The Super7 Silverhawks Ultimates series has reached its 3rd wave, with four new figures revealed this week ahead of a 2023 release date. The new wave kicks off with Commander Stargazer who features three head options, alternative hands, weapons, and a Sly-Bird fighting hawk figure. He is joined by Hotwing who also features three head options, removable wings, laser effects, and a Gyro fighting hawk. Mo-Lec-U-Lar had been teased last week, and this 7-inch Ultimates version features three heads, transformation rings, alternative hands, a blaster, and Volt-Ure weapon bird. And the final figure is Mumbo-Jumbo who will have two head options, alternative hands, handcuffs, magnetizer belt, blaster, and two Airshock Bird Figures - one in flight mode, one in weapon mode. As is the usual format, the pre-order window runs for a month and closes on the 13th of May 2022. The figures then go into production for a Spring 2023 release. After a lot of speculation since Spider-Man: No Way Home arrived in cinemas, Hasbro have finally confirmed that all three of the Spider-Men seen in the movie will be released as Marvel Legends figures in 2023. There are no other details at this stage, nor are there any images other than this promo shot shared on the Hasbro Pulse social media channels. While this could be a box-set of the Maguire, Garfield, and Holland Spider-Men - they could also be part of a wave, or perhaps part of a set of multipacks. Hasbro's Transformers Fan First Livestream on the 12th of April saw a raft of reveals across the Transformers Generations Legacy series including Elita-1, Tarantulus, Knock-Out, Wild Rider, Blitzwing, Jhiaxus and Mix Master. Hasbro's Power Rangers Fan First Livestream on the 12th of April 2022 saw the team reveal three new Power Rangers Ninjetti figures in the 6-inch Lightning Collection, as well as an enormous 1:1 scale Mighty Morphin Red Ranger Sword in the prop-replica series. Doctor Strange fans have been quite blessed in recent months thanks to his apperances in What If?, then in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and now his upcoming sequel movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This also means we've had a lot of Stephen Strange Marvel Legends figures of late, this being the latest - a traditional MCU Doctor Strange from the Multiverse of Madness released in March 2022 as part of the Multiverse of Madness wave with Rintrah as the build-a-figure. Like the other MoM releases in the wave, the packaging uses the standard Marvel Legends format with a deep red hue to the logo and character nameplate and a multi-colour backdrop to the side art, the figure backing card, and the rear art - with the window design of the Sanctum Santorum phased into the image. The rear of the box carries the checklist for Rintrah with this standard Doctor Strange figure being the only one of the wave to come without any parts. We also get a short piece of relatively 'non-spoilery' background text. "Doctor Stephen Strange is Earth's mightiest sorcerer, battle-hardened and reckoning with his lonely place in the Multiverse after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame." Hasbro has quite a bit of Stephen Strange body parts to hand now dating back to the original 2016 figures, the Infinity War release, Strange Supreme from What If?, the No Way Home release, and the Supreme Strange figure from the Multiverse of Madness. And yet, this Doctor Strange figure is a full new sculpt and reflects the subtle changes to the outfit we see on screen. While the torso looks similar to the pattern on Defender Strange, it is different and now includes an inserted and fixed in place Eye of Agamotto that is cast in a translucent amber colour. The belt is intricate and has a sculpted sling ring as well as a similar circular sash tie that we saw on the No Way Home version. The lower robes are softer plastic and encase the top half of the legs which then go on to finish in a pair of angular patterned boots. The costume colouring starts with the base plastic - blue in most cases - and over this, we see applications of a lighter blue at certain panels, and a very neatly applied thin red trim for the majority of the upper robes. The belt is leather brown, as are the bracers, with a grey trim, red tied rope and a tasselled brown sash that also features a painted silver clip. As we have seen with other MCU Alumni like Stark and Captain America, Hasbro does tend to improve figure by figure on the likeness of a character and while I felt the No Way Home release was pretty spot on, this new figure goes a step further by including an ever so slight smirk to Strange which brings the sculpt to life much more. The photo-real decor does a great job on the eyes, mouth, facial hair and some shading around the head. The hair is an individual piece added over the top of the head, cast in brown and with the white at the side of the head added in dry-brush strokes. Including the hair as a second part means there is no paint bleed where the two meet, nor is there any discernable gap that can be an issue when the heads are done as a two-part piece. Stephen comes with the Cloak of Levitation, and this has had a full do-over also. It is cast in a deep red and now is shaped to sit over the figure's neck and shoulders and does away with the peg socket at the rear to hold it in place. This works pretty well and I like the more flamboyant shaping on this cape vs previous versions as it flows out to either side. There is limited paint across the cloak relying instead on the texture of the plastic with a patchwork design on the outer section and a more intricate textured lining. Paint is added at the clasp sitting in two halves just under the neck line with gold added here to accentuate this detail. The magic shield effect hands seen with the No Way Home release, and used again with Wong from this same wave, are included for Stephen to utilise. These see the magic circular effects cast in translucent orange and pre-attached to the hands that then swap out with the ones included. You also get a third pair of hands with the fingers posed as though spell casting, giving you a fair bit of choice over how Strange is displayed. Each hand is cast in the flesh colour and the ones without the magical effects do appear to show the scarring on the back of each hand. While all this choice is great, the right hand feels a little too samey with two spell-casting hands and a third hand with the spell itself attached. I would have preferred a more neutral choice for the right hand - either another clenched fist as we see with the right or a more natural open hand. Doctor Strange has 20 points of articulation, gaining a torso t-joint and waist swivel on this iteration of the character. The arms are very expressive, particularly thanks to the double joint elbows that allow the arms to reach a wider range of movement. There are no discernable butterfly shoulder joints, but these are not really missed in terms of overall movement and most spell poses and dynamic stances are available - the cloak being the only real blocker as raising the arms does push this up and out of the way. While the head does look to be jointed at the base and top of the neck, the lower joint is static and locked in place but there remains sufficient movement in the upper joint for Stephen to give that 'cocked head' look. The lower leg articulation is, like most of the other Strange figures to date, constricted by the lower robes. While these robes are a softer plastic they can't really support much movement from the upper part of the legs and while the double-jointed knees could allow some sitting or kneeling positions there is not enough give at the hip to bring the legs out far enough to coordinate these movements. That leaves you with pretty standard leg positions, but the joints are all secure enough that once the figure is posed he will stay solidly in that position. As a new body, it is also worth mentioning that this new Doctor Strange is fully pinless even with the double joint elbows and knees. This does wonders for the aesthetics overall. Doctor Strange is definitely filling in the Iron-Man role presently both in the MCU and in terms of output of figures from Hasbro over the last year and a bit. This may be the 5th we have had since the start of 2021, but I would argue it is probably the best to date with the cloak, in particular, being reworked into something more dynamic - and as we see it on the screen. The magic FXs hands will not be everyone's cup of tea, but I do like the new Eye of Agamotto and how that is integrated with the figure but retains a slightly transparent overall look. The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness lineup looks like it has avoided the usual issue of inaccurate elements having been produced off either concept or preliminary designs, and the figures line up great together on display - with demand likely to go up as the movie hits our screens. Am sure we have more Doctor Strange to come - variants or not - but for now, this is up there as the best of them and certainly would not be significantly out of place if you were filling in a Stephen Strange size hole from Infinity War or Endgame. The two new Marvel Legends Moon Knight figures from the Disney+ series have now opened for pre-order. Both Moon Knight and Mr. Knight are part of the next Disney+ wave with the already announced Infinity Ultron as the build-a-figure. The wave will also include Hawkeye and Kate Bishop from the Hawkeye series - with three slots still to fill and be confirmed. Moon Knight will not come with a BAF part and is likely therefore double packed in the case. He will feature a crescent dagger and alternative pair of hands. Mr. Knight comes with one of Infinity Ultron's arms, an alternative pair of hands, and his batons. Fennec Shand first appeared in The Mandalorian, Season 1, and has since gone on to play a larger part in the Star Wars universe returning for Season 2 alongside her new employer Boba Fett, having a spot in The Bad Batch - and most recently slipping into an even bigger role as part of The Book of Boba Fett. And it is from The Book of Boba Fett that we get our first Star Wars Black Series figure of Fennec Shand, giving her the honour of being the first figure in the Book of Boba Fett Galaxy collection - an honour that possibly should have gone to Boba himself? The Book of Boba Fett has been allocated a deep green accent colour within the Galaxy Collection and that is applied across the border for the packaging and as a highlight colour on the greyscale side and rear illustrations depicting Fennec Shand with her sniper rifle on the sands of Tattooine. To the side of the artwork on the rear of the box, we have a short piece of text that talks about Shand's backstory but makes no real mention of her role in either The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fett. "An assassin and elite mercenary who has worked for all the top syndicates. Clever, capable, and cunning, she is a formidable opponent." Fennec, as we would expect, is a full new figure with no obvious re-used parts. She is cast predominantly in black and in her recognisable gear with black bodysuit and armour and orange highlighted kama shirt, boots and bracers. The new body is entirely pinless and that really helps the overall look of the figure. The colouring of the costume may not be obvious at first, but once you inspect the outfit the base black plastic is painted over in parts with a higher gloss black to identify the armoured parts. The orange is neatly applied and covers well despite the black colouring underneath. The head sculpt doesn't feel like it is a knockout likeness to actor Ming-Na Wen. It is one of those sculpts that looks better from certain angles but is perhaps a touch too round in the face proportions and isn't quite right around the lips and nose. The photo-real application does a good job of the eyes, but with such a smooth complexion there is no real avenue for any other facial shading or features other than the mouth and eyebrows. The figure I purchased also suffered from the worst paint issues on the head that I have seen to date with two large spots of the hair coloured paint on her right cheek. The hairpiece is sculpted as part of the head with an individual section attached for the tied ponytail. It looks to have been based on her appearance in The Mandalorian and while the change between the two series was not significant, the tighter hair we see on the figure was a little looser in Book of Boba Fett and she had more strands hanging down that framed her face better. The one strand we do have looks odd, and there is also too much of a gap around the ears. Shand does come with her helmet, an individual piece engineered in a similar fashion to other removable helmets in the line and out of a softer plastic material. It has been made in two parts with an orange plastic helmet and a black visor section fixed underneath. This allows for a gap to be left between the lower visor and upper helmet, the same as we see on screen. Paint apps for the helmet are minimal with a black bent painted on the upper orange helmet, and some silver to what would be the visors hinge. The fit is very tight and once worn the gap left above the visor does close up. You can tweak this so some of Fennec's head is showing. Once in situ, the helmet proportions are good and it looks fitted to the head and not oversized in any way. The tightness of the fit does worry me in terms of paint rub which would be most likely on the hair if the helmet is put on and taken off regularly, The only other inclusion in the pack is Fennec's MK Sniper Rifle, a new weapon for the Black Series line. It is cast in black and has quite a bit of detail across the rifle body and scope, but no paint apps to enhance the look of any of the weapons components or design. A flexible strap is attached at either end of the rifle allowing it to be shoulder slung. This works well as the strap is shaped to go over the shoulder and hold the rifle in a slung position. There is a reverse issue though in that the strap doesn't quite behave naturally when the rifle is in a firing position, something we've seen on items in the past like Rey's staff. While the gun gets no paint, the strap is accented with a couple of further orange panels to tie in with the outfit. There are no alternative hands with Fennec Shand, the pair fitted on arrival are shaped to hold the weapon with a trigger finger to the right and a gripping left hand to cup the barrel. The arm articulation supports plenty of firing poses, including the shooting pose with Fennec looking down the sights and barrel of the weapon. The total articulation count for Shand is 19 in total. The arms, as mentioned, are very mobile despite the single joint elbow. There are a pair of butterfly shoulders sitting back in the torso that adds in the slightest extra movement too. The legs would allow for kneeling poses were it not for the larger skirt section of the figure, so you are left with wider action stances for Fennec. Every joint is well-engineered and feels tight and secure. Fennec Shand is really fun to pose and display especially with her sniper rifle if you can work that awkward shoulder snap out of the way. The Star Wars Black Series Fennec Shand is another great example of a new character brought to life in the 6-inch figure form with a decent likeness, good articulation and a relevant set of accessories. At a time when fans are showing displeasure over a number of repaints and re-releases, the Wave 6 figures including Shand are showcasing what The Black Series is all about. There is still a question mark over the decision to release Fennec as the 1st figure in the Book of Boba Fett series, but that aside she is going to look great alongside the Throne Room Boba Fett once he arrives, while also allowing collectors to fit her in alongside a Mandalorian themed display - or even with the Bad Batch. UK retailer Nerd Toys have shared an image via social media of the reverse of the box for the new NECA Aliens Fireteam Xenomorphs. Ashoka Tano made her live action debut as part of The Mandalorian Season 2 in 2021 and Hasbro have wasted little time in bringing this newest Ahsoka appearance into the Black Series 6-inch line along with the previously released Ahsoka figures from Rebels and The Clone Wars. Ahsoka is part of Wave 7 of the Galaxy Collection and was originally scheduled as a late 2022 release but surprised many with an April 2022 arrival alongside The Client, beating much of Wave 6 to market in the UK at least. She is number 19 in The Mandalorian line and follows on directly from the Cobb Vanth deluxe release. The side artwork shows the Rosario Dawson Ahsoka in front of the gates of Calodan, the city on Corvus where Mando finds her in Episode 5. The amber-hued illustration repeats to the rear of the box along with the usual brief and non-specific background text. "A Clone Wars veteran and now wandering Jedi, Ahsoka Tano forges her own path in the galaxy, righting injustices that she discovers." Ahsoka is a full new sculpt for this release and the outfit she wears on Corvus is faithfully recreated with her armoured boots and bracers in silver with deep blue trim as per her Rebels costume. We then have her baggy trousers, belted waist and upper robes with a green hue used on the vest section. The arm wraps are detailed with cut out sections revealing Ahsoka's deep tan skin colour beneath. Other details include the silver clasp on her belt with more silver added to tassels to the side, and then round to the back where the belt is tied with a number of strands hanging down in individual rubbery plastic pieces. The whole body is pinless and designed in such a way that none of the joints are obvious, making it one of the most aesthetically impressive Black Series bodies to date. The head sculpt is just as impressive with a bang on likeness to Dawson as seen in the episode and enhanced not only with facial print photo-real decor but applied over this with the white facial markings of Ahsoka in perfect alignment. Her headband is a plain brown affair inset with three silver segments and beyond this, her montrals and lekku, shortened as per the episode prosthetics and coloured in a slightly off white with blue markings. This blue is applied naturally and as seen on screen so does not feel overly regimented as often can be the case. Paint across the head and body is excellent and there is no sign of any paint errors, splashes or errors other than a tiny spot of blue to the base of one lekku Ahsoka does don her grey Jedi robes during her Season 5 appearance, but Hasbro has chosen not to include soft goods robes with this release and therefore it does remove the choice of an alternative look. What we do get are her lightsabers, the twin blad combination we have seen on other Ahsoka releases but now realised with a white blade rather than blue. The hilts are new sculpts, despite the option to use the Rebels versions. They are plainly decorated with a silver finish and some small black highlights around the inlay section and the grips. The white blades are less translucent than usual so can look a little dull. The hilts retain the loops from the previous releases and two very subtle hooks are included on Ahsoka's belt to allow the saber hilts to be hung once the blades have been removed. This fit is not great and while they hold in position, they will dislodge easily - Hasbro having found a point between full functionality and the lack of any direct impact on the figure's overall looks. As mentioned early, the entire body of Ahsoka is pinless and with a lot of thought having gone into engineering her articulation around her outfit. There are a total of 19 points of articulation including the dual joint neck and a very well hidden pair of butterfly shoulder joints that sit within and work under the vest top. There is also some innovation in the legs with a knee joint hidden behind the pleated trousers, and a thigh swivel that is invisible from the front by way of shaping the upper thigh to cover the joint and allowing the leg to rotate from the back. While this all looks brilliant, you might expect some level of sacrifice in the movement of the figure but that is not really the case. Despite the size and bulk of the legs, Ahsoka can still kneel and crouch and achieve a myriad of action stances in between. The arms are fully mobile for lightsaber posing, and the body positions are supported with another well-hidden waist ball joint. Every joint is tight, secure, and moves just as intended and Ahsoka is a joy to pose! At a time that has seen some unrest in the Black Series community over the number of repaints and re-releases, Ahsoka is very much a statement of what the Black Series can and should be for collectors. This is a figure of the highest quality across sculpt, paint applications and articulation and shows a level of innovation that really enhances the looks of the figure without sacrificing any of the articulation. The only gripe might be with the accessories, but at a time when costs are rising I think my preference is picking the right ones in the £22 releases and not dipping into the deluxe status which this might well have been if we added in her robes, and perhaps the owl, Morai, and maybe even another Grogu. If this is Ahsoka is indicative of the Black Series going forward then it looks to be in good hands and we may simply have to accept multiple repaints and repacks - that we can choose not to buy - so as to also get figures of this quality from across the Star Wars saga. America Chavez will make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as part of the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. She has been included as part of the launch wave of Multiverse of Madness figures alongside the likes of Wong, Mordo, and Doctor Strange and arrived on store shelves in March 2022. The Multiverse of Madness figures within the wider wave utilise the movie logo at the base of the window and the usual red nameplate. A multicolour, almost rainbow, colour scheme is used as part of the card back and as a background image on the side and rear artwork - inset also with the mystical symbols as seen in the window of the Sanctum Santorum. On the rear of the box alongside the artwork and the build-a-figure checklist is a short piece of text giving us our first clues as to America Chavez, her powers, and her role in the movie. "America Chavez is a young girl from another universe, being hunted for her power - the unique ability to open doorways into the Multiverse." At the time of writing, we do not have a huge amount to go on for America Chavez and her outfit but the figure is essentially a teenage girl base body with black skinny jeans, a blue denim jacket and a pair of black high-top trainers. The proportions on Chavez are good, capturing her smaller stature and putting her half a head or so smaller than a standard figure like Wong or Doctor Strange. While the trainers and the socks are well painted, the beauty of the outfit is all in the jacket which is given a blue denim base colour and with aspects of stars and stripes added to the shoulders and around the back with a large star logo. We have further stars down the arms and smaller ones around the buttons of the coat as well as some even smaller details like the words "Amor Es Amor, a skull logo and the LGBTQ rainbow flag. The head sculpt is a passing likeness to actor Xochitl Gomez, but seems to lack something in terms of realism as though the photo-real decor application was not used and the eyes and mouth have returned to the older factory painted technique. Perhaps as we become familiar with Gomez in the movie, the likeness will grow on me? I do accept that younger faces are harder to achieve in figure form with no features to define as you may find in the lines and shape of an older actor. With no context at present on how her powers manifest, the only added accessories for America Chavez are the second pair of hands. These allow some level of alternative poses and looks as you choose between clenched fists and open gesturing hands. These are simple to swap in and out but are on a smaller peg so are a little more fragile than usual. Chavez gets a 16 points of articulation count across a fully pinless body. We have double joints in the knees that allow her to kneel and sit, while the arms are more restricted with a single rotating elbow. That being said, there is sufficient movement for gesturing, or for generic poses including hands on hips. The joints are all tight and Chavez is easy enough to pose with Hasbro seemingly slightly exaggerating the feet to provide a sturdy base considering her slim frame. It is difficult to assess a figure of a character we are yet to see on screen as fans want to know if the figure can replicate the sort of things we see on screen? For now, I can say that America Chavez does a good job of replicating the fleeting glances we have had of her in the trailers, and does a particularly fantastic job on the decor of her jacket. She is articulated well enough and the only question mark is probably over the face sculpt and if any powered effects could and should have been included. Hasbro have never been shy about more generic 'real world' outfits in the Legends line - look at figures like Morbius and the 1980s Fury - and I look forward to now seeing how and where she fits alongside the more fantastical figures of Doctor Strange, Wong and Mordo. Joe (Action Force) and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licences - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves.
