McFarlane have announced a new 7-inch scale DC Multiverse Batman figure, the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh from the Batman R.I.P. series. The colourful iteration of Batman will feature a spiked baseball bat and a knife, as well as the usual circular base and art card. In the US this is a Target exclusive and 'coming soon', it should have a more general release outside of the United States. The Hasbro G.I. Joe team held a Fan First Friday live stream on the 21st of January, revealing a number of new products for the 6-inch G.I. Joe line in 2022. As we often see with Marvel Legends, the G.I. Joe team will be utilising Digital Renders for reveals, allowing them to show new products earlier and then update these to actual product images closer to release. The G.I. Joe Classified Series will see the addition of Tomax, Xamot, and Stalker. This trio of releases will be part of the next general release wave. Cobra forces will also be swelled by a Cobra Vipers 3-Pack Army Builder set. There will also be a new 6-inch scale retro line with the figures here being packed onto retro cards and using more classic paint jobs. While not completely confirmed, figures were shown of Destro, Gung-Ho, Lady Jaye, and The Baroness. Some of these may turn out to be standard Classified releases. More details and potentially pre-orders were promised at the end of February when the 40th Anniversary for G.I. Joe kicks off. The Retro carded line will most likely be confirmed and shown at this point. Hasbro's Star Wars Black Series line of Replica Helmets has been going strong for a couple of years now, specialising in Trooper helmets and those of the Mandalorians as well as a few Rebel pilots. This release, the Captain Cardinal helmet, is a Galaxy's Edge Exclusive and was sold at Galaxy's Edge parks and via Target in the US. Here in the UK and elsewhere around the globe it was available through the Fan Channel. This helmet was sent to us free of charge by Hasbro for review purposes - and we thank Hasbro and their PR team for the opportunity. The helmet series mimics the base design principles of The Black Series as a whole, with Captain Cardinal released under the Phase 3 packaging. This means it uses a matt black box with glossy black Sar Wars logo and red highlights that perfectly align to the helmet itself which is shown on all sides of the box. Its exclusivity is marked by way of the Galaxy's Edge circular panel on the top right As you work around the box there are a number of differing views of the helmet and alongside them some blueprint style illustrations and some technical detailing as well as background text that reads:- "Realistically detailed, Galaxy's Edge-inspired reproduction of Captain Cardinal's helmet" "Electronically distorts wearer's voice" "Adjustable fit for most head sizes" Out of the box, the helmet feels weighty and well made and is cast in a hard glossy red plastic The inserted eye lenses are gloss black but retain translucency so they are see-through when the helmet is worn, but from the outside, your eyes will not be visible. The lower panel is a rounded collar to help fit the bucket over your head and around your neck. This has to be unclipped to access the battery compartment underneath - batteries are not included in the box. As a higher-end replica, it is good to see there are plenty of details on the helmet we expect on a First Order helmet - even if Cardinal was never seen on screen. The shape and angles of the helmet are sleek, well proportioned, and infilled with black as they run from the visor and down across the bridge of the nose. There are vents down either rounded cheek and a single recessed silver filtration vent on one side. The helmet is designed to be worn and is shaped to fit a full adult head, with plenty of room within. There is no padding as such inside, but there are adjustable straps in a cross design to cushion your head and keep the helmet in place. The eye visors are tinted, so there is a little loss of visibility but you are able to see reasonably clearly while wearing Cardinal's gear. The electronic feature is a voice distorter that is activated via a discreet circular button to the side of the helmet. Once activated the speaker in the helmet picks up your voice and adds a level of distortion and an audible 'click' at the end of each sentence to mimic how we hear Stormtrooper's speak in the Star Wars saga. At circa £100 apiece, these Black Series helmets are not cheap but offer an interesting collection for Star Wars fans either a centrepiece of a character/troop focused setup or a collection of replica helmets. The issue with Cardinal is one of exposure and how well known the character is having not appeared on the screen. Being First Order (Sequel) based will also not help the release when there are other Original Trilogy era helmets to choose from. For your money, you get a well-made replica with a decent sound FX feature and plenty of room for adults to wear and for more casual cosplay if you wish. My Captain Cardinal bucket will be set up on display, and I just need to source a stand of sorts (am told kitchen roll stands work well). "Cardinal is our lens into why a good person would dedicate their life to the First Order—and why they'd seek to excise someone like Phasma by any means necessary once they caught a glimpse of who is behind that mask." The Star Wars Black Series figure of Wrecker was announced and put up for pre-order in the Spring of 2021 as The Bad Batch Season 1 aired on Disney+. He was designated as #05 in The Bad Batch series of the Galaxy Collection and should have followed on directly from the first releases of Hunter, Crosshair, the Elite Squad Trooper, and Tech who was announced at the same time. Due to the global situation in 2021 Wrecker and Tech were both substantially delayed, arriving at the end of December 2021 and therefore beaten to store shelves by other Bad Batch figures like the exclusive Shock Trooper & Admiral Rampart. Wrecker, due to his size, is a Deluxe Black Series release. He arrives in the wider Deluxe packaging which retains the same depth and height as the standard releases allowing him and the side art to line up in a boxed display. The Bad Batch uses a deep red theme which is used on the character name and as a hue within the side art. "The boisterous bruiser of the Bad Batch, Wrecker has brute strength that makes him capable of lifting a clone gunship without any help. His muscle and size are matched only by his temper... and an equally pronounced sense of humor" Out of the box, Wrecker stands at around 6.5 inches tall and therefore not substantially taller than any of the other Bad Batch clones which is accurate. His deluxe status is apparently due to his bulk with a full new body and armor sculpted for the figure. In reality, he would have fit in a standard box, particularly as precedents have been set for bigger figures than Wrecker to be a single release. The Bad Batch armour is executed well on Wrecker, and like Hunter and the others, it is made up of converted Clone Commando Armour panels. Wrecker has an enlarged chest section that goes up to a large collar around his head. The leg and arm armour are expanded and a knife holster is added to the right shin. The body as a whole is cast in the grey base colour, with darker black and red highlights added as well as some scratched detail on the shoulders and chest in silver colour. Further decor is added as decals on either shoulder pauldron with the Clone Force 99 symbol. The head sculpt is also new and is executed as a 'real world' likeness to Wrecker rather than an animated look. This means it has a look of the base clone himself, Temuera Morrison, while also capturing the ethos of Wrecker and the battle scarring around his left eye. Photo Real application is used to give the remaining eye some added realism and shading is also applied around the mouth and nose. It is a pity that the photo tech could not make more of the scarring which is sculpted well but a little lost being painted the same base flesh colour as the rest of the head. Wrecker also usually has a five o'clock shadow, while the figure is executed clean-shaven. Hasbro's Star Wars team have also made a decision to sculpt Wrecker with a smirking expression which may not be to everyone's liking but is characteristic of some of his mannerisms on the show. Like all the Bad Batch characters to date, Wrecker comes with a backpack that connects to the back of the figure via a shaped socket and peg. The backpack is coloured in a similar grey to the armour with added red and blue details. It does not open, nor does it have any connectivity with Wrecker's weaponry to allow it to be stowed away. A removable helmet is also included, produced in softer plastic to fit comfortably over the sculpted head without looking oversized or out of place. It is cast in black with white painted detail in a rough design to mimic the hand painting Wrecker will have done on the show with the skull design of his helmet. Some final red paint is added for the Clone Force 99 numbering on the forehead. I do like the way the helmet has been designed so it can sit just on the top of Wrecker's head, something he does a lot in the show. Wrecker is armed with a combat knife, a longer version of the knife included with Hunter. It is cast in grey plastic with silver added to the blade. The cast of the weapon is crisp with clear serrated edges on one side, and grips on the handle. Wrecker can hold the knife in his right hand, but the left is far too tight and solid to allow the grip to be opened to pose him with the knife in the alternative hand. When not in use it slips comfortably into the sheath on the right leg. We then also get a DC-17m Clone Commando blaster, the same one as included with Hunter. This is the weapon Wrecker uses in the show but does look undersized in his hands. As a rifle, it's designed for two-hand use in the main but what we get is more like a hand blaster. It was too small for Hunter and is more noticeable as being undersized when Wrecker is holding it. The DC-17m is cast in a metallic grey with no further paint apps. The weapon fits into the right hand with a trigger finger that slots into place - as mentioned above, it has no holster options or slung position built into the backpack. Considering this is a Deluxe Release, the figure is arguably missing another couple of accessories to justify the increased price point. One big miss is the lack of any alternative hands. When we look at Wrecker on screen he is often fighting hand to hand and even his iconic look before battle see's him bash his fists together. Including a pair of clenched fists as alternative hands would have been a good call. Wrecker has 19 points of articulation in total and this includes the dual jointed neck for added head articulation without a noticeable joint in the neck section, and the butterfly shoulders. Considering his size, Wrecker poses well enough although the single joint knees won't have Wrecker kneeling, and the elbows do restrict a bit of arm movement - although as we said a two-handed weapon pose would need a larger two-handed weapon. There is some good engineering around the knee armour that hides the joint well, and the flexible shoulder pauldrons will move with the arm - but can become misshapen if the arms extend too far. In summing up I do have to ask myself if I am getting value for money with Wrecker considering we have to pay £10 more for a Deluxe release. Wrecker in reality is not too much bigger in hand than other general figures, and has no better paint job than Hunter or Tech? The included weaponry is good but the blaster is definitely undersized. The release really needed some more 'added value' like a pair of clenched fists so Wrecker can go out and punch people. Wrecker now completes the original foursome of The Bad Batch as seen in their Clone Wars debut and in the first couple of episodes of The Bad Batch. The group does look good lined up together with Wrecker scaled well with the others - fitting well into a Black Series general collection or within a more focused setup from either The Clone Wars or the fledgling Bad Batch series. For as long as I can remember, and since its first appearance in The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, Boba Fett's ship has been called Slave-1 - although this name has never been used in the movies. The Kenner release was called Slave-1 as have all subsequent variations of the toys through Kenner to Hasbro. In 2021 however, Disney appears to be uncomfortable with the name of Boba's ship and instructed lego and other companies to refer to it now as Boba Fett's Starship - although they have not gone as far as renaming the ship on StarWars.com's databanks. And this is the name that Shop Disney has put on their first piece of collectible merchandise fo The Book of Boba Fett, listing the new diecast version of the ship on both the packaging and on the online listings as 'Boba Fett's Starship'. The ship is exclusive to Shop Disney and sold globally with the UK price point sitting at a very reasonable £12. The ship is boxed in black packaging that carries within it some intricate Star Wars artwork with outlines of many other Star Wars ships and characters. The large window shows the full ship strapped to a grey starfield cardback. Once open the ship is strapped into a plastic tray on the cardback itself with clear elasticated ties - which are quite difficult to release and are very tight to the ship so care is needed if you intend to cut these. The ship in hand measures 14cm long (about 5.5 inches) which makes it roughly 1:150 scale. It is cast predominantly in Diecast with plastic utilised on the two stabiliser fins, and on the translucent cockpit. It is the same ship as was originally released in 2014 as part of the Star Wars diecast range - so an easy repurpose and repack for The Book of Boba Fett. The ship has been painted in a base matt grey colour over which has been added the green and red details with a beat-up and worn look executed on the paintwork. This does make the plastic stabilisers look a little too clean as they are left in the base grey plastic. Further detailing is added in gold on the underside of the ship, and around the stabiliser housings. The cockpit opens to show quite a detailed interior. While not painted, the plastic inserted section includes the three main crew seats with a control console of sorts, and under them some passenger seating. The rear guns are also articulated so can be turned. And the same applies to the stabilisers although they do not fully rotate as the upper arms are fixed. This means that when the ship is rotated into a flight position the stabilisers will not rotate fully to match that flight mode. Considering Disney has also failed to give us any kind of stand or display option other than having it in the landing position - it is a shame that collectors will have to find or fashion a display method for flight displays. The one you see below is very rudimentary for photos and see;'s the ship propped precariously on an action figure flight stand. The Shop Disney Diecast release of Boba Fett's Starship is the first or what is likely to be an avalanche of Book of Boba Fett merchandise, possibly even eclipsing what we saw for The Mandalorian. At a £12 price point (plus delivery with no actual Disney Stores left in the UK other than London) it's good value for money and looks good on display - it is just missing a flight stand or something similar to really bring it to life. NECA's 30th Anniversary Predator collection commenced in 2020 with the intention of a set of Ultimate releases of the various Lost Tribe Predators through the year and beyond. There have of course been significant global challenges since 2020 and while some of the 30th Anniversary figures were released in 2020 and into 2021, others like the Lost Tribe Warrior Predator have been delayed further. However, we now have a release date for the Ultimate Lost Tribe Warrior and a new set of promo images released by NECA. The figure will arrive with two head options - one masked, one unmasked - and alternative hands. He is armed with open & closed spears, a flail, throwing disks, wrist blades, shoulder cannon with blast effect, and his large battle axe. There is also the usual trophy, a skull with a spine attached. The Ultimate Lost Tribe Warrior will be packed in 30th Anniversary Ultimate packaging with an opening front flat. NECA's latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle line crosses over the Turtles with the Universal Monsters creating some new hybrid characters in the NECA 7-inch figure format. Joining Raphael as Frankensteins Monster is Leonardo as The Hunchback. Leonardo is redesigned and reimagined as Ygor, the servant of Doctor Frankenstein. The set features a grotesque Leonardo figure complete with an opening shell to stow away his various weapons and accessories. He features four sets of hands as well as his Katana's, two spades, a bone, a skull, a brain in a jar, and two flaming torch effetcs. The McFarlane DC Multiverse Megafig of Titan Joker, from Arkham Asylum, has opened for preorders ahead of a March 2022 release. The 11-inch tall figure will come boxed and will include the usual display stand and art card. An insanely dangerous Super-Villain, The Joker’s white skin, green hair, and blood-red lips belie the chaotic nature underlying his cartoonish appearance. The self-styled Clown Prince of Crime has no superpowers, beyond a capacity for incredible violence and a skill at creating deadly mayhem. He frequently concocts elaborate schemes to entrap his arch nemesis, Batman. One of The Joker's most evil schemes involves his use of the Titan Formula, a potent toxin he secretly funded to be a successor to Bane’s Venom. Once injected with it, the host mutates into a large monstrosity and gains vast strength and durability, which allows The Joker to unleash a horrifying army upon an unsuspecting Gotham City! Always thirsty for power, The Joker even injects himself with the formula and transforms into The Joker Titan... but it all proves futile when Batman thwarts The Clown Prince of Crime’s plans and stops the chaos from spreading any farther. We have just 6 days to wait for Playmates Toys to reveal more details about their new Star Trek line. It was announced back in summer 2021 that Star Trek was returning to Playmates for a new line of figures from across the full scope of the Star Trek Universe. We can expect, based on this graphic, some news and most likely reveals on the 24th of January.

Koska Reeves, as seen in Season 2 of The Mandalorian, was released as a Star Wars Black Series figure in the winter of 2021 as part of the 5th general wave of the Galaxy Collection. This wave had significant distribution issues with figures like Aurra Sing and Lando Calrissian shipping a good couple of months ahead of the Reeves - with Tech and Q9-0 shipping midway between them. Koska Reeves is the 12th release in the Galaxy Collection for The Mandalorian and the box features the burnt umber colour accent on the nameplate and side art. The side art connects directly to the art for Q9-0 before her, and the Artillery Stormtrooper immediately after. The same illustration is repeated on the back of the box to the side of the background text. "A master of hand-to-hand combat, Koska Reeves is loyal to Bo-Katan and is a member of a band of Clan Kryze Mandalorians striking back at the Imperial remnant" Reeves is a direct re-use of the Bo-Katan figure from the previous wave (Wave 4) repainted to the deeper blue armour that we see Reeves wear in the show. This in itself is not an issue as Mandalorian armour is fairly standard, and even the repainted Bo Katan body is a good match to what we see Koska Reeves use on-screen in her Mandalorian appearances. There are some variations to the Bo-Katan figure to ensure the figure aligns with the on-screen costume. These include an updated belt section with only a single holster and some variations in the helmet particularly at the side and rear vents & panels. The bulk of the body is cast in the grey of the undersuit, with the bright blue painted on top. The blue is then weathered in places with added dirt and wear added, and this includes some chipped silver on the chest plate and the helmet. We get further silver additions on the belt buckle, and on the flame thrower on her left wrist. Decals give the finishing touches with the Nite Owls logo on either shoulder, and these are again weathered with some damage and scratches included in the application. The jetpack is an individual piece, packed on its own in the box. It is the same as used for Bo-Katan and attaches via a shaped socket on the rear of the figure. The pack includes some blue panels added on the base grey plastic, in an ideal world it could do with a darker wash and some metallic paint. Like Bo-Katan the helmet is removable and underneath we have an unmasked head of Mercedes Varnado (WWE's Sasha Banks) complete with her crossed headbands. The likeness is adequate without being spectacular and it does suffer from being slightly too waxy looking. The face print tech gives good realism to the eyes and around them, and the lip colour is a match to the episodes. The hair is braided and includes some loose bangs down either side and comes round the back to a short ponytail with a silver fastener. Despite being a slim and slightly softer plastic, the helmet fit over the head is good without being too tight and the helmet retains its shape well when not in use so it can be tucked under Koska's arm. The single holster is accurate to the series, where Koska Reeves wields a single blaster in battle. The Black Series release has however given us two versions of the WESTAR-35 Mandalorian Blaster - the same weapon as first included with Bo Katan. The weapons are cast in grey with some brown added to the grip. Having been translated from the Bo-Katan figure, both hands-on Reeves can wield a blaster with individual trigger fingers on each. When not in use one of the pair can slip into the holster where it sits securely. Purists will certainly put one of these blasters away as a spare and ensure Koska is accurate to her character in the show - while the rest of us will simply pose her looking 'bad ass' with two blasters like her boss. Articulation starts with the helmet and the range finder which is hinged and can be swung down over the visor. The figure then has a total of 19 points of articulation and includes joints at both top and base of the neck for added head articulation without an unsightly hinge, and butterfly joints tucked into the shoulders for a little bit of added arm movement. All of this makes Koska Reeves highly poseable. She can shoot or holster her blasters, with the shoulder pauldron of the armour designed to withdraw under the chest piece rather than restricting arm motions. She can also sit and kneel, and will look good on a flight stand too, making the most of the Jet Pack. After a number of months of wishing for more weathering and real-world effects, Koska Reeves certainly delivers on the paint and decor element with a very good level of weathering and damage to that blue armour. The sculpt may be borrowed, but there are enough variances to Bo-Katan to make the release worthwhile and a good new head sculpt to boot. Hasbro only needed to include one blaster, but they included two - and the only thing I could possibly think to include aside from her weaponry is that cloak she wears early on in her appearance in Season 2 as she observes Mando on his arrival to Trask. Koska Reeves was my last Star Wars Black Series figure of 2021 and a great one to finish on. And probably a figure that may have made my Top 5 had I managed to unpack her earlier.
