The team at Diamond Select Toys have announced a 2nd Select figure in their Green Hornet series. Coming in Quarter 4 of 2023, the Kato Valet figure features Bruce Lee in the white Valet outfit complete with a removable mask. The set is listed as including multiple weapons and parts - while the pre-order details do not confirm what accessories we will get, we can see a throwing star in the promo images. Having first appeared in Season 1 of The Mandalorian, Migs Mayfeld’s first figure in the Black Series was actually based on his Season 2 appearance when he helped Mando gain access to an Imperial facility. The Season 1 costume from The Prisoner would go on to be released in 2022 as part of Wave 9 of the Galaxy Collection. Migs is number 27 in The Mandalorian series. Wave 9 is the last wave to include window packaging for The Black Series (until the decision to move to Plastic Free is reversed later this year) and uses the black base colour and the burnt umber accent colour assigned to releases from The Mandalorian. Migs re-uses the head sculpt from the Imperial Disguise on Morak, and there is nothing wrong with that considering the sculpt is a good likeness to Bill Burr and this likeness is further enhanced by the photo-real print technology that brings a realism to Mig’s eyes as well as a more natural beard effect. The figure itself is all new and features the basic combat suit that Migs wears for the republic prison transport heist. This includes a burgundy textured torso piece with dark blue sleeved arms, brown gloves, dark blue trousers and a pair of brown boots. Each piece is predominantly cast in the base colour, with the only obvious paint addition to the base body being the lower leg pieces with blue used to colour in the part above the boot to match the rest of the trousers. The use of rubberised plastic parts to overlay the main body is used to great effect with Mayfeld with a relatively complex combat vest that includes two over the shoulder straps, a belt and four holsters - two on the chest and two on the waist that then also strap around the thigh. This piece is cast in a dark brown colour, but has further paint added to give a two tone effect to some straps with a lighter brown colour, and some metallic finishes to the clasps. While many Black Series figures nowadays are lucky to get a single accessory, Mayfeld has a raft of additional parts as is determined by his costume and gear on screen. There are four identical blaster pistols included which are cast in a dark grey finish with a painted brown stock. These can fit into either of Mayfeld’s hands as both right and left hands include a trigger finger. When not in use - and obviously you can only use two at a time - they slot into any of the four provided working holsters. A fifth weapon is mounted on a backpack section that slots into a socket on Mayfeld’s back. The backpack features an articulated arm piece with two articulation points that then ends with a further blaster. This piece is also cast in a base dark grey plastic with a brown painted stock on the integrated blaster to match the other four. I have heard some feedback that getting this backpack into position is hard work as you have to line up the bracket through a hole in the strapping and into the back. I can honestly say this was not an issue on my figure and the installation was a breeze and the piece stays in place without incident. This back piece allows Mayfeld to be posed with an additional group of articulation so the rear mounted gun can be extended and in a firing position over the shoulder, or folded away out of use. The figure then boasts 19 points of articulation including a pair of well hidden butterfly joints at the shoulders underneath the torso piece. The figure is entirely pinless with the joints worked into the sculpt rather than being very obvious, and while the joints are single at the knees and elbows, there is sufficient motion to allow Mayfeld to kneel, sit, shoot and do all manner of extensive action poses. Each joint is tight and secure and the figure stands well enough in most positions. As a collector who has always appreciated the Scum & Villainy characters within Star Wars, Migs Mayfeld is a welcome addition to the line and outside of the more common Imperial and Clone Trooper variants we have seen more recently. The figure looks great, has a good level of decor, and a generous level of accessories for the Black Series including the articulated backpack and gun arm. Whether we will ever be able to expand on Mayfeld’s team beyond the already released Q9-0 is unknown, for now enjoy this one as it is a lot of fun posing for your display. One of the latest DC Multiverse series to be mined by McFarlane for action figure content is the DC vs Vampires series - and McFarlane have now confirmed that Superman will be joining the ranks of the undead alongside the announced figures of The Joker and Batman. So far all the DC vs Vampires figures, including this new one, are Walmart US exclusives. Outside of the US they will be available through the relevant McFarlane distributor - which means these figures should be reasonably easy to get here in the UK via Bandai. The DC Multiverse Flashpoint wave from McFarlane is a Gold Label Exclusive sold by Target in the US and with releases every 2 months or so through 2023. So far we have had figures revealed of Aquaman and Superman and the BAF itself has been confirmed as Cyborg. The third release in the wave - expected over the late Spring or into Summer - will be The Flash and he will feature both masked and unmasked heads. We await more information and the pre-order to go live with Target. In the UK, and other terriroties, the Flashpoint wave wont be available until the end of 2023 when all the figures have been revealed. Revealed by the Hasbro Pulse social channels is this new Marvel Legends 2-pack of The Green Goblin and Mary-Jane Watson. The set is inspired by the 90's Spider-Man animated series and follows on from the existing 2-packs of Carnage & Spider-Man and the upcoming Doc Ock and Aunt May. The set will come in a VHS-inspired box set and includes an alternative Normal Osborn head for Goblin as well as his Glider and some Pumpkin bombs. This week's Mando Mania reveals a pair of figures from The Mandalorian itself with new versions incoming in both the Black Series and Vintage Collection of R5-D4. The Black Series version will use the new Astromech sculpt complete with manipulator arms and compartments and the lift-up dome with internal storage. The Vintage Collection version will feature a removable dome that can then be inserted into the upcoming N-1 Starfighter droid slot. Both R5 figures will be Spring 2024 releases. Also revealed is a new Boba Fett Vintage Collection figure as seen in the early scenes of The Book of Boba Fett and during his time with the Tusken Tribe on Tattooine. Tusken Boba Fett will land this coming Summer. All three releases are live for pre-order as of te 19th of April 2023. A further Black Series figure was inadvertently revealed on Starwars.com but later removed. We are choosing not to share that at this time.
