Walmart in the US has listed another Gold Label Exclusive in the DC Multiverse 7-inch figure line from McFarlane. The Todd McFarlane designed Wonder Woman for 2022 is a repaint and tweak of the original McFarlane interpretation figure from 2021. The new version is a full repaint and comes with repainted Sword and Shield. It does lose the wound Lasso of Truth from the belt and replaces it with a full version for Wonder Woman to hold. There is no listed release date on the Walmart website. Like most exclusives, it will land in store for collectors to track down. Here in the UK we will likely get an option for a general release on this via the UK distributor Bandai UK. This week's 'Bring Home The Bounty' Star Wars reveal shows a very obvious switch from focusing on the Book of Boba Fett to The Mandalorian. The new Dark Trooper has been a release long-rumored and will arrive in the Spring of 2023 as a Deluxe release. It will feature its blaster, flying 'rocket' effects that plug into its feed as well as alternative hands. While the effects and one of promo shots indicate options for flying poses, there appears to be no stand included so an aftermarket option will be needed It is a general release and is live for pre-order as of 6pm on the 8th of February 2022. Revealed as part of the Bring Home the Bounty Star Wars initiative is this new Vintage Collection figure of Din Djarin in his Morak Imperial Tank Driver disguise. The figure will feature a removable helmet as well as a blaster. It is due for release in Autumn of 2022 and is a general release in the UK and in the US. Walmart in the US has put a new McFarlane DC Multiverse 7-inch action figure of the Joker live on their website. This Joker is taken from Batman: Death of the Family and features the Clown Prince in his purple suit and armed with an axe. It looks to re-use parts from 'The Clown' Joker figure from last year's 3 Jokers series - albeit with a new head sculpt. The usual display base and art card are included. Walmart list this as a Gold Label release, but there are no such details on the box. The figure is confirmed to be a Walmart US Exclusive but should be distributed as normal outside of the US. There is no release date or pre-order option on the listing, but none of the stores appear to have stock yet. Once a small-time crook, The Joker fell into a vat of chemicals that turned his skin white, his hair green, and his lips red—like a crazed clown. His crimes always involve pranks and jokes ending with twisted punchlines that are only funny to The Joker. He may look like he’s clowning around, but this guy is bad news for Batman and Gotham City! After having his face cut off a year earlier, The Joker returns with said face morbidly and haphazardly reattached. Kidnapping the entire Batman Family, he fully intends to destroy Batman by forcing him to see the demise of his adopted family. Recommended for children ages 12+. Star Wars: The Bad Batch premiered in the Spring of 2021 on Disney+ and was soon followed by the first Star Wars Black Series figures in the Galaxy Collection format. After the first four general release figures, Hasbro planned a Deluxe Wrecker and a series of exclusive releases (Walmart in the US and via the Fan Channel in the UK). Clone Captain Rex was planned as part of this group and was numbered #06 in the line to follow on directly from Wrecker. Due to a number of factors, both Wrecker and Rex were significantly delayed and didn't land on UK shores until January 2022. That had left us with a gap in our numbered Bad Batch collection with figures like Admiral Rampart, and Imperial Crosshair arriving first throwing the numbering out for a short time. The Bad Batch series utilised a deep red colour accent on the Galaxy Collection box with artwork that combines with the figures on either side for a wider montage. The artwork repeats on the rear of the box, and to the side of this is a brief summary for Rex - although it remains generic and doesn't add any context to his role in The Bad Batch or on Bracca where they find him in The Bad Batch, Season 1. "Clone Captain Rex served the Republic during the Clone Wars. He viewed military service as an honor, and he always completed his mission" Out of the box we are presented with Rex with his soft goods robe. The body is the same as the 2017 Star Wars Celebration Rex / 2018 Wave 15 Rex. The armour is cast in white plastic the black of the undersuit and the blue of the 501st armour painted over the white. There are a couple of places around the joints where the joint is cast in black and in these instances, the white is painted on top which gives a poor coverage and leaves that looking a bit murky. This is not a huge issue on Rex as his time on Bracca has left his armour heavily weathered with a good level of grime added across the body. Rex retains more detailed paintwork than the average Clone and all his tally marks are in place on his lower legs and on each wrist section. The helmet is an update to the original 2017'/8 figure. It remains unique to Rex in terms of recreating his welded amalgamation of both Phase 1 and Phase 2 Clone Trooper helmets. For some reason, a visor has been added alongside the existing sight finder. This is certainly not consistent with the Bad Batch appearance and an odd choice unless Hasbro were working off early concepts/ The helmet continues with the intricate paintwork with the Jaig eyes design and more tally marks around either side. The helmet is removable revealing the Temurra Morrison head sculpt underneath complete with buzz-cut hair. This is the same head as used for the earlier Rex figures and it is treated with the photo-real technology as seen on the 2018 version to add realism over the head sculpt. The likeness, like all clone trooper heads to date, is excellent and translates Rex from an animated series to a real-world setting very successfully considering we do have a real-world base for how he would look. The helmet does retain the previous issue where the flesh of the head can be seen around the mouthpiece of the helmet where the chin is not quite covered. The soft goods are new for this release of Rex to depict how he was seen on Bracca during his Bad Batch appearance. These are a tailored set of robes that go over Rex's head with two armholes and an elasticated midsection to keep it tight-fitting against the armour underneath. The hood section is a different cut of cloth in a green finish and despite being shown as going over Rex's head in the promo images, it is stitched in a way that this can't actually happen - it just kind of sits up behind the head. This stitching also means that without the helmet to keep the hood in check it follows suit with other hooded soft goods in the line and sits awkwardly behind the head unless you turn it inside out to keep it flat against the body. The soft goods are fully removable for those who are after a more traditional Captain Rex. The body underneath is fully painted and weathered and retains the soft goods Kama. They have however lost the pauldron from his shoulder to allow the cape to fit. That leaves him looking a little odd, and not quite accurate to the episode where Rex clearly had his full 501st blue pauldron on his left shoulder. While I can see why Hasbro trimmed it, a removable version or swap-out part should have been included for those grabbing this Rex as a Clone Wars stand-in as they missed the original releases. Captain Rex comes armed only with his twin DC-17 blaster pistols. These were first sculpted for the 2017 release of Rex and have been included with several Clone characters since. They are cast in black plastic with limited detail and no further paint apps. As Rex uses the older Clone Trooper body the issue remains that the left hand is not equipped with a trigger finger to allow the blaster to be held correctly. And while Rex can hold a pistol in each hand the positioning in the left hand is off and can't be pointed in firing poses as it sits out of line. You would have hoped by now considering how often the Clone bodies are used that a left firing hand would have been an option. When not in use the blasters slip into the holsters on either side of Rex's belt. Hasbro have chosen to revert to the original 2014 Clone Trooper body for Rex, the same as the 2017/8 release. This means the arms and legs are double-jointed at the elbows and knees respectively and there is a broader range of motion - aided further by a slight reduction in the elbow armour we saw come into play with the original Rex to extend arm movement. The downside is the hips are quite tight with the shape of the thigh armour clashing with the midsection. This means Rex can't really kneel or sit. Like the older Clone bodies, Rex does present with a few soft joints with a bit of play in most of them. There does seem to have been a strengthen though two with the old issue with dodgy ankle rockers resolved with a satisfying click of a ratchet as you pose Rex's feet. Considering the context of his appearance it makes sense for Rex to re-use older figures and while the newer Clone Trooper body is cleaner in the armour panels and has improved leg articulation, this older version does look and feel more robust and doesn't suffer from odd floating armour around the knees and elbows when posed. Although I am not opposed to re-releases of figures, I do want a level of screen accuracy and I don't quite get the addition of a visor and the lack of a Pauldron option under the soft goods. The soft goods themselves are OK, although the promised hood is useless, and I can't fault the paint apps with such a good level of detail on Rex's individual markings and tally marks. The weathering - usually an issue I flag on most Black Series releases - is well executed in this instance. Rex's issue is that he is exclusive and like the other Walmart US exclusives for Bad Batch will be tough to find in the US and won't last long via the Fan Channel here in the UK and elsewhere. The Marvel Legends figure of Ikaris was released in the Autumn of 2021 as part of the MCU Eternals wave. The wave was made up entirely of MCU characters from the Eternals movie and it also included a BAF of Gilgamesh, allowing collectors to round out the full complement of Eternals when you combined the full-wave with the exclusive releases of Thena and Ajak. Ikaris was the sole figure in the wave that came without a BAF part, so by that logic was the assumed big seller of the selection He arrives in the standard Legends packaging with a golden theme around the nameplate and via the symbols on the side art. The rear of the box, and the card back, carries on that theme but blends it up to a starscape and with the Eternal circular symbol imprinted within. Alongside the artwork and BAF checklist on the back of the box is a short and non-descript piece on Ikaris. "Moral, kind, and charismatic, Ikaris boasts incredible strength, flight, and the ability to project cosmic energy beams from his eyes." Like all the Eternals figures, Ikaris is dressed in his suit featuring the various comic symbols that also feature heavily throughout the movie. The suit is pretty screen accurate and is cast in blue plastic with gold paint applied over the top. The finish on the gold is bright and the line art and panels where the paint is applied are neat and crisp. A skirt section is added as a separate piece in a softer plastic around Ikaris' waist. The figure's height and body proportions are a good match to what we see on screen and in relation to the other Eternals characters. Ikaris has a head sculpt that looks weak in the promo shot and in the box, but it has grown on me considerably since I unpacked him. It is not a perfect likeness of Richard Madden, with the sculptors having given him a large forehead and a thick brow ridge which is throwing the whole look off. Side on the likeness is much better and once again the photo-real tech enhances the face sculpt with improved realism around the eyes and the shadows and lines of the facial features. Ikaris has a secondary head option included in the box. This is his powered look, with the standard head tweaked with the addition of translucent yellow powered effects around the two eyes. This has again grown on me with the figure in hand and is a different take on the 'eye beam' effect than the usual beams of light. The heads swap out well enough and the ball joint on the neck is a wider joint so is not at risk of any damage - an issue we've seen on some other figures released in 2021. The Eternals as a group do not use weapons or accessories other than Thena, so like the rest of the wave, there are no added accessories for Ikaris. We do get a second pair of hands allowing you to exchange the clenched fists for a pair of open palm hands if you wish to adjust the look of Ikaris or pose him with a specific gesture. Ikaris has 18 points of articulation, picking up the usual double joint knees and arms of most male Legends figures. He does not get butterfly shoulders, and the torso joint is a ball joint and not the ab-crunch and rotating waist. The neck too is only a single ball joint. While he is not rocking the full suite of Legends articulation, Ikaris remains extremely poseable to the extent he can even be posed in flight with the addition of an aftermarket flight stand. All of Ikaris' joints are secure and there are no stability issues. Ikaris is well executed in the 6-inch Legends format with an accurate recreation of the onscreen costume and a good - if not perfect - likeness to actor Richard Madden both in stature and facial head sculpt & paint job. The articulation is sufficient and the addition of a second head sculpt is welcome with most of the other Eternals releases featuring spare hands only. Ikaris and the Eternals figures have suffered with the mixed reception of the movie itself and the overall design but there is a lot to be happy with for Ikaris the Legends figure and a welcome lineup with the rest of the Eternals for an MCU collection. As announced earlier in the week, Super7 have now revealed their newest addition to the Ultimates 7-inch figure format with their new Bruce Lee collection. We can look forward to two Bruce Lee releases that are due to land in December 2022. The Challenger features Bruce in his iconic yellow suit as seen in his final movie, the Game of Death (1978). The next release from Mezco in their 5 Point XL Godzilla Series is Godzilla vs Hedorah Box Set. Taken from the 1971 Godzilla vs Hedorah movie, the set features an articulated Godzilla and two versions of Hedorah - the first his flying form, the second an articulated final form. The Mandalorian is Star Wars at the moment, what with the absence of any new films. That means that Star Wars license holders are focusing much of the new product on Mando and of course Grogu. For Hasbro, that means ensuring that The Mandalorian himself is well represented in the line at all times. Considering Mando has only really sported his original beat up armour, and then his Beskar armour, Hasbro have been using the base figure to create more situational packs based on specific scenes or episodes - which brings us to the current Deluxe release of The Mandalorian and Grogu from Arvala-7, and particularly the Season 1 episode when they faced the Mudhorn. The Deluxe release is a Target US Exclusive and sold via Fan Channel retailers outside of the US. It features a variant of the original Mandalorian figure along with a tweaked Grogu figure and the original hover-pram from the first half of Season 1. The Arvala-7 release is number 14 in the Galaxy Collection for The Mandalorian. The box uses the same burnt umber colour tones on the border and artwork, and the box itself is widened for the Deluxe format. The artwork shows Mando holding the Mudhorn Egg with Grogu in front, the Mudhorn itself can be seen in the background. While this set is very much based on a specific scene/planet/episode, the rear character text remains generic. "The Mandalorian is battle-worn and tight-lipped, a formidable bounty hunter in an increasingly dangerous galaxy who finds a mysterious alien pursued by bounty hunters on behalf of Imperial interests." Mando takes the original 2019 release with the older beat-up armour and gives it an Arvala-7 makeover. Essentially, this means a new chest piece showing the damage caused by the Mudhorn and an all-over mud-covered paint job. There is a further detail update on the figure in that the right pauldron is updated from the original Shoretrooper piece to the Beskar cast pauldron from episode 1. The original figure did not have this - it has been translated across from the Beskar Mandalorian release. This mud effect is well treated in parts with a thick covering on the boots that then fades further up the body. The grey of the undersuit is still visible under the armour, and a number of the armour panels do show their original colour. The helmet gets a full mud covering and is almost completely brown with fine splash marks on the visor. As the Arvala-7 Mando uses the existing figure it does have the same aesthetic issues with a slightly small head, hunched shoulders and a cast cape that does not always sit where you want it to when posing. Like all the Mando releases to date, he is armed with both the Westar-34 blaster and the Amban Phase-Pulse blaster rifle. Both weapons are cast in a base metallic colour with paint applications over the top for the grip/stock. The Westar fits into the right hand of Mando where a trigger finger just about slots into the small trigger hole. When not in use it goes in the holster at Mando's side. This feels more robust than the original releases with a tighter and easier to close strap over the top. The Amban rifle is a little harder to hold and needs a two-handed pose for firing purposes. Once you've angled the right hand around the stock and up against the trigger it looks great and is supported by enough articulation for sniper firing poses. When not in use the weapon is designed with a plug that slots it into a hole in the rear of the figure. Again, flaws are carried over here with the hole meant to line up with a second hole in the over the shoulder strap. There may have been a slight tweak to the plug which does sit more securely in the hole - and I found it easiest to bypass the strap section entirely. Also included in the set is the Mudhorn egg, a new accessory to the line. It is well sculpted to capture the bedraggled hair around the egg. It is also designed to open with a pop-off lid that exposes the yellow yolk within. While the yolk is painted or a coloured insert, the rest of the egg is left the base plastic colour and looks out of place with Mando - it is crying out for a simple dark wash to dirty it up somewhat. The included Grogu is somewhere between a figure and an accessory. He stands about an inch tall and has a fixed body with the arms sculpted as part of the torso and not articulated. On this release, the left arm is outstretched in a 'force' pose - the same body as was used on the Din Djarin Deluxe release from 2020. The body is cast in a sandy brown base plastic with a lighter tone painted onto the collar and cuffs. The hands and head are cast in green plastic and plugged into the body which gives rudimentary articulation in terms of being able to rotate each of them partially. The head is meant to show Grogu with his eyes closed as seen when trying to use the force on the Mudhorn. Rather than sculpt a new expression the solution from Hasbro is to use the existing head but not paint the eyes. What you therefore get is a Grogu head that looks unpainted. It might have worked had they shaded around the eyes to represent eye-lids, but what you do get looks sloppy. We do get paint apps on the inner ears and on the top of the head as wispy white hair strands. The hover-pram is the one seen for most of Season 1 and is a welcome addition to the line considering the other one released to date is the one Kuiil fabricated at the end of the season. It is made of white hard plastic with painted internal features in black, brown, and silver. The outer shell includes paint apps to simulate weathering and damage. We sadly have corner-cutting here too with the pram designed to fit a hexagonal-shaped flight stand, but then packed it with the flight stand from the earlier release which has a round profile. The two do just about go together but the fit is poor and insecure. We also miss out on a cover for the pram. While a working closing cover is possible Hasbro haven't taken that route, nor have they included a clip-on/off cover as we got with the other release. Grogu sits into the hover-pram well enough and the proportions of both ensure he is still visible when stood in the centre of the pram. Mando features 19 points of articulation and includes butterfly shoulders, double-joint knees, and the dual joint neck alongside the usual single joint elbows, wrist pivots, thigh swivels, ball joint waist and ankle rockers. The ankle rockers take a bit of time to work into a flat-footed pose and you may need to turn out the feet via the thigh swivel to get Mando to stand securely. Once that is done there are a wide range of posing options either with or without the weapons. The arms bend sufficiently enough for sniper posing with the Amban Rifle as well as gunslinger poses with the blaster. The legs can kneel thanks to the dual articulation at the knees, or simply take up wider action poses ready for battle. Not everyone is a fan of situational releases, depicting a character from a scene or episode, and to that end, this muddy Mando will not be everyone's cup of tea. Hasbro have done a good job on Mando considering he could have been a straight-up 'mud brown' repaint. They have gone to the lengths of adding a new battle damage chest and updating the shoulder pauldron so it is episode accurate. Articulation is good and the weaponry included are fine and interact well with the figure. The set is a tale of two halves, with the Grogu aspects of the set disappointing. Simply not painting Grogu's eyes doesn't make him look like he is concentrating using the force, it just looks like an unpainted head. The pram too has an ill-fitting stand and lacks a cover for both open & closed options. And the Mudhorn egg, while well sculpted, is crying out for a layer of paint. This isn't the last Mando pack in the Black Series with the Ice Spider version due this year, and most likely more to follow with options to do releases with the Beskar Spear and/or Dark Saber. This is fine as our main character should be well represented, but where there is a re-release we need Hasbro to maintain the character accuracy and give us value for money in accessories and execution of the set overall. I am not disappointed in the Arvala-7 set, it makes a great display piece, I just feel it had the potential to be more.
