McFarlane has shared an image of their 2nd wave of figures from the Disney Mirrorverse. Like the first releases, the figures will come in the larger 7-inch scale collectors size and the smaller 5-inch line, and also two larger 12-inch scale figures. In this new larger scale (more statuette if other McFarlane 12-inch figures are to go by we have Wizard Mickey Mouse and an angry armoured Sulley. The 7-inch line will see Jack Sparrow as a 'Fractured' variant repainted from his wave 1 release. He is joined by a new figure of The Genie from Aladin. In the 5-inch line, we will also have a 'Fractured' variant, this time of Sulley. And two new figures of Baloo from Tail Spin, and Donald Duck These figures will be 2022 releases and the McFarlane social media posts indicated pre-orders will open on these soon. 2021 saw Lucasfilm celebrate its 50th Anniversary, and to celebrate Hasbro released a number of special waves of 6-inch Black Series figures based on various points of the Lucasfilm history and with packaging to match. The Clone Wars wave saw four new/tweaked figures added to the Black Series line with special blister card packaging based on the original 2008 clone wars 3.75-inch white and blue clone trooper helmet style packaging. The cards are appropriately re-sized for the 6-inch line and carry the character name, artwork, and Lucasfilm 50th logo on an insert at the base of the rounded blister. The back of the card is dominated by the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary timeline, with the Clone Wars era highlighted in the brief accompanying text. Unlike most other Black Series figures, the card has apparently no room for any character background text. "Commemorate the first 50 years of Lucasfilm with figures inspired by Star Wars: The Clone Wars!" Echo makes his debut in the Star Wars Black Series, arriving in his ARC Trooper armour and equipment from The Clone Wars. The figure utilises the arms, torso and upper legs of the newer Clone Trooper body while also giving him new lower leg armour consistent with the ARC Trooper armour. Over this, we have a new dual pauldron with an equipment pouch, a new fixed rear backpack (glued in situ) and a kama with dual holsters. Unlike some of the previous Clone characters, the skirt piece is soft plastic and not soft goods. The armour is cast in white with the inner suit in black. Having these as individual parts connected together does away with the issues from the older Clone Trooper body of painting white over black and messy joints around the knees and elbows. As a member of the 501st, Echo also has blue accents to the armour and grey applied to the forearm and lower leg armour. There are plenty of small details including coloured switches on the forearm armour and the handprint on his chest section. The one negative on the sculpt and deco are the feet. They have been taken from the existing Clone Trooper with the inner piece painted in grey. On an ARC Trooper, this should extend and cover the foot more. Left in this state it does make Echo look like is wearing white sandals over grey socks. While all the new Clone Troopers are assembled with a helmet over a Temura Morrison generic clone head, Echo's helmet is not glued in place and is removable to reveal a fully deco Echo head underneath. The helmet features the fin of the ARC troopers as well as a range finder that is articulated and can be moved down over the visor. Like the armour it is cast in white plastic with the blue of the 501st and the gloss black of the visor painted on top. Silver is then used around the breathing vents and grey trim around the back of the helmet. The Echo head is most likely a tweak of an existing Temura Morrison clone trooper head from Revenge of the Sith. The hair is adjusted for the flat-top look as worn by Echo from his debut episode 'Clone Cadets' to his apparent death during the 'Citadel Attack'. Photoreal deco enhances the likeness adding realism to the eyes and shading around the eye sockets, nose and mouth. The helmet fit over the head is snug - so over time you may get some paint rub. As an ARC Trooper Echo is fully equipped with Clone weaponry, starting with a pair of DC-17 blasters in his holsters. These have been included with most Clone Commander figures and are simply cast in black plastic with no paint apps. Once again, as has happened with other characters touting twin pistols, Hasbro has not updated the left hand with a trigger finger. While Echo can hold a DC-17 in either hand, the left grip is not as natural as the right, Echo is then packed with the usual DC-15A and DC-15S blasters. Both are the newer tweaked versions and are both cast in black plastic with crisp, but unpainted detailing across the weaponry. The right-hand grips both weapons well with the trigger finger slotting in place, the left hand then comes across to cup the barrel of either weapon. Echo has 19 points of articulation with the neck jointed both at the top and the base, and the arm movement expanded with the addition of butterfly shoulders. We do get single joints on the elbows and knees but the range is sufficient for firing poses with the blasters, and more dynamic and wider stances. The knee joints will bend enough for kneeling poses, but the hips won't raise the upper legs enough, and there is some interference from the Kama shirt section. All of Echo's joints are tight, secure and move really well with ratchets evident on key joints like the ankle rockers. The 50th Anniversary ARC Trooper Echo is a release that will please collectors of carded figures with its retro nod to the original Clone Wars figures of the early 2000s, as well as out of box collectors who can add the first ARC Trooper to their Clone Wars display. Echo is really well executed - other than the decision over the feet - using existing parts and bringing in new ones which will expand the options for future Clone releases and other ARC Trooper figures. There is a good choice of weapons and the articulation does its job although a bit more range in the hips would be a good future enhancement. In an interesting development, two new Star Wars S.H. Figurarts figures have been put up for pre-order in the US at Target. The figures, taken from the Star Wars Visions series on Disney+, are of the twins Am and Karre as seen in the story, 'The Twins'. While 6-inch scale figures from Visions itself is good news, the significance is one of licensing as the Bandai S.H. Figuarts license has only previously been for the Far East for Star Wars figures. While they can be imported, there was no direct agreement for selling these in the US - and while Bluefin was able to supply selected Marvel figures, their distributor arrangement never included Star Wars. Both figures are exclusive to Target, so they may be the instigator of the new arrangement. We will see how this develops and if these figures will also make their way to Europe and into the UK. Following a teaser image, Super7 official unveiled their Animaniacs Ultimates line this week with the first wave open for pre-order The first wave will feature five figures including Pinky, The Brain, Dot, Wakko, and Yakko. NECA has unveiled the black & white version of their Universal Monsters The Mummy figure. This alternative version will include the same parts as the colour release - arriving in January 2022 - including two heads, alternative hands, mummy wrappings, a scroll, a hieroglyphics tablet, and a chest. The Gaming Greats line of Star Wars Black Series had hung on to the Phase 3 packaging through 2020, but in 2021 the figures moved into the Galaxy Collection packaging with all of the Video Game figures packed into their own collection with an ice blue colour accent. The boxes still carry the foil Gaming Greats hexagonal sticker on the window. The Imperial Rocket Trooper, as seen in EA's Battlefront 2 video game, is the debut figure in the Gaming Greats line with the side art kicking off the connecting montage. This artwork is repeated around the back of the box along with a short piece of background text. "Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is the ultimate Star Wars battle fantasy, letting players call in reinforcements from the most skilled soldiers and units in the galaxy, including the Imperial Rocket Troopers who rain down fire from the sky" While Hasbro has a new and much improved Imperial Stormtrooper figure, the Rocket Trooper does not utilise the new body and instead is a direct repaint of the 2019 Imperial Jump Trooper from Rebels. The Battlefront version loses the yellow paintwork from the helmet and shoulder pauldron while it retains the black Imperial symbols on the shoulders. The body is cast in white bright plastic with the neck, shoulders and hips done in black to match the undersuit. The other joints like elbows and knees are painted over the base white plastic which does lead to some messy edges. The other paint apps on the helmet and the belt and backpack are neater with crisp edges. The Imperial Rocket Trooper is armed with the standard E-11 Stormtrooper blaster, cast in black plastic and with a small silver section painted on the main barrel. The gun is a re-use from previous Imperial troops and slots into the right hand. I would want the left hand to grip and hold the barrel but the fingers are very stiff and curled and getting them around the barrel is hard work. When not in use the E-11 can be slid into the holster on the belt. The backpack can be removed as it is just plugged into a hole in the back of the figure. But it is attached to the helmet by way of the grey hoses. The articulation on the older Stormtrooper body is 18 points in total and hangs onto double jointed knees and elbows. That allows the Rocket Trooper to kneel and assume plenty of firing poses. All of this can be replicated by the new Stormtrooper body, but without the bow-legged look that comes with all the Imperial Troopers that utilise this original 2014 figure. As a 'flying' Trooper the Rocket Trooper is articulated enough or basic flying poses if you utilise an aftermarket flight stand - see our images below. The Gaming Greats line is essentially a tweak/repaint line and therefore the Rocket Trooper makes sense considering the helmet, shoulders and rocket pack were already in circulation. The figure would have benefited from using some or all of the new body from both an articulation and aesthetics perspective. As it stands it's a good inclusion for Imperial Troops but there were options available for it to be better. Some new images of the Star Wars Black Series Bib Fortuna have been included on the Entertainment Earth pre-order for the figure. Fortuna is part of the Galaxy Collection Wave 6 and while he has been revealed, there has been no formal press release and gallery of images. Jabba's Major Domo is the 8th release in the Return of the Jedi collection. He will come with the same three cups/glasses as were included in the Cantina Exclusive set. Hasbro has not included an homage to the staff he has in the original Kenner Vintage line and that was brought to life in the Book of Boba Fett launch scene in the end credits of The Mandalorian Season 2. The other figures in the wave include Fennec Shand, who was officially revealed today, as well as Boba Fett from Tython and the Imperial Tank Trooper disguise Migs Mayfeld, both also officially solicited a few weeks back as was the Jedha Stormtrooper for Rogue One - although images for this are limited so far.. Also included in the wave are the general releases of Pondo Baba and Doctor Evazan from the Hasbro Pulse Cantina Exclusive, and a general release of the Yavin Ceremony Princess Leia. These final three figures have not been officially confirmed, although there are loads of images of them online with the wave having landed in the Far East and starting to land in the US. The Star Wars Black Series figure collection for The Bad Batch kicked off in Spring 2021 with figures of Hunter and Crosshair in their Bad Batch Clone Commando armour. This was before the show aired on Disney+ and before Crosshair would betray The Bad Batch in the early stages of season 1 and side with the Imperials. This release, number 9 in The Bad Batch Galaxy Collection, brings us the Imperial version of Crosshair in his black armour. He comes in the standard Galaxy Collection packaging with the deep umber colour scheme used on all Bad Batch figures. Crosshair follows on in the montage artwork and numbering system from his new boss - Vice Admiral Rampart - and like Rampart, the Clone Shock Trooper and the incoming Rex, Imperial Crosshair is an exclusive release sold via Walmart in the US and via Hasbro Pulse and Fan Channel stockists in the UK. "Formerly a member of Bad Batch, Crosshair's loyalties shift after his team defects from Imperial service. Committed to the Empire, Crosshair leads a new squad of enlisted recruits." The new Imperial Crosshair armour is cast predominantly in dark grey plastic to represent the new Imperial Elite Troopers. Crosshair, as he does in the show, continues to use a variant of the Clone Commando armour and to that end, much of the figure is re-used from the original release. This does pose some accuracy issues as the shoulder armour still carries the embossed Clone Force 99 logo and the siting spike on the left side and both of these should have been updated with the ones used on the Imperial Elite Trooper. We also still have the left forearm with an open socket where the knife holster was fitted on the first Bad Batch figure of Hunter. Oddly while these glaring errors were missed, Hasbro has updated the chest piece to be screen accurate? The armour sculpt does carry plenty of sculpted detail and battle damage, but the only paint apps are added on the belt with a silver clasp at the front and painted silver targeting disks on the back. Like the previous release, a backpack is included that sits snugly and securely in a hole on the back of Crosshair. This is cast in black and has painted red and blue indicators on the control panel. It does not open. Like the first Crosshair, the figure has a removable helmet. The helmet is a brand new piece and is also screen accurate as the helmets of the Clone Troopers begin to evolve into the Stormtrooper helmets of the Imperial Army. The fit over the head is snug and may result in some rub over time. The helmet features an articulated range finder that can be swiveled down over the visor or left raised to the side. The head itself is identical to the first release. It uses photo-real decor to give some shading to the face and to add details like the eyes and the crosshair tattoo. The likeness is has been well translated from the animated show into a real-world setting. Crosshair features two weapons, starting with a small DC17 hand blaster that arrives secured in the holster on Crosshair's left hip. The weapon has been well used in the Black Series with other Clone figures and like all previous releases is cast in black plastic with no painted detail. The left hip holster position is accurate to the show, but the left hand on the figure is not designed to hold the weapon. Crosshair then comes with the same enormous sniper rifle we saw in the first release. It is my personal opinion that this gun is far too big for the figure, and while it is difficult to gauge scale in the show the piece needed reducing slightly to fit better with the figure. It too is cast in black plastic without any paint detailing, and like the DC-17 is meant to be fitted into Crosshair's right hand. The size of the thing, coupled with the articulation, won't allow any sniping poses so Crosshair is restricted to carrying the gun at ease with the left hand supporting the barrel. Like the first release, the gun can be disassembled at the barrel (not covered anywhere on the packaging) and once done so it fits into a slot on the backpack, with the disconnected barrel having a peg socket that allows it to sit to the side of the backpack. It is in this configuration that the piece looks most impressive. Crosshair has 19 points of articulation including the butterfly shoulder joint and the dual jointed neck. The shoulder armour is a flexile rubbery piece attached to the shoulder so the armour moves with the joint and does not restrict it. The knee joints use a similar trick with the knee armour in soft plastic attached only to the upper thigh so it does not impede the knee bending. The joints on Crosshair all do as they should and he has a good range of motion and holds poses well - although the backpack and gun can see him overbalanced if you are not careful. Considering the story arc for Crosshair, an Imperial version of him was inevitable for the Black Series and is more reflective of his appearances through Season 1 of the show. The final figure Hasbro has brought us is an odd contrast of accuracy by way of a new chest piece, and what feels like laziness in leaving the Clone Force 99 shoulder armour in place. I do wonder if concept art may have played a part here? Inaccuracies aside, this is a decent figure with good articulation, a strong head sculpt and a couple of decent - if not one oversized - accessories, as well as a removable helmet and backpack to boot. Its issue will lie in its exclusivity, particularly in the US. And now the exclusives are numbered and sit within the mainline they will be sought after and Hasbro does need to ensure boxed collectors are not left with gaps in their Galaxy Collection series montages. The Bad Batch, the latest Star Wars property on Disney+, has brought us a number of new Black Series figures through 2021 including a number of the new Bad Batch Clones. The latest addition is Tech, who was released in Autumn 2021 as part of the 5th general release wave for the Galaxy Collection. The Bad Batch figures have been a little disjointed in their releases in 2021 with later figures like the Clone Shock Trooper and Admiral Rampart arriving well ahead of the lower numbered figures. Tech is #04 in the Bad Batch series, and he follows on from The Elite Squad Trooper and precedes Wrecker. The artwork on the box shows Tech in his helmet checking out some data on his forearm data screen and the same image is used again on the box reverse with Tech's short background bio. "Tech is the computer and weapons specialist, the most talkative of the group. His genetically advanced brain can puzzle through technical issues at speeds even faster than some droids" Tech features a brand new head sculpt that takes the animated Tech from the show and recreates him in a real-world setting. Of all The Bad Batch released so far, Tech is the best likeness that not only captures Tech's look on screen but also has elements of Temura Morrisons Jango Fett template - something that doesn't quite translate in Crosshair and Hunter. There is however an issue in that Tech does not feature the goggles that he wears for 90% of the time. I appreciate the engineering of having these disconnects from his helmet is not easy at this scale, Tech needs this look and the figure really needs an alternative head with the goggles or a set of goggles that can be worn such as those included with Hoth Leia or the Hoth Rebel Trooper. The body for Tech is all new as far as I can tell and is more aligned to Scout Trooper armour than the bulkier Clone Commando suits worn by the other members of Bad Batch. The armour is cast in a light grey with painted dark grey, red and brown panels. These panels are not crisp and angular, but rather slightly ragged to show how Tech likely pained the armour himself. The undersuit is black - like a standard Clone Trooper - and this is painted over the grey and done so neatly, Tech features a removable helmet that does feature his goggles as the eyepieces. Like the armour it is cast in grey with painted dark grey and red panels. There are skull decals added to the sides and above these, there are two aerials in a dark gunmetal grey. The visor is articulated so it can be lowered over the visors. Tech's backpack is another new piece, being quite different from the packs used by Hunter and Crosshair. It is cast in off white with red painted details and two further aerials. It slots into a shaped socket on Tech's back, and while it does hold in place the fit is not overly tight and it does have a habit of being knocked off a bit too easily. Tech's sole weapon is his DC-17 blaster pistol, a piece that has come with most Clone Trooper characters to date. It is cast in black with no paint details. It fits into Tech's right hand where a trigger finger slots in place. Despite a substantial belt, there is no holster for the weapon. What we do get around the belt are a number of Tech's tools. These do remove from the belt for posing - each cast in silver plastic and the tongs with a painted black handle. We are missing Tech's tablet which we see him use in multiple episodes, and that would have been a nice touch. Tech is really well articulated with the new configuration of 19 points of articulation and inclusive of the dual joint neck and butterfly shoulders. Tech is really expressive with plenty of posing options either wielding his blaster or making some adjustments with tools from his tool belt. Tech is by far the best of The Bad Batch figures to date with a full new sculpt across the head and armour and an impressive paint job. Articulation is also really good and the accessories are a good choice for his character. The only gripe is the googles which were really needed on the unmasked head to finish Tech's look from the show. That aside, this is a must-have purchase for Bad Batch and Clone Trooper fans. The release of the NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 2-pack of Ace Duck and Mutagen Man from the 1980's TMNT cartoon is shipping soon and ahead of its release, NECA has shared some new images of the duo. This week's Bring Home the Bounty reveals included the first official confirmation of the new Black Series Book of Boba Fett figures. There are two new 6-inch figures to look forward to from the Disney+ series. We had seen the Fennec Shand figure from images in the Far East where the wave had arrived early. She will be the first figure in the Book of Boba Fett Galaxy Collection. She will be joined by Boba Fett himself as a Deluxe release. Fennec Shand comes with a removable helmet and her rifle, while Boba features his helmet, jetpack, blaster, and rifle. Boba is specifically subtitled as 'Throne Room' and is the appearance we see in the end credits of The Mandalorian and in the Book of Boba Fett trailers. Using a subtitle for this release does differentiate him from the Mandalorian release of Boba Fett as seen on Tython - but could also indicate other figures in development with an outfit/armour change from the series. Both figures are general releases and have a Spring 2022 release date.
