A number of images have been released in the Far East giving us a look at the first figures from the upcoming MCU movie Thor: Love and Thunder. It seems S.H. Figuarts have beaten Marvel Legends to the punch on this one, with a reveal of both Thor and Lady Thor in their 1/12 series. Thor will come with Stormbreaker and a blue lightning effect, while Jane Foster Thor has a reconstructed Mjolnir and yellow energy effects. Both come with soft goods cloaks. The figures are sold separately and are down for release in June 2022, just ahead of the July 8th premiere for the movie. McFarlane have started to share the details of their 3rd wave of DC Retro Batman 1966 figures. The wave will include another Batman variant, and a variant of the Wave 2 Riddler figure, both are wearing their boxing shorts and gloves. There are two more figures in the wave that are not yet revealed, although teased in the image to either side. One looks like Catwoman and the other, Penguin. The full wave should be revealed fully soon and open for pre-order for what we expect to be a Spring/Summer release date. The Marvel Legends figure of Phastos was released in the Autumn of 2021 as part of the MCU Eternals wave. The wave was made up entirely of MCU characters from the Eternals movie and it also included a BAF of Gilgamesh, allowing collectors to round out the full complement of Eternals when you combined the full-wave with the exclusive releases of Thena and Ajak. Phastos was packed along with the leg of Gilgamesh. He arrives in the standard Legends packaging with a golden theme around the nameplate and via the symbols on the side art. The rear of the box, and the card back, carries on that theme but blends it up to a starscape and with the Eternal circular symbol imprinted within. Alongside the artwork and BAF checklist on the back of the box is a short and concise background for Phastos and his role in the Eternals. "Over the centuries Phastos has helped nudge humanity forward technologically while always keeping his brilliance hidden in the shadows" When sculpting Phastos, the Hasbro team have avoided the use of a specific facial expression as we saw on others in the wave such as Kingo and Sprite. This does make Phastos one of the better-looking figures of the line, but still not a perfect likeness for actor Brian Tyree Henry. The head lacks the shape for Phastos, it needs to be more rounded and the hairline set further back, and some better shaping around the beard. While the photo-real deco adds a level of realism, the overall paint applications for the head has issues, namely where it fails to cover the very edges of the hairline and beard, leaving them in the original skin tone. The costume is replicated from the movie costume with the chest section carrying the celestial iconography we see throughout the movie. The main elements of the costume are cast in a base purple with silver and gold added over the top. The lower torso and skirt are a rubber addition that flares out to the side. This leaves Phastos looking like he has no waist while the actual costume is more tailored and stops at the knees, whereas the figure sees the robes come down past the knees. As has been consistent through the entirety of the Eternals line, Phastos is packed only with an alternative pair of hands allowing you to change from a pair of open gesturing hands to a pair of clenched fists. The fists themselves don't make too much sense as Phastos operates more as a Thinker and not a Fighter - but combining the two does work for varying gestures. Articulation is 18 points in total and all executed as pinless joints. The skirt does hold back some of the leg posing and Phastos also suffers from quite loose legs that do try to slide out to the side. The arms have a fuller range of motion and can be moved and positioned as though Phastos is using his celestial power of design and construction - it is therefore perhaps a missed opportunity not to have a Doctor Strange style effect to sit on one of the hands so Phastos can be displayed in this exact situation. Phastos is a further mediocre figure in the wider Eternals wave. While he isn't captured with an exaggerated facial expression, the overall likeness is not the best and the face paint is sloppy in places. The costume needs to look more tailored around the waist and be cut at the knee and not beyond it. Phastos is also the first figure I've had joint issues with from the wave with very loose hips that do not help in getting him standing. Like the other figures, the beauty of Phastos is his role in a wider group collection rather than an individual figure and I am getting close now to having all the Eternals lined up on display which feels to be the goal of the wave which is suffering like many first waves of MCU projects with some disappointing visuals. Star Wars Black Series collectors can look forward to a new Cad Bane figure later this year. Announced via IO9, the new version of Bane is taken from his appearance on Bracca in The Bad Batch. It sees the existing Clone Wars figure get an extensive makeover as he loses the coat and gains shoulder & chest armour, new boots, new thrusters, and an updated (and slightly smaller) hat. The head is also updated to a narrow-eyed glare. He retains his twin blasters from the first release. The figure is a Winter 2022 release, arriving in mid-December, and is exclusive to Amazon. The Doctor Who set from Robot (1974), Tom Baker's debut story as The Doctor, was revealed just ahead of the New Year and landed in B&M stores as an Exclusive in February 2022. The set repacked the original Robot figure from 2008 alongside a 4th Doctor figure. The set is packed in the standard Doctor Who packaging with a deep blue header and footer and grey, TARDIS artwork around the rest of the box. The new Who logo is used, but in a silver/grey tone to line up with the rest of the design. The contents are not confirmed until we reach the side panel which has a roundel confirming the figure as the Fourth Doctor and the K1 Robot. We then get a whole wealth of information on the rear of the box that goes into full details of the story - perhaps too much, covering the whole plot of the 1974 story. Unlike the TARDIS and Dalek packs, there is no insight behind the scenes on either the props or the story itself. Once open you are presented with the Robot and the Doctor strapped into the usual plastic tray. Behind them is a cardboard tray which acts as the background for the set and includes some artwork based on some of the interior scenery from Robot with a wall with exposed brickwork, a 'Keep Out' sign, and some nondescript details to one side which could be windows or a notice board. The Kettlewell Robot (K1) re-uses the original 2008 figure which itself was a build-a-figure spread across the first wave of Doctor Who Classic figures from Character. It stands 7.5 inches tall and is cast predominantly in silver. The body shape and proportions vs the normal sized on-screen prop are good and in scale with the standard 5-inch Who figures. Paint decor is limited but applied with some black added to the corrugated joints of the legs, and then applied more directly to some controls across the chest and back. The head also includes a black painted mouth and a further panel under the chin. The dome of the head is cast in a translucent purple and the same shade of purple is then painted as trim to either side of the chest as they transition into the shoulders. A translucent pipework piece is added to the front of the Robot with a similar setup at the back with two more clear pipes that feed into a wider clear vessel. In comparison to the original 2008 release, the main differences are the colours of the dome and shoulder trim which was red on the original and is now a purple tone on the 2022 release. This purple is probably more accurate to the episode, although illustrations on the DVD cover and some comic artwork do use the deeper red. The new 2022 version is also identifiable by the Copywrite and UKCA marks placed on its bottom. The original had no such markings. The Robot comes with the Disintegrator gun, another direct carry-over from the original release. It is cast in silver with gold trim and fits in either of the Robot's clawed hands. The fit is quite loose so the Robot will not be pointing the gun at anyone, rather holding it pointing down. The original K1 Robot from Character suffered with very unstable legs. The new version seems to fix that, but it arrives with a very loose waist section which causes him to flop over. In most of our images, I had to stabilise the mid-section with some Blutac to keep him upright. This may be a variable issue on different sets. The arms too are quite loose and cant hold themselves upright so will always flop to the side. The K1 has 13 points of articulation, and that includes the footplate which pivots upward if the Robot is walking so as to keep the feet flat to the floor. The 4th Doctor figure is a combination of the original 2008 Tom Baker figure, itself based on his first appearance in Robot, and unsmiling hatted head from the Seeds of Doom Doctor (2012). The Doctor is wearing his burgundy short coat, waistcoat, and tie with a pair of grey trousers. The decor on these are much improved on the original release with a pattern now on the tie and some more intricate pattern to the waistcoat. The coat is a brighter red, and there are some variations also on the scarf. Like the original, the head should pop off so the Scarf can be removed - but this figure is notorious for the neck peg disappearing into the body so I have not attempted to make this change on our figure. Articulation is standard for the Who line with 16 points overall. The joints are dated with visible pegs at the knees and elbows and remain unsightly at the bicep and thigh swivel once engaged as the sculpt all moves out of line. The Doctor can gesticulate using the arm joints, although he has no sonic screwdriver to wave about - even if the right-hand remains posed for one. The legs will allow some wider stances but with no ankle rocker or peg option for the foot anything more dynamic is difficult. The Doctor and K1 Robot retails at £19.99 in B&M stores and will be a limited release, so once gone it's gone. The set offers great value for money, particularly in the current climate. The figures are both re-releases of older figures, and that means they look contemporary with the Who range as a whole and also allow new collectors who missed the original K1 in particular the opportunity to add these to their collection - while seasoned collectors are nodded to with the change of paint scheme on both figures. The set also opens up a new direction for the Who figures from Character and the B&M range, with a new avenue to move into for 2022 with the Doctor & Monster packs replacing the TARDIS sets which will be running out of options. Diamond have revealed via IGN that a new Diamond Select action figure of Nathan Drake from the new Tom Holland Uncharted movie will go up for pre-order from the 18th of February, coinciding with the US cinema release for the movie. The 7-inch scale figure is Nate as we see him in the movie complete with a gun vest and what looks to be at least one holstered pistol. The set also includes the two crucifix keys as well as the Magellan Journey Captain's Journal. Today's Star Wars Bring Home the Bounty, Bonus Bounty, Reveal came via CNET who revealed a new Black Series 6-inch scale figure of Black Krrsantan. The Wookiee will be released in the Publishing format and is based specifically on his comic book appearance in the Doctor Aphra Series (2015) and not his recent live-action debut in The Book of Boba Fett. Krrsantan uses the existing Chewbacca body - which is perhaps too slim - and features a tweaked head sculpt with a scar across the head and braids under the chin. He is armoured with a gold chest piece that includes the spiked shoulder armour, this looks OK but seems to be missing a wash to really bring out the sculpted detail. Kystantan is armed with the same Bowcaster as packed with Chewbacca. The Publishing Format sees the packaging presented in a closed box with an opening front flap and artwork taken from the published source. The figure is a Fan Channel Exclusive, so sold via Hasbro Pulse and specialist retailers. He opens for pre-order as of 6pm on the 15th of February and has a Spring 2023 release date. Hasbro have sent over details of three new Vintage Collection 3.75 inch figures as part of this week's Bring Home the Bounty reveals. The trio are all taken from Season 2 of The Mandalorian and is made up of Koska Reeves, Axe Woves, and Mids Mayfeld in his Imperial Disguise from Morak. Super7 have released the details for the 2nd Series of Ultimates 7-inch figures from The Worst As with wave 1, we have two figures for wave 2 starting with Black Falcon who will come with three skeletal head options, and alternative hands. He is armed with a sword, spear, and shield. Other accessories include a soft goods cloak, medallion, flask, and lunch bag. The other figure is Robot Reaper who features a fully articulated Robot Skeleton Body and a Grim Reaper soft goods cloak to put over the top. He also comes with three head options, multiple hands, including one hand that features a Scythe blade. A full Scythe is also included, as is a Gameboy, floppy disk, and loading timer. The Worst figures for Series 2 are open for pre-orders until the 14th of March 2022. They will then go to production and have a Winter 2022 release date. The second wave of Princess Bride figures have been revealed by McFarlane Toys. The wave includes four standard releases and another Megafig release of Fezzik. The wave follows the usual McFarlane approach with most of the wave being tweaks or repaints of previously released figures. Inigo Montoya has a tweaked angrier head sculpt and is repainted as a 'bloodied' variant. The Westley / Dread Pirate Roberts gets a 'bloodied' paint job across his shoulder as well as a head update so he is now unmasked. Princess Buttercup is updated and now presented in her blue wedding dress, she has a tiara added to the head sculpt as well as a new torso piece and lower soft goods. The Fezzik Megafig also looks like it has a new tweaked head sculpt and he gains a soft good cloak (and loses his peanut and rock accessories). The only 'new' addition is Vizzini, who comes with two goblets. All five figures are now live for pre-order and have a May 2022 release date. "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya; you killed my father; prepare to die." This phrase that Inigo practices repeatedly for his ultimate encounter with Count Rugen completely sums up his motivation throughout the story. We learn in a flashback to his childhood that he had adored his father, a great swordmaker, who had created as his magnum opus a glittering sword for the six- fingered count. The Count returned, was displeased with the product and refused to pay the price he had originally offered, and then in a fit of anger he killed Inigo's father, shattering young Inigo's life. Inigo spends the rest of his childhood and young adulthood mastering the sword, and ultimately becomes a wizard, the highest ranked swordsman in the world. Having achieved this and still not found the Count, he lapsed into depression and alcoholism, and came out of it only when Vizzini recruited him to assist in his criminal organization.
