release is exclusive to Walmart in the US and sold via the Fan Channel elsewhere while remaining a numbered part of the Bad Batch Galaxy Collection, sitting at number 7 in the run with the side art combining with the other numbered releases to create a wider montage. "Originally founded during the Clone Wars as a security police for Coruscant governmental facilities and bodyguards for Republic representatives, the group of clones known as shock troopers now operate as elite forces of the Empire" We have had a Coruscant Guard Clone Trooper previously in the Black Series as part of an Entertainment Earth 4-pack. This time around the Trooper moves to the full new Clone Trooper body with pinless joints as seen on the Kamino Trooper and the 332nd 'Ahsoka' Trooper from 2020. The new body has all the armour pieces cast in white gloss, with the black undersuit parts individual items cast in black removing the need to overpaint and giving a crisper finish. The red markings of the Shock Trooper are added over the top of the armour and painted in such a way that some are scratched and a little rough at the edges to add some realism. The helmet is also the new format and is a hollow piece glued over an unpainted clone trooper head. Thankfully any early issues with warping do seem to have been resolved. The helmet has additional paint deco with a black visor and silver around the breathing apparatus and the vents down each side. There has been some criticism that the black band is missing from the ridge of the helmet and should sit under the dotted red band. This relates to those Clone Troopers seen in Revenge of the Sith and on Clone Wars. When the Troopers appeared on The Bad Batch this ridge detail had been removed so the figure is accurate to the source material. The pauldron piece is new and is cast in soft black plastic with red details. It is glued in place so is not easily removable even if you pop off the head. This, and the exclusivity of the figure, will prevent army building. The Shock Trooper comes with both the DC-15A and DC-15S blasters. These are cast in a hard dark grey plastic and have no additional paint applications. They are both the newer sculpt with crisper details and some minor changes vs the original Clone Trooper weapons. Both new pieces are slightly smaller, with the DC-15S having a more curved barrel and the DC-15A having additional detailing on the final barrel section and the triangular centre section above the sights. Both weapons fit easily into the Clone Trooper hands and with the new arm articulation, there are some great weapon options for posing including two-handed grips and shooting positions. The new Clone Trooper body boasts 19 points of articulation in total with a very good range of motion on the arms even with the downgrade from the double elbow joint to single. The new elbows are no longer restricted by the armour and are enhanced with butterfly shoulders. The head also moves well on a dual jointed neck so it can turn fully, be coked and move back and forth within the chest piece. This gives it, among others, the option to look down the sights of the weapon. While the new body massively improves upper articulation, it does sacrifice leg articulation. The new pinless double joint knees work fine, but the upper hip joints are very restricted by the shape of the leg armour. So while the knees will support kneeling poses, the upper leg can't go far enough out to get the figure into that pose - something the older body could do reasonably well. That aside, the figure stands well enough with no issues with ankle rockers that did present on the older body at times. You can never have enough Clone's in the Black Series and this is another great release that is sadly marred by the fact Hasbro continue to make troop builders exclusive items at an inflated price to the general releases. Had this, and indeed the other Clones released as exclusives to date (and in the future) been single releases with general wide-ranging availability then I for one would have bought extra. Sadly, my army building isn't sustainable when the figures are so limited on availability and upward of 25% more in price than a standard on shelf release. Hasbro has confirmed that the Imperial Remnant Artillery Stormtrooper, as seen in the 2nd Season of The Mandalorian, will be released as a Black Series Amazon Exclusive. The figure will use the new Stormtrooper body complete with yellow markings and a new backpack piece and shoulder pauldron. The figure will also come with the usual E-11 blaster rifle and the larger mortar with four shell accessories. The figure will be a global Amazon exclusive (as far as we know). The Eternals movie, despite being the debut of all its characters, is getting an almost unprecedented level of Marvel Legends releases ahead of its November 2021 launch. As well as a full MCU wave, the Eternals figures will be expanded with two exclusive figures. The warrior Thena, played by Angelina Jolie, is one of the exclusive releases and will be sold via Walmart in the US and is available via the Fan Channel elsewhere in the world. The figure unusually skipped any pre-order period and went straight into stock on the 1st of October. The packaging is identical to the main Eternals wave and features a decadent gold theme on the nameplate, labeling, and side art. The backing card also features a golden glow and graduates up to a blue hue with symbols and designs built into the central section. "A fierce warrior, Thena has the ability to use cosmic energy to form any handheld weapon she can think of" Thena comes with a single head sculpt and this is a fantastic likeness to Angelina Jolie particularly thanks to the photo-real application. She is sporting a headpiece of sorts in gold and the hair section is sculpted so it flows over her shoulders. The hair, like the head sculpt, carries an impressive level of detail and is perhaps missing a wash to enhance the depth of the sculpting. Thena is sporting a full gold suit with an armoured chest section, wrist bracers and shoulder pauldrons. The lighter colour carries a pearlescent finish in the plastic - a theme across all the Eternals figures - with the deep gold armoured parts and belt contrasting this and making a very interesting costume despite the lack of paint detail and without the more intricate designs we see on Ajak for example. The belt and lower skirt section are an individual piece, and left loose to sit around the waist so they can be moved with the lower leg articulation as required. Thena comes with four different weapons and a second pair of gripping hand with which to wield them. These are, we assume, the cosmic energy weapons with all of them having been cast with a gold metallic hue on the blades. Thena can choose from a moon crested staff, katana, curved dagger and a scimitar. The hands are shaped for particular weapons by the looks of things with the thicker staff and grip of the dagger fitting into the wider right hand, while the two swords have slimmer grips for the left hand. That does mean a two-handed staff pose is difficult to pull off with the left hand not being able to hold the grip for any length of time. Articulation is the usual 16 points for a female body with pinless technology used throughout. The joints all work well with the exception of the ankle rockers which seem to be set at a very odd angle and coupled with the fact the left leg appears longer than the right Thena is extremely difficult to stand. There is also a strange decision not to give Thena any knee caps, the knee-high boots sit over the knee in a straight position, but when bent the full joint is exposed. Thena is a striking figure, even by Marvel Legends standard with an Amazonian look overall that rivals that put out by DC for the Wonder Woman movie. She will certainly be a must for the full Eternals lineup, so like Ajak, she is one to potentially prioritise now due to her exclusivity. The Marvel Legends Deluxe release of Vulture and the wingsuit from Spider-Man: Homecoming was announced a number of weeks ago as a Target US exclusive. That listing has now gone live in the US with some new images of the set. We'd expect UK Fan Channel pre-orders to start as early as today (5th October). The set features updated deco on the wingsuit, while Vulture has some tweaks to the sculpt including the helmet as well as a new visor and slip-on controls and levers for the forearms. Playmates are releasing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 2-packs crossed over with the Netflix series, Cobra Kai. The four sets will each feature a Turtle and one of the main cast from Cobra Kai in their Karate outfit. The first two sets to be released are now live on Target's website and feature Donatello & Johnny Lawrence, and Michelangelo & Daniel Larusso. The turtles will feature soft goods outfits and their usual signature weaponry. The Cobra Kai figures are a little stylised, but remain pretty good likenesses to their onscreen counterparts. As part of their 31 Nights of Fright event, NECA has shown off their 2nd Gargoyle figure of Demona ahead of an early 2022 release date. The figure will feature two head options, two weapons, alternative hands, and a book accessory. UK fans should be reminded that the license NECA holds for Gargoyles is for the United States only so there is no general release of the figures over here and you would need to find some way of importing them via a 3rd party seller. To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Marvel Legends line, Hasbro is releasing a number of 20th Anniversary figures inspired by the original 2002 Toybiz Legends. The wave will start with a classic Captain America. He will come with both masked and unmasked head and Cap's shield. There are also a selection of alternative hands and a bunch of effect pieces. The 20th Anniversary figures will all also feature a diorama display, which is WW2 themed for Cap. The 20th Anniversary figures will be Fan Channel Exclusives and will release in Spring 2022. The Mezco Monsters 5Points figures were first revealed in July 2020 as part of the virtual SDCC month. The figures were Mezco's own take on the classic movie monsters and included Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, Wolfman, The Mummy, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. We've waited over a year for more news on this line, and thanks to the Autumn Mezco Con event we now know that the 5 figures will be released in a box set along with a Tower of Terror diorama display. The two images released by Mezco indicate the Tower stands 18-inches tall and features 'multiple display options'. The figures will alo be packed with 'character specific accessories. We await more details but would assume we won't see this set release now until 2022. Mezco announced their Power Rangers licence in early 2021 at their Toyzfair event. The image used at that time was of the Green Ranger. Roll forward to the Autumn Mezco Con online event, and Mezco have confirmed that their Power Rangers line will kick off with a full set of the original 5 rangers from the 1993 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series.
