McFarlane's Toy Fair 2022 Showcase started on Friday the 25th of February with the reveal of a new wave of Spawn action figures. Joining the 7-inch spawn line in Summer 2022 are three standard figures, starting with Ninja Spawn who is armed with two sets of twin blades. We then have Haunt who will feature alternative hands and spectral effect pieces. And there is a new 'Version 2' for Raven Spawn who will come with his enormous Axe and his scythe. In the larger Deluxe format there is a new Spawn release, which looks to use a lot of the original Mortal Kombat Spawn figure, packed with a removable cloak and his throne. And finishing off the set in the Megafig line is Overtkill. All the figures come boxed and include a circular display base. Pre-orders are already going live with the release date stated as July 2022 Who hides behind the blood-red mask of this wraith-like assassin? Could it be Al Simmons? The third wave of Super7's Disney Ultimates will feature new 7-inch scale figures of Ben Ali Gator from Fantasia, the Big Bad Wolf from Silly Symphony, the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, and Stitch from Lilo and Stitch. As well as revealing eight new figures during the Fan First Live Stream on the 24th of February 2022, Hasbro also sent out the full details of their next releases for G.I. Joe. These include the release of Xamot and Tomax in the next Classified Series wave - although it does appear they have got the twins mixed up in the packaging as it is Xamot who has the scar (the promo images are correct). They will be joined by Stalker and there is also a three-pack of Cobra Vipers - one Officer and two Troopers. As seen with other Hasbro lines, there is an extended-release date on these of Spring 2023 but that may come forward. In the 3.75 inch retro 'O-Ring' line we can also bolster our Cobra Troopers with a new two-pack of a Cobra Trooper and a Cobra Officer. These will be released in Autumn 2022. And the final Hasbro product in the press pack, and as revealed on the live stream, is another of the Transformers X crossover pieces. This set takes Megatron and converts him into a Cobra HISS tank, complete with scaled Retro O-Ring Baroness figure. Megatron is scaled in size with the 3.75 figures and the Baroness can sit in the HISS cockpit or in a gunner's position behind Megatron's head. For carded collectors, The Baroness is included on a Retro Card. The card back for the set shown during the event indicates an Optimus Prime G.I. Joe cross-over is also in the works. Storm Collectibles have been unveiling a number of new 6-inch action figures over the past week or so across their various licenses. From Gears of War, we have two new prototype images of Dominic "Dom" Santiago and Myrrah. The Video Game Beat-em-ups are well represented in the reveals. Coming from Guilty Gear: Strive is Sol Badguy, and from Tekken 7 is Paul Pheonix. Mortal Kombat's new addition will be Liu Kang. We have new figures incoming for Getsu Fuma Den: Undying Moon. And another new license will be the arrival of Baki the Grappler. Interestingly the final reveal, Bad Brother from Golden Axe, was posted then taken down from the Storm Collectibles social media. The February 24th G.I. Joe 'Fan First' live stream has outlined a number of new 6-inch scale Classified G.I. Joe figures heading our way later this year. The G.I. Joe team will be bolstered by the arrival of Dusty and Kamakura, as well as Tiger Force versions of Recondo and Bazooka. The latter two are likely to be Target US Exclusives. Mezco's Exclusive One:12 Collective 2-Pack of Batman vs Two-Face has opened for pre-order. Batman features the usual tailored outfit and a soft goods cape with an internal wire armature for posing. He comes with a number of hand options, batarangs, bat radio belt buckle, and a rebreather. Two-Face comes in his suit from his first appearance in Detective Comics. There are two disfigured head options and a third Harvey Dent head from before his disfigurement. You get a number of switchblades, two side coin with flipping effect piece, and a case containing dynamite and a timer. The World’s Greatest Detective is after criminal mastermind and fallen District Attorney, Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face. The odds are two to one but in whose favor? Medicom have released details of two new MAFEX Marvel 1/12 scale figures. Up first is the Iron-Man Mk50 suit, complete with a raft of nano-weaponry and defenses as seen in Avengers: Infinity War and his battle with Thanos. And from X-Men is a new figure of Storm in her white X-Men uniform. She features a soft-goods cape, three head options, and a set of lightning effects. Both figures are now live for pre-order at MAFEX stockists and have a December 2022 release date. The new Predator Concrete Jungle Stone Heart Predator has gone up for pre-order with a September 2022 release date. The 11-inch tall cyborg Predator figure will feature light-up LED features in the head, chest, and back. You also get alternative mandibles to create a different head look. The Marvel Legends wave for Eternals, released in the Autumn of 2021, was unusually a full wave of Marvel Cinematic Universe figures. It was a vehicle for Hasbro to give us all ten members of the Eternals, working alongside the two exclusives of Ajak and Thena. Out of the Seven main figures of the wave, six of them would also include parts for an eighth and final figure of Gilgamesh. Only Ikaris was devoid of Gilgamesh parts, the usual way popular characters who are double packed in a case are treated. Gilgamesh arrives in six key parts, with two further alternative hands included with each arm section. The construction is simple enough with the joints clipping into each other around the central main torso. The legs are the hardest due to the size of the thigh joint and may need a bit of heat from some hot water to ease them into position. "The strongest and kindest Eternal, Gilgamesh becomes Thena's de-factor partner when the events of the past exile them from the other Eternals." Gilgamesh has a decent enough likeness to actor Don Lee, applying the face print tech to capture his eyes, the shading of his features, and the facial hair. The skin tone is a good match to Gilgamesh on screen and the hair is also sculpted with a degree of accuracy to the onscreen appearance although it perhaps lacks a little bit of volume. The body is cast in a bronze plastic with green panels and follows the same pattern as the movie costume with the chest design of the circular celestial icons down to the panels around the skirt and into the arms and legs. The lower torso and skirt piece is one, added as a wrap around the body itself. Unlike Phastos, who lost definition with this addition, Gilgamesh retains the overall body shape and definition of the waist then allows the skirt section to hang naturally around the top of his legs front and back. The green metallic paint is neatly applied but there is less definition on Gilgamesh vs the other Eternals with none of the lines of the suit picked out or even washed to add definition and battle-worn grime that we see on Gilgamesh. There is also a colour match issue between the upper hips and the thighs and legs with two slightly different tones in play which does show up more when the figure is fully lit. Gilgamesh comes with two pairs of hands. The first are the gripping hands that come attached to the arms, these can be swapped out for a pair of clenched fists which will be most people's choice for posing Gilgamesh considering his role as the powerful warrior among the Eternals. As a BAF we are lucky to have these alternative parts, although if I was being greedy some cosmic power effects for the fists would also have been pretty cool. While he is a build-a-figure, Gilgamesh retains the full set of 18 points of articulation and these are all executed in a pinless body to maintain the overall look of the figure. Everything works as it should and the arms are wide-ranging enough for some dynamic posing ready for battling the Deviants. BAF's can suffer from loose joints considering the joints are designed to be assembled and may not be as tight as usual, but Gilgamesh shows no signs of this and he holds all poses well and stands steadfast. Gilgamesh is arguably a little small for a Build-a-Figure, but certainly not the first standard figure to be included in this format after the likes of Okoye, Endgame Thor, and Mantis. While a Deviant may have been the choice of some, particularly from a size perspective, I think the way Hasbro has laid this wave out with a Deluxe Kro to face off against them is well thought out. My Eternals are now complete and as I thought right through all of my reviews, the beauty of the wave is in the completion and the display as a group of heroes not just as individual figures.
