The Disney+ Andor series featured a number of Imperial Officers and Troopers outside of the usual Stormtrooper battalions. The Ferrix Imperial Officer is a Black Series Spring 2023 release exclusive to Target in the US and sold via the Fan Channel here in the UK. While labeled as an Imperial Officer, the figure is better described as one of the Riot Troopers employed on Ferrix during the finale of Andor to quell the uprising after Maarva’s funeral procession. The figure was released ahead of the move to plastic-free packaging so includes a figure window. It utilises the deep orange accent colour assigned to Andor and is number 04 in the Andor Series The Ferrix Officer utilises a number of other figures to create the Riot Trooper look. The torso and arms are the same as the Cassian Andor Aldhani Mission figure, complete with a sculpted vest, this time cast in black plastic rather than the usual Imperial Olive green. The sole piece of paint applied on the torso is the silver of the belt and a slightly variant black/grey on the shoulders to provide some uniform variation. The legs are taken from the Mud Trooper Han from the Solo movie, again cast in black, and the same source provided the helmet & goggles. The helmet is removable, as are the goggles, giving a couple of different looks. The head underneath is brand new and a likeness to one of the Ferrix Imperials, with the photo-real application used to finish off the decor. Like a lot of recent Black Series figures the head looks too shiny. Our Officer comes with a mix of old and new articulation thanks to the hybrid of figures used to create him. There are 16 points of articulation in total, with a fully pinless upper body, and a set of legs that does benefit from some double-jointed pinned knees. Our officer is armed with a simple E-11 Imperial-issue blaster which is cast in black with a small silver panel painted on one side. The decision to include that blaster feels a bit too easy and in reality, the figure should be wielding a baton and riot shield - and of course, an Imperial Riot Shield does exist in the line thanks to the Gaming Greats Scout Trooper release. The accessory choice is the main issue with the Ferrix Officer other than getting his name wrong. The re-used parts are sensible and create a consistency of Imperial gear and different combinations of said gear depending on the planet & scenario. Had this figure been given a black version of the Riot Shield and a simple baton (they could have nicked one from Marvel Legends) then the figure would have been much more appreciated by Andor fans. Instead what was an exclusive with a lofty RRP is now being cleared out by retailers as low as £13. The Dark Times Imperial Officer from Andor is a Walmart Exclusive in the US, and sold via the Fan Channel here in the UK, including at Game where it received a hefty discount. The addition of the Dark Times wording is likely to avoid confusion with the Target Exclusive also labelled as an Imperial Officer from Ferrix - but who is actually more accurately an Imperial Riot Trooper. The Dark Times Imperial Officer comes in a window box with the deep orange accent colour of the Andor figures. He is number 02 in the line. Out of the box and the Imperial Officer is an almost entirely black cast figure with paint apps added on the belt, rank badge, and information canisters. The body borrows heavily from existing Imperial Officers like Tarkin with the legs and arms a direct reuse. The torso and skirt piece appear new, despite being very similar to the existing Officer body. This new chest piece is a glossier finish with stitching sculpted down the sides and a panel on the torso that looks like it should hold the Insignia. That rank insignia is displayed on the included rain cape which is another new piece. It is cast in a softer black rubber and entirely covers the neck & shoulders of the figure, around both arms and around the back of the legs. It can only be removed if you popped off the head. The head is a new sculpt and is cast complete with an officer's cap. The moustachioed officer is based on one of the Andor Imperials and photo-real technology is utilised to enhance the likeness. The glossy skin tone persists. Articulation runs in at 17 points with the legs carrying over the double-joint knees from the older figure. The new torso also benefits from the dual joint neck. Articulation itself is restricted by the heavy cape although you can move the arms out from beneath it, and work the legs within the width of its base. The officer is armed with a single blaster, an SE-14R, as used by the Deathtroopers from Rogue One. Like most Black Series weapons at the moment it is cast in its base black colour, with no added paint detail. While it is always nice to add more Imperials to a collection, an officer in a big cape to stop him from getting wet was perhaps not the immediate choice for collectors when they watched Andor and considering we are still (at the time of writing) missing key Imperial characters like Dedra Meero and Major Partagaz. The figure feels OK for an exclusive considering it won't be for everyone, but the fact it is hitting major deep discounts shows that it was perhaps not the best choice as part of the launch batch of the Andor collection. Hasbro have confirmed the next stretch goal for the HasLab G.I. Joe Classified Series Dragonfly. The project is already funded and has just passed the 13k mark which has unlocked the first-tier addition of the Night Force Rip Coard. Tier 2 is set at 16k and will be a figure of Jane "Glenda" Mullighan, who will feature alternative hair and flight helmet options as well as flight gear and weaponry. A UK retailer, Figure Displays, appears to have gone early on pre-orders for the new DC Multiverse Dark Kngith Trilogy Gold Label Joker figures from McFarlane. They have listed orders for the Bank Robber and Sonar Vision Joker along with promo images of the pair. No name strikes terror into the hearts of Gotham City's citizens quite like The Joker. The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness exclusive release of the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Legends line was revealed by Hasbro back in April. The figure is a Target US Exclusive and is sold via the Fan Channel here in the UK, and the pre-orders have just opened providing us with a few more images and details of the figure. Diamond Select Toys are hosting its 2023 Showcase over 2 days across the 12th and 13th of April. The Day 1 reveals were headlined (for me anyway) with the announcement of Series 6 of their Lord of the Rings Select line. The next duo coming for release are Sauruman complete with Palantír and Samwise Gamgee who comes with his traveling pack, Sting, and the light of Elendir. The Series 6 figures are listed for release in late 2023 / early 2024. The other Action Figure reveals for Day 1 included a pair of Darkwing Duck Select figures with Darkwing Duck himself and his nemesis Negaduck. There was no release date put on this pairing. There was also confirmation of a 2nd Jean-Claude Van Damme figure in blue combat Gi coming to join the already announced Ring Attire Van Damme, This 2nd release is planned for Summer 2023. As we get ready for The Witcher, Season 3, on Netflix, McFarlane have announced a limited edition two-pack of Geralt and Ciri from the show. The Clone Wars release of Darth Maul represents the character's third release in the Star Wars Black Series after the original 2013 Phantom Menace version and the 2021 Sith Apprentice. Clone Wars Maul is a general release and part of Wave 9 of the Galaxy Collection released in late 2022. Maul is number 11 in the Clone Wars Collection, following on from the 187th Battalion Clone Trooper. Wave 9 was the last wave before the launch of the plastic-free packaging, so Maul arrives with a window box that utilises the yellow accent colour assigned to The Clone Wars. The Maul figure is a real-world execution of his animated character from Clone Wars and is predominantly a new figure with only the torso and neck appearing to be re-used pieces from the Sith Apprentice Maul and the associated Night Brother releases. The torso is then covered with a soft plastic vest that incorporates two shoulder guard pieces that sit over the burgundy-suited arms. The vest also includes the robotic waist for Maul with painted silver straps across three bands. The legs themselves include the same burgundy suit for the thighs, but then transition to full robotic legs from the knee downward all cast in a gunmetal with darker metallic panels at the joints in particular. The head appears to be new, or at least tweaked, as it is now somewhere between the neutral look of the original Maul and the sinister grin of the Sith Apprentice release, with a thin partial smile revealing just a hint of teeth beneath. The markings on the face and then down into the chest are painted red over black and are darker on the face. Bone colouring is used on the horns and what appears to be photo-real tech is applied to the eyes. The overall likeness is that of Ray Park and the live-action Maul which is in keeping with the Black Series ethos of creating real-world figures of those characters who appear in the animated series. Maul comes with his lightsaber which is made in a silver plastic with red details on a couple of the switches and a black central piece. It has a small peg that corresponds to a very well-disguised ‘hook’ on Maul’s central belt allowing the saber hilt to be slung. The fitting of this is not that secure, and the sheer length of the hilt does make it look awkward. The saber features two clip-in red translucent blades and the whole thing can of course be split into two. It can be wielded across both hands with the hands specifically made to hold the saber rather than be dual purpose as we have seen on other force users. Maul is a fully pinless figure with 20 points of articulation giving him a broad spectrum of movement. The addition of shoulder butterfly joints makes a huge difference to lightsaber posing, and the two-part neck does provide some added menace when posing that smiling head. There is little to fault about The Clone Wars Darth Maul as a release with an excellent sculpt reflective of his time in the Clone Wars story arc on which the figure is based - while also bringing him into a real-world setting. There are plenty of articulation and posing options, and the saber works well enough with or without the blades. Certainly, another figure that will be a must for Maul fans and Clone Wars collectors.
