The 2nd tier for Hasbro's Star Wars Black Series Rancor HasLab project has been revealed should the project reach 13,500 backers. The 2nd Tier bonus will be a set of skulls and bones from the Rancor pit, including your bone used by Luke and the skull he throws to make the door drop. You can display these around your Rancor, or in a provided sand coloured tray There will also be a cardboard printed backdrop that recreates the Rancor Pit. NECA has shared this image of an Ultimate Creep action figure from the original 1982 Creepshow movie. The figure will be a 40th Anniversary release at some point in 2022. We await more details.

Two new McFarlane Spawn figure variants in the Mortal Kombat line have gone up for pre-order. These bloody variants see the existing Mortal Kombat Spawn, and Malekfix Spawn, be updated with blood splash paint jobs. The MKXI 'Bloody' Spawn will come with his Aze, while the 'Bloody Disciple' Malekfix Spawn will feature two necroplasm weapons. Both figures will also feature the circular display base. Hasbro has released the details of their Transformer Studio Series wave 1 figures for 2022. The assortment will be exclusively based on the Bumblebee movie and will include Deluxe Class Ratchet, Brawn, and Wheeljack. There will then be a Voyager Class Soundwave The Studio Series are also getting Core Class releases, starting with Core Class Ravage and Shockwave. Ravage converts to tape mode that will fit into the Voyager Class Soundwave's chest. Pre-order information for these new releases will be provided in December. You like reveals? The latest Bring Home the Bounty reveals at StarWars.com has revealed another two Star Wars Black Series releases for 2022 from Hasbro. Arriving in the Spring of 2022 is Ahsoka Tano from The Mandalorian, as seen in the Season 2 episode, The Jedi. Ahsoka will come with her twin white blade lightsabers, but not the cloak that she wore for a lot of the scenes on Corvus. Also arriving in Spring 2022, is the Death Watch Mandalorian as seen in the flashback scenes from the Season 1 finale, Redemption. The Death Watch trooper comes with two blasters and we assume a jet pack as seen in the story. From the single image released it is not clear if the figure re-uses any parts from other figures but it does not look like it uses the older Jango Fett body we've seen to date on other Mandalorian Troopers. We await final confirmation of how these figures will be released and the full gallery of images from Hasbro. We'd assume these are part of a full-wave (Galaxy Collection Wave 7) alongside the announced figure of The Client. In late Summer 2021, the next batch of Doctor Who sets from Character Options landed in B&M stores as part of their ongoing exclusivity arrangements for new Who products. The Summer 2021 figures included two new History of the Dalek Sets, including the first from the Jon Pertwee 3rd Doctor Era - Day of the Daleks. The packaging follows suit with the 1st and 2nd doctor History of the Dalek sets with the same blue and grey backdrop and TARDIS outline design. The gold foil sticker quoting 'Limited Edition' sits on the bottom left of the window - a window that remains cut a little short and sees the Drone Dalek hidden from view. The back of the box carries the usual extensive text covering both the 1972 story but also the Dalek props used for Day of the Daleks. As always, my thoughts on the extent of the text are that it is too much and gives the full prop of the story whereas a shorter teaser would have encouraged collectors to find out more themselves if they had not seen the story themselves. 'DAY OF THE DALEKS' (1972) Sir Reginald Styles, organiser of a World Peace Conference, narrowly survives an assassination attempt by a combat guerilla who vanishes like a ghost. Later we see the same guerilla attacked by huge creatures called Ogrons and later found unconscious by UNIT troops. The Doctor arrives and deduces that he came from about two hundred years in the future and that a device found with him is a crude time machine Styles is sent away and the Doctor and Jo keep watch on the house but are attacked by more guerillas. The Doctor convinces them that he is not Styles but then Jo is accidentally transported o the 22nd Century. Anxious to find Jo, the guerillas follow her to the future with the Doctor where he learns that the Earth is ruled by the Daleks. It doesn't take long until Jo and the Doctor are taken prisoner, however the guerillas rescue them and explain why they are trying to kill Styes. They believe he caused an explosion at the World Peace Conference, starting a war that led to the Dalek conquest - a history that they wish to change. However, the Doctor surmises tha the explosion was probably caused by one of the guerillas themselves, in a misguides ploy to fulfill the assassination attempt. Returning to the 20th Century with Jo, he has the peace conference evacuated just before the Daleks and Ogrons arrive to ensure the peace attempts fail but are destroyed when the bomb detonates. Behind the Scenes For their first appearance in colour, the Dalek props for this story were given a makeover. Along with new voices, all three popos were updated and repaired in a variety of ways. The neck cages were replaced and a courser mesh was added. The eyestalks were repaired with new eyeballs and disks which now had a simplified 'pupil' design, while the dome lights now used a light found on Land Rover and Mini cars. The shoulders were updated with a coarser mesh than before, and all three props had larger skirt fenders with metal edging and a rubber skirt added to increase the height. Finally, and somewhat bizarrely, given it was their first outing, two of the pops were painted metallic dark grey and the third was painted gold. These Daleks feature some interesting but odd decoration, with the paint applied liberally, even down to the visible gold and grey mesh on the neck. Each also had the gun and pivot ball painted gold and grey respectively, whilst the sucker arms on all three were silver with silver pivots... the gold and grey even extended down onto the tops of the fenders, an effect not obvious as much on the grey drones, as the Gold Supreme. As we've seen with the other History of the Dalek sets, the inner tray is illustrated as a Story-Specific backdrop, designed by the Character Options team. For Day of the Daleks, we have a time portal opening just under the tunnel near Auderly House. The set brings us a new Dalek Drone with a dark grey metallic finish over the existing Classic Dalek body. The colouring is fantastic and this is one of the crispest classic Daleks to date, The Gold Dalek Supreme uses the same body with a bright gold all-over paint job and black roundels and base. Even the slats around the neck are painted in gold, and this varies from the original release of this figure where the inner neck mesh was painted in black. The accuracy of this is a question of lighting as the neck mesh was in fact gold on most set images, but the lighting did make it look much darker. Articulation remains the same as all the Character Classic Daleks, and the same articulation you would find on the full-size Dalek props. The eyestalk works on a pivot and can raise up and down. Both the sucker arm and gun are ball joints so these can rotate within the body of the Dalek. The dome can be rotated a full 360 degrees, and the whole Dalek is set on three wheels at the base, the front of which can rotate, to allow the Dalek to be pushed around. With Characters intent on completing a History set from each Dalek story, these are the only two choices open to the team for Day. The set brings us the first Drone from the story, and the paintwork is sufficiently different from the grey Drones of Genesis and beyond to be something collectors may want to consider army building. It is also a good option for anyone who missed out on the original Day of the Dalek Supreme from 2009. At £19.99 it reflects a good level of value for money considering the current action figure climate and price rises, and the only issues it faces is its distribution, which has been a little spotty, and the limited run of these sets. The 2021 B&M Exclusive Doctor Who figure sets for Summer 2021 was entirely focused on Classic Doctor Who stories and included two sets from the often-overlooked 1st Doctor era (1963-1966). One of these sets was from The Keys of Marinus (1964) and brought us the first companion from the 1st Doctor era, Ian Chesterton, as well as two of the Voord from the Keys of Marinus serial. The set uses the same rectangular box design from previous 3-packs, with the addition now of both a diorama backing card sitting behind the figures and on the back of the box, we are now getting some background information about the story and the characters. "The TARDIS travels to the planet Marinus and arrives on an island of glass surrounded by a sea of acid. The travellers are treated well at first but all is not what it seems. They are attacked by the 'Voord' and it is revealed the Voord are encased in special suits that protect them from the ravages of the acid seas. They survive the attack but are coerced by the elderly Arbitan of Marinus to retrieve four of the five operating keys to an ancient machine called the Conscience of Marinus, of which he is the keeper of the fifth. These keys have been hidden in different locations around the planet to prevent them falling into the hands of the evil Yartek and his Voord warriors, who plan to seize the machine and use its benevolent mind-influencing power for their own sinister purposes." Starting with the Voord, and these are made using the existing slimline body that dates back to Shared Zek and the original Axon figure. Character Options has updated the body with a strap section and holster and webbed feet. The head is also brand new and includes the shaped symbol on the crest - of which you get two, the circle and the triangle. There is virtually no paint on the figure, with the whole body cast in black. Some silver has been added around the belt but that aside it is a single black tone figure. This is, of course, reflective of the story which aired in black & white and the figure is a decent replication of the 1964 costume although the set photos do sometimes show the strap running the opposite way on some of the Voord. Each Voord is supplied with a knife accessory, both identical pieces. We have a black grip and a painted silver blade and the knife is designed to fit in the right hand of the figure or into the sheath provided on the belt. The fit into the right hand is a little tight so takes some work to ease them into the grip position. Each Voord has 18 points of articulation, albeit the more rudimentary hinge joints that Character has used throughout the history of the Who line. This of course ensures the Voord looks and feels like any other figure in the line. The Voord does benefit from the newer shoulders which pivot the arms out as well as up and around. There is also a bonus swivel joint at the ankles where the new feet have been added. Ian Chesterton is another re-use, repurposing the Harold Saxon Master figure from 2007. The John Simms body is a decent enough match to Chesterton and the repainting of the suit and tie does recreate reasonably closely the sort of suit/blazer that Ian wore in a lot of his stories. The issue here with the choice of outfit is that Ian didn't wear a suit during the Keys of Marinus and was wearing a more casual outfit that he had carried forward from the previous story, Marco Polo. I do appreciate that story accuracy would have required a full new figure sculpt and therefore outside the remit of the B&M figures - and to that extent as a representation of Ian Chesterton, I am happy with what we have been given. Particularly the head sculpt which is both a good likeness to actor William Russel while remaining consistent with the style of the other figures released in the long history of the line. Ian has 16 points of articulation, using the basic peg hinge joints that the line is known for. This doesn't provide Ian with a huge amount of movement but he can gesture with his hands, turn his head and adopt some walking or wider stances. At £20 per set, the Keys of Marinus Collector Set from B&M is excellent value for money and while the line is 90% re-use, there is some clever repurposing alongside strategic new parts that is much better than simple repaints. I also think that the focus on the early Doctor era shows an understanding of their collector base - although it will be interesting to see if this and the Sensorites sets do sell through without clearance as most of the other previous sets have done. We got two releases of the Star Wars Black Series Hoth Rebel Trooper in 2020, the first on a 40th Anniversary card as part of the first wave of The Empire Strikes Back anniversary figures and the second in wave 2 of the new Phase 4 Galaxy Collection. The Galaxy Collection release arrives in the new angled packaging with a blue colour scheme used to denote the Empire Strikes Back releases. The Hoth Trooper is 03 in the Empire Strikes Back collection, with the artwork connecting to the previous release of Luke Skywalker in his Snowspeeder gear. The rear of the box has a repeat of the artwork panel along with a short piece of text that reads. "After the battle of Yavin, the Rebels fled from the Imperial Starfleet, seeking a new base of operations. They settled on the frozen Outer Rim world of Hoth" As the Hoth Trooper is unpacked you will find the figure and backpack set into the inner tray along with two blasters and a scarf accessory. There is, however, more to the figure than first meets the eyes as we will see shortly. While not advertised anywhere on the packaging, the Hoth Trooper is one of the most innovative figure releases to date in the Black Series and is made to use multiple face plats on the head rather than swapping out the head directly. If you remove the figure's backpack, then there is a compartment on the rear in which the alternative face is included. You can then pop off the figures headgear and then the face to change from the bearded option to the clean shaved Rebel Soldier. The two head options are generic rather than behind directly based on the on-screen actors. They do use face photo-real face deco which means they do look particularly realistic around the eyes and the shading of the face, eyes and mouth. The Uniform is also generic and as seen on a large number of the Rebel Troopers at Echo Base. This includes a padded jacket and trousers, with wrapped boots and gloves. The headgear includes the scarf that is cast in rubbery plastic as opposed to the soft goods scarf we've seen on the Hoth Luke Skywalker figures. The faceplates are not the only customiseable piece in the set as the figure's overall look can also be adjusted by way of the googles which can be positioned on the head, over the eyes or left off the figure altogether, The goggles include a translucent green lens which is impressive at the scale. There is unfortunately a weakness in the elastic which snaps too easily. The scarf section also provides another option as it can be positioned under the chin, over the mouth or again left off completely. To fit this, you will need to remove the head, and it does take a bit of work to position it correctly over the head and neck area. With the combination of face, goggles and scarf there are 15 possible looks for the Hoth Trooper as we detailed in our review of the 40th Anniversary version. Our Trooper also has two weapon options in the shape of a DH-17 blaster that fits into the right hand and that can be secured in the holster on the Trooper's belt when not in use. You then get the larger the A280 Blaster Rifle which again slots into the right hand and can be cradled with the left hand in a two-handed grip. Articulation on the Trooper is impressive at 19 points of articulation including the addition of the newer format butterfly shoulders as well as the two-part neck joint. This makes our Hoth Trooper pretty flexible in terms of posing options including firing either of his blasters and even being able to raise the larger rifle to his shoulder and looking down the barrel as in a firing pose. There is sufficient movement in the legs for the Trooper to ride the Black Series Tauntaun too if you happen to have that figure and want to give Han Solo a rest. The Hoth Rebel Trooper is almost the perfect army builder and cleverly uses a handful of parts to give collectors plenty of scope for building a larger squad of Rebels without the problem of them all looking too much alike. I would hope this format is continued for future releases and would work well on Endor Troopers or perhaps on some of the Rogue One Rebels. Fans of The Empire Strikes Back will not be disappointed, regardless of which version you purchase. The big MCU movie of 2016 was Captain America Civil War, and Hasbro supported the movie in a big way with a number of Marvel Legends releases. The main wave brought us the key antagonists of Captain America, Black Panther, and this Mk46 Iron-Man - packing them in a wave with other comic book figures and an MCU build-a-figure of Giant-Man. The figure would also be released in a Disney Store 4-Pack, and again in 2017 in that year's European Best of the MCU wave. There was also a 4th release of a damaged Mk46 in a set with Captain America and Spider-Man. The first release arrives in the usual Marvel Legends packaging with a blue hue to the art and character nameplate, and the bold red Civil War logo. There is artwork on the two side panels of the Mk46 armour, and round the back an image of the figure alongside a short piece of background text and sitting above a checklist for the Giant-Man BAF figure. "Iron-Man takes off into battle with indestructible armor and first-in-class combat technology" The MCU Iron-Man figures to this point in the line had been a little undersized, but the Mk46 saw Hasbro bulk up Tony Stark to a broader and taller armoured figure. While the panels are cast in red and gold neither are a full metallic finish, but the glossy finish does work at the 1/12 scale. As well as the gold and red parts we have applied silver panels as seen on screen as well as a painted blue hue Arc Reactor and a similar blue/white finish on the eyes of the helmet. The Mk46 is supplied with two pairs of hands, a clenched fists pair for beating down on Cap, and a pair of outstretched hands that also feature a slot where the repulsor emitter would be. These sockets allow the two blue and white effect pieces to slot into the hands to recreate Iron-Man firing his repulsors either as a weapon - or for flight. The foot-peg sockets also accept the repulsor effects, but you will need a flight stand to create that look - and ideally a second pair of repulsor blast effects. Iron-Man has 18 points of articulation including double joints on both the elbows and the legs. This allows plenty of posing options although the legs are not quite extensive enough to get the Iron-Man landing pose. All the joints are tight and secure, and Iron-Man is easy to pose and display. Even though it is a few years old now, the Mk46 remains one of the stronger Iron-Man sculpts in the Marvel Legends MCU line and is certainly a figure that collectors will want for their Civil War display now we can pretty much line up both sides of the Airport scene (Hawkeye aside). Secondary market prices are creeping up on the Mk46 figure, so one to track down now rather than wait as Hasbro are unlikely to give this a do-over anytime soon.
